VideoStudio :: X4 Multiple Instance / Copy From One Project To Another
Nov 8, 2011
Let's say I have a some footage in one project with all the effects, fade-ins/outs etc I want and I want to use the very same thing in another project. How can I get only this one part from project A to B.
Open a second VS don't work out of the box. It just goes to my already open window, if I try to open again. I don't want to convert is as a Video first - if I ever want to make changes this might make it more complicated - depending on the situation.
I have finished a family project (mainly images with titles) for my granddaughter and burned it to DVD. I included quite a few photos of her ancestors and titled them all. I am extremely happy with the result. How I need to do the same for my grandson. This one will include all the photos I have from his birth to his latest 14th Birthday. I would like to copy the section on Ancestors from my granddaughter's DVD to this new one without having to add all the old photos again and add titles to each.
Would it be possible to load the original VSP file and delete all the other content and then add new content around it? Is there an easier and more "professional" way to do this?
I'm working on a project that pulls together many short clips from many much longer video files e.g. there might be less than a minute pulled from a 60 minute file then another then another etc. I found that my computer (which is reasonably beefy) was struggling to cope with the workload so I split the project into separate project files i.e. Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. My thinking was that once I had done all the editing I could cut and paste all the clips into a single new project file before rendering the entire thing. But I can't work out how to do it! Sure, I can copy and past individual clips or even a sequence of clips but on pasting they lose all the editing I've done! I just end up with a uniform bunch of unedited clips!
I guess the alternative is to render each project file (1, 2 and 3) separately then pull the rendered videos together into Project 4. I can then render Project 4 to give me my final 'movie'. But surely that means as I've rendered everything twice I'm suffering a quality loss?
So the question is: is there any way of copying edited video clips from one project file into another project file AND retaining all the edits?
I was wondering if there is a way to copy tracks (video, overlay, audio) from an old project into a new project. I have tried copy them and paste them but that is not possible.
An other solution could be to make a video file of the "old project" and import that on the video track in the new project.
In the past using Pinnacle copy tracks from other projects and paste them in new projects was a possibility.
I have a main camera A, which also has the main sound on the primary track, running all the time.I have secondary cameras B, C, etc, which have alternate views, but not main sound, maybe only local pickup. They turn on and off all the time - its just a bunch of short clips of alternate angles or views. The alternate views could also be from stills.
I want to keep the main timeline from A running along the primary track, keep the sound going, but pickup/cut-in the video overlays from the alternate cameras (B, C) and maybe (optionally) mix-in their audio on top, like if someone asked a question from the audience, but mostly it will be zoom-in's of slides and things.
I sorta want to be able to bring everything into the project so I can watch and select the trim and cut-in points, move things around slightly, get the timing just right. Turn tracks on and off so I can see the isolated selections, drag them up and down the timeline, exchange clips, etc. I don't really want to separate the sound on the primary, because it needs to be kept in sync all the way through.
how to do these basic editing operations (using X3 or X4?)
Some of you might also have encountered the nasty issue of CorelDraw (CorelDrw.exe) to open a new instance of CorelDraw for every CDR file being double-clicked for opening. After twiddling around and searching the web, I finally found out that CorelDraw.exe is case-sensitive for DDE commands. As such, using the DDE argument 'Open("%1")' won't do anything. The solution for CorelDraw X4 (CorelDrw.exe) is:
Sometimes when I drag a new symbol instance to my artboard and resize it, the instance looses it alignement with the pixel grid.
This happens despite the fact that...
I checked the box for pixel grid alignement when I created the documentthe symbol option is set for align to pixel gridthe original shape in the symbol is aligned to pixel grindthe original shape has the align to pixel grid check box in the transform panel checked So why when I resize the symbol instance does it break the pixel grid alignmnet and result in a blurred 1px stroke?
When I double-click an image file name in Windows Explorer a new instance of PSP7 is opened for each image. What I need is to open multiple images in one instance of PSP when I double-click the image name.
I just re-installed windows and all the fine (PITA!) trimmings. Now, when I open a file (any type) for Inventor thru windows explorer it opens a NEW instance of Inventor everytime! This is a HUGE system hog, waste of time ect ect.
How can I correct this to just open in the instance that is already there?
I have a keyboard shortcut for Copy (see directly below). This command doesn't copy multiple. But if I type "Copy" at the comment prompt (AutoCAD 2013) the copy multiple is the default. Copymode is already set to "0".
I've built a project up with several smaller project file components. It's an easier way to create a video than editing one big project.
Opening the overall project and running it on screen is not a problem. However, when I try to create a smart package of the composite project, I get a consistent error message rejecting the process because of the existence of the component vsp's.
Is there a way to avoid the error and create a smart package from a project file that has smaller component project files?
I'm using AutoCAD 2013 that came with Building Design Suite (Revit) and the copy command terminates after making the first copy, instead of continuing to make multiple copies until I terminate the command. Is there a switch to control this? A sysvar?
