Photoshop :: Completely Remove Background From Image / Keep It As JPEG?
Nov 14, 2013I already know how to remove backgrounds from images, and create a transparent background. However, I need to be able to use the resulting image in another program called Scratch. And as far as I know, it does not accept .tiff, .pgn, .psd or gifs.
How do I completely remove that background so that it doesn't show up white in other programs when I save it as a .jpeg?

Feb 10, 2009I am working in Photoshop Element 6 and am also having problems with removing my background. The photo is a picture of me with an off white color wall behind me. I read the post from January of someone having the same problem and I tried to follow each of those directions but have been unsuccessful. I am more familiar with Paint Shop Pro but can't for the life of me figure out how to cut my photo out of the picture.

Aug 13, 2011The plague has struck my X4. I have done absolutely nothing to the computer in over two years. I can't save a file as a JPEG to most folders using Save AS. It will save a file as a JPEG to the TEMP folder -- but the preview in which I can set compression does not show up. However, it still works well if I Export to Web.

I found a bunch of cropping tutorials on YouTube, but they used a lot of advanced (to me) terms and seemed focused on difficult situations.
I have 30-40 photos that are of wooden figures cut on a band saw. They do not have highly irregular edges like hair or fuzz.
I am hoping for a tool that can automatically follow the outline and then let me make any minor adjustments that may be needed.

Apr 24, 2013I got this workflow,
1) From LR export to PS
2) Do all essential editings.
3) Save. File become 'xyz.tiff' now. (I want to keep this as master copy)
4) Crop to 4r, Save a Jpeg copy as 'xyz 4r.jpg'
5) PS save it as a copy, but do not automatically open the Jpeg copy. The tiff remains opened. I have to manullay Open, browse to it, and open the Jpeg. The 'Open Recent' list also do not list 'xyz 4r.jpg'.
6) Do 4r sharpening for the 'xyz 4r.jpg', save it.
Basically the files I want to keep and worked on is like this: NEF -> xyz.tiff -> xyz 4r.jpg -> xyz sml.jpg(maybe)
Now, it there a way in step (5) to have PS save the JPEG copy, and automatically open it? I don't care if the Tiff copy remains opened or not, I am done with it.

May 28, 2013I got a new computer (Windows 7) at work this April and as of today, when I work on any of my JPEG images in PS CS5,suddenly it has defaulted its "Save As" to JPEG2000. How did this default change and how do I get it to default save as. JPEG again? There was nothing I noticed and no warning as to why this has changed, I didn't touch a thing!
(Last week, Adobe had to work with our IT manager to fix a problem that started occuring with my new Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 program. They had to log into my computer and change a registry thing to get it to work properly again...also something that changed without warning!!)

Jan 6, 2013I have a PSD file (16bits/prophoto RGB) with some layers. I combine the layers to ONE and change the bit depth to 8 bits.
Then I do one of two things:
(a) I save the file for the web in JPEG 90% high-quality and with sRGB ... filesize 340 602
(b) I change the color profile to sRGB and save the file as JPEG in the highest quality (10) ... filesize 174 549
I am at loss here. How on earth is it possible that the second file is almost half the size as the one saved for the web?What effect causes this? It is very easy to save for yhe web but as long as the JPEGs are that bigger it's no option.

Jul 3, 2012We have recently upgraded our lab where I work to CS6. Previously we were using Photoshop 7.0. The issue I have relates to an external piece of software that queues prints to a large format photographic printer. This software is, picky, about the JPEGS it receives.
The JPEG's saved out of CS6 do not process through this software. The JPEG's saved out of Photoshop 7.0 do. I can strip the 'APP markers' from the CS6 JPEG's using Irfanview and this resolves the issues with the CS6 files. This is not good workflow.
I have tried creating a blank Photoshop file in CS6 at the relevant dimensions and pasting the image data on to it then saving as a JPEG in CS6. This suffers the same problem. So I believe the issue is related to the extra data put in the JPEG headers from CS6.
I have as yet been unable to find a way to reduce / eliminate this extra data.
From what I can find on adobe.com they don't really offer any support? I am in Australia and there is, from what I can see, no one employed by adobe to provide support. $1200 worth of Photoshop and no support!!! Good work if you can get it .

Sep 10, 2013I am working on many files today and for some reason, even though they are JPG files, when I save them, the dialog box comes up and wants to save it as a PSD. It's wasting a TON of time because I have to change it to JPG even though the file is already. I tried the open as-JPG option on any of them and it gives me the error message of -"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file". I'm in CS6 because there were too many issues with Photoshop CC.

Apr 16, 2013When I first started using CS6 I would edit my photos and when I used "save as" to save my photos then open them in a different photo viewer they would have lost a lot of color and contrast. When I reopened them in CS6 they still had no color. This is all occured on my PC. I used to use PSE 7 (on my PC) and the "save as" function to save them and they turned out fine. I recently got an iMac and when saved on there the same way and reopened in a different viewer they'd have the correct color,
but when opened on my PC the color would be lost again. Also tried opening the images I saved on my PC in CS6 on the iMac and they still had no colo/contrast. So that would mean it's not a monitor calibration thing. I'm trying to figure out how to save my photos so they have the best quality they can have for printing and also the correct color for clients to view on their computers.
PS: I did use the "save for web" option on my PC and the photos have the correct color that way! But those aren't the proper size and stuff for printing. Also I'm very new to iMac and full photoshop so I'm not sure what sizes/pixels/color modes/etc are normal or what photos are supposed to be.

However, for some reason.... when I save it... no matter what I do (highest quality, no matte, etc), there is still a white background.
When I save it as a GIF, it kills the quality but has a transparent background...
