I'm new to 3DS Max Design and I'm trying to export a model to .3ds format. When I open the .3ds file in 3DS Max it looks fine. However, when I open it in other programs, like Google Sketchup, the model is not correct. Objects are not aligned correctly. See the pic.

Trick to keeping objects aligned with a helix when using an associative path array? The animation below demonstrates the problem where I can't seem to keep the "treads" on a spiral stairs aligned with the center of the helix. (fewer objects accentuate the problem)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've rendered a prepass for the IR and sent the job to BB like normal. The issue is with one piece of geometry. It's rendering it out of place when rendered through bb. If I render the frames directly in Max it renders correctly. This would be fine but I'm trying to render a 300+ frame batch to fix this area and I'd really like to be able to use the farm.
I tried copying the transform keys from the object, deleting it and replacing it with a fresh copy of the geometry made in a fresh/empty file and then pasting the keys back on. Then rendered out the prepass in Vray and I'm still getting the problem. It's obviously not with Vray because when I render directly through max it renders correctly. It's got to be BB but I'm completely stumped as to why or how to fix it. It's as if BB is getting incorrect geometry information from the max file.
The object renders through bb transformed in the x axis. In other words, the object is rendered about 3 feet off to the right of where it actually is.
My mtext and multileader styles are created to be "annotative"; however, they didn't have a consistent size through all my different scaled viewports. When I drew them on my model, I added the scales needed, but on the viewports, the only objects consistent in size were the "Drawing Title" from my tool palette and the arrowhead from the multileaders.
When I created these objects, I typed in 0'-0" for the height. But then in the text panel (Annotate tab) I saw there is a drop-down menu with different heights, which seem to override the 0'-0" height.
I ended up drawing these objects on paper space, and they looked fine until I opened the drawing days later (the text was considerably larger).
How can I draw mtext or multileaders on model space, and add scales correctly?
how you get objects, say i drew a rectangle, to the correct size from model space to paper space. And why when you change the dimensions of an object to meters from milimeters, does it not change the size of the object on paperspace when it's at the same scale.

I created a closed object that had a Bezier curve as part of it's definition. I wanted to scale it by 110% and then use this second enlarged object to create a sort of a background underneath the first object to create a sort of a shadow effect. But rather than the second object being uniformly larger than the first it intersects the original object in ways that don't make sense to me.
Is there an easier/differnt way to create an effect like this? I can do it but have to manually adjust a lot of points in the new object so that they create a uniformly larger version of the original object but it's a lot of effort for something that works fine for normal polygons with straight lines (e.g. a star with 5 points).
i've attached an image of what I get with this technique of creating two examples of two objects one a 110% scale version of the other. The first star shows the effect I'm trying to get and the second shows the problem (the red border does not surround the black object uniformly around the perimeter)
I have noticed this problem while cutting with cut tool in vertex mode an editable poly. I am getting this preview of aligned vertexes. Can I switch this option off? Because it just get's in the way.

View 8 Replies View Related I have been in the process of making a map which I currently have in illustrator. I also downloaded some administrative boundaries which I have converted to a path in illustrator and am trying to overlay on top of this map.
The problem is, it just doesn't line up. If the top is aligned, the bottom and sides will be off.
Is there a way to select a few points on the path of which I know the exact position on the map and have illustrator warp, skew, resize the path and it will magically fit?
I need to be able to Wrap Text along the outside of a circle, i now i used to use Arc-Aligned text but cant find it in Autocad 2013 on a Mac.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI teach in a large HS and students (and AutoCAD) occasionally stump me. I have architectural templates with layouts set up for Arch D paper. We almost always print to either ANSI B or Arch C paper. I have a routine for students to follow which will properly scale and position the layout on the desired paper size. Occasionally a student will do something to the layout which causes the WCS to be placed other than at the lower left print corner.
The result is the corner of the border line is displaced and half the drawing is off the page. When I check the limits the lower left corner has some very large values (don't know how they got changed). Most of the time we have to create a new layout and copy/paste the border and viewports.
Running 5.5 I double clicked on the rubber stamp tool & cleared the aligned box in the rubber stamp options palette. Then I alt clicked in the image. Then I clicked & dragged in another part of the image. The cross cursor at the source point moved as if the aligned box was still checked. How do I get the rubber stamp to work in the non-aligned mode?

View 9 Replies View Related[URL] How is it possible that I place an aligned dimension between two paralel grids and the dimensions changes as I drag it up and down? First of all, in order to be able to place an aligned dimensions the objects have to be absolutely paralel to each other, so I don't get why when I move the dimension it changes. If the grids were really not paralel to each other Revit shouldn't allow me to place the aligned dimension in the first place, isn't that right?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to add a block with a center aligned attribute to drawing file that is not open in the autocad editor; however, the attribute alignment doesn't display when i open the drawing. But when i open the attribute editor i can verify that the alignment is set properly and then after closing the attribute editor window the alignment actually displays correctly even though no changes were made.
I read a number of other posts with the same or similar issue, but i still have been unable to get mine to display right. My code is below. What do I need to do to force the attribute alignment to display correctly?

“Aligned to selected levels” is not active,
I’m wondering why the option “aligned to selected levels” is not active as I copy and paste from one level to another.

Why aligned dimensions won't work with the entire walls option when the selected wall and either adjacent wall meet at a non 90 degree corner? Seems screwy (non-intuitive) to me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to edit the percision for an aligned dimension. I know that the aligned dimension requires walls to be parallel. But what if two walls are .000000002 degrees off from being perfectly parallel? Would that really be enough of a difference to make thealign dimension tool unuseable? Is there a way to change the percision for the aligned dimension to read fewer decimal places? I have a rather large project that is in the later stages of CD's and really don't want to have to recheck the alignment of every wall.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have alignement of wall or embankment. I have existing ground including this corridor river. I have also CSV file with points (x,y,z). On my sketch there is drawn. Points present FDL (flow defence level) maximum level of river in case of huge rain or other things. These are almost aligned. I need to transform it (project) into alignment. I have to create profile of EG, FDL (based on this point) and then create new profile of height of wall or bank. What is the best solution for projecting this points. I tried with grading (distance and grade0%) I tried then with offsetting this feature line based on points and used it as breaklines. Created surface had holes.Even real is worst because alignment is perpendicular in same places to river.

I just started using AutoCAD 2011 (I was previously using AutoCAD 2005) and am having a hard time finding my old controls while learning all the new features for which I got the program.
I've been having a problem in illustrator for the last couple of days that I haven't had before. It doesn't just happen with this graphic, it has happened with other objects, even happened with a circle yesterday. It doesn't happen to all objects on the artboard though, just particular ones.
I've drawn these shapes with the pen tool, but the stoke and fill aren't aligned aligned with the path that I've drawn. It's causing issues when I resize (see image below) and also when I align. It aligns the path correctly but because that image doesn't match the path it looks wrong.
