3ds Max :: Re-Use Rendering For Optimizing Glare?
Dec 3, 2011
so why render over and over again just for optimizing the glare effect? Isn't it possible to just render once the beauty image and experiment with the glare-effect settings on it?

As a long time Photoshop user I regularly use batch automation in my normal daily routine but there is something I would like some help on...
Currently I have a folder that is filled with hi-res retouched images and I have a batch set up to save each file first as a large (web optimized) version in one folder and then as a smaller thumbnail version in another folder.
This is how I usually save the images but when I submit them they all need to be inside a single folder with specific extensions explaining the size of the file (ie the original file named "file123" would be saves as two versions called "file123_large" and "file123_thumb") in the same folder...
Is there a way I can add these extensions onto the file when it's being optimized for the web? I've always renamed these manually and it's just so repetitive and seems like a waste of time.

I've been using GIMP for a while now, but have come across an issue I'm having difficulty solving regarding the optimization / shrinking of a large HD sized PNG image.
The dimensions of the image are 1920 by 1028 with opacity set at 33%, for a website background. The website template uses another image to create a 'noise' effect. If I leave the image as color and optimize with the "Save For Web", it comes down to 968KB from 3.7MB! If I remove the color / De saturate and save as GIF, down to 424KB. If I save as GIF and Dither, comes down to 125K, but the end image is dithered, and very ugly .

I'm working with large files starting at 24x48" @ 240 dpi. Usually with a few layers, Smart layer, then processing several plug-ins like NIK, TOPAZ, etc.
It can take a long time to save the native PS file (around 1.5G), and then I save off jpgs at full res for the printer, and use save for web to process a web jpg around 1200 pixels wide.
This is what I have. Win7 64, a 1gb Nvidia GTX 460, 12gb ram, the OS is on a 64gb SSD.
which of the3se can speed things up?
1) Add a second SSD for the Cache/APP/ and working files (PSDs)
2) I don't think my system can go beyond 12gb RAM unfortunately it is a couple year old i7
3) Would a different video card do anything? More video RAM?
I do believe the latest NIK plug-ins use the GPU, but I will check. Would any of these thing make a noticeable performance boost?

Im importing large plots from autocad in .pdf format into corel to annotate and overlay a few images , these drawings have literally thousands of lines are really slowing the computer down a lot making it impossible to do anything, is there a way to optimize these so they run any faster? i really dont want to have to flatten them into raster images as it defeats the point of it!

I don't know what the correct name in Smoke but ussually in Nuke it's called ROI (Region of Interest) , ROI define which area that need to be rendered and which area/pixel which will be ignored to optimize render time. How can i deal with this in Smoke ? For example in 3d space in action module, i put a lot of layers (floating in 3d space) using hires still images (above 4k x 4k). All the layer is put outside the frame (frame size is hd 1920) so they're not visible. The screen is actually blank ( no object is visible at all) . But unbelievable... the render took forever ! Definitely , something need to be fixed.
In Nuke , if the objects are not 'in-frame' then they will be ignored even when i got many super hires images, the render will still be very fast . It won't calculated the 'garbage' objects.

Today, after moving some folders that were incorrectly located (based on year/month/date) back to their proper location, I optimized the catelog. I then discovered that all my keyword tags were missing, but the image caption and description ("Notes") were not lost. This amounts to approximately 10 years worth of images.
Why did did I lose all the keyword tags? How can I recover them? I have not closed or restarted the Elements Organizer, nor have I tried to Repair the catalogs for fear of overwriting something that cannot be corrected. When should the repair catelog be used?
I am using a Dell desktop computer with Windows XP. We have an external HD for backup that is supposed to be constantly syncing for backup.

I have a photo that was taken outside. It has some glare from the sun. Is there any way to remove the lines. It is the only photo that we took standing like that outside, and my roommate and his newlywed wife probably would like this picture. I have it posted online, if you need to look at it or download it (I havnt had a chance to resize it or anything, so it is pretty big at the moment)

I have used PS to edit my car photos for a while now, but there is one thing I still haven't mastered.
In the photo below I would like to remove the sun glare 'spots' you can see on the rear wheel arch (plus a few smaller ones also), but when I try to colour that area it never blends nicely with the rest of the paintwork.

trying to reduce the amount of glare in this picture of my car. The picture will be used in a calendar so I need it to look professional. I tried getting rid of the glare spots by using the healing brush, smudge, and blur tools, but I'm clueless when it comes to the white spots. I tried using a black fill with opacity set to 8, and that helped a little bit. I'm attaching the original and the modified versions, but if anyone wants the high res version to edit it,

I have seen some similar topics on the forum, but they all seem to relate to the removal of a flash reflection, or correcting contrast from photos taken in direct sun.
This is a particularly bad photo which I need to improve and I'm honestly not sure if it's just a lost cause.

I have an interior shot of a living room. There is a framed paiting on the wall which has a reflection from the window on the opposing wall. I'm not sure how to remove the reflection while keeping the integrity of the photo. Another possible fix could be doing a mirror image of the photo itself to "cover" the glare spot on the other half of the painting. I have much to learn when it comes to photoshop.

Back in the early 80's I had an exhibition of my paintings and took photos from an Olympus OM-10. Each painting had a spotlight mounted above it and as you can see from the attached picture, the light glare is strong at the top of the painting (washing out the color and details) and the glare extends about halfway down the photo. I have Photoshop CS3 Extended. how to eliminate the glare from the top half of the painting?
