Photoshop :: Image :: Take Off Noise, Pixel Dust, Blur
Sep 24, 2003
I'm newbie in graphics, so the problem is: I've got an image (495*500) of not perfect quality. I need to make it ~ twice bigger and take off this ****, that appears, when the image is larger - pixel dirt, dust, noise, blur, bad color and other crap .....

When I go under the Filter menu, I can only do a few of the options. Blur, Noise, Sharpen, Stylize, and other. I can't do Distort, Texture, or any other ones for some reason. I have tried closing it completely and opening up random projects where I know I've used the filter, and still nothing. I've tried everything outside of uninstalling it then re-installing it, and I really don't want to do that.
way to restore the factory defaults or...something?

I managed to remove the background, of an image,(A whit background) and put the image on top of a transparent layer. made a transparent image. When I place this image over a light color background, it looks fine, but when I place it over a dark color background, the edge of the image looks very rough and dirty, I think it's because some of the anti alias from the original image, how can I make it a clean image without going to delete pixel by pixel?

When you import a video that has image noise into Photoshop cs6 is there a way of removing it? Is it done in the same way as what you would do in removing noise from a photograph?

I can't remember how to take a picture and use a tool (such as the eliptical tool) - make a circle around my image and then blur the edges of the image with a transparent background.

I have some random curves (already created) and I want to blur them just from one side to have the same blur distance and effect one the whole curve.
To more precisely describe what I need, I need to create gradient with direction of normal for every "point". The best example I have found so far are borders in Civilization IV game. Here are two examples:
3.bp.blogspot.com/-40x9Kw5vrrA/TiHjTNwOuQI/AAAAAAAAADA/uw2NeAnsmOk/s1600/Civ4ScreenShot0008.JPG
apolyton.net/civ4/files/info-images/agade.png
As you can see, there is a solid curve, which gradually blends (i.e. alpha channel is lowered) till the gradient disappears. I have the solid curve and the question is, what would be the simplest way how to do this (the number of curves is around 100) gradient.

I've just upgraded to C&PGD from Xtreme v4. Adding a small amount of noise to background images seems to be becoming more popular these days. I've seem tutorials on YouTube for PS and this technique but couldn't find one for Xara.

Using Gimp 2.8 in Windows 7. I have a scanned image of a topological map. At areas where the contour lines get too close, squares appear in between the image (See attached photo). Is there a good way to remove these extra squares in the contour lines rather than tracing the lines manually?

When I convert all .jpeg images into .tiff format for printing (I did this in Photoshop). When I placed the images in Illustrator, I noticed that some of the images show too much noise... do you know why this is happening? It look fine in Photoshop, but not in Illustrator. Both files is in CMYK format as well...

I take photographs that need the top and bottom center point pulled in to straighten out for image distortion (looks like a bow tie when I'm done). I'm aware that it will interpolate if I expand the image so I have always contracted rather than pull the four corners out beyond the canvas edges. There is a noticeable blur or softening of the image that happens. Does anyone know of a way to cure or minimize this?

Does anyone know how to blur a portion of an image in gradient-like fashion to give the impression of an unfocussed lens? Can you do it with a transparent layer mask?

I want to blur just one edge of an image in my site header, so it fades into the white background rather than retaining a sharp edge. I could finally get the effect (using an alpha channel and Refine Edge) but couldn't get it to stick when saving.
I read that JPGs can't accommodate alpha channels but even a tif didn't work.
I tried different functions like Refine Edge, feather, etc - all to no avail. I was working in PSD.

I just got PSE CS6 and the blur too will NOT work ....blur filters work, but not BLUR in the tools panel I have tried: unintstall/reinstall, updating, using it no a picture straight after opening it, duplicate layers, selecting an area and then blurring....flattening an image, every single different setting in the the blur tools menu bar NOTHING works. And everything I find about blur is the new blur filters....

I took a photograph of my daughter lying on a white sheet against a black background, however there were a noticable fragments of dust in the background which has spoiled the photograph.
I would really appreciate it if someone could remove the dust for me, there isn't that much and it will only take a couple of minutes for an experienced Photoshop user.
I need to get this sent asap to a printers so they can print it onto canvas for me, for my daughters great grandmothers 90th birthday.

I'm working on a black and white picture that has a lot of dust specks and what looks like a faint waffle looking pattern on it.
I tried a tutorial called History Brush for Dust and Scratches by: down2earth2.
I've used it a few times before and it works great but on this particular occasion it isn't working so well.
Once I've completed the tutorial the picture looks ok but when I print it out the waffle pattern comes back and is tinted with a faint redish hue.
way to get rid of that waffle pattern.

Using the 64-bit extended CS6 version under Win 8/64. Am I not using the filter correctly, or is this a limitation regarding its use?
I duplicate a layer and apply the filter. I then add a white mask and invert it to get black. I change the layer blending mode to either darken or lighten, depending on the requirements at hand. I use the paint brush to remove the spotting and it works. However, if I add a new layer and then go back to the Dust and Scratches layer, the paint brush further modify the layer. I need to create a new layer and start all over again.
I am finding that if I convert the layer for smart filter use, I cannot use the paint brush. The layer needs to be rasterized, again.

i use imac i7,8GB,lion. I cannot remember how i learned to do a type of dust/spot remove for large areas. The heeling brush or stamp tool were not used in this technique.
It seems that the rectangular marque tool was used to select an area in the problem layer, a large background area, for example. The selection was then jumped to a new layer. Somehow one could use the arrow keys to move the selection a few pixels. At this point i cannot remember what to do.
I think that the move tool was employed and the arrow keys used to move the selection a few pixels such that the spots were covered by nearby, unspotted areas. Havent done this in years and can't make it work. I have thousands of old black & white photos, and some color, to repair and retouch.
