I've just started with Xara P&GD6 and am trying to draw a symmetrical golden shield. I drew one half of the outline, cloned it, flipped the clone horizontally, carefully lined it up, and used Arrange|Combine shapes|Add shapes to make the shield shown in the attachment. No matter what I try, I can't fill it with colour.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Xara Xtreme it was very easy to draw multiline polygons (closed or open), because the line tool used a single click to add a new segment to the already-drawn segments. Now, using Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 7 (which supposedly is the successor to Xtreme) the tool for drawing lines works completely differently and does NOT automatically join line segments to each other.

When I use Photo and Graphic Designer 9, I can use my digitizer pen to select tools and menu items, but when I try to use it to draw ing the freehand tool, the pencil icon appears on the screen but no lines appear !
All the other apps I have, such as Inkscape work fine. I have pressure sensivity enabled.
Drawing with the mouse works fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat Im looking for is a way to have features of the crop tool--resizable selection and variable outline (shield) opacity--BUT to create a selection out of the area to be retained from the crop without actually cropping.
The Marquee tool gives me the desired resize functions and the ability to make a selection (and thus a mask or channel) but doesnt give me the shield found in the crop tool.
Is there some way to have a Marquee and a Crop shield?
Well, I bought Xara Designer Pro 7 the other day, and I'm trying to get used to it. One thing it's doing that really bugs me is that when I draw a circle or an oval in freehand, the circle fills in with solid color!

What I have so far: I am aware of the "line" option. BUT it paints the stroke OUTSIDE of the rectangle and extends its size. This is NOT what I would like to have.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to draw a perfectly vertical or horizontal line in Xara (Designer Pro 6) without manually lining it up with the grid? Sometimes I just need an instant horizontal or vertical line and I find I have to turn on the grid, zoom right in and meticulously place the pen tool so that the line is a perfect vertical (90 degrees) or horizontal (180 degrees) without slant or lean. Surely there�s a quicker and more reliable method?

Currently if I draw a line, make it transparent, the next line as default the same color and width, but does not inherit the transparency. That means it is not possible or just at me
I assume there's some button combination I'm missing? All I know is I can connect a series of freehand lines no problem, but the straight line tool is not consistent operation with the freehand tool.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIve been looking in to grids and the golden section for design. Having had no formal graphic design training i find it very interesting.
I understand that the golden section is a ratio that is naturally aesthetically pleasing to the eye and that it can be found at 68% off a 100% length line. i.e: if you had a 100cm line, 68cms along would be the golden section and design based on this division should be on the way to looking balanced.
Now ive tried applying this to alot of web sites and none seem to adhere to it really. Ive been using this software on a free trial by a company called atrise. Its a resizable grid that floats on other windows, which constantly shows the golden section ratios. As i say not many websites use it as far as i can see.
Ive also been looking in to grid design which is closley tied to typography and, in fact, the design of a grid should be geverned, to some extent, by the size of the text.
What i want to know is, is there any way of combining the golden section rules and grid design. I cant put the two together for some reason. Im looking for someone with a good undrstanding of both to enlighten me!

And found it to be really interesting. I'm willing to change the sex of people using this formula (more specifically from male to female). And on the comments section of the video there is this comment saying:
"I used this mask on my face and it matched! This is how i did it: Download picture of mask. Open picture in adobe illustrator. Using pen tool draw lines on the mask. Than remove picture of mask and group all lines. Then put your picture and match it! You need about 5 minutes for this."
But I didn't get it really well... and the video didn't clear things up for me much neither. How I can practice this gender swapping technique and get the best results.
I have a collage I put together of several guitars, and I want to outline the guitars in a gold outline and change the background color to black, to make them stand out. I can't figure out how to do this. If it matters, I have Photoshop CS2 for Windows.
