I'm using ACA2012 x64 but I suppose this question is applicable to all flavors of AutoCAD. Is there a routine that will insert today's date in a drawing and update that entry when the drawing is opened? Fieldeval won't update date fields.
View 3 RepliesI have placed a field directly into my paper space ( not in a block ) to show the current date. This is a company requirement so when the drawing is printed, it shows the date of printing. The field just shows the date that the field was inserted and doesnt update. If i replace it, i get todays date but it stays on the date.
How to get this to always show the current date?
Is it possible to put a date field in a IDW title block that only shows the year?
It's for a copyright date & I'm trying to avoid having to type it in every time or remember to change it every year ion every sheet.

I am having problems with the automatic field updates. I've made a dynamic block with a length parameter "LENGTE (mm)" and a stretch action. In this block I also made a Attribute "LENGTE" the value of this attribute is linked to the length of the parameter with a field. The system variable "FIELDEVAL" is 31, so when I save or plot, or ..., the value of the attribute will be updated to the exact length of the parameter.
Now when I insert the block and stretch the parameter to a desired length and I save the drawing the attribute is updated and it has the same value as the parameter. But when I close the drawing and I open it again AutoCAD changes this value to ###. I tried the command "UPDATEFIELD" but the value doesn't come back. I have made a command string "c^c^_fieldeval;0;0;save;close" so that when i close the drawing AutoCAD sets the system variable FIELDEVAL to 0 then saves it and closes the drawing, so when I open the drawing again AutoCAD doesn't update the fields. That solved the problem. When I open the drawing again, I made a command to put the fieldeval back to the default value "31", so when I change the length parameter the attribute "LENGTE" will be updated again after a save or a plot. But then it goes wrong and AutoCAD changes the value back in ###. What is the reason that AutoCAD can't update that field, it works fine when the drawing stays open but when the drawing has been closed and I open it again it doesn't work anymore?
Settings on the User Preferences Tab (Options Dialog Box) control whether fields are updated automatically or on demand (FIELDEVAL system variable). The Date field cannot be updated automatically regardless of the setting of FIELDEVAL.

I've got a block with multiple attributes. This is not a problem to redefine the blocks attributes.
Some of the attributes contains dynamic fields (blockplace holder x y z parameters) When i insert a block with such atributes that includes the blockplaceholder dynamic fields i get
X: InsertionPoint => It is recognized as an Dynamic field but displays InsertionPoint. and does not update the value.
How can i update the fielddata from vb.net?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a field in a block (titleblock) that will automaticly update when I change the viewportscale.It's mostly only 1 viewport, sometimes a second of even 3rd but, they are not important to the titleblock.
I've read aboud fields and diesel expressions. I've tried and it works. there is only 1 problem,It only works with the object (when field expresssion, object, custom scale) in this case the viewport pressent at that time.
When i use the same field with the same expressions, it does not recognize the viewport/object.Is there a way to make the field, diesel expression or even something else, work without it's need for a
object name. Perhabs that the expression gets the viewportname from a lisp, something like: (setq ss(ssget "X")) ;some thing like this Can it be done?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to leave a SSM field empty on some sheets (Custom Property set to Sheet).
I am using SIMPLEX font in ACAD 2012 on Win 7 64bit.
I have tried using %%U as both default value and sheet value and I get a dot plotted.
If I use U+00A0 or Alt+0160 as default or sheet value I get the actual code showing or the 4 dashes instead of a space.
I have also tried 2 spaces to no avail.
Looks like the only solution is to delete the link to the field and insert it when I use it. Annoying :-(

It it possible to link a field to a layer name? this would make the job that I am doing alot easier. For some reaso the company that I currently work for wants to put the layer discription next to the revcloud instead of just using a delta.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to force text pulled from a drawing property to wrap to fit a cell of Mtext? In otherwords,... a multi line field? Some of our drawing titles are several lines, and instead of wrapping inside the field box in our titleblock, the text just spreads out all over. I'd rather not go back to the old method of having a custom property for Line 1, Line 2 etc....

I have chosen 'object', then selected a line (floor level line lifted to the correct height in the Y axis) then selected 'start' as the property to display, Format: Current units. The problem is the current units are mm but I want the floor levels displayed in Metres but when I try to change this by using the 'Additional Format' button the 'Conversion factor' box is greyed out so I cant convert the value and it wont let me manually edit the Field expression or else I would manually add [1e-007]

Is there a setting that would create a date field that updates only once during the life of the drawing? I would like to create a true CreateDate field where once I save the file the first or second time it stays the same date from there forward.
I have looked at the FIELDEVAL settings. I have a plotted date on my drawings so maybe a general date field is not necessary?
Round off of the value (length) of an inserted field, I wanted to make a round off for the field value that represents the length of a line but sounds that there is no option to do so.
For example:
the 2568 will be rounded off to be 2570
the 2563 will be rounded off to be 2565
This option is available for the dimension objects and wondering why it not offered for the inserted fields.

I would like to link a series of text lines in an autocad drawing to there corresponding fields in an excel sheet, I can not use tables in autocad because of the way other software uses the text in autocad. I have attached files of the text layout in acad and of the sheet in excel. One thing that keeps me from using tables in acad is that every line of text is on a different layer, with tables you can't control the layer of table its always on the current layer.

When using the “title block”, attributes and fields to better control the information that belongs to the drawing, then it worth to have a feature that allows selecting this information from a LIST.
For example, if we need to specify “location” of the project, then it is better to have sort of list from which we can select the location of the project the same we do it in the Excel (as shown in the screenshot below).
Is there such feature in the AutoCAD? To choose the information from a list?
I have had an issue where my text field shows up as "####" even though the the value is still showing up in the custom properties menu. I've tried updating the field and re-inserting the field and it keeps showing up as "####"

For any case where I use this chart, only one of the two boxes will have a checkmark inside of it.Is there a way that I can add a field-like element/action so all I have to do is toggle between one box or the other?
