Is there any way to export LR photosdirectly from LR if the original file has been deleted from Hardrive. If not, can the image from LR somehow still be printed as photos and if so how?
View 6 RepliesI have deleted photos from Lightroom 4 by choosing the 'remove from disk' option. I never want to see them again so want them to go into the iMac Trash. However they are still in the folder where the original RAW files are on my desktop. does the delete process take a while to complete?

Now I would like to send them back to the original places on my hard drive so I can import them in small batches and work on them. How can I do this without losing any images? I used to import hundreds of photos into folders and while reviewing them i could delete and individual photo and get a pop up message confirming "delete from disk". If I clicked that the file would be deleted and I could continue reviewing photos. Suddenly now when i delete a photo in the review process I get the first message, "delete from disk" and if I click that I get a second message now that says "The files are on a volume that does not support trash, permanently delete files from disk?" If I click that, my screen goes blank and I have to search where I was in the flow in reviewing the photos. It is impossible to quickly go thorugh and delete photos!!
I do not use preview to delete photos before they are imported, I feel I need to see the full file and then decide if I want to delete it.
I have a batch of photos that were imported in Lr, edited, and exported with a watermark. I then deleted the original file. Well, the pictures still show up in my photo strip in Lr, but it won't let me export it because it's saying the "file is missing or offline". I know I deleted these photos and have no way of retrieving them. Question is: Since I can still view them in Lightroom, is there any way to export them now? Even if I have to open in another program and save them, I don't care. I just need these photos w/o the watermark.

I have a reasonable sized preview, I can go in and look at the image, the only difference is I can't zoom in to 1:1. I want to export the preview image from lightroom, its still better than losing the whole image.
Is there anyway to do that? the usual export throws a missing file alert.
I have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I have many photos on my laptop and have a catalog set up through Lightroom 3.5. I decided the best way to store the photos is to keep them on an external hard drive so that I may work on them easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is frequently shut off) Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had the hard drive replaced on my mac. I did a restore from back up drive to my new hard drive. First LR4 couldn't find the catalog so I pointed to it. Then I opened lightroom 4 and it cannot see ANY of my photos. I don't want to link each folder full of photos it will take hours. Isn't there another way to do this so it finds them all at once? Photos are still located in the same location on the new hard drive after restore. Nothing changed except the hard drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI work for a distribution company that sells 15+ product lines. For almost every product, they have a photograph. I was asked to set up a system whereby a number of sales representatives could access these photographs in an organized fashion from their own computers. This is how I have set things up: A media computer (backed up onto an external hard drive) has all the raw files. In lightroom I have set up two publish services to hard drive. The export location for these two publish services was an external drive that was accessible throughout the company network. Unfortunately, while I was gone, the external drive was changed over to a cloud-based system. As such, the export location for my publish services no longer exists.
Of course, I could go and re-create the publish services, but unfortunately that would be an incredibly laborious process because each publish service has 10 or so sets with 2-4 levels of folders amounting to several hundred folders that would need to be re-created. Moreover, because of the complexity of the system, I made them all smart-folders with specified attributes, etc. So re-creating all these folders would take a whole lot of time.
So, I was wondering if there is any lightroom wiz out there who knows a work-around for my issue.
Now, I did do some digging already and I came across this article: [URL] which outlines a method for changing the export location! However, as far as I can tell, I would still have to change the export location of each folder manually, which would basically be just as complex and confusing as recreating the publish service anyways. Am I correct in this thinking, or using this method is there a "root" folder than I can change, which will change every other folder?
Importing photos from a hard drive folder. The photos show up in the grid, but then when I try to final import to LightRoom the program states that the following were not imported, and lists all the photo id's -- but does not say why not. Why the import would fail at that step?

workflow: i develop the master to the point where i want to diverge, then create a virtual copy, finish developing and publish to hard drive. Have done this a million times, but since most recent reinstall (for a plethora of reasons, but mostly difficulties with performance and performance - and oh! performance... ;-), it publishes only the undeveloped original. I've tried publishing the master, just to see what happens, and ditto: only the unedited raw file is displaying in my published folder on the hard-drive.
i am careful to select 'Show PUBLISHED folder on hard-drive' from the right-click drop-down on the published image in the hard-drive publishing module, which in lightroom DOES reflect all changes, but the image on the hard-drive is the original raw file, renamed to the publish-service's specs.
Having to do an extra export into ps6 (which does reflect changes), and re-save for no other reason than to preserve development is time-consuming and destructive to my workflow, which is darned complicated enough as it is!
I am using Lightroom 5 also to color grade some of my short videos as it seems to be pretty handy. Unfortunately, for some videos the export fails with the error that the hard drive does not contain rendered images. The screenshot below shows the error message in German.
As I was using the same options for many other videos before, I was wondering what causes this error. The hard drive where I have the lightroom catelog is an external USB3 hdd with lots of space left.
I have made a backup copy of all my photos to an external hard drive and photoshop does not recognize the file in order to restore the back up.
