Revit :: Conditional Statement To Insert Door Offset / Inconsistent Units
Jan 16, 2013
Is it possible to read the current wall thickness of a door's host and use that dimension in a conditional statement to locate the frame's setback?
If the wall is deeper than the frame I want the door flush with the wall, if the frame is deeper than the wall, I want the door centered.
I set up a Wall Width paramenter in my door family but I keep getting the "Inconsistent units" error message.

is there a way to make a if and conditional statement formula in a family with 3 tests?
For example,
Behind Furniture, Biscuit, Masonry Wall, Hard Ceiling are all yes/no parameters
if(and(Behind Furniture, Biscuit, Hard Ceiling), 0' 0 5/16", if(Behind Furniture, 0' 0 11/64", if(Biscuit, 0' 0 11/64", 0' 0 27/256", if(Masonry Wall, 0' 0 11/64", 0' 0 27/256"))))
what is wrond with my formula?
I am trying to change a dimension based on what yes/no parameters are checked. It keeps telling me that its "a bad if statement format". It works fine for the first teo dimension tests but when I add this last one I get the error. I need the 3rd dimension to check against 3 yes/no parameters all being = yes before moving on to the next check.

I created a block, that uses the Y coordinate of the block and returns it's location in a field.
I would like to be able to indicate weather the value is negative or positive. If Y coordinate is less then 0, then the field indicates "-" in front of the value. But if the Y coordinate is positive, I couldn't find a way to place "+"symbol in front.
Is there any way I could introduce a conditional statement saying: if Y>0 then add "+" in front?

I am creating a folding door model and would like to use a parameter called EXERIOR WALL OFFSET. I have used this parameter before but am having trouble getting it to work within my family. The only difference is that I created one frame/jamb instead of 4 seperate profiles. The question is, why can't i get the jamb to move within the wall using the exterior wall offset parameter? It seems to move the sash/panels just fine but the jamb is constrainted somehow.

How can the dimensions for the system family door be shown in the door schedule?
I tried to make a instance paramater, type parameter, both through shared parameter for the doors in the family file, but they are still not showing up.

ive recently started to work with DBLink and access 2013 to make take offs mainly. Today i made a small project to test some ideas and found an inconsistency between the material areas and the area of the element, a wall in this case, to which the material is apllied. I think they should be the same, or at least very close, but that´s not the case when i export to access. I've attached a image with a material takeoff schedule from revit and the correspondent query from access (element type name, element area, material name, material area, material volume, material area/element area). The revit one seems correct, but in access the material area values are very different. Initially i thought it would be due to units difference, like the material area were in sq cm and the element area in sq m, but the relationship between them isn´t 10, as you can see in the calculated value. Then i added the material volume to the schedule and query and the results on access are even more strange, i can´t even imagine where this values came from.
I´m using revit architecture 2012

I was wondering if there was a way to make conditional formulas with a parameter? So I want a parameter called system. On the pulldown to enter the field under properties.
I want there to be 3 choices (i.e. 1=Air, 2=Water, 3=Gas).
If the user tries to enter any value other than the 3 values specified (whether by typing or pulldown), a message comes up stating they cant do that. The names for the systems have been simplifed for this example but the spelling is critical to the external database. I have tried but but I keep getting the follwoing is not a valid family parameter: X. X because thats the first conditional value.

I am new to Revit and a long-time Autocad Architecture user. I was wondering how to create (or if one exists) a door with a sidelight. The door is a hollow-metal door and frame with a glass panel sidelight that will be hosted in a wall.
Not too sure if this is a curtainwall family or something else...

As Revit insert a door it cuts the wall starting at the flooring level upward door height but in real building the door openning starts from the top concrete
Can I tell revit to start cutting the wall bellow flooring (leaving the door wing to start from flooring) or how can i add this feature to door family...i would like to control the height of the cut below flooring (e.g be a parametric).

I am trying to add the typical category of "glazing" to a door schedule, but when I add a door with glass into my project, I cannot make this information show up on my schedule. I need typical information such as "!/4" Temp" and "1" Insul" under the category of glazing. I added the "Door: Glass" heading in the schedule, but nothing appears when I add a glass door into the project. I was able to easily do this in AutoCAD Architecture.

So I've created a door schedule and added all the parameters I needed. But to get the "room name" to list and be associated with the door tags I had to choose either if the doors were going to a room or from a room, so I chose to, however, some of the doors swing are leaving the room so instead of tagging them with the corridor we want them associated with the room. But I can't edit the column the room names are in. If I click on a cell it gives me a drop menu on the side of what I can choose for that cell and it doesn't have the listed room that I need. It does not let me just type in the cell is there a way to fix this?! The blue highlighted name shows my option of what I can list as the room name or I can leave it blank, it lets me click inside the cell as if I could just put text in it but it actually doesn't show anything that I type.

I do not understand door wrapping from the manual. What does that mean?
Also, door wrapping (ext) from ext = 102.5mm, what does this mean?
Also, door wrapping (int) from ext = 177.5mm, what does this mean?
Door panel width is about half of door width. Therefore I am confused what panel width mean since it should be roughly same as door width.

Is there a way to display the HW Group within the door tag? I'm working on a new door tag for our office, and they have requested that HW Group #s be displayed, so the door installer knows which hardware group to install.
I find type parameters (width, Mark, Manufacturer, Etc) but no Instance parameters (HW Group, door materials, etc)
Would I need to make a shared parameter for this?
I can schedule HW Groups, so shouldn't I be able to tag them as well?

Short of starting from scratch, is there a way to change the hinge side? Some restrooms have the hinge on the right side and others on the left. I'd like to be able to change this via a parameter. If I could figure out how, I'd add the param to the family. URL>...

Is there any way to delete or rename door parameters that show up once a door is loaded into a project but do not exist in the actual door family? I have made two shared parameters called "Frame Material" and "Door Material", and my schedules and tags are working properly with them... but when I select a door's properties there are two "Frame Material"s (one I did not create and cannot delete) and an extra "Finish" that I do not need now that I have my shared parameter.

I am currently running Revit Architecture 2011. I have interior elevations in my project, which include doors. The door swing lines show up solid in elevation. In fact there actually appear to be two of them. I want the elevation swing indication to be a center line style.
I have changed the swing elevation line type in object types to center (which is what I want).
I go to the elevations and there is no change in the swing indication line except that there still appear to be two lines (one on top of the other) where now one is center linetype and the other is solid. Seems like progress except that there is no actual visual difference.
There is only one symbolic line in the family. If I un-check the draw in foreground box the elevation line disapears entirely when reloaded into the project.
This is an OTB door. I can place it in a completely new template and it displays fine. So it I am thinking it is NOT the family. There must be some setting in the actual file itself controlling this and I am stumped.
