Photoshop :: Tips And Tricks For Backlighting

Aug 27, 2006

Before everyone recommends search. I just thought I would start a thread that gives specific insight and opinions from others on how to do these things. We all know painting with light, lens flares etc.. But there are many other tricks some have pointed and I would basically like people to expose those and just chime in on how they would achieve some of these effects and keep it in one thread. I scavanaged around on a few other theads on started early about mixtape style covers, but this question wasn't really answered.

I don't care for Mixtapes, but I think that the artists behind them do a very good job of catching the eye and do a great job of mixing simple effects to make a a scne come to life.

VideoStudio :: How To Disable Cursor Tips In Pro 3

Jan 2, 2013

Did you notice that when trying to grab a node on the audio line (especially near the end of the clip) the graphic tip that pops up saying "Delete the control by dragging outside the clip" ACTUALLY PREVENTS ONE FROM GRABBING THE DARN NODE TO DO ANYTHING WITH IT ! (Just shouting at my own computer here).

Is it my computer putting these annoying popup tips on the screen or is there a way in VS to turn them off.

Photoshop :: CS6 Shortcuts Not Sticky

Jun 27, 2013

CS6, OSX10.6.8, MacPro 8 core

CS6 fails to remember a keyboard shortcut after shutting down PS. Upon the next launch, the keyboard shortcut is not assigned anymore. When I assign a keyboard shortcut: Opt F3 to a script in File>Automate>Scripts>script_xxx the shortcut works fine until I shut down PS. The next time I launch CS6 the shortcut does not work. Going into the keyboard shortcut menu I find that under script_xxx there is no shortcut assigned. If I reassign the shortcut: Opt F3, it will work... until I shut down CS6. (rinse and repeat).

Photoshop :: How To Make CS6 Panels Sticky

Jun 5, 2012

In the previous versions of Photoshop I've used (CS3, CS5), when I opened multiple panels (e.g. History, Info, etc) they would all stay open for reference.  However with CS6 I've noticed that if I have, say, the History panel open, and also open, say, Info, then the History panel closes.

How can I change this behavior such that each panel I open will stay open and visible until I direct it otherwise?  It's frustrating to have to keep using Window->History (or whatever) each time I need to see one or the other.

Photoshop :: How To Make Lab Sliders Sticky In CS4

Nov 17, 2011

Tech- MacMini 2011, Lion, CS4

I edit color in LAB mode. In CS3 I would use the eyedropper tool to select a neutral point and then a levels layer to adjust the color while I was watching the LAB sliders in the color panel. Quick and easy.

Now the problem. In CS4 the color panel changes to greyscale when the levels layer is highlighted. How do I make the LAB sliders sticky? If I edit the color with simply a levels adjustment (not layer) it still works the old way I am used to. I toggled the dynamic slider preference to no avail and I can't find anything else I can change.

AutoCad :: Sticky Lines When Using CO And M Commands - MAC

Jun 28, 2013

1. When I attempt to COPY or MOVE an object that has a line attached to it the line also moves with it. It seems as though AutoCAD is considering them as one unit instead of separate objects. This is especially frustrating when using lines to mark Datum placements.

2. Also, I notice that the above occurs when moving objects, but instead of moving a line with the selection it stretches it. I must have an option selected, but would like to change that.

Illustrator :: Keyboard Shortcuts Have Gone - All Sticky?

Aug 28, 2013

I love using keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator but since I've upgraded to CC Illustrator on both my computers acts as if the keys are covered in glue when trying to use keyboard shortcuts.

I'll hit the keyboard shortcut for the rectangle tool for instance...hit the keyboard again harder, nothing, strange I think and hit again harder, again and again and on the 8th or 10th time it suddenly works. This is repeated on most keyboard shortcuts on and off, not every time.

This is consistent and new since CC upgrade across both machines.

Lightroom :: Keywords Not Sticky Between Imports?

Dec 16, 2012

When importing images, the filename prefix, image number, directory, and other attributes are "sticky" between imports (they're remembered so you don't have to enter them again for the subsequent import), however the keywords aren't remembered.  I'd suggest they should, just as the other attributes are.  Wandering through the discussions, it appears the import dialog keyword field was sticky in 2009.  Did it change or is there an options setting somewhere I can't find that would toggle this behavior?

Photoshop :: Sticky Slices - Layers And Text With CS5

Jun 6, 2013

I run PS CS5 with Windows 7 on a Bootcamp Macbook.

About 40% of the time when I want to nudge slices, layers or text fields nothing will happen until I hit space (hand tool) and shift the canvas. It's as if moving it wakes Photoshop up and it re-renders the screen with the newly positioned element.

This gets quite tedious and like I say, strangely doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes I can shut the program down and it will go away when reopened and sometimes not. Other times, this bug won't happen for a day or two then rear its head again for no apparent reason.

Revit :: Make Spot Elevations Not Be Sticky?

Jul 12, 2013

Is there a way to make spot elevations not be sticky?

When I am annotating spot elevations in a site plan on a steep slope with retaining walls, the spot elevations keep snapping to points that I don't want them to. When I get close to a point I want to annotate, the spot will jump to another point that is close, such as the bottom of a retaining wall, and I want to annotate the grade at the top of wall.

Snap Off doesn't work.

Is there a setting buried in Revit that can be changed to control this? My guess it that it's built in and can't be changed...

Photoshop :: Sticky/shiny /gloopy Edge Effect

Oct 1, 2005

The image attached has a kind of gloopy effect around the edge of all the text. It's not uniform but is tailored to each curve/angle and it rotates around the edge rather than all pointing in the same direction.

I've tried creating brushes in PS & Illustrator that could follow the curves of the edge but they look neither random or pretty...

