VideoStudio :: Create MPEG2 File Before Creating Disk
Aug 20, 2012
How to create an MPEG2 file before creating the disk, I just tried to do this and although I'm using 1080/50i footage in 16:9, the only options it gives is below.
I am now trying to render using the optimiser in custom mode which gives me the settings I need, i.e. higher data rate and 16:9, but still cant adjust the audio type etc.
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(MPEG-2), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
Is there a better way of creating the MPEG2 file.

I'm struggling to create a 1440 x 1080 mpeg 2 video file with a variable data rate.
The original HD footage is 1440 x 1080 but I can't find this option when I try to create a video file from my project. I am sure that I had many more options when rendering a video file in X2.
If I try using Create Video File/Same as Project Settings I can only get a 720 x 576 file.
If I try using Create Video File/Same as First Video Clip it looks like it's doing the job but I think I'm getting a file with a fixed data rate of 25,000 kbps which is too much for playback on my Western Digital TV gizmo (whereas a variable data rate of 25,000 kbps would play okay).
If I try Create Video File/Custom I can only get what I want by switching from mpeg2 to MPEG Transport-Stream Files (whatever they may be) but when I try playback on my Western Digital TV player I get the message "no audio channel" although the image is very good.
So how can I get a Video File the same as my original footage but with a variable data rate?

I've just completed my first project and when I attempt to create a video file for hard disk output I'm unsure what option I should select from the drop down box that gives me the highest quality without re-rendering the video.
My AVCHD 50p original files are according to the file properties in VSP -
PAL HDMV
H.264 Video
24bits, 1920/1080, 16.9
50.000 frames/sec
Variable bit rate (max.26000 kbps)
Dolby Digital Audio
48000 Hz, 5.1 channels 384 kbps
So it looks like I need to select AVCHD 1920x1080 50p however in the properties for that file creation, the video bitrate is max 20000 kbps (my video 24.7) and audio is only 2.0 (my audio 5.1).
I really would like to retain the 5.1 audio and my higher video bitrate.
Also when I view the project properties the video is shown as 1024 x 576.
PAL double (50 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 1024 x 576, 50 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 bits, 5.1 Channels

Using VideoStudio X3. I import a MPEG2 file with res 720x480. Problem is the actual size of the video is 640x480 and the rest is two black bars on the sides. This is the way the source produces the files and I have no control over that. I want to export the project in 640x480, but no matter what I do I end up with keeping the black bars and distorting the image. Tried using the crop effect with no success.
The only workaround I have found is using another program - Magix or Pinnacle - to import the file and save it. In the preview window both Pinnacle and Magix display just the actual video (640x480), although the source file is 720x480. Corel for some reason keeps the black bars.
So how do I do the same using VideoStudio? I hate using 2 separate programs, my PC is too slow anyway and importing and converting long video files takes about a day.

Downloaded and installed the latest VS X3 trial version 13.6.2.42. Direct X is installed on the PC.
There is a problem when I try to play in VS X3 any MPEG2 file created with the earlier version of VS 7SE. The video playback is too fast and I hear only an intermittent high pitch noise. There is no problem playing the same file with the Windows Media Player.
I can play without problem .avi file captured from a DV camcorder. The VS X3 sample files play fine as well.

I would like to know if the "Creating Disk" step in the new VS x4 includes a better burn program than Factory Pro 2010 or Movie Factory 7SE. In Corel website, I didn't find anything about this issue among the features list.

I am trying to create a Blu-ray disk image in X4, but that option is grayed out. The video is 1440x1080 - shot on a Sony camera.
It will let me create the folders and will offer to burn a disc (but I don't have a blu-ray writer).
I am looking to create an ISO for two reasons:
1. To burn a disk from the image later when I do get a burner; and
2. To play through my WD Live (it plays ISOs)
I prefer the ISO to just the folders because it is is in just one neat file.

