I'm gonna format my hard disk and I would like to back up my Photoshop Actions and Patterns created by myself before doing so. I had been to Photoshop folder and found the Actions and Patterns folders but they don't contain my own created files. What should I do?
Can anyone tell me where to locate the files which correspond to Actions which I create in CS3? I have searched my hard drive for "ATN" files and find only those which came with the program. I would like to back up these Action files and occasionally email Actions which I have created to other users.
every once in awhile i start up Photoshop and it acts like it has never been used before, all of the default windows are open, it asks me if i want to calibrate color, etc. The worst of this is that I lose of all my custom patterns and brushes that I have made.
Furthermore i can make a brush, name it "Zugzug" and close and reopen Photoshop and it is still there however when i run a search for "zugzug" on my computer it finds nothing. I have been using PS 6.0 when this was happening but recently got CS however I do not want to wait for this to happen again before i try to fix it.
Where are my custom brushes saved and why arent they saved with their names? I figure if i at least knew this it would be easier to save parts of my profile.....
I work on a networked machine and wonder if the profile is stored off of my c: drive. Is there a way to back up my 'profile'?
I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
I have been using PSE9 for awhile. Imported around 3000 photos from camera card.  I didn't realize that I should have made a copy of the original photos. Now they are stored in the Organizer along with all the changes.  How can I copy/backup the original camera photos at this late date?
My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.
I'm using PSE/PE 11 with latest updates, Win7 64bit (again, latest updates). I7 cpu w/8GB ram. When I attempt a backup of the catalog (EVEN after optimizing & reconnecting) to an internal HDD (SSD) with 188GB free - NO LUCK. Attempt  another backup to a different internal HDD with 345GB free - NO LUCK - the app says I must free up some disk space/not enough space. My catalog size from System Info shows 21.6MB but within the Backup app of Organizer, it says it is trying to backup 612,678.10MB.Â
I am trying to back up My Catalog to external hard drive.I get message "calculating total media size " it comes to 88% and then stays there for ever . I have repaired ,optimized and reconnected all missing files.I have around 30000 photos all nicely organized and tagged ,I want to back it all up to external drive without loosing all hard work on organizing them.
I shoot a Canon 5D Markiii which produces large files and take a long time to upload to my cloud backup. But when I make Lightroom changes only the XMP file changes. If I convert to DNG does that mean the entire file must be backed up whenever I make a Lightroom change?
I am getting Lightroom. I want to work out the best backup system. I keep hearing, over the years, of people backing up their photos without doing ANYTHING to them as a first backup, right out of the camera. Then they work on the photos which this first backup was taken from. Is this inherently the best way to archive photos for long term quality?
When I first installed LR4, I watched a video that said I could place my catalog on my mac's hard drive or use an external. So, all my photos are on an external. I'm trying to figure out how to backup those images, original & edited versions to another HD. Time machine to my knowledge only backsup my computer itself. I do back up my LR5 catalog upon closing it after use & it is stored in my users picture folder but my photos are all on a HD. So if my external fails, my photos will be gone
I need backing up my lightroom photos onto an external drive. I understand you need to backup both your catalog and your photos. I have been backing up my catalog to a folder on my external hard drive. Does this automatic catalog backup include presets, edits and XMPs/metadata to the photos? Â My main problem is I am super confused about backing up my photos. I have to admit I haven't done it for about 6 months since it was such a hassle last time. Here's my situation. 6 months ago I manually backed up everything I had from lightroom 3 at the time. Now, I want to back up the photos I've taken since then however I dont know how to do this without deleting my previous backup and then rebacking up everything again. If I just export my catalog into my external hardrive will that be sufficient? Also if I need to do it manually where do I even find my LR photos? Also, now I have lightroom 5 and I'm worried that if I just backup lightroom 5 then my presets and edits from lightroom 3 will not be backed up.I've heard that Microsoft Backup and Restore can automatically backup my files. How does this work? Will it automatically back up everything I need from LR (photos and all)?
I have used a pc from the 1980s and never bothered much about formally backing up relying on saving to disk for important piccies etc. I have had several computer crashes over the years and merely reinstalled all. My problem is now this: I have recently taken on the job of official film-maker for a local club and so feel I should have some formal backup in place, for fear of losing my project file mid-stream before completion! backup prog particularly for Video work? I believe the opposition incorporate a back up prog into their software but I don't want to move away from Corel.
I just wanted to know if there was anyway to have lightroom 4 backup catalogs upon launching the program instead of upon exiting? I know in previous verisons you were able to do this..
What is the best way to back up my data? Â I normal export the entire catalog about once every two months (I'm not a heavy user) to an external hard drive and the catalog file (lrcat) too. Pluse I also back up the catalog file (lrcat) about once a week to the internal hard drive.I am not sure if this is the right way to go about backing up.
I am running LR 5.0 on OS X 10.8.4 and everything was fine until a couple of days ago when I started getting this error message when backing up Lightroom. I have repeatedly restarted Lightroom, restarted my iMac, and nothing gets fixed. Do I even have a functional backup?
I have a catalog that is just under 5gb, if I navigate to the folder where it is stored and copy paste it onto my backup drive it copies in under 2 min. However, if I chose to backup my catalog on exit from inside lightroom it takes over 30 minutes (not counting testing etc). Obviously I can backup my catalog manually, but it would be nice if the built in backup feature worked like it's supposed to. Â I'm running win 7 64 lightroom 64 same probelm in 4.3 and 4.4 the catalog and lightroom are stored on a ssd drive backing up to a NAS ( my typical transfer speeds are 60-80 MB/s)
I have managed to have to re-load my Lightroom 5 catalog which unfortunately is a month out of date. During that month I changed my folder structure and whilst I can see the folders and images on my hard drive, my Lightroom 5 catalog is as it was a month ago without the new folder structure and with a lot of photos missing. Obviously the link between the images and Lightroom has been lost because I changed the folder structure without backing up the catalog. re-link my photos and album structure to Lightroom ?
I have 2 layers, a text layer on top, and a shape behind it. When I add a drop shadow to the text, the shadow shows up BEHIND the shape, instead of on it. If I choose mode "Multiply," then it shows up in front but is way too big.Â
I must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.  I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?
there are different patterns all over this graphic. And on the bottom, there are the cubes, and they sort of dissapear towards the left of the image. Is this done using the selection tool to select exactly where the patterns would go?
i had to re format my hard drive the other night, and was wondering if any fellow photoshop user was willing to save their patters and send them to me. this only really applies if u have made cool patterns of ur own i suppose.
I am trying to send a client a photoshop CS6 file whom is using CS5. He can open the file but the custom patterns are not converting even after installing the patterns.
Someone know where to find some shapes and patter for Photoshop? I'm searching for geographical shapes and floreal pattern, also other patter and shapes are good.
Does anyone know where I can download a collection of popular patterns? I mean, by myself, I already have patterns like scanlines and dots and boxes, but there are complex patterns out there that I'd like to have. Anyone know where I can get them or learn how to make them?