I've tried diplacing a halftone line pattern & masking out the bits not needed but it won't curve the same way...

I've tried drawing the paths individually & stroking them with different effects but that just looked plain ugly...

GIMP :: Way To Activate Sticky Edges While Resizing A Picture?

Dec 13, 2013

Ok, so in photoshop there is this thing that when i resize or move around an image it will "stick" to the edges of the canvas allowing for an easier alignment, but this doesn't seem to be the case with gimp, so my question is: is there a way to activate those "sticky edges" in gimp while resizing a picture?

VideoStudio :: Editing Different Formats

Should I try and work with two different formats in my time line or should I convert both files to the same format first, I'm using dv-avi files and MTS (AVCHD) files. Project will be going to a standard dvd. Both files are filmed in 16:9 .

VideoStudio :: Editing 3D Video In X5 (SP2)?

Mar 28, 2013

Can it actually be done? If I so much as drop 3D file onto the timeline and tag it as 3D (SBS L-R in my case), I get the "... lost 3D attributes..." message when I try to create a 3D file. I tried tagging a 2D file as 3D for S&Gs and got the same result. In case it matters, the files are in .avi format (and even rendering a 2D version of these makes a jumpy video, but I digress...).

VideoStudio :: Editing Very Slow In X3?

Oct 21, 2010

In X2, if I waited long enough once a video was loaded into memory, I could rewind/forward/clip to any point in the video on the timeline just about instantly. In X2, if I tried to forward/rewind/clip to a point in the timeline in the video without waiting, it would give me about 1 fps when moving the current point in the timeline, and it would also play the video at the same 1 fps--until I waited a while.

In X3, the video can play pretty smoothly just about right away, but no matter how long I wait, moving backwards in the timeline gives me about 1fps, and moving forward sometimes gives as much as 8fps--but it is never smooth. Was this behavior by design? It makes video editing a total nightmare--it takes forever to find cutpoints in the video. How screaming-fast of a machine must someone have to not get 1fps when moving backwards on the timeline in X3, and is there something I can change in settings that might offer a better framerate?

Should I re-install X2 so I can move in the timeline at a decent rate, then import it into X3 for the final output, or is there a better option?

VideoStudio :: Editing 1920x1080 In Pro X2?

What a good start after just installing X4. I tried to add my avi files for editing and every single one fails with the catastrophic failure message. If I double click any avi file, the windows media player plays it fine.

I have edited these avi files many times with x2 before. I tried opening mpg files and they were ok. So im guessing its to do with an avi decoder? - but if so why does the avi file play fine in windows media player?

VideoStudio :: Pro X3 - Video Editing

Nov 27, 2010

I'm new to video editing and am using video studio Pro X3, everytime I edit some video or want to use a clip. The trimmed video always flashes the first frame at the start and finish of the trimmed clip. Also when I add a subtitle or text in the time line, that first frame flashes by at the beginning and end of of the text. This is very annoying and doesn't look very good in the project. How can I remove this first frame and how do I prevent it in the first place??

Why is there such a lack of stuff for sports editing. No scoreboard overlays, no score lower thirds, no lineup graphics. I've looked everywhere on the internet and there's nothing. I've created some of my own stuff but I spend more time creating the graphics than I do actually putting together the video. It's very frustrating the lack of stuff for sports. There should be a sports graphic pack released.

Or better yet. I'd love to see something like this for windows based systems.

I can't believe there's nothing out there as a package to make it easier to put together a sports video and make it look a little more professional at home without spending $4000 for a Tricaster.

VideoStudio :: Sag / Lag On 1080P Editing?

Jul 21, 2013

I was working for a while with VideoStudio ProX5 and I'm trying the demo version of VideoStudio ProX6 and I've got some issue...

First, my video files are .MOV from my Nikon D3100. 1920X1080 24FPS H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding.

My computer: HP Laptop DV6 Intel Core i3 350M @ 2.27GHz. 8GB of memory. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470. On Win7 Family Premium 64bits.

So it's a car video, cars are at street speed or lower and you can clearly see the sag of the cars. I've try different output (.avi, .mp4, .mts etc... ) from custom to the one included in the program and still sag like crazy.

VideoStudio :: Pro X4 And Ripple Editing

Feb 15, 2012

My problem seems like it should have a simple answer yet I cannot find it anywhere and I even have the user manual printed out.

I have multiple tracks in my project and I want to insert something video at the front end (not the beginning but at the 30 sec mark of a 6 mon video) and have all contects of the other track move as well. I can make this happen when I am deleting "stuff" and everying will move to the left but when I go to insert things, I cannot get the other tracks to move to the right. I know this is a common occurence in video editing so this ability has to be in VS Pro 4 but for the life of me I cannot make it happen.

I know on the left side of track 1 there is down arrow that has an option to enable ripple editting and I do a select all tracks and enable ripple editing but when I try to do the insert, the rest of the track do not move.

VideoStudio :: X4 Editing Titles

I'm moving over from Pinnacle Studio 15, and so far I like what I'm seeing with VS. The preview pane is MUCH better for editing Hi Def video than what Pinnacle provides, so I may be a convert. But, in Pinnacle, it is easy to create a title, and change the background using stock photos, or your own photos for that matter. I'm having difficulty editing the titles in VS. Is there a way to change the background?

VideoStudio :: Best Format For Editing

Apr 24, 2013

My main camera saves AVHCD files at 29.975 fps, secondary camera saves mov files at 25 fps, and third camera saves mpeg-4 at 30 fps.

I often wonder if I should just convert all the source clips from all three to one single format for editing, as perhaps it would be easier to ensure the audio and video stays in sync, and it just seems the right way to work.

What would the optimum format be for me if I started doing this? HDV? Actually I want two answers - best compressed format, and best uncompressed format.
