Photoshop :: For Video/television
Feb 1, 2006
I'm trying to find out what kind of base concerns and settings there should be when creating graphics for television (resolution, color, file type, etc.). Essentially, I want to learn the basics of broadcast graphic production; the do's, don'ts, and the never-ever should's. If this is too involded a question, perhaps someone could refer me to a book that goes into greater detail than that of a forum.

I have an folder with approx 500 photos that have been optimised in the Develop module (aspect ratio set at AS SHOT) and exported to photo lab for 2 x 3 prints. Now I need to use these same images for a slideshow and set an aspect ratio of 16 x 9 1920 x 1080 for viewing on HD Television. I do not want to change the AS SHOT aspect ratio of these images in the current folder. so first, this means I need to make a copy of this folder within Lightroom and second, change the aspect ratio to 16 x 9 for all images at the Quick develop module and complete in the slideshow module. The second part is no problem but how do you "copy" a folder of images in Lightroom OR alternatively can you make a virtual copy of a folder?

I have been enjoying the tutorials and forums for the last week, and decided to get my feet wet. I have been using photoshop for a couple of years, but rarely use advanced effects or blending. I have already picked up a lot from this site, some of the talent around is amazing. Just wondering if there are many users here who use photoshop for Television applications, as I use it in making TV advertisments all the time and would love to get some discussions going on how to use it effectively in this way. Anyone using it with after effects I would particuarly be interested in chatting with. I am also currently doing study in Advertising Design, so I have started using it with print as well, but Television is my focus.

I recently purchased Video Studio Pro X3 - and after going through the knowledge base and product read me, I have been unable to find an answer to the following problem I have:
PROBLEM:
I have a number of videos (HD 1080p) that I have recorded. Each video is on average 50 minutes in length - what I want to do it to be able to do is to slice this video into 10 x 5 minute videos (based on topics discussed in the video), (so essentially clip the video into these segments and edit each one) and then when producing the video file - actually create 10 separate video files (all with editing in place) instead of one single large file.
As far as I have been able to work out, I need to go through the whole file, clip relevant sections, edit them, and then save project. I then need to go trim the saved file 10 times, to extract each time the single 5 minute video I want to create. This is a fairly manual and time consuming process, hence my hope that I can create 10 files based on the clips I have made in the larger 50 minute file in one go.
as I have 30 videos to edit, so looking for ways to save time!

when I upload a video to You Tube, I get a warning message that my video and audio are out of synch. Once uploaded, the video plays just fine, looks great. But I don't know why I get the warning when I upload. Video clip and audio track are the same length.

Is it possible to import a digital video sequence into photoshop and convert it into individual frames, so that each frame can be manipulated individually (drawn into, coloured etc) and then reform the individual frames into a video file for export toAfter Effects, Premier Pro or Avid?

I have started a new video project with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 in Photoshop CS6with a pixel aspect ratio set to square.. In the project I add a video to the timeline. The source video was created in QuickTime and exported at a 1920 x 1080 resolution MOV file. I have check both the source clip at the canvas siye and have confirmed that both are 1920 x 1080. However, when I import the video it takes up less than the entire frame. It appears that the video is being scaled down so that there is some white space to the right and below the video clip. See the image below.
In the past I have been able to import 1920x1080 video to a 1920x1080 project without a problem. I have 4 or 5 examples that have worked well.

Someone asked how much video RAM does one need for Photoshop and I replied:
"You only need enough to display millions of colours on your monitor. For straight 2D work graphics apps like Photoshop don't need all that extra RAM you see on cards today as it's only needed for 3d stuff like gaming."
But then I see Adobe's Technote ID 331412 recommending that Photoshop should have more then 128mb RAM on the videocard and that has me wondering why??
Used to be you only needed 8mb RAM to drive a 20 inch screen at 24 bit colour. So what kinds of Photoshop tasks need more? And with Quad-Core processors and system RAM so cheap these days (compared to them olden days) what kind of 2D help can video card RAM offer that would make any real difference with 2D photo editing?

Some of you are beta testers or might be in the know, but I'm a bit concerned with the compatibility of CS4 with different video cards. Because of the new way that Photoshop will be working with the GPU, is it going to become video card specific? I'm running a Nvidia Quadro FX3700 in my workstation and I'd hate to find out, after purchasing and installation, that there is a problem. Have there been a specific video cards listed for CS4?
I'm sorry, but in the past, Adobe hasn't been the most responsive company. (it took them forever to fix Photoshop CS2, and I currently own CS3.3 Web Premium - so I am familiar with their nightmare installations that were never fixed) I'm thinking that the CS4 Design Premium looks pretty slick, but a I'm a bit leery of becoming a paying beta tester again.

I am a student in animation and media design. I have used photoshop in CS4 to animate in the past then I switched to creative cloud.
Another student thinks that I am getting it to render and its playback is just to fast for me to see but I have adjusted the settings and used different formats but it is all the same. What else could it be?

Using a 288MB quicktime file (1920x1080) shot with a Nikon D7000, all I did in PS was add two curves layers, one masked and the other not.
If I export (to the same file type) with "all frames" selected, the file balloons to 21GB and the rendering is lousy: jagged, as if most of the frames are dropped.
That doesn't happen, however, if I export a short range of frames (400 frames out of a total 2810). Rendering comes out fine and the file size seems to be comensurate with its portion of the original. When I try to export the whole video using the first and last frames of the video in the range dialogue, PS freezes up.
The original, unedited video, however, plays fine, it's just overexposed.
I'm running Win 7, 64bit, 16GB RAM, core i7 3.4GHz cpu, with an Nvidia GeForce GT 530.

I have several hours of video aerials shot with a JVC GY-HM750U camera. The camera creates a .MOV video file. Great looking stuff but I have some lens dirt showing up in everything. I upgraded from CS5 to CS6 because I saw a tutorial demonstrating how to use smart layers and the dust and scratches filter to get rid of the problem. Still working on the best settings for the filter to best take care of the problem.
But when I exported a test clip in an H.264 or QuickTime format, both rendered files only played part way through then the image froze but the progress bar in the player kept moving. The image changed abruptly to somewhere down the clip and then ended. I also edit all other video in FCP6. When I import the .MOV file into FCP it behaves the same.

I am trying to make some first steps with the video editing in Photoshop cs6 but I cant make past stage one....getting a file to open properly.
I shot some video on my Panasonic gf1. Its a .mov file. When I look at it in bridge, or open it in PS cs6 it only gives sounds but no image. I have updated Photoshop today.
So I guess I have some settings wrong. Maybe I had wrong settings in my camera. What to do? I can watch the video's with windows media player.

I'm editing a video that contains two shots in which the set had to have black gaff tape around the perimeter of the floor in order to container a pool of liquid in a kitchen (see attached image, yellow arrows added). For budget purposes the scene had to be shot this way instead of allowing the liquid to go wherever and damage the set.
My question is, what is the best/simplest/most effective way to eliminate the tape from the scene and create a new background in its place? Luckily, the shot is entirely static and the tape is not too thick/prominent, so I'm fairly confident it can be done and done well. Unfortunately, I don't have an image from the exact angle without the tape, although I could potentially get one if that would be easier than recreating it in PS. I'm a beginning to intermediate PS user and this is a little above my skill level.
I'm running CS4 on a MacBook Pro. The footage is ProRes 422 which I can export as still images (jpg, png, other) to work on individually in photoshop (assuming this is the best/smartest method). Also, as you can see a character is in the shot and moves some but not a lot. There is a fair bit of the background that will be entirely the same from frame to frame. How best can I automate as much of the process as possible?
