AutoCAD 2013 :: Creating And Deforming Assembly Of Ultra-thin Layers

Oct 3, 2012

I want to make 3D assemblies of very thin layers (the layers have 1000000:1 lateral to depth dimensions) in AutoCAD. Currently I make them in PTC Creo, but I would like to move to using AutoCAD instead.

What is the best method to do this? Specifically, how can I extrude multiple (6-8) ultra-thin layers individually, then join them in an assembly which I can bend and flex to make 3D surfaces? I have attached a Keyshot render of a design I did in Creo. I would like to make the exact same structure in AutoCAD. The design is 6 layers stacked on top of each other, joined as one part, than manipulated into a complex, 3D shape.

Also, is AutoCAD the best Autodesk software to do this? I have access to the student versions of the Autodesk software if it makes a difference.

Xara :: Create A Copy Of Image With Ultra Thin Black Lines / No Fill

Mar 22, 2013

Executive summary of need: turn a color, line-and-fill Xara image into a very thin black line, no fills, no other colors.

I'm reproducing a 1930s - 1940s decal from a toy crib that we're restoring and repainting. The original decal on the headboard is deteriorated and flaking off, so I decided to reproduce it on clear inkjet waterslide decal paper. (White paper wouldn't work because of the open area between background ovals and the figure itself; here's the reproduced decal image - imagine everything not in color to be a clear area: )

However, since inkjet printing doesn't include opaque white, I need to manually paint white on the decal sheet behind the ovals and the figure to make the colors pop and to prevent the pink-painted crib background from showing through. I'd like to take the Xara image, copy it, then turn the copy into a very light black or gray line with no fills. This becomes guidelines for hand-painting

I'll print the black line version first on the decal sheet, paint white on it, then print the color version over top.How do I transform a copy of the original into my guidelines?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating A Rail Sub Assembly In Sub Assembly Composer 2013

Jul 11, 2013

I thought I created a rail sub assembly.

So I created the rail sub assembly everything looks great in sub assembly composer.

Start a new dwg data reference in the rail alignment, Note the rail alignment type is set to rail.

Create an assembly and under the Construction tab for the assembly the Assembly Type is set to Railway. Attach my custom sub assembly to this assembly.

Created a corridor and I get this error: Something wrong with current subassembly: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.

So I delete my sub assembly attach the Civil 3D Rail Single sub assembly. Re run corridor and everything works fine.

So I promote the alignment change type to centerline. Delete the Rail Single sub assembly put my rail sub assembly back. Rerun the corridor and everything works.

So then I undo everything up to the point of promoting the alignment.

Opened the base file changed the alignment type to centerline.

When I tried to synchronize the references I ended up a broken reference with the following error. Invalid reference. Synchronization failed

Not good we already have plan sheets cut.

where in sub assembly composer were do I define the sub assembly to be for Rail?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assembly With Mixture Of Thin And Solid Bodies

Nov 14, 2013

I'm trying to do a stress analysis on assembly with a mixture of thin bodies and solid bodies.  The problem is that when I create the automatic contacts they are created as either all thin body or all solid body contacts.  This of course causes the analysis to fail.  It appears that there is no way to make a thin body contact become a solid body contact or vice versa.

I tried to run the entire thing as solid bodies but the I had to stop the analysis after 18 hours of continuous processing. (and a memory upgrade)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Thin Bodies In 2013 FEA?

Aug 23, 2012

what I do need clarification on is the statement in this warning "One or more bodies which are thing being treated as solids". Does this mean that the bodies that were detected fall under the criteria for being a Midsurface or Offset and that the user has the opportunity to apply these commands in order to make the analysis more accurate?  So if I were to ignore this and continue with my analysis, the members will still be treated as a solid and not as a shell and/or surface (which is what the Midsurface/Offset command produces)?  The members I am using that have triggered this warning are HSS 2x2x0.125 x 12' long.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Error Opening Assembly On 32bit 2013 That Was Created On 64Bit 2013

Oct 2, 2012

I have an assembly that was created on 64 bit version of Inventor 2013, the total file size of everything is around 150MB. Even if I use 'Pack and Go' to move the file to another computer running the 32 bit version I get an error when I try to open it which says something like:

'unable to allocate 3GB memory for FBAttributeSegment'

The actually figure is over 3GB but of course on a 32 bit version of windows it is physically impossible to allocate that amount of memory (even with the /3GB in boot.ini hack)

I've performed various dynamic simulations as well as animations within the assembly so I'm thinking that perhaps its trying to allocate that huge amount of memory for a saved state of one of those.

What FBAtributeSegment might be and whether there is any special way to save an assembly to avoid this problem? The name FBAttributeSegment doesn't correspond to any part or assembly names.

I should also add that I have no problem opening it in a 32 bit version of Fusion which again suggests to me that it is something like simulation or animation that is causing this

AutoCad 3D :: Models To Be Printed By Using 3D Printer In Ultra Frosted Detail

Jan 4, 2014

I am trying to create 3D models that will be printed using a high quality 3D printer in Ultra Frosted Detail.

I am knowledgeable on how to draw my shapes and extrude them to 3D, but am curious is if I need to change the shapes to "solids" for the printer to print it that way? For instance, I have a model train car that I am working on, and I have attached the file below. What I did with this basically is drew the shapes and extruded them to the thickness that I needed (Measurements are actual size and will need scaled down after the model is complete).

So If I need to make them a solid, how do I accomplish that, and then join the separate objects into one complete model ready for printing?

P.S. If you need any details about this project, basically I am composing a railroad flat car, and have built the four sides as well as the top deck as separate pieces and will combine them all together as one.

