VideoStudio :: Changing Audio Speed
Aug 27, 2013
I'm trying to get my audio synched up. Someone once told me that the best place for the camera is often the worst place for the microphone. And in my case it's true.
So- I am trying to use audio from a different source and the speeds are very slightly different. I have the beginnings synched perfectly. Toward the end I stomp my foot- it sounds like a door slam and is something I'm trying to use to synch the two because it's a loud sound short in time.
Doing it visually doesn't work because VideoStudio (version 2) doesn't preview the video properly. So I had the idea- don't mute the source audio so I have both playing. Then render an audio-only file and listen to hear how far apart the two stomps sound, and adjust the audio track's speed.
I've shortened it by 2 frames and 10 frames but it still sounds exactly the same. Is there a bug in the audio-shortening feature or am I missing something? I tried using Audacity to shorten the audio but that didn't work well either, because it rounds off, and 2/30th of a second over 30 min is a tiny fraction.

In Adobe Premiere, I am getting an echo when I change an audio clip's speed/duration. The change is from 100% to 103%. I've tried other values in the speed duration but all create an echo.

I have a video recording of an event with not so good audio, but also a separate high quality audio recording. The problem is that the audio recordign speed is not the perfect match to the video recording, and when I put them in overlap, audio runs about 2-3 seconds quicker than the video by the end; seems real bad.
the obvious solution is to adjust the speed of the audio to match the length of the video; sounds easy.
One small problem is that the audio recording and the video recording were not perfectly synced, so the audio has some superfluous part at the end, so all in all the situation is as below:
Video track length: 1:57:16
Audio track length 2:14:20 with a lot of wasted part at the end
Current length of the Desirable Audio track: 1:55:15; this is the part which should in fact finish at 1:57:16 to match the video.
Below is what I did:
1- Clipped the audio at 1:55:15, Let us call the first part of the audio (the desirable one) Audio A, and the remaining part, Audio B
2- Deleted Audio B from the audio track
3- Pressed shift and dragged Audio to match the length of the video hoping that it will speed the audio track perfectly to cover the 2 seconds gap
4- Played the audio clip to see if it worked; Result: weird. Instead of keeping the track contents as it is and only changing the speed, it somehow resurrected some contents from the Audio B. I thought I had deleted that . So now it plays the same length as the video, but with added audio contents at the end, so the problem remains where it was.
5- Pressed undo, to instead try the Speed / time-lapse dialog on Audio A. Right clicked audio A, clicked on Speed / Time-lapse and entered the time for which it should play directly.
6- played the audio clip to see if it worked; Result: same as 4.
7- Pressed undo again, and tried reducing the speed this time instead of entering the exact time manually. Even 99% stretched the video way beyond the length of the video (as I expected) but strangely enough the contents from the deleted Audio B are still appended at the end.
8- This time tried to shrink the stretched audio to the length of the video by using Shift+drag. And it works perfectly for the stretched clip, but that had the audio contents from Audio B anyway. So the result is exactly the same as 4 & 6
.
9- Trying to delete the unwanted audio bits at the end of Audio A from Audio B, and then stretching the Audio A to the right length actually reduces the Audio A further down, deleting some part of the wanted audio too :S ... thus just turning the problem upside down ..
I am using Corel videoStudio X5 Pro with Service pack 1.

I have recently upgraded my old VideoStudio 12.00 to VideoStudio Pro X4 and have only just started using the program again after a couple of years of absence so I am still on a learning curve.
Can I extract the audio from a video clip and if so how and how can I convert it, if necessary into an Audio Interchange File Format, so that I can export it to a program such as Audacity for removing background wind noise before importing the Audio back into the videoStudio project.
I have tried using all the audio filter functions in VS to remove the background noise, to no avail.

I recently purchased premier pro 6 after working with Inkscape and GIMP for awhile. I am trying to figure out some things that I used to be able to do in Inkscape. In Inkscape, you could change the thickness of a calligraphy stroke based on the speed that the cursor moved. It was called "thinning".

Changing the default of “design speed” appearing in the create alignment,I’m wondering how the design speed appearing in the “create alignment” dialogue box can be changed such that the second time the “create alignment” dialogue box is launched then the new value for the speed is displayed.

When I try to combine 2 videos to play over each other (i.e. one full screen one anchored in a corner) the overlay track plays at an accelerated rate with no sound, whereas the main video will play as normal. However if I switch them around the same problem arises, the overlay video plays fine the main accelerated with no sound.
If I play them separately they will both play fine. The video I am trying to anchor was recorded with a webcam and therefore may be the problem. If I need to give more details w/ specs etc.