I have a new computer with Windows 7. I just loaded VS x2 with all the patches and extra content. I can create projects fine but when I try to "share" and create a disk nothing happens. I clock on the "create disk" button and a small square grey box appears next to the button but nothing else happends.
I have the most current Windows 7 drivers & updates and drivers for my disk drive. It worked fine in Windows XP.

Tonight I created my first DVD disk (ie authored a DVD) using X4 which I purchased last year.It seemed to take a much longer time to complete especially the creation of the title (menu?) than what I am used to using VS10.
Is this normal?
Is this a known 'problem' with X4?
What are others using to author a DVD?
Should I use VS10 to 'create disk'?
BTW I authored using the same characteristics as I used when I created my DVD file (create video file) so I don't think that it re-rendered.Also I am creating a 'standard definition' DVD not high def.

I am now getting a unspecified error when I try to create a disc. It tells me to:send the file C:documents and settingsxxxlocal settings empvstudio_14.0.1.3_20101220_083832.DMP to tech support. Trouble is there is no technical support unless I have a paid subscription. I cannot read the file because windows xp will not recognize it. I see nowhere on here that I can attach the named file.

I am trying to use Video Studio Pro X2 to create a DVD on my new Windows 7 PC. I have produced the project file (95 minutes) and am now ready to burn the disk. I have used the software before on my old PC (Windows XP) with no problems. From the "Share" menu I selected Create Disk and DVD.
I am trying to amend the Project Settings in order that the project file (lasting 95 minutes) fits nicely on a 4.7Gb Disk. I have set-up a Disk Template (which should hopefully produce a file about the right size) and want to select that template for my project. The problem I am having is that when I select Create Disk, the Project Settings button is not displayed, so I cannot select the template I have set-up. The Project Settings button should sit just to the right of the Settings and Options button on the bottom left of the screen, just under the main panel (according to page 146 in the manual), but on my screen (see image attached) all I can see is the Settings and Options button, and then a half-obscurred "Next" button (which should sit on the right of the page, but on my page it is on the left, partly hidden by the Settings and Options button). There is also no "Close" or "Change Display aspect ratio" buttons visible too, which are shown in the manual, but don't appear on my screen.
This is the first time I have used VS Pro X2 on my new Windows 7 PC - it worked fine on my old XP machine and I have never had this problem before. I am now using Windows 7 (64 bit version). I have tried doing a "Repair" to Pro X2 using Control Panel, but this has made no difference...I am still getting this corrupted page without the very button I need to change template. Any way I can create a file that is about the right size to fit on a 4.7Gb blank Disk.

I would like to use Corel DVD Factory to "Create Video Disk". I have created my mpg (Movie Clip) vidoe file and have placed it in a "c:video" directory tree.
How can I user Corel DVD Factory to Create Disk and drag/drop my file to that application?
When I "Select Photos and Videos" it brings up the Library but it doesn't show what I want and I'm not sure how to navigate tothe .mpg file I created so that I can drag/drop to the Media Tray.

Using X5 pro, a project comprising an introduction and 6 clips was created, with menu. Each clip has its own sound (voice and music). The rendering config included 2 pass conversion and normalise sound checked, for creation of a disk image on an HDD folder. The preview worked fine - vision and sound OK. Because there were multiple disks to be made, the image creation also worked fine, as did the burn disk from iso.
But when the resulting disk was played back after burning, the first clip on it had no sound. Imagery fine, just no sound. It wasn't an isolated case. A repeat try - with particular care to check this aspect, ie sound on the clip, was OK during preview - got the same result in the final disk.

I want to encode a video in MPEG2-HD with 1920x1080 and 24 fps (full pictures) @ 35000kbps VBR. Before i bought VS X4 i was using VS 8. There it was kind of easy to create that but in VS X4 this option is missing. I only have the choice between the PAL-DVD and NTSC-DVD Codecs. In VS 8 there was additionally MPEG and MPEG2.
Where have them gone? Or is there any other way to solve this problem? Do i have to install any additional codecs, which i had installed on my old computer where VS8 was running?

