every time I export my webpage out of Xara pro 7 it keeps exporting SWF files I have deleted and have been replaced. So instead of one SWF file in my index_htm_files I have 3, 2 of which I don't need. How do I stop this from happening.
But I am having some issues in exporting Xara files to either JPG or PNG.
I am developing maps in Xara for use in an online program called Maptool. My current project is to vector a city built around a volcano so it has better detail than what it did in the original map. First off this is a very large map and I have to be able to zoom in use the standard scale of 5ft for use in Maptools (it is probably zoomed in to about 50ft for this).
1. What is the best format and settings to export a file so that when I zoom in real close (500% to 600% zoom) it doesn't look badly pixelated? I also want it to still have good visuals when I zoom it out to 15% to see the whole map (or most of it.
2. When I export the file as a PNG and open it in maptool to use it as a map some of the objects I placed on it in Xara have either moved slightly or changed size. I am not sure which yet but they look more re-sized than anything. Why and how do I stop this?
3.When I exported the map one time I noticed a building was missing from the original xara file. I went back to recreate it and it was still there, so I assumed I just didn't have it clicked when I exported it. That wasn't the case. The building shows up where I originally drew it but I can't edit or delete it. I can see it, but when I copy and paste or export it into another file the building isn't there.
4. Is it possible to change the units and size of the artboard after the project has been created and worked on for a few days? If so, how?
I tried to move my map project to a new file (after encountering the problem described in #3 above). The original settings were in pixels and is a very huge map. I set the new document in inches (or feet) but I couldn't make the artboard large enough to fit my project. I am not sure how to change from one measurement to another. When I did first save it in another file I could not edit the whole map as my limits are the new document size settings and my project is larger than those settings.
My current export settings are: True color + Alpha. I have removed all the transparency effects as they look horrible in the export so far.
Up until this morning I have been able to successfully import .eps files into Xara Pro Designer 6.
This morning, try as I might I am unable to open a new .eps file which has been sent to me.
All 'old' .eps files already on the system can be opened correctly. The artist sending me the files is not doing anything different at their end. I'm not doing anything different at my end.
To add to the confusion ... an .eps sent yesterday opened correctly. Today it does not and displays "Access violation exception at 0.09681E2C". I did 'tidy up' my folders so it's possible I may have messed up the directory for this one.
I am using xara xtreme 4, i always used it to import large A1 size pdf files to resize them with xara on A4 page. I am trying to import now a 50 mb pdf file, after asking me if i need to optimize for editing i click import, it shows that it is converting the document then it asks me if i need to merge or insert to a new page i click merge and finally nothing shows on my sheet, still empty!
X1: I have no clue what I might have done to cause this, but all of a sudden when I copy/paste or import a graphic it comes in empty with red dash line around what would be the graphic plus the handles. The files are JPGs and PNGs. Any clues?
Why for some reason or other, all my xar.files have changed to DP7's icon? I have hundreds of files and not being able to see a thumbnail of them is a nuisance. They were all showing just fine then when I switched on the next time, they had all changed to icons. I'm still running Windows Vista 32 bit, which I have never had a problem with, so how to get the thumbnails back?
I'd like to saturate all colors in 132 .xar files.
I had a look at xarlib and I did not try to compile something since I first need to get Visual C++ to use the supplied pre-built libraries, and I thought I better wait and ask, because in the documentation there's written the year 2007, so Xarlib might be out of date and not work with current .xar files.
My questions:
-Is xarlib still up to date? And is there a sample or framework that I could use to manipulate .xar files? -Is there anything else that I could try?
I can't seem to find any info about extruding shapes that are in PNG format etc.
For example, if I have a star shape in a PNG file (or BMP etc) is it possible to extrude it in Designer Pro? If the image file needs to be converted to another format
I have 10 years worth of .pngs with layers that I created using Fireworks. I recently rebuilt my system and really really didn't want to install/reinstall any Macromedia software in the new system so I got Photo & Graphics Designer 6.
It looks great for editing photos, however I still need to get to the individual layers of some graphics that are in Fireworks .png format.
Is there some conversion/import in any Xara software that accesses the layers? Any other raster program other than Photoshop or Fireworks.
Is there any way to force Xara to open an empty document and no other files? On load, my DP7 attempts to open a prior document that involves a complex Photoshop filter render. DP7 is hanging up here, the status bar reading, "Please wait: rendering Live Effects..." I could always reinstall if it comes to that, but if there's an easier workaround,
I have somehow lost my ability, in P&GD7, to export and open previously-created pdf files. It's not an "option" in the exprot drop-down. Where the heck did it go? I re-installed and it's still not there and I need it!
