Photoshop :: Transparancy! I've Read But Nothing Works!
Sep 24, 2008
first of all thank you for taking your time to look at my problem...i've spent a day and a half looking for an answer but nothing works! I have a picture that i try to feather so that the edges won't show when i post it on a webpage but everytime i do it when i upload it,
it's not transparant! it's white! is there something im doing wrong? i tried saving it as a GIF and PNG but that still don't work...it works while im on PS but when i save it, it goes back to white feathering! am i making sense?
I followed the below directions untill I got to: Modify->. But under that menu, "transparent Color" doesn't exist.
This is Version 9 ot the program. Anyone have experience with this?
1.Open or create the image you wish to add transparency to. Now, use the Eye Dropper tool to select the color from your image which will be used for the transparency (do this by right clicking on the portion of your image where the particular color is located).
2. Now, press CRTL+A to select all and then choose Selections->Modify->Transparent Color and set it to Background color and Tolerance 0.
3. Now go to Color->Decrease Color Depth->256 Colors and use the settings below: 1)Optimized Median Cut 2)Nearest Color and click OK.
4. Next, go to Colors->Set Palette Transparency... see below and click ok (if you want to test the transparency, click the proof button).
I have a problem with getting transparant backgrounds to work. I know they can be saved with .gif and .png files, but sadly that does me no good. What I'm trying to do is make an image that I can use with Littek's Talisman V2 (basically a windows shell). Anyways, the only file types I have access to is .bmp .jpg and .jpeg. I know this can be done because they have examples with images with transparent backgrounds, but they are saved as .bmp. Anyway, when I try to look at them with photoshop and GIMP all I see is the image with a hot pink background. I've also notice that icons and .exe file images also have transparant backgrounds and when viewed show hot pink.
I want to take a picture, and highlight the subject, in this case a flower, and make the background transparent. The suggestions I have found always tell me to do something that doesn't work. Like create a new layer and then drag it below the first layer, which it will not do. The other has been to use the Magic Wand tool, highlight, and then hit the delete button. That doesn't work only puts another color in the BG.
The reason I am needing to do this, is that I cannot get the background in the picture to match the background on the page, in spite of putting in the exact same numbers!
I have a script that I am using but cannot figure out how to make the bottom reflection fade to transparancy. The image on the left is what comes out from the script & the image on the right shows how I want the reflection to fade into transparancy. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! P.S. I'm a Photoshop n00b so please try to be simple in the instructions. EDIT: I forgot to mention that the image needs to remain at it's original 60px × 224px, the fade to transparency cannot change the image size.
Oil Paint is suddenly crashing Photoshop CC, even though it worked fine a couple of days ago and works fine on Photoshop CS6.  Error: "The flter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturers website for the latest software."  I'm up to date on all of my software. Working on a Mac Pro, older model, but as I said, Oil Pain filter works fine on Photoshop CS6 and worked yesterday on Photoshop CC, but not today.
I have a PSD with the size of 344 MB. When I open it with Photoshop CS5, it take 1,38 GB from the RAM.When I do the same with Photoshop CS6, it take 5,26 GB from the RAM.Then CS6 works very slowly and I can forget to do anything with it. Â I have a notebook with this technical data: Â Intel Core i7 2Ghz8 GB Ram AMD Radeon HD 6850M 4GB1000 GB HDD...The settings for performance of both Photoshop are the same.
I had 3 updates through the so-called cloud. They were bridge CC, Photoshop CC and an extension mgr update to CS6. After installing the updates Photoshop CC no longer works. It boots up but all selections do nothing. Even closing PS cc won't work.Â
All of my photos are 8 bit, but when I open them I get a message at the bottom of the screen reading "exposure works in 32-bit only". When I save these photos as any file type (JPEG, PNG, ect) they seem to export as 32bits/channel. That is to say, that they appear very dark and saturated, exactly how they look in PS if I select the 32bits/channel mode option.I may be getting confused between the 32/64bit versions of PS (i'm using 64bit CS5 at the moment.) But i'm really puzzled as to how I can export my images looking the same as they were when I imported them.
I'm trying to understand how converting to different color profiles within Photoshop works. Â What I'm trying to understand is why, when I have a document saved in with an embedded color profile of "Adobe RGB (1998)", when I *convert* the color profile to "Adobe RGB (1998)" (the same profile) the colors change dramatically. If I am converting to the same color profile, shouldn't the colors remain the same, and not change?
Sometimes I'm reading a tutorial and they say I should use Alt+Backspace shortcut in order to fill the selection with foreground color. But everytime I try that on a selection a floating dropdown menu appears (options: Restore, Move, Size, Minimize...)
Okay, I just purchased a new computer, it's Windows 8, 64 bit ... anyhow, I noticed when I try to edit an image, using any tool, clone, erase, the image turns black (the whole thing) and then gets normal again ... I just downloaded CS5 I had on my other computer .... would the 32 bit 64 bit thing come in to play with what's happening here....? Â I noticed at the bottom it says 'exposure works in 32 bit only' ?
I'm using Vista 64-bit. I've purchased two different Photoshop CS4 Extendeds off of ebay and both have had this same problem. Makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I install photoshop, enter the serial number, all works fine. The next time I open up photoshop, it says that the serial number is no longer valid. I tried calling adobe the first time and they said that the number I had given them was invalid, yet it worked the first time. It's like I use it once and then the activation or whatever won't let me enter it again. I'm not sure what to do! Once you enter in a valid serial number,
In preferences, performance, I set "enable OpenGL Drawing". It listed my graphics card "Nvidia Corporation GEForce 7900 GTX/PCI/SSE2"
I tried the rotation and zooming features and they worked well.
