Xara :: How To Slice Off A Piece Of Image
Nov 25, 2011
Suddenly I'm having problems with the Arrange/combine/slice feature.
When I attempt to slice off a piece of an image, another straight cut occurs somewhere else on the image.
On the attached sample, I drew a wavy line like the one shown across the right arm of girl in the image and along with the expected slice was the vertical slice through the image. I backed up and started again, and the exact same vertical slice occurred.
This happens frequently, the unwanted slice is always straight , but sometimes horizontal, and sometimes angled. I'm using Wacom Cintiq tablet.
I'm having the same problem with my trial 7 version. I've been 'slicing' since Xara was a puppy.

I am trying to cut a piece of the enclosed text/image. It is an h and I want to simply cut the the curly part of the h at the end so I can attach it to the end of another text f, but with me using a rectangle and the Clipview technique to do this I am getting a larger space for the entire image so when I attempt to change the colour the whole rectangle's colour changes.
how I can simply trim the end/curly side of the h without getting rid of the png style effect?

I'm trying to slice an image using the filter-web-slice function but I was wondering if there is a way to customize the function or change its properties in the Python-Fu. I need gimp to slice by columns (start in the top left corner slice each grid down the column then proceed to the next column. Right now all I can get gimp to do is cut by rows. Normally gimps function would be fine but I need the image labeled a particular way so I can use the individual files in a map for a game. I'm making a 118 images so renaming them by hand would take too long.

I tried the slide tools, hand tool, and the track select tool. I know host to highlight the remainder of the timeline.

I have a specific requirement which is to apply an image, pattern or text to a 3d dome. The dome is will be in two half's and layed flat in 2d then printed off with the design so that when the two halves are joined together the image or pattern matches across the seam. Is this even possible?

when it comes to graphics editing. I want to distort an image by dragging a point around, resulting in the image being stretched or pulled by that point. I'm not seeking the stretch/distortion, as much as the movement of bits of the picture.
For example, imagine a smiley-face. I want to click and hold the mouse button on the end of the smile & then pull down to below the center of the smile. Do that again for the other end of the smile. Result = a 'frownie-face'.
Is there anyway to do such a thing with Paint.NET, or an existing plug-in?

The project involves me cutting out pieces of various images, and pasting them into one main image. It was going fine for the first ten or so image pieces, but the last time I tried to do it, something very strange happened.
When I pasted the piece of an image into my main image, it came out red and transparent.why it's doing this because I didn't change anything or do anything differently. What can I do to fix this?

I have received permission to use the attached logo (1st image) on a business card for a project.
I want to place it on a blue background, so I've copied the type in Illustrator switched the colors so everything can be read against blue and worked well. However, I can't seem to get whatever file type I place of the shield in Illustrator (tiff, jpg, gif) to not have white pixels around it. You'll see what I mean in the attached 2nd image.
I made a selection of the shield and then did a layer mask of the rest of the logo. There are some extra pixels but some are so small that I don't think I can get them all. I've tried placing the logo in InDesign too and there is the same issue.

I want to make slice image with transparent background. I set the slice option background color to my background color. But when the image is on my html page set against the same background color, it has white halo around: How can I get rid of the white halo?
I need the slice image to have transparent background and not have a color background because it's going on a rollover button with the background change. I don't want it to look like this on rollover:

My kids played around with photoshop 7.0.1 and now every time I open an photo in Photoshop the little grey slice image at the top left corner of any image appears.
I don't use Image Ready but in the days I did the same icon appeared (a number like 01 in one tiny grey box and next to it in another tiny grey box a square with what looks like an upside down W).
I cannot paste a pic with it on here as it will not copy but its annoying and I want to find out how to turn it off.

I could design and build this project in my sleep in Fireworks. I use Photoshop for retouching, not design.
Anyway, my client wants the files delivered in Photoshop, so I am working in PS CC.
I have sliced my image up and one part is an animated GIF and the rest should be static GIFs. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to assign animation vs static for slices. Everything is animated. How do I assign a slice to be static. In Fireworks you can choose GIF or Animated GIF. Simple.

I'm exporting a Photoshop design into Dreamweaver. I know HOW to slice, but I'm having a hard time finding the reason WHY to slice an image for importing into Dreamweaver. Why not just import the whole image, as a single, whole image?
I'm also having trouble finding the best way to slice an image. This is all very new to me. I looked at a webpage I created almost 5 years ago (my first exposure to web design) and I sliced the top of the page into 3 images - I had two prominent images on either side and the middle was the background. I then divided the middle bar (with the buttons) and made each of the buttons their own slice/image.
However, I just came across a website where they ultimately have their design sliced into just three images - a logo, buttons and a top layer image. This is the site I came across: URL.....
My slicing looks something like the opening image under the "Killing the Clutter" heading of this website, not the closing image (their goal) under the same heading.
Why are they singling out the logo? Should I be doing this with my design? Why are they including all buttons within one slice, instead of individual slices? Is this OK to do? For purposes of the rollover image, I thought they had to be separated. They're not saving the background. Should they be? Unless they're importing the background as one large image.
who might recommend not slicing an image and doing stuff with code instead, but I don't have the knowledge to go that route and I have to slice the image.