I recently upgraded to Civil 3D 2011 from C3D2010. I have used the same ACAD.PGP file for years that includes the shortcut C for the COPY command. Up until C3D2011 this would always allow me to copy an entity multiple times, (the default when COPYMODE is set to 0).
I am running C3D2011 64bit on WIN 7 64bit OS. It happens with other commands too that use a dialog box normally, i.e. INSERT - it only brings up the command line version of it.
I am having a problem with memory. I am running Windows XP with 4GB ram. when i start laying out in paper space, i copy the window in one page or copy multiple pages, every time i copy a page of window my memory builds up & up & up with each one until it gets to over 2 GB & the it tell me that if i continue with this next process CAD will crash because i have maxed out the virtual memory. This is usually not a problem when i am doing smaller one off drawings with a few pages of windows but when i am doing a bigger project with 20+ pages or windows i run out of memory.
I gave the latest file to my business partner & he does not have this problem at all. He can open up many windows & as many pages as Cad will allow. His memory always fluctuates around the same 2GB. He is running Windows 7 with 4 GB ram.
I would like to copy a sheet from one project to another. Nothing changes from one to the other. Much like copying a view, I would like to copy a sheet. Is this possible and how?
I want to use some portions of a clip that I have modifyed to another new project. I tried with copy/past, but they are not transfered to the new project.
how to copy and paste a bin from one project file into another. I don't want to import using the Media Browser because it imports a bunch of reference files that are already in the project file I'm pasting into.
Is it possible by importing a drafting view or copying 2D details, to not duplicate the detail components families ? I tried many ways, but I always get my families duplicated.
Copying 'Gypsum' will always duplicate with 'Gypsum1', even if they are exacly the same original family.
What is the proper way to copy a project to a new folder and the projects not be linked in any way to each other. In other words I want to have a completely independent project that I can make minor changes to without it affecting the original project in any way because no matter what copy method or pack-n-go I have tried, the link is still there from the new project to the original. How do i break that link.

I have tried to copy a premiere pro cc project to an exernal location three times and each time the operation has failed. The first time adobe told me it couldn't locate two files and erased all of the files that had been copied and the copy folder. The second time it did the same thing. The third time it told me it couldn't locate yet another file but didn't erase it just stopped running the operation and left the copy folder half completed. All of the files it is claiming to not be able to locate are linked fine inside of the timeline and it exports fine.
I am working on a feature length film which has 48 sequences with subclips and rough cuts created in Prelude. Now I want to start bringing this footage into Premiere for editing, but I am wondering is there benefits or drawbacks to creating a Premiere project for each sequence then merging them all together in one master project file after finished working on each sequence?
I'm trying to determine which way would be the easiest to keep things organized and not so overwhelming.
My project crashed. I tried reopening it, but from then I've been getting the following error messages. While restarting my system or AE usually works, this time the project wouldn't reopen no matter how I approached this.
Steps I've taken so far:
-Restarting my computer. -Restarting After Effects -Importing the .aep file into AfterEffects -Opening the file on a different computer. -Trashing preferences and reopening the Project in AfterEffects. -Opening one of my 5 at a 15 minute interval generated Auto-save files.
All result in the same error.
see attached images to see the error I'm getting.
The final message can't be clicked away and when I click the exit button at the top right of the application the application crashes and prompts me with a default windows error screen.

When using the Associate Project to Current Drawing or Associate Project to Multiple Drawings command(s) where does this association data get stored? When using the Multiple Drawings option I do not see the save time/date being modified on the individual DWG's.
I also do not note any file being modified under the shortcut working folder which would contain associated drawing names. How does C3D "know" what project a file is associated with?
Moved Videostudio X4 from a Win 7 machine to a new Win 8 PC.
Again it seems, audio plays fine when playing a clip from the preview window but not when playing on the timeline. (I had a similar problem with X10 and reported it in an older thread.)
Am searching now for more patches (and yes, I'm aware X6 is now the current version) but nothing obvious at the moment. Have found the SP 1/2/3 downloads on Corel's pages, but as it already upgraded to SP3 just after install, I'm guessing SP 1 and 2 are already covered..
In the past I've used a Panasonic SDR-S7 video camera which produces MPEG files with no problem.
I now have a Panasonic Lumix still camera which also takes AVCHD video. The individual files play perfectly in VS12, but as soon as I try to play the project to preview it, the picture keeps freezing. I thought this could be due to the new video's being HD but I don't think the individual files could be played either.
I have been doing this project in X5 and was putting a still picture at the end. When I review the project it stops about a second or so from the end. I thought it was the song, so I took that out.
I changed the picture, did the same thing. I lengthen the time on the picture, it will place and stop about the same time from the end. Doesn't matter how long the picture is playing. If I take the picture out, the video just before it plays fine. I put a picture back in, and it does the same thing? I thought the project time may be set someplace? Doesn't seem to matter because I change the timing on the picture at the end. Stops the same place?
Certainly couldn't open an X3 in X4. If I wanted to edit/burn my X4 in the "faster" X5, why should I essentially start from scratch to take advantage of X5?
Project would be SAVED as an X5 project file, of course.
