Sep 25, 2013I am not changing anything in my system. I am using windows 7 and will continue to. No change in elements version (10). how to move my pictures from my computer hard drive to an external hard drive (this will NOT be a back up) but the primary locaton for my pictures. I will keep elements program on my computer and when I want to work on my pictures or download more pictures from my camera I will connect to the external hard drive.Â

Jul 24, 2013I have an i7 2760QM XPS L502x laptop and for several reasons it won't be possible for some time to add the SSD I am eying (Samsung 840 Pro 512GB or Crucial M500) . Therefore I was wondering if I bought a less expensive SSD, lets say around $100 and stuck it in an external eSATA or USB 3.0 caddy if I would see a difference in speed when using it as a scratch disk. If so, would placing the files I am working on on that drive be beneficial compared to the slow internal one I have now and do you all have any recommendations on what caddy to buy? If it changes anything I am running Photoshop CS6 64-Bit.

Mar 17, 2009I have a DELL XPS 1330. The computer stopped working while I was visiting another country. The support people there had me reinstall VISTA on my computer thus ALL my programs were taken away.
Well, turns out that was not the problem. 2 weeks later the same problem happened. The laptop is not repaired and I want to reinstall my CS3 Extended version. Can I just insert the disc and reinstall it to my computer?
I am pretty computer illiterate on some things but can follow directions when they are given. I have not installed the program on any other computer b/c I thought it was registered to me on my laptop and did not want to mess that up for when mine was finally repaired.

(laptop is frequently shut off)  Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.

I know that RAID 0 is supposed to produce better preformance and such like, but i wanted to know what it could be used for in coallition with the programs i use on a daily basis, and weather or not it is really worth doing. 1. How do i format a hard disk to RAID 0?2. Is it ok to use a RAID 0 74GB, 10,000rpm hard disk along side another hard disk NTFS 500GB, 7200rpm?3. Does it have to be completely dedicated? Could i work it so that i have windows and applications installed on the RAID 0 hard disk, and use it as my primary scratch disk, and use the 500GB NTFS hard disk as data storage and secondary scratch disk? 4. Is there anything i should be awear of with this type of setup that are draw-backs?

Oct 14, 2012I use an external hard drive for my Lightroom images. When I travel I take that external (plus a second identical one for back-up) with me and use my laptop. When I return home, I use that external to view and edit my images on my desktop. Suddenly about 350 images show up as missing or offline when I view that external drive on my desktop. Nothing is seen as offline or missing. What can have happened? I use the same external, the same catalog and do not understand why the images are seen only on one computer and not the other. I am an Apple user but can't see what difference that would make.

Oct 10, 2008I have photoshop CS2 on my desktop computer (XP). The hard drive is partitioned and I have photoshop scratch disk on its own partition (10GB).
I have photoshop CS3 on my laptop (Vista Premium, 2GB ram). There is only one hard drive in the laptop. It is already partitioned into three - C drive: windows + programs, S drive: system files, X drive: recovery.
My question is do I keep my scratch drive on the C drive or can/should I partition an external hard drive (250GB) and put my photoshop scratch disk on there? The external drive is via USB.

Jun 27, 2013I recently upgraded to an SSD on my MBP, I bought a caddy and swapped out the optical drive for the original HDD internally. Now, I was hoping to move the scratch disk from the SSD to the original HDD, but the HDD doesn't even show up as an option in the Photoshop preferences. The drive is easily accessible anywhere else, and even accessible through the open/save/etc. menus within Photoshop, so OS X and Photoshop both know the drive is there, but Photoshop just isn't showing it as an option within the Scratch Disk options setting.
