When i open up after effects i get this warning "Your disk cache folder is on a drive that does not have enough available space to safely store the full amount secified in your preferences. please make more space available or go to media & disk cache preferences to change the folder or maximum disk cache size" I think this is slowing up my whole suite. I clear my disc cache folder all the time and i still get this warning. How can i fix this? Also this is a 2 part question if it can be answered i think it may have to do with the first question. When i try to add a cross dissolve in premiere pro i get this "insufficient media. this transition will contain repeated frames" .
Every now and again and usually after a crash, when I start up AE I get a message saying that the AE media cache folder does not exist. When I check on my drive for that folder, AE is quite right - it is not there. I use a separate SSD for all my media caching and another drive for footage and another as my start up drive. I set AE to use a folder called A:AE Cache. For whatever reason AE is deleting this folder. Other folders on this drive remain as they are. Unless I have a goblin sneaking into my suite on a night deleting this folder or Windows decides to delete this folder all on it's own then it is almost definitely AE that is doing it.
I recently purchased a LaCie external SSD solely for the purpose of storing my After Effects disk cache. The SSD connects to my MacBook Pro via Thunderbolt.
When I check the info on the SSD, it says it has 254 GB available, so I set the maximum disk cache size in AE to 200 GB, and created a folder on the SSD for the cache. Then I pointed to that folder in AE as the specified disk cache folder.
When I relaunch AE, though, it tells me I don't have enough space in my disk cache folder to accomodate the 200 GB max I set, even though I have 254 GB free on the SSD when I check.
Does this have to do with me creating an empty folder on the SSD to house the cache? Do I have to just use the root folder of the SSD to make use of all the available space?I just found out AE doesn't even let you use the root of a drive as the cache folder, so that can't be the problem..
i have found the folder and am going to delete it however i need to know if this is deleted witll all the photos i have in lightroom that have not been exported be deleted?
I have rendered the AVCHD video files (Full HD video) in Video Studio Ultimate X5, and under the "Share | Create Disc" option I created the files to Folder instead of burning directly to Disc as I wanted to save the "Folder" for future Blu-Ray disc burning if needed.
The question is, after the files are created in Folder what is the proper procedure to burn the "Folder" onto a Blu-Ray disc so that the disc will be playable in a Blu-Ray player?
In Bridge I got an error message saying I needed to purge the cache folder, but when I attempt to do that, everything freezes and I have to force quit Bridge. I was told to go to the Bridge cache folder in "library" and delete specific folders there to solve my problem. Unfortunately, I cannot find "library' neither by opening folders and looking nor by doing a search for "library".
I have a couple of users who are saving a render job to a network share using After Effects. Towards the end of the render, they get a warning saying "failed to write xmp metadata" It does not ruin the render or anything. It just shows the warning. They have full access rights to the share. What is causing this error?
I am running W8 with i5 3350 and a GTX 640 and 20GB of 1600 Mhz RAM (all at default settings). I am using AE CS6 11.0.2.12
I am using a dedicated 256 SSD for my cache drive------i.e. the ONLY thing on that drive is the AE cache information. I have allotted different sizes in the cache preferences, from 140- 220GB (The drive has 240GB free space when formatted).
The problem is, that no mater what the size of the cache that I try, if there is less free space on the drive than what the specified cache size is I will get the error
"your disk cache folder is on a drive that does not have enough available space" when opening After Effects.
( 240GB formatted capacity)
160GB of cache specified in preferences + 100GB of information currently cached on drive = 260GB = The error message upon opening after effects
160GB of cache specified in preferences + 60GB of information currently cached on drive = 220GB = No error message
I do NOT get the error if I make the cache small enough, or delete the cache before opening AE, but that completely destroys the purpose of the cache in the first place.
With that, I have two questions:
1. Is there a fix for this that tells AE to cool its jets a little and recognize that the information on the SSD that is taking up space and making not enough space available is AE's own cache information?
2. If the answer to (1) is no, then is this an error I can just ignore without any major issues?
Right now it seems that this means that I can only make my cache<50% of the total formatted capacity of the drive, which seems a bit over zealous.
I just started shooting film again. Having just received back my first few rolls back scanned as JPEGs on to CD, I wanted to import these into my Lightroom library (LR5), but have been unable to do so.
I am trying to import them the same way I import RAW digital files, but when I try that way, they won't import. The only way they import is when there is no destination file set and they are simply stuck in a general "New Folder". Even when I try to simply rename the "new folder" to something more specific I am unable to do so.
