How should I model a random 3D-geometry using AUTOCAD?
I have NEZ data from total station survey of an uneven region. Importing them to AUTOCAD gives me points.
What element should I use to model the 3D geometry enabling me to perform further calculations like volume etc. ?
Is it possible to have model space geometry print through a watermark in the layout? My watermark consists of mtext with an arial font placed manually in the layout. It is on it's own layer which is set to print at Shade 40 (plot style tables). Draworder works with other layout objects but not the geometry from the model space viewport. My watermark covers the model space geometry so it is not visible when printed. Is this possible?

I have designed a chassis for my hot rod and I have a side elevation and a top elevation which I have extruded and subtracted to produce a 3d model of the chassis rail.
My problem is how do I pull the true 2d geometry off of the 3d model or extrapolate ( I think thats the right word ) from the top and side elevations to produce a cutting path for the laser cutters.

I am trying to see my model space in paper space but nothing is there. tried creating viewports, but they are blank, tried to try different scales, still no joy? tried different layers etc, all layers are on!
This is only happening last couple days but is same for all my drawings. I must have changed a setting or got something very wrong?

Is there a way to hide project geometry from model sketch? I am modeling a sheetmetal part where I need to sketch centermaks, part number etc. for laser cutting. I want to use xy planes for symmetry reasons when sketching, but I don't want them to appear in dxf. This is a problem if I create a dxf directly from the model.
Usually I create dxf files from drawing by adding new sheet where I create flat pattern view from the spesific part (excluding machinigs etc, only thermal cut boundaries visible). In the drawing I am allso able to show model sketches and hide unwanted project geometry. Is it possible to include these sketches to dxf?
Using acad 10 I just start using annotative styles now, so far in order to detail a part I use to actually copy the geometry, change styles and scale and start detailing.
The problem is that often when Im detailing and annotating a part I need it to be clipped.
Is there any way to tell autocad that in scale 1:25 I don’t want to see all the structure but only a specific area of it(clipped inside a rectangle)
Is there a way to easily "retrieve" solid model features and sketches from a stp file imported into Inventor Pro 2012 without having to recreate them?

-Thickness
-Width
-Length
-Dia
I then created a Custom iProperty which consisted of the following "formula": Finished Material Size = <Thickness> x <Width> x <Length> Lg.
eg. of Finished Material Result : Finished Material Size = 6 x 25 x 300 Lg.
The problem comes up when dealing with diametrical components as the above formula will only populate for square or rectangular parts. Which would work if I could use iLogic code to populate the Finished Material Size iProperty. I have tried but failed.
First I created another user parameter called "Geometry Type" which has a drop down selection of either "DIA" or "SQUARE, RECTANGULAR".I then created the following iLogic code to set 0 as the value for the "unused" size parameters

