AutoCAD 2010 :: Preserve Customizations On Reinstall?

Mar 6, 2012

Our IT department ran a patch on our CAD station that corrupted AutoCAD and now it won't run and I need to re-install.  I did not do the original installation or customization.

Q1:  Will my customizations be preserved when I re-install over an existing installation?

Q2:  If not, is there a simple way to preserve the customization by saving the .cuix file and custom blocks?  If so, are there any other files that need to be saved as well?

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Save Settings Prior To Reinstall

Dec 10, 2013

What is the best way to save or export all settings that were configured prior to a re-install so that the new install will work with the same as before.

Settings like cursor size, dynamic snap settings, printers, path locations, layout appearance, etc. We have both a autocad 2011 and autocad 2010 lt license. Is there a solution for both?

AutoCad :: Uniform Background Colors Customizations?

Nov 7, 2012

Is there a way to change the background color of the lay out tabs different than what AutoCAD offers in the uniform background choice? I have a hard time telling what tabs I have selected to publish when I have it set to white. I really would like to keep the background white and not have to change it to black. When I have it set as black it is very obvious which tabs are selected. Is there a way to keep the uniform background on the layouts as white but the background on the layout tabs show as black when selected rather than the same color as the layout background.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2014 Will Not Remember Customizations?

Apr 23, 2013

My copy of Inventor 2014 will not remember the customizations I perform to the ribbon.  I simply added the PDF command to the Drawing/Vault/ ribbon, and when I save and close properly and reopen, the customization is gone.  It did remember all my custom keyboard commands, just not the ribbon command.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IV2013 SP1 Forgetting Keyboard Customizations?

Jan 14, 2013

I notice a bunch of my keyboard commands no longer work.  Not ALL of them.  Some of them stayed. At first I'm thinking that it's no big deal.  I've exported my Customizations to an XML file and I can just re-import them., right?

So I did that.  And yes, what I had saved in that file came back in.  However, *SOME* defaults were returned at some point, so I still had to go line by line and scrub some things out to make them work.  For example, I use "D" for general dimension in the drawing environment.  But if the default setup had "DV" for detail view, "D" doesn't work because it's now an ambiguous entry.  What a pain.

1. What's the deal with elimination of this bug?

2.  Is there a way to wipe all the keyboard commands prior to importing my own XML file so I don't have to manually scrub out other stuff?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Copy Ribbon Customizations From Regular?

Sep 11, 2012

We recently installed Civil 3D on our computers.  Some people started working in regular AutoCAD first rather than changing the workspace in Civil 3D.  They have customized their ribbons.  Is there a way we can copy those customizations and apply them to the 2D Drafting & Annotation workspace in Civil 3D?

Illustrator :: CC Customizations Reset To Default?

Aug 26, 2013

Windows 7 x64

Came into work today to find my Illustrator CC has defaulted back to factory settings - keyboard shortcuts, workspace/panel setup, etc - all defaulted. Not only that, but the individual files I might use to revert back to my settings are gone.

Then I'm suddenly asked via a pop-up to log into my Adobe ID so as to validate my Illustrator CC. Again. Then, I find, for some reason I'm logged out of the Adobe Creative Cloud program. So I log in, hoping that'll do something.

Now I must re-do 100% of the customizations I've made to Illustrator's interface.

So, I lost all my customizations. Where they are storage? What should be the folder to be backed up in order to recovery menus and toolbars customizations in new PSP installs?

AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Preserve Support Files When Reinstalling On Different Machine

Jan 16, 2013

I am running AutoCAD 2013 on Windows 7 on a virtual machine (Fusion) on my mac (Macbook Pro (late 2008), OS 10.6.8, 2.53 GHz, 8GB Ram.

I want to delete Fusion from my machine and use Bootcamp to run AutoCAD instead.  Before I delete my virtual Windows machine and uninstall Fusion, I want to make sure that I have a copy of all supporting files for AutoCAD so that when I reinstall it in Bootcamp, I can restore all present functionality.

I am not very knowledgeable about AutoCAD or PCs in general, so I don't know what I don't know.  In other words, I know that there are files that AutoCAD uses that I have created knowlingly or not that are important to be reinstalled so that the program continues to work how I am used to, but I don't know what all these files are, or where they are stored. The most obvious example are .ctb files that I have created over the past several years that have moved automatically with each upgrade.  There are surely other aspects of customization that exist in files kept somewhere, that AutoCAD references, but again, I don't know where all such files are kept.