As soon as I tried to apply a filter, such as 'filter gallery' or liquify, no preview image shows in the filter screen. It is just white. The controls work, showing I am zooming in, but no image"
I have talked with Apple. These files can be brought in to iphoto and then exported. This is not what I want to do. I want to open in Camera Raw. Is there a workaround with a converter for CS5.5? I see there is Camera Raw 8.1 available. From what I have read, it is only for CS6 or CC - forcing me to upgrade? Then, according to some posts, the Camera Raw update 8.1 is buggy and does not work as well as previous versions.
I really don't want to re-install, uninstall, flush cache, look for fixes, etc, etc. Is there a converter or plugin that works with CS5.5?
Everything will work fine for a while, then all tools will stop working and the only thing i can still use is the eraser. If i select another tool, it selects it on the toolbar, but its still just still the eraser. The only thing i can do is shut the program down and restart it. I have tried reinstalling and this makes no difference, same with restoring all defaults. It DOESNT do this in cs5, just the latest version. Do i need to just ditch the latest photoshop and go back to cs5?Â
Changing the UI Font size in Prefs>Interface>Text no longer works. It did work after I installed CS6 - I was able to change to the Medium setting, and change it back to Small. Now the actua text size stays at Small, even though it is set to medium. This afterafter I restart PSx64.  I have deleted CS6x64 prefs. Updated today - (says 13.0.1, though I believe the updater said it would update Photoshop to 13.0.1.1)  Windows Appearance and Personalization>Display is set to the default - Smaller. I wonder it may have to do with changing that size - I had tried setting that to Medium - 125%, but set it back to the default Smaller - 100%. Not sure when the PS UI text size stopped working.  I hope that my mentioning changing the Windows 7 Display from 100% to 125% and then back to 100% will give someone a clue.  resolution on my NEC PA301W is the default 2560 x 1600.  new Windows 7 x64 HP Z220 machine. 32GB RAM Video Card: AMD FirePro V4900 OpenCL Version: Driver Version: 8.911.3.1000
All of a sudden the Move Tool no longer works. When I try to move an layer on the screen with the Move Tool it moves slightly then jumps back to its original position. The only way I can move a layer at the moment is to use Free Transform, which is not ideal.
I'm having a problem where opening any previously saved photoshop document causes pen pressure to stop working. Upon opening any previously saved document, I get a little warning icon guy next to any parameter set to pen pressure control in the brush pane. Hovering over the warning icon gives me a tooltip that says "Control by pen pressure requires the use of a pressure sensitive tablet". Â If I open Photoshop and create a brand new document, everything works fine. But once I open any previously created file, pen pressure completely stops functioning until I restart Photoshop, even if I create a new document from that point. Â I'm using a Cintiq 21UX (driver version 6.3.4-3) with Photoshop CC (14.1.1) on a Windows 7 machine.
Is Photoshop CS5 available in Multiple Platfrom (for both PC and MAC) as my LR4 and PSE9? Â I usually order a CD but this time I downloaded the program and was forced to choose windows or MAC. So, the serial number only works for Windows and not on my MAC which I use for travel.
My setup is a ATI FirePro v4900 connected to two monitors: an Eizo CG276 and an old second monitor. I would like to get the Eizo to display 10-bit colors in PS CS6 under a 64-bit Windows 7.  After setting everything up, I am at a point where Lightroom 4.4 displays the notorious ramp.psd file (see below) without banding in the develop module, hence I assume 10-bit is working there. In Photoshop, however, I had no success so far to get 10-bit to work.  Here's what I've done so far:  I set everything up as described here [URL] ...........  Summed up, I did: 1) enable 10-bit mode in ATI driver and rebooted -> checked and this is still enabled after reboot 2) open PS CS6 and enable "advanced" drawing mode and 30-bit display in the "performance" options and rebooted -> checked and this is still enabled after reboot  I verified that the monitor runs in 10-bit mode using Monitor Asset Manager 2.6 [URL]. It states that Color bit depth is "10 bits per primary color", which is what I want.  Then I tried to open the ATI 10-bit test file ramp.psd [URL]. In Photoshop it shows banding. As I've read that Lightroom 4's develop module uses 10-bit, I opened the file there and it had no banding.  The only troubleshooting I could find for 10-bit colors in PS was this post [URL] ... however I do not have desaturation set in the color preferences of PS, hence it does not apply to my problem.
see this image[URL]...When I view this image in any browser the colors look great. But in any other program (Windows Photo Viewer, Picasa, & Photoshop) the colors are way way way off, and the picture displays very differently from program to program. Â In Photoshop the only thing that is wrong is the black channel which looks grey. Photoshop also gives an invalid ICC notification when opening this image. Is there anything I can do about it?
As soon as I installed photoshop cs6 Myriad Pro stopped working. This sucks because its my main font choice. The flyer I was working on was built with Myriad pro and now the text layers need to be redone. I see myriad arabic but this is a major inconvenience considering all of my files need to be reformated. Â I search my windows 7 font folder for meriad pro and it doesnt show up. I try to reinstall myriad pro and it says its already installed. I got the program "Font Expert" and it does show myriad pro is installed and ready to go. Illustrator CS3 does not let me use Myriad pro now either.
I'm unable to find a brush option for using a brush to change the density of an existing density to a preset density in the same way color fil is used to fill a tone. An example of the use would be...a shadow or reflection on a 255 white background; when the brush with the color or shade is used to paint over the background, it fills only the shadow/reflection in with the preset density. Thus allowing you to have the same exact color/density for all shadows/reflections. This is how the color fill or color setting in brushes works only that doesn't change density, only color/tone.
how to airbrush. I have been using it since. Copying layer adding noise and blur and then layer masking and painting with the brush tool. All of the sudden the last step no longer works. I paint and no layer shines through. I must have done somthing to a setting.
