3ds Max :: Backburner And Final Gather Generation

I am working with a network and it works for standard rendering.
I want to use it to pre-generate the FG maps. I have tried the "generate now" button, but that makes the FG calculate locally on the current machine... even with Net render checked.
When I try doing a render using the frames just as junk, it renders out, but does not save the FG map.
Working with max 2012 and Backburner.

I'm trying to optimize the rendering time on pre-rendering my Final Gather map.
I've set it to every 5 frames and halved the resolution of my FG map compared to the final render but I'm wondering if some of the other roll-outs such as the Image Precision, Soft Shadows, Glossy Reflections and Refractions make a difference to the FG map. Can I knock these settings down a notch or two, or do I have to keep them the same as the final render?

After I installed design 2011 student version, I can't move the final gather presets or for that matter there are no presets available to change. And the values go erratic often. I switched to scanline and back to MR but that doesn't rectify it.
And also there are no geographic locations available in my daylight system

If I generated FG maps with interpolation of every 3 frames and I use read FG points at every 2 frames. Would this be wasting my time? Would it be better if I just set it to 0? Once it starts rendering it comes up with warning signs saying it can't find specific FG maps which is understandable. Would max have to generate new ones (because this would be a waste of render time) and if it does can I somehow just tell it not to?
It is an animation that I am rendering (moving car and moving camera).

I've got a scene set up with a lot of objects (about 680 of them), and about a million polys. I'm in the process of trying to render out the animation and I'm running into some problems.
When I am attempting to recalculate my final gather maps so I can interpolate between frames and reduce flicker in the final animation, it is halting at different frames depending on what final gather settings I'm using, but halting with every setting I've tried.
This last time I tried it with "Low" default settings (.4, 150, 30, 0 bounces) and it stopped on frame 90 at 99.9% of "computing final gather points". With other settings it has stopped at frame 102 at 95.4%, and on another setting frame 87 at 66.5%. The most common percentage to halt at has been 99.9% of Computing Final Gather Points, but the frame number it halts on and the percentage varies.
The halt is repeatable and happens at the same exact spot in the animation depending on the settings. So if I use "Low" (.4, 150, 30, 0) it will always stop at frame 90 at 99.9% Computing Final Gather Points. The other settings will produce the same result over and over as well. I also attempted to re-start the precalculation from the frame that it halted on (after deleting the previous FGM file for that frame). Frame 90 still halts at 99.9%... or frame 102 halts at 95.4%... etc...
I can, however, get frame 91 to complete it's final gather map if I set the sequence to pick up on the next frame and go from there.I will attach an image of the model/scene I'm currently working on.

Max 2013 now can't read or write final gather maps. I get an error cannot open map file. I have tried using a unc path \server name. I had the problem previously whan I moved to win 7 and I got around it by turning off my UAC. But that is off.

I was wondering if After Effects has a tool that can gather data from my renders and graph time spent rendering each frame?
For instance..
Frame001 took 2 seconds to render.
Frame002 took 25 seconds to render.
By using this data I could hopefully find problem areas in my comps. I am currrently using AE CC

I am trying to write a layer gathering and changing program that will store a lists of layers based on layers they need to be changed to. I am writing it in C# and the part that is killing me is I need to store the old layers before I convert them so that way in the future the program will automatically know to change those layers to the appropriate layer.
I am trying to use an .xml file to permanently store the layers, and a serializer to read the layers into a dictionary so that I can search and see if I have already come across a layer.
I know that sounds very convoluted so let me simplify the problem. We have our layers which are only 7 layers. We get drawings from outside sources and they have their layers. Their layers correspond to one our 7 layers. We have a list showing which of their layers correspond to one of our layers. When we get drawings with layers we've never seen before, we need to search through the list to confirm it isn't already there and if it is not present, then ask the user to which of our layers their new layer should be associated.
I want to store the data in a xml file in a manner similar to this <ourlayertheirlayer> ourlayer1, somerandomthintg ourlayer1, anotherrandomthing ourlayer1, thisrandomthing ourlayer2, whatisthis ourlayer2, whoisthis ourlayer3, whycantifigurethisout ourlayer3, canyoufigureitout</ourlayertheirlayer>
Then I want to serialize the xml file and save the data in a Dictionary<string,string> type whre the first string is one of our layers and the second string is their layer.
I want the data in the xml file to persist between application sessions, but the dictionary would be filled each the program is started.Later in the program I will use the Dictionary to gather all the objects based on their layer, the second string in the dictionary, and convert them to our corresponding layer, the first string in the dictionary.
I am having trouble setting up my types in C# though. How do I create an xml serializer that will read ourlayer, theirlayer from an xml file and save it to a Dictionary. The data doesn't have to be in the xml file in that format either, I just can't think of an easier way than commas to sepearte the two pieces of data.