I'm near completion of a year long video project. I inserted several HD video clips into my VS X4 time line which includes many other HD/SD and .jpg clips along with transitions, music, etc. For effect, I used the tool in VS to speed up two or three of these clips by about 300%. Without the effect, the scene doesn't work so I'd like to keep it this way.
I noticed that when playing the clip in the time line after the effect is added, it plays very jumpy and jerky. Without the effect it plays fine as do all the other clips in my project. I am guessing the effect puts a strain on the system but mostly, my system is fine. However, the hard drive may be the culprit and not able to get the data fast enough to provide a smooth video. Is that possible? My cpu (core 2 quad Q6600 clocked to 3.0 g), new video card, memory, and monitor (HD certified) are all new and well within spec.
My question: Do you think the stuttering video will also be present in the final burn of a Blu-Ray? Or is this just a function of the preview window?

Problems in selecting the DVD recording speed in VideoStudio pro X4? I prefer to use a fairly low rate, but the selection is greyed out in my Create DVD window and it seems to be set permanently on maximum. I've tried a program re-install but it hasn't worked at all.

Since quite some time I have been succesfully uploading FullHD (AVCHD 1920x1080 50i) movies on YT. Some weeks ago I got a strange playback problem with my last uploads: video's are played in (very smooth!) slow motion mode at some resolution settings. The same Divx video's on the contrary always playback OK In order to illustrate the YT playback speed problems I uploaded two times the same 10sec video. The first video has been rendered as a fullHD AVCHD video in VSX4 (never got problems in the past with similar video’s), the second is a fullHD DviX version of that same video (from another converter). The lower resolution settings in the AVCHD video slow down while the 720 and 1080 settings run OK [URL]

I am using a title that scrolls across the screen, by spelling out one letter at a time.
However, I feel the speed is a bit too fast, and I'd like to slow it down.
I try extending the length of the clip, but this doesn't seem very effective.
How can I slow down the speed of this title movement?

I have a video shot from inside a vehicle driving down a rural French road. I would like to increase the speed to 110% to 115% as the video progresses to match the music I will overlay it with.
I know how to increase the playback speed, but I can't seem to find if it's possible to do it gradually. Everything I try increases the speed all a once. Is this possible (gradually increase speed) with the Playback Speed settings, or do I need to make two clips of the same segment, 1 at regular speed and 1 at the final speed, and use a long transition between them?

I use X5 Pro. I have some projects with lots of video clips. When I load a project, the project itself loads fairly quickly (as indicated with the green progress bar), but the Icons in the Project area then begin loading ONLY for the page being displayed. This applies for both the storyboard and timeline view. This is very frustrating, especially on the storyboard view, because every time I scroll a page I have to wait for the icons to load. With a lot of pages, it takes a very long time to get everything loaded.
Is there a way to either speed up the loading process or have it load in the background so that I can leave the computer and come back later to find the icons all loaded, rather than having to sit there and scroll through one page at a time waiting for each page to load until all pages are loaded?

I have used many different video editing packages and really like videostudio. The high quality output and many features make it a solid product.
However, I am confused why there is no way to change the speed of an audio or video clip in smaller than 1% increments. 1% is a very large increment, even when dealing with a 3 minute clip. An exact sync is near-impossible. .1% would be a great deal better.
I see in the 'change speed' dialog that you can also choose the clip duration, down to 10ths of seconds. But when I do this it seems to 'snap' to the nearest percent.
Is there no way to change the speed in smaller increments than 1% or am I missing something?

I have recorded my bowling action (the English game of cricket, where you throw/bowl the ball the the batsmen). It was recorded side on to my run up. I wanted to measure my speed, so I thought, using 2 consecutive frames from movie maker, giving a time of 0.04 sec. Then using Pixlr(free photoshop), overlap the two frames, and measure the pixel distance the ball has traveled. Then I use the diameter of the ball (known) to measure how much distance each pixel is in real life. Then I calculate speed.
This should be accurate, with the only uncertainty coming from the pixel measurements. The results so far have me questioning if there are other factors I have missed, I got most of readings at 40mph, this is very slow, spinners bowl at this speed, I have been told I am faster, then I have one reading at 75mph. The fast one showed really good technique, so is why is that fast, but the slower ones shouldn't be that slow.