Any best method for gathering all such files so that I can copy them to a thumbdrive and then reinstall in Bootcamp, once I've re-installed AutoCAD?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Preserve Functions In IProperties When Accessing With VBA Script

Dec 3, 2012

I made a simple dialog to access some of the iproperties. This is quite handy when working on a drawing of a part, but there is one flaw with this script. If the part's description has a function referencing the parts dimensions for instance, when my script gets the description it gets the plain text and not the formula. Meaning if the part's description is "=<d0> X <d1> X <d2>" and appears as "1 X 2 X 3" the script will get "1 X 2 X 3" and when it resaves the description it will over write the formula with plain text.

Is it possible to get the formula so my script could display that for editing instead of the plain text?

Below is a part of the code I'm using and it's the standard code I've seen for retreiving ipropterties.

Dim invDoc As Document Set invDoc = ThisApplication.Documents.ItemByName(GetToken(PartList.Value, 3, Chr(1))) Dim invDesignInfo As PropertySet Set invDesignInfo = invDoc.PropertySets.Item("Design Tracking Properties") Dim invProperty(1 To 4) As Property Set invProperty(1) = invDesignInfo.Item("Part Number") partnumber.Value = invProperty(1).Value Set invProperty(2) = invDesignInfo.Item("Description") description.Value = invProperty(2).Value

Photoshop :: Preserve Text From PDF To PSD

Mar 28, 2008

Is there a way to preserve text when exporting /saving a file from Acrobat.?

I've been trying in vain through numerous settings to find a way to open a pdf document in Photshop that preserves the text information. (ie a vector based workable text on it's own layer)
My original text tests (created in Acrobat) consist of a few sentences..yet all i've been able to get is the unworkable rasterized text on the transparent layer.

I'm certain there must be a way.. either a setting when opening/importing the file or saving the original in Acrobat.

3ds Max :: Preserve UVW Maps After Optimize?

Sep 8, 2011

I've made a model I'm content with - editable poly, and have added a UVW Map modifier and Unwrap UVW and subsequently rendered the UVW, taken it into photoshop and done what I would like to it then brought it back in as a diffuse material - all worked fine.I'm going to be using the asset in a prototype game so want to decrease the number of triangles rendered. So to decrease the polygons I've added an Optimise modifier. This is great for decreasing the number of polygons, but unfortunately as it changes the underlying geometry, it appears is mucking up the UVW coordinates and my material is all over the place.

What is the correct process or technique to decrease the polygons and preserve the UVW map appearance on the object, which was set on the higher res version? I've tried changing the modifyer stack order but as the shape has a number of irregular surfaces, the unwrapped UVW in peel mode is a real mess and would be extremely difficult for me to texture with any consistency.

Lightroom :: 4 - Preserve Raw Files After Editing In PS?

Jul 29, 2013

I have been using LR4, and am starting to learn Photoshop CS6. I thought I understood that there was not need to make a copy when editing a photo from Lightroom in Photoshop. However, Martin Evening's Lightroom 4 book (page 394 if you have it) states 'once you have converted a photo to black and white in Lightroom and edited in Photoshop, there is no opportunity to go back to the colour original'. He then talked about it being better to create an edit copy version

the original file would be lost in Lightroom. He also suggested that Virtual Copies may not be a good idea - something about if the catalog became corrupted you could lose the Virtual Copies, and it would be better to create a 'Real File'

So if I were to do some edits in LR4, including convert to B&W, then do further work in Photoshop, would it be better, or necessary to create another Edit Copy of the file so I had the original + another original I could then do the work on. And shoulkd I do this on all files

Photoshop :: CS6 / How To Preserve Folder Tree With Save As

Jan 26, 2013

PS CS6 and Win7/64...We just finished shooting a 3 day conference for 600 people, that involved many break-out sessions. Our folder tree of all the finished TIFFs is organized by day, then by topic, and then by break out.  All in all there are 75 folders in the tree, with close to 700 TIFFs.

The client wants both hi-res and lo-res JPGs (not the TIFFs).I have a very simple droplet that will convert a TIFF to JPG, but works only on a given folder, and outputs to a generic folder (so I have to copy these back).

Is there a way to create a droplet that will

(a) walk the source tree and convert the TIFFs of each folder to JPG, as well as

(b) Have PS create a matching tree to deposit the JPGs into the corresponding folders?

I know there's an option to include all folders when doing the conversion, but (b) is the critical element so I don't have to do this in a folder-by-folder basis.

Photoshop :: Getting (Preserve Editing Capabilities) Error

But once I made my own changes to the resume template, as seen below I kept getting the "I keep getting the error "Preserve photoshop editing capabilities" is incompatitable with earlier versions of Phootshop. In earlier versions, you must open the PDF as a Generic PDF (not as a Photoshop PDF)" whenever I save my file as a Photoshop PDF.

I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a Macbook Retina Display. I made sure I checked the "Layers" in the "Saved As" dialog, so not sure why its causing my Photoshop PDF files to look faint.