I used photoshop to generate a webpage(800*600 resolution) which contains a header and footer, the middle part contains the left column(with blue background) and right column. In the right column(after slice, it's generated as white image), it shows the main content. I removed that image and replaced by text. However, when there are more rows than the cell height(right column), the whole web structure will be distorted.
I would like to know how to make the left column to have the same height as the right column when the height of right column is growing.

I'm in the process of porting my plugin to CS6 (was on CS3 SDK) on Windows and I have encountered an issue with thumbnail generation. The plugin will pick the selected art content and generate a thumbnail with AIArtSet, AIRasterize and AIRasterSuite. This code had been working on CS3, CS4 and CS5, both Mac and Windows.
Now on CS6, when calling sAIRasterize->Rasterize(), I get an error that says "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [CANT]". AI pops the error directly to the user while the return value from the method call is zero (no error). While investigating, I found the error message isn't poping up if the color space is not RGB related, although the image is often a black rectangle.
I've played with the AIDrawImageSuite to try to design an alternate method to generate thumbnail but I was only successful with the Draw Color Swatch method call (copying the sample code)
I've only tested on Window so far. I'm getting this same CANT message when choosing the web profile for a new document. I'm not seeing the message on Mac but I haven't tested the code on CS6 MAc yet. How do you generate thumbnails on CS6?

i have created a simle part file which has a User parameter (L). The part should be cut with a laser cutting machine.
My problem is, that there is 76 different dimensions for L parameter. So I have to generate 76 different dxf drawing.
is there a way to crearte a VBA code for modifying the L parameter, regenerate the part file, and export the surface of the part file as a DXF file?

I have an assembly which includes another one assembly also. So the issue is when i am generating the bill of material, the assembly which i have attached to the main assembly showing as single item with the assembly name.
The sub assembly i have attached to the main assembly by place and constaint option.does that making the problem ?

I have created a point cloud and surface from LiDAR data. The point cloud data was relatively large from what I am familiar with (approximately 30 GB all told), and ESRI ASC surface file (approximately 8 GB) was generated after a laborious wait. However, when I attempt to add the ASC file as a raster to view the surface, MAP 3D crashes and loses connection with my PC (i.e. window freezes, and I have to force MAP 3D to shutdown). My computer is fairly updated with quad core processor, 3 GB RAM, etc. Is this not enough power to process such a large image file, or have I error ?

My print shop will only accept TIFF, JPEG or PhotoShop formats. They will *NOT* accept PDF or HTML. Unfortunately, I need to print several hundred images with captions, page numbers, and headings (each page has unique text).
So I need a program that will layout a page with images (JPEG, TIFF, or PhotoShop) and text (captions, page numbers, headers); then output this page in TIFF, JPEG or PhotoShop formats. I need it to run in batch mode on several hundred images because I don't want to edit each page manually.
If I could find an "HTML to TIFF/JPEG/PhotoShop converter" that would run in batch mode, or had a command line interface, I'd be very happy.
Then I could write a simple PERL script that would automatically create the HTML pages and run the converter on them. Life would be easy.
Unfortunately, the converters I've found limit the resolution to 72dpi (too low), or won't run in batch or command line mode.
So I'd appreciate any recommendations for a program that will automatically generate TIFF/JPEG/PhotoShop pages with images and text, or recommendations for an HTML converter. Either will do.

I'm woring with 2D polylines as exported from another piece of software. The problem I have is that the LTGeneration resets to disabled evertime a polyline is edited, ie broken or trimmed. Plinegen is set to 1 as the system variable, but as far as I can tell every time a line is broken etc it creates a new entity that doesn't inherit the ltgen properties of the previous line or the system variables. I know i can convert to polylines, but is there a better way?

I am using CorelDraw 12. I am trying to automate the Art work generation process using the Interop.CorelDraw Assembly along with C# .Net. I am facing a problem. When I am creating a word object, if the Height of the Text is greater than 21cms the art work is not being generated. It took me a while to understand this. I am not really sure how to remove the size range for the Text.

In the sheet profile view the sampled(existing ground) profile for all 3 profiles does not generate the correct linetype(sample 1). The design drawing that I created the individual sheet from displays it correctly (sample 2). The preferences show it is generating(sample 3), it’s just not displaying correctly in the sheet itself.