I am trying to get an image from a 3d program, saved as png to take into xara, the background is white, so I assumed once i take it into xara, that because it was saved as png that the white portion would be invisible.
It did not work, any other method for achieving the same result?

I have a jpg image that has a table of contents on it. I want to slice it horizontally by each topic (8 topics) so I can export the eight new images. Eventually I will be inserting the images into Word, and will hyperlink each topic slice to a page in the document. The Word document will then be converted to an eBook. So far I've only been able to slice the image by overlaying a rectangle on the TOC image and using; Combine shapes/subtract command or crop the original image 8 times. There must be a simpler way. Ideally I'd like to just cut the one image with 7 horizontal slices, so I can easily piece it back together in Word. I looked at the image slicing function but couldn't figure out how to have multiple names on one image. I have GD 7.

I want to add/manipulate a .gif image which is a 'loading' symbol to my website. I added it without any problem and it works fine. The thing I want and perhaps everyone wants that the 'loading' image should stop and then prompted to the website. Although it seems lame but it gives the website a cool effect and everyone thinks that its 'semi-flash'. So now I want it to stop after 2-3 seconds and then prompted to the rest of the website. Can I do it in Xara Web Designer 7 Premium ?
See the attachment.

First issue (see screen shot 1): As an example I created a simple b&w text image, which I subsequently saved to file as a GIF. At a later time I decide to open the saved file in order to edit the image. In editing all I want to do is remove the 2 dots over the letter "i" and re-save the image. Screen shot 1 shows the image unlocked on the page after re-opening the file. I cannot figure out how to edit the image at this point in order to remove the dots over the "i. I know I am overlooking a simple step, but I've tried everything. What is the secret to going back and cutting out just part of an image after the image has already been created.
Second issue (see screen shot 2): After many, many, many attempts I am still unable to create a simple GIF image with a totally transparent background so I can use the image on colored backgrounds. Using the same image example as above, I first went to Arrange>Create Bitmap Copy. That brings up the "Create bitmap options" window. For color depth I choose True color+Alpha. Then I hit the create button. The image I just created is selected on the page, and I then click the Export button to save it. After naming the file and clicking the Export button, I am taken to the GIF Export Bitmap Options window. At this point I have tried both transparency options. If I choose the option to make the background transparent, I end up with an image surrounded by white artifacts when the image is placed over a colored background (as shown in the top of screen shot 2). If I start over and choose instead to make a color transparent (in this case I chose to make white transparent since the image was created with a white background), I end up with the image surrounded by a block of white (the lower image in screen shot 2). What is the proper way to make transparent GIFs?

I decided to export my vector file to .ai format, because my printer company has so much trouble creating a good image from the PNG images I sent them. URL....
But, anyway, to the point: When I attempted to import the file back into Xara to see how it looked, it gave me the message Internal program error 2000.k.no.tl. The next message it gave me was that image contains fonts not recognized (paraphrasing), but the text is on a hidden layer. Then the next message was "spurious internal error has occurred." The file did not import.
I've only been working on this project since February, and have spent hundreds of hours fine-tuning this custom playing card project. I was hoping that by exporting to .ai that the printer would have a file that was ready to just place into his template and maybe, just maybe, the image would render properly without the banding issue. However, if I can't look at the .ai file with the same program that exported it, how can I tell what I'd be sending? Is it necessary to use the Illustrator program to look at files that Xara exports as .ai?
I feel like Sisyphus must have felt. This project boulder just keeps rolling back downhill.
Attached is the original .xar file, but of course I can't attach the .ai file because it's 1888kb. How to export it to .ai and if the image looks good (no staggered rectangles). Then I can export all my images as .ai and send to the printer.

Is there any way to set photo settings to a shape, have the shape apply as a filter when over an image.
Ie make a rectangle shape, set it to 50% transparent, and focus -50 contrast +50 brightness +20 then have these effects the photo below
I know I can do this with cloning the image and then create an interesting shape - but this is then fixed to that location over the image -
I want to be able to set these properties to the shape, and then move anywhere over the image
(basically like a piece of frosted glass, placed over a photo. - the glass effects what you see of the photo not just colour but also focus..., but you can move it around)

Xara Xtreme 4, windows XP SP3
Can I take an image and make it sewn to the background? I'm using Xara Xtreme 4 (not pro). The reason is that I want to have an image OVER which I place various objects. But I am routinely selecting the background by mistake and moving it. It would be nice to do two things:
1. (as I said) lock/sew/staple (what's the term?) an image to be the unmovable background.
2. This would obviously require me to size and crop the image first to be the page.