I finished my HD project in VS X3. It consist of 1920x1080 clips, titles, music, transitions. It was compiled as AVCHD NTFS 1920x1080. I got a 8 min 13 sec file as just over 1Gb in size. It was payed well in the computer.
Then I tried to get a hybrid DVD by using DF7SE. I choose DVD=>AVCHD, add simple menu and burned a disk. When I tried to play on TV screen by using blue-ray player I found that only menu screen exists, but no my video yet.
I repeated this after number of re-compilations. Even I re-install DF7SE. But result was the same. Then I put into my hybrid disk this mpg file and couple similar 1920x1080 AVCHD files from my prvious projects. Also I slightly modified my last project file, compiled under different name and put into the same disk.
In a burned disk I can see a menu of all four files. But on TV screen I can watch only two files from my older projects.
I couldn't find any differences in older and newer projects.

I'm using the free trial version of Videostudio X5 and have 3 video files I am trying to burn to a BD-R disk. The files are H.264 and when I preview it before burning, the menu I created works fine. One of the three files is large, over 9gb. When I burn the disk, the large video file is not burning correctly. When I go into that file from the menu, it just loops back to the first menu item. I tried burning just the large file to a BD-R and it worked fine. The total project size is around 17 gb so I'm under the 25 gb limit. I think the next thing I'll try is breaking the large video file into two files. I'd like to buy the software if I can get past this glitch.

local library with transferring their betacam based collection into digital video files.
The set up is:
Sony J3 video tape player ( a beautiful expensive machine that plays multi beta formats SX, Digi & Standerd betacam tape)
They had this set up through a switcher which in turn is connected to a TV monitor, aVHS machine and a couple of DVD recorders. Till I came along and suggested to remove one of the DVD recorders and hook that up to an external analogue to digi video converter hooked up to a PC ( now running trial version of Corel).
I set this up for them using components they already have. Their set up was so that patrons can view their audio visual collection and I'm setting them on the path of digitising their entire collection.
Basically, when I'm capturing PAL DVD standard video files the set-up and digital converter are spitting out squared pixels...so I cannot capture in the 16:9 anamorphic. This is easily fixed of course by dropping the capture to the overlay video track and selecting fit to screen. Ideally I would like to spend some money re-jigging the set-up so I capture in proper 16:9 anamorphic (and through Firewire) and avoid the extra step. We are also then producing MP4's with the view of making them into low res viewing only lets call them proxy files (with BITC to boot (Burnt in time code))
Why oh why is it so hard to custom select a known small frame size (16:9). Picking mp4 HD is NOT an option because I'm working from SD stock. Why can't I pick something like 640x360? It would make life so much easier.

I'm creating a DVD with just one MPEG2 feature length movie. I've selected the movie and done all the technical burn settings.
What I want is for the DVD to begin with a screen that has the options to 'Play Movie' which plays the whole thing or 'Chapters' which then goes to a chapters menu. Obviously they have to be able to get back to the option to play the whole movie.
I've separated the movie into the chapters by doing Add/Edit Chapter and clicked Next.
Am I right that Add Title Menu creates the first screen, and the Add Chapters Menu then creates the Chapters Menu? How do you have the Play Movie option - or is that just achieved by playing the first chapter (ie does it carry on with the whole movie?) With each chapter, does it proceed to play the whole of the rest of the movie after that chapter?
Also, the first chapter has a black screen thumbnail. How can I change the look (but not the actual starting point) of that chapter?
What does 'close the disc' mean? Does closing it give better copyright protection on the movie being taken off the DVD?
Finally, how do I save all these chapters and settings so I can just a burn the DVD quickly next time without creating chapters etc? (I am creating a Disk file, but can I save it as a Project?).

I recently tried to convert a 76 minute movie in mpeg 4 to mpeg 2 using the batch convert function. I first went into options and set the bit rate to 6100 kbps and the audio to Dolby 2 ch. stereo, with the bit rate set to constant. After the conversion had taken place, I found the results were excellent, except that only 38 minutes were converted. I tried it again, but still only 38 minutes and then it it finishes. Why won't it convert the full 76 minutes? The destination folder is on my "D" drive which is 1 TB, so there is lots of room.

