Running a recently installed (5-6 days ago) 2.8.4 version of gimp. When I go to open a photo for editing, the program opens an error message window that says:
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive \Device\Harddisk3\DR3
I have the option to cancel, try again or continue. All three options give me an "error sound" and the message window flashes at me. Only after I've forced gimp to close by right clicking the tab on the bottom tool bar...can I get the error window to go away. But it also has to be forced by the same method and not by using cancel or even the "X" in the upper right corner. I've used an older version of Gimp (on a different machine) for the last year; not to mention I used this version for a couple of days before this message started popping up. I work from/save all my photos to a flash drive, so I'm not exactly sure why the program keeps looking for disk.

From what I've read, the scratch disk in Photoshop is there so that if you become low on RAM, it will move data from the RAM to the allocated scratch disk...so why bother making that scratch disk the RAM when it'll just be going from the RAM...to the RAM?

I've purchased a Windows 7 PC with 16 MB RAM, 2 terabytes and a 250 GB SSD. I'm going to load Photoshop on the SSD and the OS on the hard drive. Where should the scratch disk go?

Is it possible to use a network drive as a scratch disk? I have very little space left on my only internal drive and don't want to have to purchase a drive just to connect to my PC for a couple projects.

I have an internal expresscard 16 GB flash drive and Photoshop doesn't see it. So I can't select it as a scratch disk. Is there a workaround to get PSCS3 to see this drive? or did I just waste my money?

I am working on a assembly where a cable wrapped around a drum is animated to rotate with the drum, and there is a longer cable coming off of the rotating cable wrap, this longer piece goes down to another cable on a roller assembly. I have edited the assembly to work without the actual cable drum and without the roller assembly ( I wasnt allowed to share those models ) There are now two cylinders in place of the cable drum, a Grounded center to hold everything in place, a Rotating center which is animated so the wrap can rotate.
My problem is when the part named "Drum to Roller" is a lofted cable with angled ends to meet the "Drum wire wrap" at one end and it meets the "Radius cable ends" at the other end. I need the "Drum to roller" to stay constrained to the "radius cable ends" as well as the "drum wire wrap" ... and after being constrained still animate.
I have set up the animation and you will see that the "Drum wire wrap" is animated to keep the end vertical , the animation is set up to look like the "drum wire wrap' is un-raveling cable and the "drum to roller" is to be what un ravels.
I need to find a way so that the "drum to roller" translates down and over , staying constrained to the "drum wire wrap".. You will see that so far it does not.
I have attached two links below they include the two halfs of my assembly, place all the files in the same folder so you wont have to search for them manually.

Photoshop keeps reading from the A disk drive whenever I perform any action. Selecting a tool, resizing the view, bringing up menus, almost any action, and my computer lags up for a second or two while it attempts to read from my floppy disk drive.

I have a Dell D630 Latitude which has a Core 2 Duo processor, 2 gigs of RAM, a SATA HDD @ 7200 rpm, running win xp pro with sp2. I have Dreamweaver CS3, Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3, and Flash CS3 installed on it. I run all these programs at same time and now my hdd is about to go. This is going to be the first one on this system but on my previous system, I had to replace my hdd 3 times before I just changed systems. But it seems, I'm still having the same problem on my new system. The old system was an IBM Lenovo T60p with a Core Duo processor, 2 gigs of RAM, a SATA HDD @ 7200 rpm, running win xp pro with sp2.

I have photoshop CS2 on my desktop computer (XP). The hard drive is partitioned and I have photoshop scratch disk on its own partition (10GB).
I have photoshop CS3 on my laptop (Vista Premium, 2GB ram). There is only one hard drive in the laptop. It is already partitioned into three - C drive: windows + programs, S drive: system files, X drive: recovery.
My question is do I keep my scratch drive on the C drive or can/should I partition an external hard drive (250GB) and put my photoshop scratch disk on there? The external drive is via USB.