I've been using AE CS6 on Mac OS 10.7.4 upon release and updated to 11.0.1 when it was released as well, so for a while, but just today I started to get this warning-
"Ray-tracing on the GPU requires CUDA version 4.0 or later. Ray-tracing will use the CPU until you install the latest supported CUDA driver."
I am running a supported Quadro 4000 with the latest CUDA driver, 4.2.7, and about the only thing I know of that I have installed recently was the update for SpeedGrade today. Why I'm now getting the warning?
I'm using a pc with windows 64 bit, and get this warning when trying to analyse the footage with either the 3D camera tracker or warp stabilizer. A warning pops up that says, unable to obtain dynamiclink server connection, and the footage does not analyse. The only solution is restarting my machine.. not very time saving.
Also similar issue, when I am working on a comp in AE and go to open the edit in premiere pro, premiere freezes and closes without opening.. only way to fix this is to either restart the machine, or have opened a premiere project before opening an AE comp.
I have an SSD disk which has 20 GB of free space that AE uses for cache, and it gets full quite often and I have to empty it every ~4 hours.
My question is can I assign a secondary location for cache for AE to store the cache files and access it from there? If I can't, is there a big difference in working speed between SSD & HDD disks regarding AE cache? (I have 2 TB of free space on an HDD disk that I can use for AE cache).
After Effects CS6: Cache and Reload Footage Problem
I am having trouble getting my footage to update in an AE project.
In an existing project, there is an image sequence in a composition. I have saved and closed AE, modified the footage (same dimensions and qty. of frames, only the pixel data changes), and then re-launched AE and opened the project. Though I have changed the footage, the old content still appears. I have done the following:
Edit>Purge>All Memory Edit>Purge>Image Cache Memory Edit>Preferences>Media & Disk Cache>Empty Disk Cache[code].....
None of these got the footage to update. I could double-click on the footage in the project bin and scrub the play head and the old footage was still displayed. Finally I had to replace the footage with itself and that resolved the issue.
If this is operator error, lack of understanding the cache functions, or something else. I don't recall this behavior in CS 5.5, so I am guessing this is a change in CS 6.

I've been having an issue where the RAM cache disappears as soon as the RAM playback is stopped. Just to be clear, I'm referring to the green indicator along the top of the timeline so you know which frames are cached. This happens on various computers in our facility. It seems to be more common when multiprocessing is enabled. It also happens if you tell After Effects to RAM preview and then switch to another application. After Effects will complete rendering the RAM preview in the background, the icon will bounce in the dock to let you know it's ready, but nothing is cached when you switch back to After Effects. This is something that I've noticed for a couple of years over multiple versions of After Effects both at home and at the office. It seems to happen fairly consistently with specific comps which makes me wonder if it's related to any of the effects that have been applied in that comp.
After Effects CC 12.0 Mac Pro 5,1 OS X 10.8.4 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon 48GB RAM GTX 680
Today I got a SSD just for the cache in AE and set the preferences. I changed the "Disk Cache" to the new SSD and then also changed the second option "Conformed Media Cache" to the new SSD - then watching some videos I noticed others have only changed the "Disk Cache" and left the second option as c:users ameAppDataLocalTemp. I tried to put the second option back, but when I browse for the folder within the preferences framework I cannot see it. Deleting the preferences didn't alter the Conformed Media Cache as set by me today. I changed it today thinking that the new SSD has more space than my c drive which is also an SSD. My questions are, can I leave the conformed media cache on the same drive as the disk cache? If not, can I just make a folder on c drive under users and use that? If neither and I need to reinstate the default folder, how can I see that through the AE preferences dialogue box?
My setup is an i7 3820 with 64gig of RAM, programs running from a SSD, another SSD just for the cache, standard modern hard drives that keep my assets from my project files and another for finished and rendered items. My GPU is an Nvidia GeForce 560 and I have added this to the list so AE uses it.
that is having really slow performance using AE CS6 or AECC and possibly AE CS5.5 I think i might of found out what the problem is.My System specs are below:
- Really slow performance when scrubbing along the timeline.
- Adaptive Resoltion wasn't working at all super slow previewing
- Multiprocessor rendering not working, or taking forever to start up, and sometimes it would work but still not the way it should it was hit or miss
- Disk Caching not working
- many others that I can't think of at the moment
SOLUTION for slow scrubbing of the timeline for Quad, Six and Eight core systems
Here is what I figured out after hours and hours of testing and configuring. I even went back to AE CS5.5 to see if all these problems existed in that version. Although some did but not all
From what I can tell it looks like certain plugins are not compatible to Quad, Six and Eight Core machines. The main plugin that has the problem is Keylight 1.2 that comes bundled now with CS6 and CC.
