Photoshop :: Develop Great Color Workflow - SRGB?

Question for you. I'm really trying hard to develop a great color work flow. I realized after my new discovery I didn't to proof my photoshop files under Blurb's cmyk profile any longer. I went under Proofing and selected the calibration I have done with my X-rite colormunki. I realize under custom is the whole array of choices from the default Apple RGB to selecting the calibration colormunkit profile I do every two weeks with my X-Rite Colormunki. I just realized there are other settings I can select as well. One being the legacy Macintosh RGB Gamma 1.8. then Internet Standard RGB (SRGB), and finally Monitor RGB. the second of first choice
This question has gotten more intense for me. Since I'm working in Photoshop on files for my website should I set the monitor to Internet Standard RGB (sRGB) when I'm color correcting and adjusting my files for the web. Also should I go under custom and select the X-Rite Colormunki profile? Also since I'm going to only use SRGB files for Blurb books and not use Blurb's Icc profile any longer. Should I also select the Internet Standard RGB (sRGB) as for my monitor while adjusting my files for Blurb books or leave it as one of the other two legacy Macintosh RGB Gamma 1.8 etc?
Now again I'm wondering when I'm printing files for my Epson printers should I select legacy Macintosh RGB Gamma 1.8 or monitor RGB. Also should I choice the X-rite calibrated profile. I know when I'm in the Epson driver I go and select the printer profile for the printing paper I will be using.

What I'm actually looking for: a "workflow-checklist-plugin".

This plugin should be a plugin visible in the develop module of Lightroom.It (the plugin) should show me a list of checkboxes (which I could define). These Checkboxes contain the different steps of my LR-Workflow (to make sure that I don't forget one of them). Also, the "TAG" Metadata of the photo should be edited within the plugins-windows (with this feature, there's no need to jump back to the library to add a TAG). All data might be saved in the photos metadata.
To describe a bit more in detail what I mean, I generated a "sample picture" if there's somewhere such a workflow-plugin? And: is it possible to modify the TAG of a photo in the develop module (without jumping back to the library)?

I have alot of paper that I want to reduce & eliminate, I have a bunch of certificates, magazine/newspaper clippings that I have from high school & college to scan & would like to know what color settings would be best.

I also have a bunch of brochures, other odd papers, receipts, & handwritten notes.

I am using an Epson perfection photo 4490 flatbed scanner, on a mac running lion 10.7.5.

I would also like to know what would be the best resolution to use.

I read a little about bit depth, & from what I gather, the human eye can only see so many colors, & going with bigger color depths is good where one has to do alot of editing.

most of these items are for records & archives, & maybe to be able to print from the scans, so I can throw out some of my paper.Also, when I scan in Adobe RGB, would it be best to use 48 bit depth to go with the fuller color? & when I use sRGB use 24 bit depth?

I'm having a color management issue. I use CS3 and the Spyder2Express color calibration system. I presently have my system (Windows) set to the Spyder2Express profile found under the display properties. I have Photoshop set to sRGB under edit-color settings. I am for some reason suddenly (in the past few days) having big issues with editing the photo in Photoshop to look as I want, then it experiencing a large color shift when viewed in any Windows application or uploaded to the web (IE7). Colors look very dull and washed out compared to Photoshop. From my experience, the opposite has been true if working in Adobe RGB and failing to save to sRGB before uploading the image to the web - the images wash out. So, why are my images washing out if working in sRGB as my Photoshop color space to begin with? Any Photoshop + windows experts combined that can help? I am pulling my hair out. I need to upload photos to my blog (I am a photographer) and they look super dull compared to how they view in Photoshop!

I just installed CS3 in Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on my PC and I have my working color space set as sRGB. The color is dull when opening documents in any Adobe application with the working color space set to sRGB. The color is fixed if I change the working profile to my monitor profile which is "Monitor RGB - Dell 2407WFP-HC"
When in the "Monitor RGB - Dell 2407WFP-HC" profile whenever I open an existing file Photoshop alerts me that the embedded color profile is different than my working profile (all of my existing files are managed as sRGB and on my previous computer the sRGB profile looked perfect.)
Photoshop I could theoretically live with but the same problem occurs in Acrobat and changing the "Working Profile" in Acrobat has no change on how the sRGB managed PDF is being displayed. The same PDF will look fine on another computer.
How do I get sRGB color to display correctly in Adobe applications and not look dull and muted?
Additional Information: The problem is still prevalent when accessing the computer with Remote Desktop which leads me to believe it has nothing to do with my monitor or the video card I am using.