2D Base Objects: This is the basic pieces in 2D wire that are drawn to life scale and have not yet been extruded to the proper width.

3D Rendering: This is a model i drew up before I realized I might need to make the pieces solids for 3D.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating WorkPoint In Assembly

Nov 11, 2013

Simple question: How do you add a WorkPoint in an Assembly? I was hoping to find something like:

dim pt as new point ( 0, 0, 1)
oPartDef1.workpoints.add(pt)
   ~OR~
dim pt as point
pt.setlocation(0,0,1)
oPartDef1.workpoints.add(pt)
[code]....

It seems like I need to make a geometry (i.e. thisApplicaiton.TransientGeometry.CreatePoint(0,0,0) ) but I cannot find this feature for a component Occurence.  I don't want to make a "Global" point, I want to make a point "Local" to a particualar part.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating A Flexible Assembly?

Jan 11, 2012

I am wanting to create an assembly that I can manipulate and `pull about'.

To describe what I have and I want to acheive try and picture this very simplistic layout :-

A length of hose 50 meters long.

Another length of 50m long hose 2 meters directly below it.

The 2 lengths of hose rigidly tied together at 2m intervals with a small diameter solid bar and clamps around the hose.

What I need to acheive is :-

An assembly showing the above items in a long straight 50m run.

(I have no problems with creating this assembly.)

From there though I then need to be able to create an `S' shape, with the hose staying at a fixed radius where it is rolled to form that shape, both hoses must stay inline with each other at all times.

If you can imagine how a hose would react as you rolled it in reality I want to try and replicate that within my assembly if it is possible?

I realise I could create one long flat assembly then create another seperate assembly showing it in it's rolled up `S' shaped state but that is not what I am wanting.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating List Of Drawings From Assembly

I wonder if there is any way of creating the list of drawings that derive from a general assembly, which contains sub assemblies and spare parts. That involves to export some personalized i properties, such as nº of drawing, nº of father drawing (for sub-assemblies), and title.

The idea is creating a inculcated link between these drawings (.idw files) and an excel file that, if possible, updates itself when changing the drawings.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Step File Of Assembly

Mar 20, 2013

I am trying to create a step file of an assembly, the assembly consists of maybe 50-100 parts.  I am currently running Inventor 2009.   In a new part file, I derive the assembly to make it one solid entity.  Then I save that as a step file.  However when i open the step file, i have a bunch of extra "parts" in my model tree.  These parts seem to be where the bolts and threaded holes interfere or not all parts joined to the main solid model.  How can I eliminate this?

Also on a side note, is there anyway to change the orientation of the WCS?

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Ultra-pipe (Drawing Name Versus Circuit ID And TML Range)

Sep 12, 2012

For those who are familiar with the Ultra-Pipe Program, when I open a drawing from Ultra-Pipethe title layer is updated by the kbupdate.lsp file and the drawing decription (title Layer) is updated with the Circuit ID and TML range.  Referencing the attached pdf, you can see that this would be misleading in some cases.  I need the description in the title block to be updated with the drawing name instead.

We have changed the default layer colors before in the kbupdate.lsp so I know it's not impossible.  I am 99% sure that the changes needed for the problem above would be in the same file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Flexible Cylinder (rubber Boot) In Assembly?

Jan 5, 2014

Usually what I do is download a 3D CAD part from McMaster Carr or some other place and start from scratch trying to recreate the part or, in this case, the assembly. I'm working on modeling a simple swing-arm type of machine I've made in the past and the I've been able to recreate all of the parts with their proper ranges of motion except one. It's an Inline Ball Joint Linkage that has a rubber boot around it to keep the dust out and possibly grease in. I want to know if it is possible to model the rubber boot so that it would mimic real life movement. Right now, the boot is basically a rigid cylinder and as the linkage swivels, the solid bodies clip through each other.

I've been able to make a flexible hose type of assembly as shown here: [URL]... However, creating a 3D drawing with a spline that attaches to work points on the other assemblies causes the Ball Joint to no longer work. It will only rotate as opposed to swiveling.

VideoStudio :: Flip Ultra MP4 Files Crashes / Pro X4

It works okay when I import most formats of video, but when I try to import any MP4 from my FLIP Ultra HD, then try to play it, the program locks then crashes. This happens 100% of the time. I tried installing SP1. It installed without a problem, but the error persists.

It is not an issue of corruption. WMP plays the files without incident and Windows Live Movie Maker will import and edit these files without problem. Likewise for Windows Movie Maker on another system using Vista.

Incidentally, Corel itself will recognize and convert these same MP4's to MOV without a problem. And it will play old MP4's from my previous non-HD Flip without a problem.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Different Parametric Version Of Assembly From Master Part File?

Apr 24, 2013

I have created a parametric, multibody master part file to derive parts from it, and then put them in an assembly. See attached file. Now, I need 3 different versions of this setup (with different values of the parameter 'bending_angle').

What is the best way to do it? If I derive parts from it, they always follow the *actual* status of their master file. Is there some method to do this: "derive from this file, with parameter bending_angle=55deg", but keep the dependency relation, i.e. if I modify something on the master file, the derived part fill follow the modifications (with the value of bending_angle=55deg)

Meaning, can I create a separate side by side view in the idw using the same assembly file, but in different suppressed states? Or how does this work specifically? Right now all I have done is saved out the file with the different suppressed state showing, but this became obviously cumbersome quickly since the parts are similar and keep updating, thus forcing me to create yet even more optional files. I'm thinking that iLogic could be a possible fix.