If you turn off the plugin on your layers scrubbing the timeline speeds up and works like it should. If you want to use keylight then do the following:
- under screenmatte, set the screen softness to 0
- shrink and grow to 0.
If you use any number other than these settings it causes scrubbing and rendering of the timeline to go extremely slow.
SOLUTION for all the issues above for Quad, Six and Eight core systems
After hours and hours of testing I have come to the conclusion that AE CS6 and CC don't work well with Quad, six and eight core systems in general and especially with the keylight plugin.
FIX: Go into your Bios of your computer and set your multiple core to either 1, 2 cores, theis will give you 2 thread or 4 threads. This will fix all the issues as stated below. I haven't tested 4 cores yet but soon will. But I know that 6 and 8 cores definitely does not work it causes all the major issues above.
After setting my system to 1 or 2 cores, Ae is extremelly fast and responsive. Timeline scrubbing is super fast now even with keylight 1.2 and all it's settings. Adaptive resolution now works, Multiprocessing starts up immediately and disk caching is working.
Conclusion
I am not able to set my system to use 8 or all cores in my bios, This causes so many performance issues in AE CS6 and CC and some in even CS 5.5. I need to use either 1 or 2 cores. As you might no this really sucks when I am limiting myself to only 4 threads when I could be using 32 threads. Pleas Adobe look into this issues with these systems that have 4, 6 or 8 core systems. This could possibley just be for Dual core systems too since that is what I have here.
Why is the scrolling on the timeline so slow when Cache indicators are enabled? It's very useful to have cache indicators on but when they are enabled the scrolling (up-down/left-right) on the timeline becomes significantly slow and unresponsive enough to make it unusable. It's more noticeable the more layers are present in each composition. It's very frustrating and it is something that started happening from 5.5 onwards.
I am now on After Effect 12.2 with a Macbook Retina 2.6Ghz i7 and 16gb of ram. The problem was also present on my previous laptop.
I installed my Afterfx and Premiere in "D:program filesAdobe", and MBLooks plugin, it was installed in the folder "D:Program FilesAdobeCommonPlug-ins7.0MediaCore" automatically, but it was not loaded by Afterfx and Premiere, then I move the plugin to "C:Program FilesAdobeCommonPlug-ins7.0MediaCore", it's loaded.
I cannot find my photo effects folder in PS Elements 10. All of my actions are missing. I have looked in spotlight, other folders and cannot find my folder.
I made a project in after effect and it has alot of pictures. I'd like to delete the pictures from my project folder but when i do the pictures are deleted in the after effects project. Is there a way i can embed the pictures so i can delete them from my folder?
Not sure if it's a bug or not but when removing a whole project the "random" folder(s) are still in the Media Storage folder. Everything connected to the project(s) are gone but not the random folder smoke creates when creating project files. Any specific reason their still in the Media Storage folder?
Im a bit of a neat-freak... After removing a whole project, is it safe to remove all the empty folders? Or would that cause problems for other projects?
When I open Elements 9 in Folder Location the images displayed are not those in the highlighted folder. Similarly if I select another folder I see another selection of images from elsewhere in the structure.
I'm new to Elements 10 and I'm having a hard time figuring things out but 1 thing in particular. I'm on a PC and use Windows 7.I already import a lot of pic's to Elements or so I thought.
When I'm in "Folder Location" and click on a folder it doesn't display any pictures and says "No files from this folder have been imported into Elements Organizer. To add any files, right click on the folder and select "Import to Organizer"
So I do as I'm told and then i get this error."Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog."
When importing something off of a DVD or CD how do I direct Lightroom to copy the imported images or folder to a specific folder on my hard drive? It seems to default to MyCatalog but leaves the location on the CD rather than copying it to the drive. If I remove the CD the images is reported as missing.
When I go to the top of the screen for importing I can change the source but the location info on the right is not active or changeable.I am new to lightroom and coming from Photoshop Elements background.
I was in the process of moving a folder inside or LR. I might have clicked and moved it twice since it was very slow. LR wasn't able to complete the move and gave me an error message. After I clicked "OK" on the error message, I wasn't able to find my folder/images from the old or new location. I did a spotlight search on my mac, but I wasn't able to find them anywhere. Where has my folder/images gone? I tried to locate them without any success.
I am new to PS scripting and trying to create a basic script to gather folder paths and then remove the path of that folder. I have created a basic array and while trying to
