I've been using Photoshop since 1998 but my HDD recently suffered a complete failure and I've had to change the drive. Unfortunately, I don't have my original Photoshop disk, only a CS2 and CS5 upgrade disk (with both serial numbers).

Is there a way to save this information so when I back it up to a portable hard drive I have all the keytags and such if needed for putting on a new computer if for example the hard drive crashes and I lose everything.Â

I have Dreamweaver CS3, Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3, and Flash CS3 installed on it. I run all these programs at same time and now my hdd is about to go. This is going to be the first one on this system but on my previous system, I had to replace my hdd 3 times before I just changed systems. But it seems, I'm still having the same problem on my new system. The old system was an IBM Lenovo T60p with a Core Duo processor, 2 gigs of RAM, a SATA HDD @ 7200 rpm, running win xp pro with sp2.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have photoshop CS2 on my desktop computer (XP). The hard drive is partitioned and I have photoshop scratch disk on its own partition (10GB).
I have photoshop CS3 on my laptop (Vista Premium, 2GB ram). There is only one hard drive in the laptop. It is already partitioned into three - C drive: windows + programs, S drive: system files, X drive: recovery.
My question is do I keep my scratch drive on the C drive or can/should I partition an external hard drive (250GB) and put my photoshop scratch disk on there? The external drive is via USB.
I recently upgraded to an SSD on my MBP, I bought a caddy and swapped out the optical drive for the original HDD internally. Now, I was hoping to move the scratch disk from the SSD to the original HDD, but the HDD doesn't even show up as an option in the Photoshop preferences. The drive is easily accessible anywhere else, and even accessible through the open/save/etc. menus within Photoshop, so OS X and Photoshop both know the drive is there, but Photoshop just isn't showing it as an option within the Scratch Disk options setting.

View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently my hard drive took a (hike) and crashed - data may or may not be recoverable (Geeks are working on that), and I needed to reinstall my CS5 and Lightroom software to a new hard drive (I had to buy a new one). All of my RAW photos are stored on an external drive and were not harmed. Here is my dilemma. Most of the presets I used also went crashing with that hard drive, (yes I believe they were backed up but also on that hard drive...stupid I know-trust me I know!!) but most of them were the free ones from the adobe recommended users on this site. I actually found many of my favorites still posted on the Adobe site and re-downloaded and installed the presets I'd been using the past year and a half, and imade sure those presets were housed properly in their folder via Preferences in Lightroom. Great. I can continue on with my work. WRONG! When I went to go import a recent shoot that I had already edited, it imported the RAW files but none of the previous edits I had worked on for these photos were showing up...it was as if I didn't even touch them and they came right from my camera. What in the world is going on? I'm baffled...and freaking out as I have thousands upon thousands of edited shoots in RAW, and I fear that none of the edits and enhancements made to those photos are going to be present and I'll have to start over. that all of my last 2 years of editing photos are still with the RAW files?!!!

I found a deal on a an HP Intell Core i7 processor) 2 TB hard drive tower, so I ended up needing to install the 64 bit versions of CS5 and Lightroom 3.6. I did test out the RAW (.NEF) file in Photoshop CS5 and my edited RAW image came up "correctly" - so I know that the information is still with the RAW image...I just need it to work and show in lightroom, as it is easier to export the files to the sizes I need them to be.

I have CS2 and CS3 still installed. I installed it as Administrator, per the instructions, but it didn't seem to matter. I do everything as the Admin anyways. I looked for those 3 files mentioned in the error, but they are nowhere to be found and I have system files visible. I've not called tech support yet, hoping to avoid that. I moved images from my harddrive to an external drive.
I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.
I have my LR library and catalog on an external hard drive. I have a new iMac with a 3TB hard drive and I want to move the library and catalog from the external drive to the computer's hard drive. Is this something that can be done with a drag and drop?

I have used Photoshop Album 3 to mark the photos so I can find them and I need to be sure when I move the pictures this information stays with them and that new pictures will be placed into this new hard disk called "P".
I'm using Light Room 1.3. on a Mac. My catalog is in my user/pictures folder, but my photos were kept in a large number of nested folders and subfolders on an external hard drive. The hard drive died. I have backups of all the photos and a fairly recent backup of the LR catalog, but when I open the catalog or the backup, all the paths to the photos have been broken. The folders appear in red in the "Folders" window of LR. I know how to relink the individual folders by using "Locate Missing Folder", but I've got hundreds of folders listed. The top level folders are not listed--there were basically three folders in which all the rest were located (sometimes several folders down). Is there anyway to re-establish the paths without doing so for each individual folder? how I might re-arrange my thousands of photos so this can't happen again. I was just about to upgrade to a new iMac and LR4, but am afraid of the same thing happening when I transfer everything to the new computer.

My questions are about having a seperate hard drive set to RAID 0. I have the money to get a seperate hard drive (74GB 10,000rpm), and i was thinking about doing this. I know that RAID 0 is supposed to produce better preformance and such like, but i wanted to know what it could be used for in coallition with the programs i use on a daily basis, and weather or not it is really worth doing. 1. How do i format a hard disk to RAID 0?2. Is it ok to use a RAID 0 74GB, 10,000rpm hard disk along side another hard disk NTFS 500GB, 7200rpm?3. Does it have to be completely dedicated? Could i work it so that i have windows and applications installed on the RAID 0 hard disk, and use it as my primary scratch disk, and use the 500GB NTFS hard disk as data storage and secondary scratch disk? 4. Is there anything i should be awear of with this type of setup that are draw-backs?

I keep LR on the iMac harddrive but all photos on the external drive with the second external drive for copies of the photos. My primary external drive died. I have copied the photos from the second external drive over to a new primary external drive, but I can't figure out how to restore the catalog and use this new drive in my regular workflow. When I go to the catalog file and open up the catalog, it first tries to get me to import all the photos from the new primary drive. Is that what I want to do? If my secondary drive had failed I could have figured this out easier but the primary external failure has really thrown me for a loop.

I normally download my photos onto iPhoto (and a while ago, onto Bridge CS3 which came with an earlier version of PSE) but more recently have become interested in using the PSE Organizer for my photo library. I have started to transfer/copy the photos from iPhoto but, having read various topics on organizing photos, am a little worried that by having the photos in 2/3 places on the MAC I will use much more hard-disk space. I know that the original files for iPhoto are in the 'Library' so that I just see thumbnails on iPhoto ( I may be wrong here?), but will the photos I now have on Organizer be working off those same 'Library' originals or am I doubling up on the space required to store these photos?
