View 5 Replies View RelatedI am working on a .psd in Photoshop CC in which I used a selection to precisely remove a portion of a layer in a layer mask. The problem is that it is removing a percentage of the opacity in the non selected area. The brush has 100% Opacity, 100% Flow and is in Normal Mode. The layer has 100% Opacity, 100% Fill, and is in Normal Mode. I have tried restarting Photoshop and starting over from scratch. Here is an image of the issue.
My only other concern is that on Friday we had a power outage due to lightning and PS CC closed unexpectedly. Could my PS CC be corrupted? My computer has restarted since then.
I want use a layer mask to paint onto a selected portion of my picture. But the selected portion was obtained via a channel mask for highly detailed accuracy. I haven't been able to get the channel mask to work with the layer mask.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am making selections of models off of a white background. I use the quick select tool and refine to make a clean selection. I go in and use the clone tool to remove the "halo" that is still there to make a super clean selection with no light bleed on the model. I put a black layer underneath to make sure that I got all of the remnants. I save the selection and turn it into a channel. I apply the layer mask and everything looks good. I flatten the image and put it on a white background (this is the desired form of delivery for client) Image saved and closed. When reopened, I make a selection using the channel and there is a distinct halo effect still present. I have tried making the selection and going over it a couple times with the brush at 100% and it works a little bit, but not entirely. I have already spent a lot of time going through cloning things out so it looks good, delivering the images, then they are sent back because of the halo.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy subject line pretty much sums up what I want to ask.
The thing is I've learned how to do both of them, but every textbook exercise I've done regarding one I found out that I can pull off with the other too.
Are they simply two different mechanisms for doing the same thing?
We need to know how to make a retangle, bend the lines and fill with color (dancing ants). If this product cannot do it whst will? Can I get a reduced price since I purchaed Adobe element 10?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn PS CS5 Extended latest version. I select all, then go to Select|Modify, and all choices are grayed out other than border. This is an 8 bit RGB image. The layer is selected. I also tried flattening it. I also tried creating a new image, RGB 8 bit depth. Also 16 bit. Nothing works.
I double checked CS3 and this works in CS3, but not CS5.
When selecting an area I would like to modify/transform/reshape just that selection (the marching ants) without moving the underlying image. How do I do that?

Once I use a Clipping Mask on a layer is the entire document covered in a mask?
And/or is all the artwork from then on inside the mask?
I've read about how to add and how to remove art from a mask. I've read about how to make and release and lots of other things.
So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.
I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)
However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??
So, I have been trying to abate my problem in lots of different ways.
I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.
I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
I have a edu version of Adobe creative suite CS2. I tried to learn some text effects in online turtorial but I found that feather, modify, grow, similar, transform selection submenu are disabled in the select main menu. I would like to know why and how to make them enable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn older versions of Illustrator, I used to be able to make a selection of multiple objects and give them a stroke or other attribute. Now it says “Mixed Appearance” and I can't do anything to the selection. How do I modify a multi-selection if it says “Mixed Appearance?”
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?
the key functionality lost is the ability to use the previous layer mask for a new layer
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can do one or another, but both at the same time? It is annoying because a mask selection turns into layer selection when you select a second layer/folder.
View 2 Replies View Related(CS3)I have a raster layer that has some semi-transparent pixels.
I'd like to make the layer itself fully opaque, and move the contents of its alpha channel into a layer mask.
(If possible, merging the alpha channel with what I have already placed into the layer mask.)
Is there a difference between selecting your layer and clicking Add Layer Mask Icon versus having that layer selected, hold down ctrl and select Add Layer Mask Icon?
Also regarding working in Lightroom, if I modify a jpeg, select another image from filmstrip to work on and then go back to the first image for more work, are those actions degrading image even though I never physically save and close.
I am using PSE 11 and need a hint as to how to duplicate the picture layer and then add a layer mask. Still trying to figure this thing out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a layer mask. I want to make new layer via cut. Then, I want to go back to the layer, inverse the mask & create another layer. Basically, I'm creating the same picture, but making layers. Unfortunately, the marching ants line (from the selection) remains. So, I have a hair thin line of transparency. I have tried feathering, borders, expand selection, making the selection smaller.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've often been annoyed by the fact that that I need to go into the layer panel each time I need to switch between editing a layer and editing it's mask. Surely there must be a way to do this with a shortcut. I found a way to disable the layer mask in the shortcut menu, but this is not something I need to do that often. Switching between layer and layer mask, however, happens all the time - at least in my workflow.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't figure out how I can use a text or shape layer as a mask for the layer below. See the example attached and you will know what I mean. (I created the example with simply cutting out the text outline from the white box).
I need the text to be a mask and I need it to be editable as text. Don't know if this is possible, experimented with clipping masks but I cant make it work.
I`m trying to swich a image on a layer whit a layer mask. I whant to keep the layer mask but change the image. When I paste a copyed image it the laye it creates a hole new layer. How can I change a image but keep the layer mask?
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically exactly how layer masks behave, except I would like to be able to have full non-destructive editing control over the masking layer (e.g. have it as a smart object). The problem with layer masks is that (AFAIK) only destructive editing is possible.
What I'm after is effectively the same as what a 'luma matte' does in After Effects. Is this at all possible in PS?
I could have sworn that in previous versions of Photoshop, before version CS4, that if there was a link icon between the layer thumbnail and the layer mask on that same layer, if you move one or the other, they both move. In CS4, how do you move the layer pixels and the layer mask at the same time so that they stay lined up?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to copy a mask from one layer to a new layer in Elements 11. I can do this in CS3 by using alt and dragging to the new layer. It doesn't work in Elements 11. Is this feature unavailable in elements 11 or is there a different command? there doesn't seem to be much point in spending all that time making a complex layer amsk and then being unable to use it on another layer.
I have to give a tutorial on layer masks using both CS3 and elements at the Camera Club!
I need the same funcionality as in code below, but without using "command".
The main idea is alowed user to modify Existing Selection Set.

Can I move smart layer mask to the smart filters on the same layer as a mask?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen creating a selection in CS4 and then adding the selection as a mask I cannot seem to get around a black background surrounding the selected portion of the image by default.
In CS2 the background surrounding the selection/mask displays as a pattern of small gray and white squares, which I usually prefer for initial review of a selection as a mask. Yes, I can go the mask panel in CS4 and switch background views but none utilize the gray/white pattern as used by default in CS2.
Can this behavior be changed? I've tried manipulating preferences to no avail and cannot seem to locate any options to change the default display options.
When I make a selection on a photo with quick mask in photoshop CS3 and shift > Ctrl > I and delete the background, my image that i'm left with is like 50% opaque. I don't know why its doing this. I've even tried Ctrl > J and then deleting the background and its still opaque. So I am needing some help here because i need to figure out why the images i'm selecting with QM aren't coming out at 100% opacity. Thanks. Here's what it looks like when I delete the background after doing Shift > Ctrl > I
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am creating a selection set using ssget...
Then I copy that selection set multiple times in a loop. What I would like to do is then rotate (or otherwise modify) the last copied group of items. If I rotate "last" it will only accept the last drawn item, so only one item in the group of copied objects will rotate.
Here is the portion of simple code I am using right now (it's in a loop so all variables with 'Next' are changing each time):
(command "_.copy" SS1 "" SS1Base NextPT)
(command "_.Rotate" "l" "" NextPT NextAng)
This works fine with a single object, but I can't figure out how to call up the entire group of objects.
