Importing photos from a hard drive folder. The photos show up in the grid, but then when I try to final import to LightRoom the program states that the following were not imported, and lists all the photo id's -- but does not say why not. Why the import would fail at that step?
View 1 RepliesI recently took a number of photos, which I then put onto my hard-drive in a temporary folder - so I could view them on the monitor using the ordinary windows viewer. A day or so later, I went into Photoshop Elements 11 and imported them into the catalog. I thought that by doing so I would copy them from the temporary folder into the "main" folder - the one where all the photos are imported to when I import them from the camera's memory card. So I then deleted the temporary folder. And then I found that the photos were not actually in the main folder after all. They had remained in the temporary folder, despite being added to the catalog (and where now deleted).
Is there a way to make PSE 11 move or copy the photos from a folder on the hard drive to the "main" folder?
When I go to import photo's that are on my hard drive, and click on Macintosh HD the arrow moves down but my files are all not showing up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen importing something off of a DVD or CD how do I direct Lightroom to copy the imported images or folder to a specific folder on my hard drive? It seems to default to MyCatalog but leaves the location on the CD rather than copying it to the drive. If I remove the CD the images is reported as missing.
When I go to the top of the screen for importing I can change the source but the location info on the right is not active or changeable.I am new to lightroom and coming from Photoshop Elements background.
I used to be able to export images to a selected folder on my hard-drive without having to identify the folder for every image. Now when I export I need to select the folder on my hard-drive for each image even thought I'm going to process 50+ images for that folder. I'm using Lightroom 5.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I am importing photos into LR5 and sending them to my hard drive at the same time LR is creating a duplicate folder of the same size on my external hard drive. It creates the folder I tell it to create then it create a duplicate folder called "imported on, date, year" Questions: Why is this happening? Is there a setting in LR I am missing. Most important question, can I delete this folder, I want to make sure it holds not important information.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got about 10,000 photos that I've moved in lightroom by creating a folder called 'pictures' on the external drive using the left folders panel. I then selected all the images in the root drive on my computer and dragged them onto the 'pictures' folder on the external drive, and I expected the folder structure to come with it. Only after I realised that they had all moved into one folder. Is there a way of moving the images back into a structure without manually doing it? Here's a screenshot.....
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently my hard drive took a (hike) and crashed - data may or may not be recoverable (Geeks are working on that), and I needed to reinstall my CS5 and Lightroom software to a new hard drive (I had to buy a new one). All of my RAW photos are stored on an external drive and were not harmed. Here is my dilemma. Most of the presets I used also went crashing with that hard drive, (yes I believe they were backed up but also on that hard drive...stupid I know-trust me I know!!) but most of them were the free ones from the adobe recommended users on this site. I actually found many of my favorites still posted on the Adobe site and re-downloaded and installed the presets I'd been using the past year and a half, and imade sure those presets were housed properly in their folder via Preferences in Lightroom. Great. I can continue on with my work. WRONG! When I went to go import a recent shoot that I had already edited, it imported the RAW files but none of the previous edits I had worked on for these photos were showing up...it was as if I didn't even touch them and they came right from my camera. What in the world is going on? I'm baffled...and freaking out as I have thousands upon thousands of edited shoots in RAW, and I fear that none of the edits and enhancements made to those photos are going to be present and I'll have to start over. that all of my last 2 years of editing photos are still with the RAW files?!!!
I found a deal on a an HP Intell Core i7 processor) 2 TB hard drive tower, so I ended up needing to install the 64 bit versions of CS5 and Lightroom 3.6. I did test out the RAW (.NEF) file in Photoshop CS5 and my edited RAW image came up "correctly" - so I know that the information is still with the RAW image...I just need it to work and show in lightroom, as it is easier to export the files to the sizes I need them to be.

However they are still in the folder where the original RAW files are on my desktop. does the delete process take a while to complete?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work with an external drive in Lightroom 5. I used to import hundreds of photos into folders and while reviewing them i could delete and individual photo and get a pop up message confirming "delete from disk". If I clicked that the file would be deleted and I could continue reviewing photos. Suddenly now when i delete a photo in the review process I get the first message, "delete from disk" and if I click that I get a second message now that says "The files are on a volume that does not support trash, permanently delete files from disk?" If I click that, my screen goes blank and I have to search where I was in the flow in reviewing the photos. It is impossible to quickly go thorugh and delete photos!!
I do not use preview to delete photos before they are imported, I feel I need to see the full file and then decide if I want to delete it.
I have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I have many photos on my laptop and have a catalog set up through Lightroom 3.5. I decided the best way to store the photos is to keep them on an external hard drive so that I may work on them easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is frequently shut off) Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had the hard drive replaced on my mac. I did a restore from back up drive to my new hard drive. First LR4 couldn't find the catalog so I pointed to it. Then I opened lightroom 4 and it cannot see ANY of my photos. I don't want to link each folder full of photos it will take hours. Isn't there another way to do this so it finds them all at once? Photos are still located in the same location on the new hard drive after restore. Nothing changed except the hard drive.

But when I compare the catalog to the actual photos in the folder, there are 104 pics missing from the catalog. If I try to sync the catalog, it says 104 pics need to be imported, but the import process says there are no new photos.
I created a new catalog and tried to import the folder again, but its still missing the same 104 pictures.
I downloaded the Lightroom 4 trial program. After watching a tutorial on importing and organizing I imported a few photos from the hard drive on my laptop. All the functions of the program are working but the images of the photos don't show up.Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the program? Can I do that and still have the trial time of 30 days? Is there some other on/off thing I need to do to make this work?
