View 5 RepliesIve been looking in to grids and the golden section for design. Having had no formal graphic design training i find it very interesting.
I understand that the golden section is a ratio that is naturally aesthetically pleasing to the eye and that it can be found at 68% off a 100% length line. i.e: if you had a 100cm line, 68cms along would be the golden section and design based on this division should be on the way to looking balanced.
Now ive tried applying this to alot of web sites and none seem to adhere to it really. Ive been using this software on a free trial by a company called atrise. Its a resizable grid that floats on other windows, which constantly shows the golden section ratios. As i say not many websites use it as far as i can see.
Ive also been looking in to grid design which is closley tied to typography and, in fact, the design of a grid should be geverned, to some extent, by the size of the text.
What i want to know is, is there any way of combining the golden section rules and grid design. I cant put the two together for some reason. Im looking for someone with a good undrstanding of both to enlighten me!
I'm looking to basically do what this video shows:

I just want to create a section from the point cloud, but the point cloud won't allow me to select it as an object in the 'Generate 2D/3D section' dialogue as it's not a solid/surface.
On an unrelated note, I find snapping to the point cloud impossible - is there an option in OSNAP that I'm missing? I've tried this with attached PCGs and RCP point clouds, no difference.
Is it possible to project an elevation drawn in CAD onto a curved wall in Revit?
The pattern of the cladding is very complicated and varies in both directions (curves) so it was easier to draw in in CAD, but I would like to project it on my curved wall in Revit, co that I could calculate the cladding areas accurately.
I placed walls at 12'0" elevation as they wereconflicting with walls below (overlap). I can't see them in plan view - In 3D iso view they are visible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedACA 2011. I would like to copy the "standard" wall style add a surface hatch and display that in an elevation (exterior) view. I have played around with this and due to many different places to edit the materials.
I have the elevations created. When I go back into the construct and edit the wall style do I have to re-create the elevations to see the hatch? Or I think I just have something set incorrectly in the style.
How come i cant see the changes to the 2d section after adding objects to the model. I have refreshed the section and have also change to a different 2d style, however if i create a new section, i am able to see the changes on this new section but not on the old one. Is there any switch to this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAttached is a pdf showing the issue I'm having with the way elevations labels appear on the outside edges of cross sections.
Issue #1:
I added the dimension to show that the bottom of the cross section is actually at 97.5 but is labeled as 98
Issue #2:
I would prefer the bottom of the cross section to be at an even elevation (98 not 97.5)
Can I use AEC Dimension in a Section/Elevation View in ACA? So, when an Wall height changes, the AEC will change too after refresh the section/elevation.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created the super elevation to my road as you can see on the attached picture, but I can't see the super elevation on my section view.
See attached.
Elevations existing ground gives in the band not the correct value, I putted everything in meters but it still doesn t match with the label that gives the correct elevation, same problem with the offset distance in the band.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs I continue my learning of AutoCad on the PC after having been a Mac CAD (non-AutoCad) user for 15+ years, another question has cropped up. My boss wants the circular "heads" of the elevation and sectional callouts to be smaller on the finished drawings. How can I control (or override) the default size of these? Or do I need to override on a case by case basis? I've searched these and other forums and what I am getting a sense of is that AutoCad controls those sizes pretty tightly so they remain annotative and AutoCad sets them at the size it thinks they should be and changing that size is not a simple process.

1) How do I keep a section line from showing up in two different elevations:....have a section line in east elev.....it shows up in same spot in west elev.....but the view is the east elev....only want to see section line in east elev?
2) While looking at my west elevation, I can see things in the east elev, which is 100' apart.....how do I keep from seeing(and selecting!) things in the east elev while looking at the west elev?
What is the best way to add a floor level to a space where it does not interfere with how the building looks in section and elevation.
Everytime I add a floor and go to the section the walls are above the floor.
breaking wall section views ? ie. using the section view tool works very well for a BIM wall type, but how can we cut the section so we don't need to have the view show the entire height, etc of the wall. especially when fitting in representative sections of twenty different wall types/situations on a single sheet ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI received a Revit file from a client. What may have been purged from the file. When I try to cut a section, I am presented with the choice of a Building Section or a Detail Section. The Wall Section is not available.
How do I get access to the wall sections? These are available as families which could be reinstalled.
I know I can probably overdraft this in 2-D; but is there a way to clean this up?I'd like to stop the inside finish surface of the roof element, inside the building (horizontal pine boards).I tried the similar trick like a wall base extension; didn't seem to work. (?)I'd like to have the rafter to top-plate seat cut out of the rafter also.

I am trying to annotate a floor plan to show the location/orientation of section, elevation and detail drawings. The labels must also indicate the appropriate drawing cross reference. (basically a circle with a arrow, text inside circle showing drawing cross reference). My question is - is there an automated way/library to insert such labels or do I have to create each of them from individual elements and make a block?

-changing osnapz variable
-latest civil 3d service pack
A few weeks ago I did not have this problem but once my computer was switched to the company's global server and c3d was reinstalled the problem appeared. Furthermore (post switchover), when a colleage of mine prepared a simple test drawing with just a line and a point, he was able to snap to that line without the point changing elevation. When he sent that drawing to me and I tried snapping the point to the object, the same problem occured with the point taking the elevation of the line object. I suspect it is a system variable issue
i have some existing drainage pipe and structures in a base plan that i need to change the invert (which is the easy part) and the top elevation to the existing top elevation that does not meet the minimum presect in civil 3d 2012 is there a way to change these min. to match my exisitng elevation for example i have a catch basin invert is 15.45 top is 17.56 with a 18" rcp the cover will be less than 12" and i need to change this.