I shoot Nikon and use Capture NX2 as my RAW converter. I then save my conversion as a TIFF and move into Photoshop CS6 for all of my editing and processing.
Here is my question: I have an Epson 3880 printer and i really like it. Ive started making my own prints and ive found that the ability to tweak the images is really an advantage vs. having a lab print them for me. Ive read quite a bit and seem to get conflicting positions.
Its seems as if sRGB is best for internet whereas Adobe RGB (1998) is best for prints. However, im a bit confused by all of the articles ive read. If i want the best of both worlds would the following be a good workflow?
1. Shoot in RAW
2. Convert RAW image to a TIFF in Capture NX2 with the Adobe RGB (1998) color space (I use Capture NX2 as my RAW converter)
3. Move the file to Photoshop CS6 and fully edit
4. Print the image
5. Convert the image to the sRGB color space and save as a JPEG
6. Post to web (i.e. Flickr)
Does that sound like a good plan or would you recommend starting and ending in the sRGB color space. Ive heard that changing the color space in an image slightly denigrates it ?

I have both PSE 10 and LR 5.2, but am not that comfortable with LR yet. I took a new photo and brought it into LR for a few edits, then did "Edit In" to finish the edits in PSE. The file was a Tiff at that point. I went to use the "Touch Up Scratches and Blemishes" tool, and it wouldn't allow me to use it until I got the prompt to convert from 16 bit color to 8 bit, which I did. Then did a bunch of other edits in PSE, and did a "Save As" to a JPG file. On the "Save As" dialog, the only option I had for "Color" was a checkbox that said "ICC Profile: ProPhoto RGB". Left that checked.

After saving the file, I looked at the file properties on the "Details" tab. It shows the "Color representation" as "Uncalibrated" and the "Photometric interpretation" as "RGB". Normally when I don't do the LR edits first, the "Color representation" is "sRGB" and the "Photometric interpretation" is blank.

So the questions: Is what I did OK? The final jpg file appears OK when I took at it in Windows, but wonder if I am going to have a problem somewhere else. Did I lose detail in converting from 16 bit to 8 bit to do the edits in PSE? Should I have done something different along the way, assuming I wanted to do my final edits in PSE?

I would like to do a decent calibration of my Epson V750 Pro scanner to achieve a color-managed workflow. I have the latest version X-Rite i1 Photo Pro 2 calibration kit, and although this enables me to calibrate my monitor and printer, it does not support scanner calibration.Â
I do have Silver fast Ai Studio which includes a scanner calibration facility - is that the best available to me or are there any other options, possibly using the i1 spectrophotometer as I know that it used to be possible to carry out calibration with the older versions of that equipment? Other than that, I'm using an Epson 3880 printer, running Vista x64 and using Photoshop CS5.

When I export RAW files, specifying that I want the output to be in sRGB color space the resulting files have the Adobe RGB color space. The same is true if I specify I want them in ProPhoto. Is this a bug? I have done it successfully in other versions of Lightroom, but not in 4.3.

I'm aiming to take RAW photo files, edit them in a wide color space, and when posting them to the web, save them as sRGB.

I open RAW files in Photoshop via ACR as 16-bit ProPhoto smart objects. When I finish editing them, I use "Save for Web" with the "Convert to sRGB" and "Embed Color Profile" boxes checked.
Â
Photoshop and Bridge tell me the profile in photos saved as such is sRGB as expected. When I upload to a site like flickr, however, the metadata says the photo is still in ProPhoto. See an example here: [URL]...If I use "Convert to Profile" and change it to sRGB, then upload to flickr, the metadata says the photo is in sRGB, as it should be.

