View 9 RepliesI've just started with Xara P&GD6 and am trying to draw a symmetrical golden shield. I drew one half of the outline, cloned it, flipped the clone horizontally, carefully lined it up, and used Arrange|Combine shapes|Add shapes to make the shield shown in the attachment. No matter what I try, I can't fill it with colour.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I am unable to create text to follow a curved path. For example, I created a simple curved line using the shape editor tool. After selecting the completed line I select the main text tool (the other text tool, fit text to curve, is grayed out and not selectable). However, wherever I insert the cursor along the curved line I still end up with a straight line of text. After much experimentation I still cannot figure it out. I know I am leaving out a simple step.

Effectively what I want to achieve is the 'feather' effect that reduces the width but retain the overall shape and dimension without any distortions.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIve been looking in to grids and the golden section for design. Having had no formal graphic design training i find it very interesting.
I understand that the golden section is a ratio that is naturally aesthetically pleasing to the eye and that it can be found at 68% off a 100% length line. i.e: if you had a 100cm line, 68cms along would be the golden section and design based on this division should be on the way to looking balanced.
Now ive tried applying this to alot of web sites and none seem to adhere to it really. Ive been using this software on a free trial by a company called atrise. Its a resizable grid that floats on other windows, which constantly shows the golden section ratios. As i say not many websites use it as far as i can see.
Ive also been looking in to grid design which is closley tied to typography and, in fact, the design of a grid should be geverned, to some extent, by the size of the text.
What i want to know is, is there any way of combining the golden section rules and grid design. I cant put the two together for some reason. Im looking for someone with a good undrstanding of both to enlighten me!
Im trying to turn some clipart I have into a golden medal (silver, bronze, etc) type of image.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd suggest a tool for photographic composition that has as options the rule of thirds or the golden ratio. So you can do photo composition on the fly andcrop the image based on it.
Could be use as base Cutting tool, only the grid would be added with the Rule of Thirds and/or Golden Ratio and with an proportionallyadjustable rectangle (3/4, 4/3).
I enclose a mockup. [URL] ........
Circulates a script that generates a grid of thirds rule, but this is done based on a final picture, so there is no way to make composition.

And found it to be really interesting. I'm willing to change the sex of people using this formula (more specifically from male to female). And on the comments section of the video there is this comment saying:
"I used this mask on my face and it matched! This is how i did it: Download picture of mask. Open picture in adobe illustrator. Using pen tool draw lines on the mask. Than remove picture of mask and group all lines. Then put your picture and match it! You need about 5 minutes for this."
But I didn't get it really well... and the video didn't clear things up for me much neither. How I can practice this gender swapping technique and get the best results.
I have a collage I put together of several guitars, and I want to outline the guitars in a gold outline and change the background color to black, to make them stand out. I can't figure out how to do this. If it matters, I have Photoshop CS2 for Windows.

Using: Xara Photo & Graphic Design 6
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor 3.10 GHz
2.00GB (1.75 GB usable) RAM

I follow the tutorial in the Xara Help, but cannot get the results shown. I draw the circle, compose the text, and set it to the middle Select both circle and text Arrange/Fit Text to Curve....the text appears around the lower, right side of the cirle After all this I am unable to manipulate the text (It's a piece of cake to do this in Publisher 2010, but it has some minor problems in appearance)
(Using XDP7)
I endlessly find that I have text line objects which I later wish had been proper text areas (because I want to control the size of their bounding box, for example).
Is there any sensible way to convert a text line object into a text area object - it's a bore to do it by creating a new text object and then cutting and pasting the text, and it is seemingly a trivial thing for the software to do automatically.
Alternatively, is there an option (perhaps a hidden one) to have all text objects created as areas rather than lines?
Is it possible to change the alignment of text within a text area?
By default the text is located top left. Horizontal justification can make this top center or top right, but how about bottom left / center / right or even middle left / center / right?
I am nearly done with my site and realized I forgot to insert a scroll box like I put on my other site via HTML. I haven't found a "form" widget that will allow me to insert a scroll box that I can then input text into for readers to, well, scroll through!
I am using Xara Web Designer 6 - love it by the way, but would like to know how to insert a scroll box for my Testimonials page, as stated above. My browser is FFox.
I know is has to be something simple but I can't find it. Have perused the forum and didn't find precisely what I was looking for. I did read a couple of posts about iframes but I understood those to be utilized for opening other sites within your site.
I am struggling with creating and maintaining Tables in a DTP project for a client. I am using Photo & Graphic Design 6, though I'd upgrade to 7 if it would solve my Tables problems.
I have created a table of organized text in Word, and then copied it. I pasted it into Xara, choosing EMF as the only one that really looked like what I created. And now I cannot work with it as a table! Nor can I find anything that easily creates a table for me in Xara. Creating and formatting tables seems to be a very basic kind of feature necessary for DTP. Have I missed something?
I have gone too far into this project using Xara, so I must finish it using Xara and not another product now.
I need to be able to have it move from page to page inline, not as an image, but as a table, when I insert new client text before the table. I also need to resize it without resizing the text. Did I make a mistake using Xara for a DTP project? Or maybe I just missed seeing how to handle Tables properly?
I've tried searching, but haven't been able to find any straight-forward instructions for creating a simple animated gif.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy mindset doesn't work properly with shapes - more with lines and curves from point A to point B.
My normal usage of Xara is for banners and posters etc. not art or technical drawing. Anyway, I wanted to create a specific shape in Xara - it's not that I can't create it otherwise (it's very simple to create in CAD and export as PDF - import into Xara), it's that I can't create it in Xara - No matter what I try I cannot create this exact shape. I say exact specifically because I can close to fudge it, that's not the point. How would I go about creating this shape exactly.

The very first thing any CAD program can do is be able to create a series of lines, connected end to end, on the fly, by starting each line snapped to the end of the last line.
I cannot see how to do this very basic procedure. Perhaps I'm missing something (). I can see how you can make 2 lines separately, then move one to snap to the other, but this seems awfully crude for a program like Xara.
Here is a little video that I did some time ago for Xara-Users on how to create a heart in Xara's drawing products. Any of the products with 'designer' in the name will do. There are 3 different methods for drawing a heart in this tutorial. My personal favorite is the square and two circles technique, but to each his own.

Is there a way to make Xara only show the rollover state on mouseover, my buttons are just text so it's fairly obvious that the normal state is still showing beneath the rollover.