After doing everything i can find to optimize my hardware/software for doing 3D animation in Ps Ext CS6. I still cannot render an animation to video using the Ray Traced Final setting. (Ray Traced Draft, no problem.) The last time I tried (after repairing disk permissions), at least Ps did not crash and give me the same old crash report (Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000007a0020000). This time I just got an error msg that my request could not be completed. (Progress?) Checking Activity Monitor, I could see that my available RAM, which was 13 GB when I started the render was now less than 1 GB (761 MB).
So, I have come to the conclusion that my 16 GB of RAM and 300 GB available for virtual memory on my HD is not enough for rendering the type of 3D animation I am trying to do. Would you agree? Also, I have read it is not good to use the same HD your program is installed on for a scratch disk, so I am considering getting an external solid state drive to use as a scratch disk.

Mac OS 10.8.2. PS6 will not launch unless the boot drive is set as the number one option for the scratch disk. Even if I choose another internal drive and set it as the number one option for PS6 it will not launch. My boot drive is only a 120GB SSD so I don't want to use it as the main scratch disk.

I recently upgraded to an SSD on my MBP, I bought a caddy and swapped out the optical drive for the original HDD internally. Now, I was hoping to move the scratch disk from the SSD to the original HDD, but the HDD doesn't even show up as an option in the Photoshop preferences. The drive is easily accessible anywhere else, and even accessible through the open/save/etc. menus within Photoshop, so OS X and Photoshop both know the drive is there, but Photoshop just isn't showing it as an option within the Scratch Disk options setting.

Windows 7, had everything working fine. Added SSD and installed system from scratch on SSD. Old drive is now my second drive.
Trying to put the scratch disk on the second (old) drive to reduce wear on the SSD. But every time I do, I get the disk error message and it erases all my settings (so annoying!)
I figure it's a permissions thing since I've had to deal with that already to some degree, but I don't know how to fix it since I don't know where adobe is trying to save the scratch file.

Every single time I power up CS5 I get an error :"The monitor profile "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. No other application complain about this.
The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 226CW..If I go .. Control Panels Color Management..I can see that there is a profile "Samsung Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM (default) file SM226CWicm..It is the ONLY profile listed.
I deleted the profile.. I am then prompted to chose a new profile .....from the list shown there is the "Samsung Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM"..I select that. Then next time I start CS..same error message again.

Just purchased a new monitor for the recording studio...an LG L227WTG FLATRON LCD. Went w/ the glossy screen technology (or whatever LG dubs it) in order to have mo better detail & clarity when working on the graphics side of the equation...Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
But, speaking of Photoshop...when I open it now...I get a warning message that reads: The Monitor Profile "LG 227W" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software.
What does this mean (aside from the obvious)?
This will be my first high quality graphic experience in PC land; &...since I'm also designing not only my own CD jackets & insert booklets (on the CMYK end)...I'm designing my own web pages (on the RGB end). I need to get this right, so my presentation colors don't look silly.

can you turn that pop-up message "The monitor profile "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears to be defective. retrun your monitor calibration software" on and off.
I may have checked the "don't show this message again" ? If so...can I re-enable the the profile warning message and how ? Or...does this pop-up only occur if there is a monitor profile issue when Photoshop starts ?

So I just purchased and installed my first copy of an Adobe Suite and now I can't print. Back story: I had CS4 on my machine from my last job and it printed fine. When I lost my job, I went the legit route and installed the demo for CS 6 until I was able to aquire my own copy. CS 6 also printed fine.
I found a version on eBay of CS 5.5 and was eager to install. Yes, it is a full legit version with original disc and packaging; the seller even went so far as to have the liscence transfered over to me. I used the "AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool" to remove all previous versions before doing a clean install of CS 5.5. Everything else in the suite seems to be running normally except printing.
I've looked on the forums and tried several of their suggestions to no avail:
1) I tried changing the "Color Handling" in the print options box.
2) I tired running it in 32 bit mode.
3) I tried fixing permissions.
4) I trashed my preferences and tried the Shift-Option-Command trick
5) I updated the Adobe software (no updates for Photoshop)
6) I reinstalled my printer drivers.
I just printed last night from CS 6 and now no luck today.
