My laptop died. I have photos in LR that I didn't export. I have the hard drive from the crashed laptop connected to another computer. Where are the photos located in that hard drive?
View 5 RepliesI have many photos on my laptop and have a catalog set up through Lightroom 3.5. I decided the best way to store the photos is to keep them on an external hard drive so that I may work on them easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is frequently shut off) Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.

No change in elements version (10). how to move my pictures from my computer hard drive to an external hard drive (this will NOT be a back up) but the primary locaton for my pictures. I will keep elements program on my computer and when I want to work on my pictures or download more pictures from my camera I will connect to the external hard drive.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI use an external hard drive for my Lightroom images. When I travel I take that external (plus a second identical one for back-up) with me and use my laptop. When I return home, I use that external to view and edit my images on my desktop. Suddenly about 350 images show up as missing or offline when I view that external drive on my desktop. Nothing is seen as offline or missing. What can have happened? I use the same external, the same catalog and do not understand why the images are seen only on one computer and not the other. I am an Apple user but can't see what difference that would make.

While I have a 500 Gb hard drive, I notice that the Bridge CS 6 cache is getting larger quickly (looking forward to 1 Terabyte SSDs).
I have most of my images on external hard drives, but Bridge CS6's cache seems to be on my computer.
Can I store the Bridge cache locally?
So, if I have 1000 images on hard drive A, the cache for them would be on hard drive A.
And for 100 TIFFS on hard drive B, the cache would be on hard drive B.
And for the 100 most recent TIFFs I keep on my computer's hard drive, the Bridge cache would be on my computer.
It this what checking the box next to "Automatically Export Caches To Folders When Possible" does or am I misunderstanding this - and this option only puts COPY of the cache files on the external hard drive, but the Bridge cache file on my computer still contains all the images, not matter on which hard drive they'd be?
I did upgrade from Photoshop cs4 to cs5 few years ago by buying an upgrade CD..now my hard drive crashed and i lost my Photoshop cs5..
serial number is available but i don't have the cs5 upgrade cd. how can i get the Photoshop cs5 on my laptop?

However they are still in the folder where the original RAW files are on my desktop. does the delete process take a while to complete?

I used to import hundreds of photos into folders and while reviewing them i could delete and individual photo and get a pop up message confirming "delete from disk". If I clicked that the file would be deleted and I could continue reviewing photos. Suddenly now when i delete a photo in the review process I get the first message, "delete from disk" and if I click that I get a second message now that says "The files are on a volume that does not support trash, permanently delete files from disk?" If I click that, my screen goes blank and I have to search where I was in the flow in reviewing the photos. It is impossible to quickly go thorugh and delete photos!!
I do not use preview to delete photos before they are imported, I feel I need to see the full file and then decide if I want to delete it.
I have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I had the hard drive replaced on my mac. I did a restore from back up drive to my new hard drive. First LR4 couldn't find the catalog so I pointed to it. Then I opened lightroom 4 and it cannot see ANY of my photos. I don't want to link each folder full of photos it will take hours. Isn't there another way to do this so it finds them all at once? Photos are still located in the same location on the new hard drive after restore. Nothing changed except the hard drive.

I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.

View 11 Replies View RelatedThis is a problem that has gotten progressively worse recently. I can still download photos from my camera to the hard drive using Elements 5, but I can no longer import more than about 5 photos at a time from the hard drive to the Organizer. My computer is a Dell 8300 purchased in 2004, with a Pentium 4 processor, 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB RAM,Windows XP, and Norton AntiVirus. I have about 265 GB of photos on a 350 GB partition (G: drive) of the hard drive. The other partition (C: drive) has about 50 GB of free space.
I've tried many fixes, including using CCleaner and Microsoft Disk Cleaner to remove unnecessary files and fix Registry problems; turning off and repowering the entire system; using Nikon Transfer to download the photos, instead of Photoshop; using Startup Inspector to remove unnecessary startup programs, as well as turning off all other software.
I get two different messages, at different times, from Elements when the process freezes:
1. "The ODBC data source reported the following error: "Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Invalid argument."
2. "The ODBC data source reported the following error: [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." (I'm not on a network.)
I also sometimes get another message from Norton: "High CPU usage by AOL", even when AOL is shut down.
My hard drive crashed and I lost all my data and pics. The pics are stored in a 20gig file on the adobe cloud. The software does not show me how to bring those pics back to my new hard drive.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently took a number of photos, which I then put onto my hard-drive in a temporary folder - so I could view them on the monitor using the ordinary windows viewer. A day or so later, I went into Photoshop Elements 11 and imported them into the catalog. I thought that by doing so I would copy them from the temporary folder into the "main" folder - the one where all the photos are imported to when I import them from the camera's memory card. So I then deleted the temporary folder. And then I found that the photos were not actually in the main folder after all. They had remained in the temporary folder, despite being added to the catalog (and where now deleted).
Is there a way to make PSE 11 move or copy the photos from a folder on the hard drive to the "main" folder?