When I export vector graphics to RGB/sRGB and open the pdf in another software (like Serif Page Plus, Adobe etc.), the color values are variying a little bit.
For example, my gray value of a logotype in Corel was 118, 115, 113. Now I export as pdf (many logical!! setting of CM tried!!!), any other software that opens the document - also CORRECT CM settings - values are 117, 115, 112. --- The same light variations nearly anytime with any RGB color. Not possible to create vector pdfs of logos for my clients correctly this way! Really bad.Â
Instead of starting a discussion about Color Management Settings, could any professional, maybe a Corel member check this behaviour in practice and give me a feed-back!? - In the best case let me know the complete settings for Corel CM and pdf Export to get the RGB pdf export done correctly.Â
(I am currently using X4, but know that same behaviour from X3 and passed again hours to try really all reasonable CM and export combinations, at least I think so. Windows7 and WindowsXP)

With LR4 and a Nikon D7000.When i import that raw in lightroom, the first view of the picture is fine then LR do its "loading" and bang, the picture changes.As RAW is not supposed to be affected by the colorspace My understanding is the embeded preview in the raw is sRGB and LR work in a different colorspace. If i change the camera for AdobeRGB, i dont have the problem and what i see from the camera to the preview then the final result is consistent.But this cause me another problem because i shoot RAW+jpeg, the backup JPEG saved in the other memory card is now AdobeRGB as well and less compatible as everybody knows, for web, print labatory, etc...

I'm trying to switch over to a gamma/linear color space workflow. 3dsmax and multiple blogs state that displacement, normal bumps, and bump maps should be noted in 3dsmax as gamma 1.0. All other maps (diffuse maps, etc) should be noted as gamma 2.2 (or whatever gamma you created them in) so 3dsmax can properly convert them to gamma 1.0 during its math calculations.
This is all fine. It makes sense that if you make a color bitmap in Photoshop, what you see on screen is being created/tweaked at gamma 2.2 and needs to be converted in 3dsmax (corrected down to gamma 1.0). 3dsmax notes that Mudbox and certain other software produce normal and displacement maps already in gamma 1.0 so these do not need to be corrected. Similarly, black and white bitmaps used for bump and displacement also should be noted as 1.0, not 2.2 (not adjusted down to 1.0).
Questions:
1) If I create a normal bump map in Photoshop (plugin), is that going to be gamma 1.0 or 2.2?
1b) Does it depend on which format I save it in? For example, jpgs default to gamma 2.2 (no gamma listed), while targas can note inside the file which gamma they use.
1c) If, in Photoshop, I simply open a normal map created in Mudbox (made and saved at gamma 1.0 automatically), resize it in Photoshop, and resave it as a jpg, have I inadvertently converted it to a gamma 2.2 image?
2) If I make a grayscale bump/displacement bitmap in Photoshop, it does not need to be adjusted from gamma 2.2 (but is "already" gamma 1.0). Why then would I note that same grayscale bitmap, created in Photoshop, as gamma 2.2 if it's used in any other slot (reflection, roughness, cutout, glossiness, etc)? By using Photoshop, aren't I looking at gamma 2.2 adjusted grayscale values on the screen when I create the grayscale image?
2b) Conversely, are displacement/ normal/ bump maps made in Mudbox only gamma 1.0 if they are saved in a non-jpg format?

I have a set of JPEGs that have been stripped of their color profiles (AdobeRGB). Lightroom assumes that they are sRGB images and displays them incorrectly. Is there any function in the program that will let me embed the correct (AdobeRGB) profile to the photos, preferably without re-compressing them?

My setup is a ATI FirePro v4900 connected to two monitors: an Eizo CG276 and an old second monitor. I would like to get the Eizo to display 10-bit colors in PS CS6 under a 64-bit Windows 7.

After setting everything up, I am at a point where Lightroom 4.4 displays the notorious ramp.psd file (see below) without banding in the develop module, hence I assume 10-bit is working there. In Photoshop, however, I had no success so far to get 10-bit to work.

Summed up, I did:
1) enable 10-bit mode in ATI driver and rebooted -> checked and this is still enabled after reboot
2) open PS CS6 and enable "advanced" drawing mode and 30-bit display in the "performance" options and rebooted -> checked and this is still enabled after reboot

I verified that the monitor runs in 10-bit mode using Monitor Asset Manager 2.6 [URL]. It states that Color bit depth is "10 bits per primary color", which is what I want.