I have a piece of code that needs closed polylines.
I use the following selectionfilter to filter the selection so I can only select closed polylines:

Today I noticed that in some drawings this filter won't select all the closed polylines for me.
After some experimenting I found the 'linetype generation' property of the polylines to be the problem. If this is enabled the above filter will not let me select a closed polyline. If I disable it, there is no problem.
How can I make my code for selecting closed polylines more robust? Is there a 'TypedValue' for closed polylines with the linetype generation enabled?

I am just starting to learn C# and .NET and I am trying to write a simple program to gather all the layers from a drawing in a directory, save them to a list, and use that list to change those layers to the appropriate layers. The way I want it to iterate is open the first drawing, gather the layers, ask the user which layer they want to change the original layer to, and when they select the new layer, it associates that old layer with the new layer so that in the future it won't prompt the user, it will just change it to that layer. Then it changes the layers and goes to the next drawing.
I wrote something very simple in LISP, but I need to make it more advanced and try to add in more features. Specifically I would like to be able to do everything in the background, without actually opening the drawings so I can avoid any user prompts or dialogue boxes.
I am at a complete loss at where to start though. There are so many members in the different namespaces for Autocad. Right now I am looking through acdbmgd.dll and acmgd.dll to try and find something useful, but I have no idea where to even start.
My guess would be to first define a method that gathers the layers from the drawing and saves them to an array. For example i would have multiple arrays for the different layers to which I want to convert the old layers, string [] 0layer, string [] walllayer that contains all of the layers to be changed to layer 0 and wall layer. Then I would compare the layers in the drawing to those arrays, if they are not present in any of the arrays, the program would prompt the user and ask which layers they want to change the existing layer to and add it to the appropriate drawing. Then all of the layers in those arrays would be changed to the different new layers.
At the very least, I am going to start making the different arrays to be filled. That much I can do. I'm just having trouble actually getting the data from the drawings.

Any plugin or something that gathers all the colors within a given image and allows you to save the pallete in another image...If you seen a sprite sheet thats pretty much what Im asking for.It'd be cool if the colors were sorted by how dark it was and by RGB.

I've finally set up my renderfarm. I have Maya 2012 suite (network install) and Max 2012 (dedicated install) on my workstation. I have a network licence manager computer for Maya 2012 and 4 renderfarm computers for backburner. (Thats how I presumed the setup should be)
The installs for the workstation and licence manager are working fine. I'm now trying to install backburner on the render farm computers but cannot install backburner without installing the whole 3dsmax suite.
My questions are is this setup correct?Do I have to install the full suite on the renderfarm computers to get backbuner to work?

This is what I am doing:
1. Main Computer> I run a Manager
2. Main Computer> I run a Server which connects to the Manager (no problems here).
3. Main Computer> I run a Monitor.
4. Second Computer> I run a Server, it connects with Manager on the Main computer no problems.
5. Main Computer> I click connect in the Manager and it connects showing both computers available and idle.
6. In 3dsmax 2013, I choose Network rendering and it pops out the window where I leave options as they are and click connect in the available server list it only shows the Main computer the other one is not there (although it is in the Monitor list). When I start rendering only one computer is used for the process.

I have a small render farm of about 6 computers running Backburner for a Max Design 2013 animation. After working fine last week, one particular computer is not able to run Server, although all the rest of the computers seem to work fine. On Server startup, the error message is:
Error receiving information: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host (0x2746)I'm not finding very specific information regarding the message by searching Google.

I'm trying to fix a backburner/3ds max problem that's been plaguing our render farms at work for some time now. I'll give an example of what happened with last nights renders.
I sent a scene off to get rendered, and the footage that comes back has a texture from one of the objects flickering between 2 different versions of the texture. In this case, a normal map on one of the workstations was rendering a slightly older version. I had edited the normal map earlier that day and it was rendering the version of said normal map in the state it was before I editted it. It's not limited to normal maps, just any texture file really. It's also not a GI flicker. We can't seem to pin down the reason why a server or workstation would use what appears to be an outdated texture.
We were hoping our recent transition to a domain based network would fix this but it hasn't. Texture files are packaged and sent with any backburner job, so even if the workstation is has a local, older version of the same texture file, it shouldn't matter.
The OS on the workstations is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and the render servers run Windows 7 server. Rendering with vray 2.0, 3ds max 2012 x64.

My rig is a laptop with two GB of memory and an Intel celron 900 processor. I am modeling out a building and have begun adding light sources. This has put a huge drag on my laptop, and I can barely move the viewport. is there a way to share the load via backburner or something else with a much more powerful rig?
