AutoCAD 2013 :: 3D Chamfer Leaving Original Lines
Jul 17, 2013
I am trying to teach myself how to use 3D and when trying to chamfer my objects, the chamfer works, but it leaves the original lines.
I have it set to TRIM under the CHAMFER command. My TRIMMODE is set to 1. I don't know what else to do.

Is there a way to subtract and object but it doesn't erase the original object?
I have a way of doing this by copying an object and placing it in the original position. Than subtract a single object leaving the copy of the object behind.
I wondered if there is a way to accomplish this with less steps.

I'm using Corel Draw 12 and on some of my computers, if I resize or flip an image the original image remains on screen as well as the resized or flipped version. On other computers it doesn't happen.

I have about 50 images in a LR3 catalog. I modified all the metadata for each. They are all jpegs and were pre-processed by a specialized image editing program before import. I now find I have to replace all 50 with new versions. I really don't want to re-do all the metadata. Is there any way to have LR overwrite the originals leaving the original metadata intact? The file names are the same.

I would like to export sketches, but leave off the construction lines as they all show up the same in my CAM program. Is there a way to not export the construction lines? Possibly using the "Post Process" options of the Export Options. I am using 2013.

Whenever I edit a block using Refedit, Autocad seems to want to switch on the grid. (which if fine although a bit annoying) what really gets me is when I leave Refedit I’d expect it to turn the grid off again and restore the setting to the way they were before Refedit. But instead the grid remains still on.

I'm trying to create these rounded divots in a solid. However the only way I know how to get this sort of shape is with a revolved PLINE - which I of course can't use to subtract material from my regular old box.
The shape I want is something like this: (the 2D is a profile of what I want in the end, a divot in a box)

The spot and healing brush seems to work a little, but then leaves dark smudges or even complete dark lines. Also seems to pick up other objects in the picture as if it is copying a section of the picture. Have tried to reset, but nothing works.

I am attempting to fillet plines to make rounded curbs at street intersections. Whenever I create the fillet, the 2 plines that were filleted remain as they were before the fillet.
This only happens on my computer and only in AutoCAD 2011, it works fine in Civil3D 2011. We only have a limited number of Civil3D licenses or I would just use that all the time.
The attached screenshot shows an example of what happens. The 2 red lines are what were filletted (the fillet is in white). Both lines are long enough to accomodate the radius of the fillet.
What is causing this problem?

I am trying to use the command PASTEORIG and it does not work for me in AutoCAD 2013 or Civil 3D 2013. Is this a known issue with a fix or am I missing something here?
I know for the longest time to paste to original cooridinates you had to select an object and right click and paste by using the menu. I also used to create a keyboard shortcut that let me use Ctrl+Shift+V, but now these workarounds do not work either. It echos the command on the command line, but does nothing, not even a returned error.
This is a pretty significant issue when working in the Civil field.

I tried to create a new workspace, and it was sort of working where I could switch between my custom workspace and the original 2 or 3 Autocad workspaces. Then I think I loaded a menu and the other (original work spaces) have disapeared. How to restore these without doing a re-install?

I wanted to join 2 lines together (i.e. end up with a single line). I know that you can join lines by selecting both then using any of the shape / line / brush tools to drag one node from line A over to the a node on line B (you get a little + symbol next to the mouse cursor once the lines can join).
This is fine is you want the final line shape to differ from the original 2, but what if you want to join 2 lines and retain the original paths?
I can do it by postioning the target nodes on eash of the lines almost but not quite touching then using the above technique but its a bit awkward and I suspect this isn't the best way to go about it.

I am working with surveying points and what I used to do was insert the dxf file containing the points to my drawing and they would be inserted with their correct scale. However, now in AutoCAD 2013, when I insert them they are in a different scale and I must adjust them. Is there anyway to have their original scale carry over in 2013?

Is there a way to dimension chamfers like in the second pic below so that the values update. You can do a linear dimension and then alter the text and try and find that dimension in the list, but the chamfer tool works well with two clicks but you only get it with a leader. I would like the same function but with a linear dimension sometimes. It would be good if you could choose it. 45° is probably not a really good example, but the leader version is not always so clear.

Here goes= If i have a rectangle that is 27.125 X 27.5 and i want to chamfer a corner, but i also have a set distance(or the hypotenuse) Which is 22. How can i get it to put that angle in there with out trial & error of drawing a 22" long line on a 45 degree angle and moving it till it fits properly, then trimming off the corners... I have tried all the different commands in chamfer, the best i can do is guess at the distance, which is a crap shoot to me.

In Autodesk Inventor 2013. I have a simple cylinder extrusion with a rectangle attached to the cylinder. Drawing file attached(extrusion 1). Whenever I apply a chamfer to one of the straight edges, Inventor generates negative taper on the cylinder wall (if you zoom in with a window, you can clearly see that their are two lines on the cylinder wall where the chamfer edges was applied).
Is there anyway to prevent this from happening? This gives me all sorts of problem in my CAM software because the tool is trying to machine in an area it cannot get to.
As a work around I have to create a new part file with a small gap between the cylinder and the chamfered edges. This keeps the cylinder edges nice and straight with no taper. The work around is attached as well. Since the tool can't go that far into the corner given the radius of the tool, the gap has no affect on me generating code. I have tried many different ways on creating this part with chamfers with no luck. Once the chamfer is generated, it should match the profile of the cylinder.

Success using AutoCAD's CHAMFER>ANGLE command to chamfer in 3D? Distance/Distance works fine, but I haven't yet figured out how to use the chamfer tool to put a 30 degree chamfer on a cylinder (or any angle for that matter) by specifying a distance and an angle. Seems like it should be simple, but I always give up and end up creating the tapered edge by revolving a polyline that already has the chamfer, or using the TAPER>FACES tool.

We are trying to apply a chamfer / fillet, anywhere betwen 0.5mm - 1.00mm, to the attached ACAD 2004 / ACAD 2012, 3D model, along the edges connectiing from the existing chamfer / fillet, up each side to the top - where you will see there is no chamfer / fillet - (the outside of the cup profile,Attachment 34929 Attachment 34928not the inside of the cup profile).
That resolved the problem, the software struggled a bit with filleting till we tried a smaller degree, then it worked - we thought it would automatically fillet (flow) in / out according to what dims were available.