I just want to warn that the SP2 patch of VS Pro X3 is incompatible with rendering and playback of mpeg-2 files. Your mpeg-2 files will finish rendering with SP2, but the rendered file will have audio distortions. Corel has a patch to repair it (only send to someone who calls Corel & complain about mpeg-2 render problems), but the patch causes a hiccup in the preview playback of the mpeg-2 clip just after the rendering is finished. The result only plays smooth after pause and starting of the playback from beginning again.

I upgraded from VS 12 into VS Pro X5 Ultimate a while ago and now I have some issues in editing some old footage taken with Sony H9 camera. This camera makes 640*480 30 frames/s Mpeg-1 video files.
After editing the movie, I would like to export it into 640*480 30 frames/s Mpeg-2 file as I used to be able to do with VS 12 (in the old Win-XP machine, current one is Win-7 64-bit). Now however, the VS X5 does not give me the option in 'Create Video File' to set 'User-defined' frame size.
It only lists under MPEG-files -> Options: standard 720 x 576 (yes I am on PAL region) and 25 frames/s. Why is this? The only encoder shown is 'Ulead MPEG.Now Encoder'. Maybe I had some other encoder available in the Win-XP machine?
I have been searching for Win-7 MPEG-2 encoder, but no luck.
How to get user-defined frame-size and rates under MPEG-2 encoder in VS PRO X5 ???

I'm using Corel Videostudio Pro X5 and have been filmimg in ACVHD.MTS format this year for the first time on motorsport events, I've edited all my 2013 footage and all is looking great.and now i want to save the footage into a file on my PC to upload into Sony DVD Architect to make a quality DVD production.
I have done this routine with my SD footage for several years and had no issues at all and created some great DVDs but now i'm using HD footage i'm getting lost with all the video formats that are available.
Basically which is the best format to save my video file onto my PC before i upload it into Sony DVD Architect? I tried the first option HDV which looked great and a reasonable file size but then it started to flicker and freeze during play back on my PC.
Also, even though i've been filming in HD i still only want to make a standard DVD because i share my work with friends who do not have Bluray players, will this be an issue since i have filmed in HD all year? All i after after really is the best quality footage i can produce for my DVD.

So, I have created many bluray video files which I store in my hard drive using the Corel pro "create a videofile feature" and they have worked pretty good, but I have found that burning the same bluray video onto a disc using Corel DVD factory has a superior picture quality, specially when you look at strong colors like red, they don't smear and have a rock solid look to it, I have also found that when the camera pans this problem shows its ugly face even more when creating a video file to the hard drive, but not in the burning disc process. I always choose two pass encode and the highest quality setting when burning a bluray disc.
Question, Is there a way to choose "two pass encode" in the Corel pro program or a way to change settings so that I get rid of the problem, or Can I use the Corel dvd factory in a way that I don't have to burn a disc, but just create a video file?

I created a 4 minute video project in VS Pro X3. Source of video clips were from a Sony HDR-CX550V camcorder. I added some titles to a few video clips and 3 titles on a "Graphic - Color" background. When creating a video file (under SHARE) and choosing Blu-ray ----> NTSC MPEG2 (1920 x 1080), I found the following: Video clips are sharp, no problem, but the titles have black lines at irregular intervals, to the point that the letters cannot be read. What may be the cause and how can I eliminate this problem.

Using X5 to create a video file from a project file in the timeline.
After the file completes rendering, the project preferences default is set to play the rendered file. But I find that when the playing commences after rendering, the sound has an echo effect that isn't part of the original files. Like the original sound is reflecting off walls, and you get the same sound just spaced apart by a small time period. I've tracked this to what appears to be X5 playing both the rendered file and the project file at the same time. If I turn the project preferences item "play after render" off, off course nothing happens after rendering completes. And separately playing the rendered file, the sound is normal.
Is there a way to stop this echo effect? Ideally, just play the rendered file only. But failing that, change the preferences default. However, there does not seem to be any way to change the project preferences default for this item.