Some jpg files are stored with the file extension .jpg and some are strored with .jpeg. Actually when you rename the extension from .jpeg to .jpg it seems to make no difference and the file is still usable with most software including Xara Designer Pro 9 that I use.
I remember that in older versions of Xara, when you exported to jpg, the filter for the file listing was [*.jpg; *.jpeg] and all the files with the respective extensions where listed and you could pick an existing file to write over it or select it and use a similar name. In Desiner Pro 9, when I select "export to jpeg" the only filter is [*.jpg]. So I do not see the jpeg files anymore.
I could just rename the .jpeg file to .jpg ... but why not show the .jpeg files also? Is there a way in Xara to get this feature back? Am I missing something?
In Designer Pro 6 Under Options, Backups, there's a check box that says, "Backup open documents on program close and restore on program start." Sometimes I want some of my open documents to reopen on program start (I think this is great!) But my problem is even when I first close those documents (that I don't want to open on program restart) before closing XDP6, when I reopen XDP6 the ones that I closed reopen. What can be done to change this behavior if I want to keep the box checked?
I'm so excited to recieve my new CD in the post but... I am halfway through a design project, and if I install the new latest version Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 7
1. Will my old Xara X1 (cd version) files work in latest version if I upgrade/install XP/GP7?
2. and will they be 2 stand alone programs and can switch between the two? or overwrite each other>?
At this time I am unable to locate my original cd, which has been in mass storage, so I fear installing just to find out, otherwise I wouldnt have asked this forum, backed up my design project and tried this already.
i have been trying for the past hour to export these two files as pdfs for large format print. everything exports fine except the gold trophy design, how to export these for use for large format solvent printing, i normally dont have a problem but this golden shield vector appears to be the problem.
When I import some PDF-files to XDPX (8) (Windows XP SP 3) it shows with CMYK colours. That means that I can't use the material as all colours are "wrong".
Is there a way of importing PDF-files so that they show with RGB colours?
Could that be an option in forthcoming versions; that you can select to import either as CMYK or RGB?
I downloaded a trial of Xara Xtreme and Xara 3d 6. Well, I wasn't happy with Xtreme. The demo is sans textures and a few other things and seems to have the need to contact home for everything. I really don't like demos that don't offer the full app. Xara 3d 6 however was really quite a surprise. Then I recalled purchasing 5 last year just for fun but never installing it. I located the disk and ran it. What I didn't know was that I could export quite a few file formats usable in PS, not just animated gifs. That the image can be fully manipulated using keyboard commands and that you can create textures in other apps like Bryce, ZBrush and PS and place the jpegs into Xara's texture folder and use them as applicable textures. Now, as you may know, a great source for shapes can be found using fonts. Using fonts in Xara, applying some homegrown textures along with the inherent 3d capabilities of Xara 3D will be a great source of elements for the type of work I do in Photoshop.
I'm doing a bit of very simple DTP in Xara and I wanted to check my approach to creating text across multiple pages:
1) Create a text block (I think Xara calls these a 'story') about the size of the page on Page 1 and then enter a bunch of text until it spills out of the bottom.
2) Add a second page.
3) Here's where I may not be doing things 'correctly'... I want the spill over from Page 1 to go onto page 2 so I copied the text block on Page 1, Paste it in-place onto Page 2, deleted the text content on Page 2 then finally go back to page 1 and drag from the little icon in the bottom right of the text block into page 2's block.
When exporting to SVG is there a way to just have the graphic exported and not the whole page? Even when the graphic is selected when going into the Export option the saved file shows the whole page and not just the graphic.
Well, I've searched and this, apparently, is not a problem. I'm running Windows 7 pro 32 bit and don't get thumbnails from my Xara photo&Graphic designer 6. I've put up with it for months now, ever since I loaded W7, due to sheer inertia (laziness) meaning to look for a solution, and now that I do, thinking it was something I'd overlooked I can't find anything..
I just downloaded this months freebie from the Xara newsletter... it was a package of textures. I have never downloaded textures or other things like this before so I have a dumb question, lol... I unzipped the folder, but I don't know where to put the textures. I thought there would be a "textures" folder or something in the program files that would be obvious, but I'm not seeing anything.
Are there additional plugins coming soon? If not, for me, there isn't much of a reason to use the 64 bit in what I do. Or, possibly, I'm not aware of advantages 64 bit is bringing me right now.