We've upgraded to 2012 and have noticed a problem when fast clicking on the mouse when using commands.
For example when using the erase command I would usually type E and then quickly right click and left click. However in 2012 it brings up random command instead of erase i.e. sheetset, publish, ucs etc..Bringing up the text window afterwards it shows
Command: e
ERASE
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: *Cancel*
0 found
Select objects: *Cancel*
Command: _PointCloudIndex
The right click and left click are only processed once.This happens on all commands typed on the command line not just erase
Having only recently started using Autocad 2012 (I mainly used various versions of LT over the last 10+ years) I have noticed a few strange goings on.
It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes whilst in a command ("move" for example), when I go to click on an object or pull a window, a separate, totally random command activates itself. Why this happens, I just hit escape a couple of times & continue what I was doing.
I'm not sure if it is a case of me, in my haste, missing my intended object & hitting the right click button (which I use as a return & not a drop down menu).
Basically I've got a detail specific to my design, I've extruded all of the layers up to their desired levels etc, but now I want to be able to rotate it all so that instead of these layers being orientated vertically, they are orientated horizontally, if that makes sense. I understand that there is something involved with the UCS but I'm not sure how to get this to work. This may be an issue with my computer as I know my laptop graphics card is pretty rubbish and impacts a lot of 3d programs such as Rhino and SketchUp so this could be the issue here
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently we upgraded from ACAD 2010 to 2011. Some users are still on XP and some are on Windows 7. Since we began making the jump to ACAD 2011, we have begun to notice more and more drawings popping up with blocks no longer visible that were there the day before. When you go to the block editor, the block definition is still there but all of the geometry has been blown away. The only entity that seems to be immune is an attribute. The only commonality among the various drawings this is happening too is that they are all being accessed from an XP machine. Some folks have had to spend hours restoring all the blocks that were lost and that in itself was a challenge because ACAD already saw the definition so it would continue to blow away the geometry. You could purge the block IF you could find a way to pick it and delete it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently, I am using Inventor to produce inventor DWG drawings for our supplies to read using autocad and trueview etc. One of our suppliers is a laser cutting firm and they need us to produce a seperate DXF file from our inventor drawings (for the flat patterns). As this has to be done manualy and is potentially error prone (as drawings can be automaticallyt updated where as DXF's requre a seperate 'save as' we had hoped to be able to just send the Inventor DWG for them to extract the geometry of the blank using their copy of AutoCad. I noticed that when opening an inventor DWG in autocad, the 'model' contains no geometry and it is placed on a seperate tab called sheet 1 (or whatever the sheet was called in inventor).
Is there any way that this data can be extracted from the DWG so that they may manipulate the geometry?
I have attached an Inventor DWG for reference.
When I grip-select an image, or pick it at the "select objects" prompt, the image hides all other geometry behind it. Troublesome when trying to fine-tune the image(png background) location relative to other entities.
Image transparency on, draworder back, monochrome, image @ 0'-0"Z.
Image looks fine until I pick it.

Geometry stays on when you go to model space.
Was working ok until Autocad suggested upgrading video performance.

What is the best way to get 2D drawings from a 3D model? Flatshot will give a flat view but it does everything in the entire drawing and brings every line with it.
Is there an easy way to get a 2d drawing from one thing in a 3D model? We only have Autocad, no extras like Revit.
FLATTEN doesn't exists, and when I try FLASTSHOT it asks me for digits and I really don't know what to type.......the ultimate goal is to make all my lines "FLAT" since in top view they look good but in 3D perspective some are just way up and down(non-flat)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a file thats doing something wierd, when I open it I can see the layouts just fine, the existing viewports show linework from model space. However, when I switch to the model space tab I don't see anything, my mouse cursor dissapears when I move it over the drawing area but reapears when its moved over the ribbon or the prospector/command prompt. Also, when I create a new layout with a new viewport, nothing is displayed in the new viewport. It's like the program cant regen the view? When I went into one of the existing viewports and zoomed out I could see all the linework in model space but when I switch to the model tab it won't show any linework or the UCS indicator or my mouse cursor!?!

I want to export my 3D model as a pdf file and able to do an orbit rotation within Acrobat.
I am working in AutoCAD MEP 2011 building a 3d model of a room that has a significant amount of piping in it. I've got the piping finished and have recieved .sat files for the pumps from the manufacturer. When I insert them via ACISIN, they cause significant hesitation in the program. I need to be able to move smoothly through the model for client presentation.
Any good way to reduce the complexity of the pump model without affecting the look of it? In other words, I really only need the shell of the pump to set in place. I did try a conversion to a mass element and then to a 3d solid but it had little effect.
I want to start rendering during the times a pc is not in use (my first thought: scrip). So I started searching the internet, testing, trial and error and now I am at the point that my model renders perfectly if I type all the commands in the command line. But when I excecute the exact same commands via a script, a lot of my 3d-components are left out (for example, in a piping skid, I see my valves, bends, Tees, steel profiles, but not the pipes or plates). Someone mentioned that it might be the object enabler (?). I have no experience and can't even guess how to use an object enabler, let alone in a script.