Then I tried to open the ATI 10-bit test file ramp.psd [URL]. In Photoshop it shows banding. As I've read that Lightroom 4's develop module uses 10-bit, I opened the file there and it had no banding.

The only troubleshooting I could find for 10-bit colors in PS was this post [URL] ... however I do not have desaturation set in the color preferences of PS, hence it does not apply to my problem.

Dithered usually refers to the alternating pixels present in some .gifs, not .jpgs. Is that really what you mean? - if it is, can you post the .jpg?
Also, if you aren't saving it using "Save for web", you probably might want to try that.

I'm using Photoshop CC on windows 7 64 bit Compaq Presario CQ57. I'm very concerned that the "v ram" graphics card memory with this laptop is not big enough for the stated 512MB needed for 3D and other visual effects and that this might be the issue.

The "v ram" is set by HP on these models and is apparently 'linked' and 'unchangeable' from the motherboard. (as is 99 percent of laptops) BTW, I am disabled, I can't use a desktop PC.

I can't, however, find out how big the actual "v ram" is on my laptop. My computer's direct x diagnostic tells me the total display memory is 1960 MB. But is this the same as the v ram? Perhaps I'm just missing a stage in CC Photoshop that I need to do before using filters.

As you can see here, my sliders (the ones on the left) have lost their color & shadows!

Mine used to look like the ones on the right, then at some point they got to be a little desaturated... then a little while later they came to be what is on the left!

I'm would guess it's just some unfortunate hotkey I accidentally used (multiple times), but I've been unable to find anything about it...

I've tried resetting all the preferences in Lightroom, deleting plist files from the Library folder & even contacted adobe support though chat, but all to no avail.

Using Lightroom 4.1 final, I see greatly different color saturation between the Library (very saturated) and the Develop (seems OK) module if I start the program on my sRGB monitor and drag the window to the wide gamut screen.
It seems like the Library preview is rendered as if the monitor was sRGB.

This seems very similar to the problem that was fixed from 4.1 RC2 to 4.1 final, but more specific to particular circumstances. And the problem does not exist if LR starts on the wide gamut monitor.

I'm using LR 4.1 final 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit and I always use LR with a single window despite having two monitors.

LR 4.1 RC2, OSX 10.6.8 - when I'm trying to use the develop module with my second monitor, the image initially looks accurate. After a second or two and before any edits have been applied, the images desaturate and look very flat. Images viewed with the second monitor in Library module look great.

Preforming basic color correction in the develop module. Often I see an image is just a little Cyan or Red, how do you correct. The only controls are blue/yellow or magenta/green.

I gave up on using artistic media brushes because I haven't been able to fix whatever is wrong. I want to be able to use them to create hair on a portrait I'm working on.Â
I decided to try am brushes again. So, I made three custom brushes and they turned out great. I used one to draw a hair and this caused Corel to freak out. The Object Manager froze and wasn't obeying my commands.

How to make textures look great around the edges and blend nicely with the background.
Here's a sample of my problem, here's how the texture starts to look:

I can add shading in the .png file but then I can't render it properly as the shaded geometry messes up when I created the transparent background.

Today is the first day with Lightroom 3, where I have over 200 photos from an event, that I am walking through each photo. I am in the develop module and I am setting the color label to red or blue. What seems to be constantly (not every time) happening is when I click the color for the label, LR will move to the next photo, but not apply the color label.
As I write this I'm trying it out to notice a pattern. What I see is photo 1, I click on the red label and the photo is labeled red and LR moves to photo 2. I click on the red label and LR does not set any color label and moves to photo 3.

Another thing that happened is I was then at photo 3 and clicked on the blue label. LR did not set the blue label but jumped to photo 4 and put the blue label on that photo

Lightroom 5.2 I have been trieing to copy and paste settings from one .dng file into the next in the develop module. I tried to copy (shift command c) the color temperature and tint and paste in the other file (shift command v) but nor Kelvin nor green magenta balance changes.