I have recently upgraded to a HiDef video camera and at first was recording at 1080i (interlaced) and now changed to record at 1080p (progressive).
I have noticed when viewing (on my PC) some of the clips I recorded that there are 'jagggies' along the edges of objects.
I have found that this is a result of 'interlace' and possibly panning too fast. My camera displays a warning "camera is panning too fast" if in fact I do pan too fast but this was not the case as when recording with panning I usually pan so slowly that I often have to increase playback speed during editing AND also the clips I viewed were on people walking in the same direct at the camera, hardly panning too fast. With that said I am thinking (and hoping) that it was a result of using 1080i (interlaced).
This begs the question - Can shutter speed have an effect. The reason for the question is that I have noticed that my new camera (seems to) automatically sets the shutter speed faster and leave the aperture wide when there is a lot of light (I can see that by changing to MANUAL mode and noting the aperture and shutter speed.
If this is the case then should try using a NEUTRAL DENSITY filter to force the camera to use a slower shutter speed? I used to have to do this with my old MiniDV camera to prevent overexposure in brightly lit scenes (the shutter speed never seemed to change without me manually doing so).

I don't know why Corel made this program without the ability to change the playback speed in project view. You can only change the speed on each clip. When you have 50 or more clips, this can take all day, when it could take a few seconds if you can do it in project mode.

Does a Sata hard disk drive of 5400rpm allows successful capture of video via Firewire. I checked the boxes which v10+ and Pro X3 but they do no state this.
I am contemplating purchasing a notebook which has a Sata HDD of 5400rpm and Intel Pentium Centrino Duo (dual core 1.83GHz) - the CPU should be fine I think but what about the HDD? I think that when I first started video editing (VS v 6 I think) that I only had a 5400rpm drive and had no problems but just wanted to be sure. Oh yes the notebook does have a firewire port.

I know how to change the playback speed of a video clip in my project, but is there a way to have it smoothly transition? For instance, can I have it go from 1x to 3x over a period of 2 seconds or must I jump directly from 1x to 3x (or manually break the files into dozens of super small chunks and manually increase each one... which will still not look smooth)?

I experimented with slow motion of a water fall video clip from Letchworth State Park of New York where we visited recently. The original clip is 1080p24fps. I used virtualdub, avisynth, mvtools method to change the video clip from 24fps to 96fps, and 144fps. This method smoothly builds additional frames between each of the 24fps appropriately and the method works great to create smooth slow motion that plays in VLC slowing the 96 and 144 clips fluidly slow. Inserting the three clips into VS works fine and play normally. Selecting the inserted 96fps clip, and slowing it by 25% plays jerky, and renders as 1080p24fps the same way. Same situation with the 144fps clip. I played with all the parameters: frame and % and I could not make VS X4 play the clips smoothly. I am hoping I don't understand how to use this new Time lapse/Speed feature. BTW, I also own Premiere Pro, and it does the slow down of these clips perfectly. You can see the three clips in VIMEO done with Premiere Pro: [URL]
EDIT: I just tried Microsoft Movie Maker that comes free from Microsoft, and it does the slow down correctly. I am thinking this is a problem with VS X4

I imported a number of Powerpoint slides into VideoStudio Pro X6 and am now recording voice audio for them. My problem is: I don't know how to stretch each slide's duration to match its audio. By default, all the slides came in with a 3 sec duration. I can increase each to a max of 6 sec, but that's not long enough for my audio.
I've dug around the internet and watched tutorials on Corel's site, but they don't work. Everything I've looked at (even page 60 in the User's Guide for X5) says that to change a photo's duration, double-click it and select "Speed/Time-Lapse" on the Edit screen.
When I double-click a photo, there isn't a "Speed/Time-Lapse" option on my Edit screen (see image). So how am I supposed to change the slide's duration?

I've been trying to get my Steinberg (Yamaha) ur-28m external USB audio interface/soundcard to work with After Effects CS6 for a week now. The problem is that everytime I change the audio input in the AE preferences to the Steinberg asio drivers AE freezes for a few seconds and then crashes. Same thing happens in Premiere btw.
I've tried everything possible:
- updated Steinberg drivers to newest version
- updated AE to latest version
- trashed preferences
- totally removed and installed master collection again
- formatted hd and Reinstalled windows 7 and installed Master collection again.
- tried all possibles buffer rates
Problem still there... I looked into the events log and it mentions ntdll.dll and makes afterfx.exe crash. Bottom line is I can't work with sound now, which is really frustrating. In other programs (non Adobe) these drivers are rock solid. Apparantly After effects (and in my case premiere also) doesn't like Steinberg. I saw this other thread about Steinberg in After Effects: [URL] Doesn't look like it's been solved.
Main specs of my pc:
Intel i7-2600
16GB ram Corsair
Nvidia gtx 560 ti
Gigabyte Z68P-DS3 motherboard
Seagate 1TB (7200rpm)
