I have been using PSE9 for awhile. Imported around 3000 photos from camera card.
I didn't realize that I should have made a copy of the original photos. Now they are stored in the Organizer along with all the changes.
How can I copy/backup the original camera photos at this late date?
does photoshop elements have a cloud to back up to, and if so, how is the back up done?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need backing up my lightroom photos onto an external drive. I understand you need to backup both your catalog and your photos. I have been backing up my catalog to a folder on my external hard drive. Does this automatic catalog backup include presets, edits and XMPs/metadata to the photos?
My main problem is I am super confused about backing up my photos. I have to admit I haven't done it for about 6 months since it was such a hassle last time. Here's my situation. 6 months ago I manually backed up everything I had from lightroom 3 at the time. Now, I want to back up the photos I've taken since then however I dont know how to do this without deleting my previous backup and then rebacking up everything again. If I just export my catalog into my external hardrive will that be sufficient? Also if I need to do it manually where do I even find my LR photos? Also, now I have lightroom 5 and I'm worried that if I just backup lightroom 5 then my presets and edits from lightroom 3 will not be backed up.I've heard that Microsoft Backup and Restore can automatically backup my files. How does this work? Will it automatically back up everything I need from LR (photos and all)?
I'm using PSE/PE 11 with latest updates, Win7 64bit (again, latest updates). I7 cpu w/8GB ram.
When I attempt a backup of the catalog (EVEN after optimizing & reconnecting) to an internal HDD (SSD) with 188GB free - NO LUCK. Attempt another backup to a different internal HDD with 345GB free - NO LUCK - the app says I must free up some disk space/not enough space. My catalog size from System Info shows 21.6MB but within the Backup app of Organizer, it says it is trying to backup 612,678.10MB.
I am trying to back up My Catalog to external hard drive.I get message "calculating total media size " it comes to 88% and then stays there for ever . I have repaired ,optimized and reconnected all missing files.I have around 30000 photos all nicely organized and tagged ,I want to back it all up to external drive without loosing all hard work on organizing them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have started editing photos using the Photo Fix Options in Instant Fix. I have then switched to Photo Editor to fine tune my edited picture. When I use save or save as, to save the edited picture both the edited and original appear in the files. If I start in in Photo Editor and save there is an option to uncheck that reads "Save in version set with Original" However I am more comfortable with beginning in Instant Fix and then switching to photo editor. For some reason when I go to save after switching from Instant fix to Photo editor the uncheck feature is no longer available. step by step instructions to save revised photo afterusing Instant Fix first then Photo Editor.

It seems to have started this evening. I exported files fine at file sizes of ex: 5387 kb the original size. Not they are exporting at ex: 478 kb.
View 4 Replies View RelatedExporting files to hard disk with the original item set for file type. dng file shows up on the exported directory as the cropped / edited photo and there is no sidecar file.
When I click on the history panel for this export panel, it brings the photo up in the non cropped version just as I would wish.
I did do an unclick on "embed fast load data" in preferences and then an update dng preview as the fix for the banding problems when viewing dng files in irfanview and picassa and that worked, but hope it did not create my problem described above.
How do I export all the photos I imported back to their original folder just as they were, they haven't been modified, adjusted etc. I imported them by mistake.

My question is this - if I delete a photo whilst on my laptop, on reimport into my main computer will lightroom then go and delete this photograph from my original collection as I hope it will do?

They are all jpegs and were pre-processed by a specialized image editing program before import. I now find I have to replace all 50 with new versions. I really don't want to re-do all the metadata. Is there any way to have LR overwrite the originals leaving the original metadata intact? The file names are the same.

Now I would like to send them back to the original places on my hard drive so I can import them in small batches and work on them. How can I do this without losing any images? View 28 Replies View RelatedI accidentally exported original photos in low quality (reduced size from 12MB to 600KB), as I needed to quickly (herein lays my mistake) upload them to a proofing site which requires me to reduce the quality of the images significantly. I NEVER usually do anything without backing things up, or before making a copy etc. This time however, I was in a BIG rush to get these to a client and I not only exported the original files (even though I exported to a new folder, somehow, the originals got reduced as well without me noticing), but I also deleted them from my memory card (I tried card recovery software and no luck). What I'm left with now is a folder full of low quality, useless images and no (known) way of restoring them to the original high quality (12MB) state. Here are some other details:
Program: Lightroom 2
Computer: MacBook Pro
Camera: Nikon D7100
(I only post this as I used my camera to delete the images off the memory cards...not sure if there is a way to recover via camera?)
Images no longer show in preview (yes, I deleted them from there too!)I did not back-up I tried scanning my hard-drive, memory card and external drive with recovery software (no luck)the images were on 2 memory cards and, as mentioned, I deleted them using my camera (when I ran the recovery software, only images that I originally deleted via my computer came up - which were the "did not make the cut" photos from the shoot that I deleted in Bridge - the rest of the photos, which are the ones I need, are not coming up in the scan)These images were to be used as posters, so high quality is crucial. I have recently moved my photo files to a different harddrive from their original location. Some of these images had been included in "collections" prior to the move. Now, when I open a "collection", the photo files are no longer associated with the collection. How do I reassign a location to these files in these collections?
I have already reassigned the photo files in the catalog to their new harddrive location.
"Add people" feature has never worked in Elements 11. How do I fix this? It recognizes faces in individual photos, but not in groups of photos.

New user to PSE11. Is it recommended that ALL photos be in albums or is the idea that photos in albums are a subset of the photos in folders? With all the sort and search functionality, I don't understand the benefit of albums.I name my image folders using a standard naming convention with the date embedded so it makes them rather easy to manage.

However, when I try to do it, the cursor/icon I am dragging turns into a gray circle with a gray diagonal when it reaches the Media Browser pane in the Organizer and the folder/photo is not imported into the Organizer when I "drop." When I attempt to sync photos in iTunes (to synch with my iPhone), Photoshop Elements appears in the drop down and when I select it, it finds all the "albums" in the catalog. However, when I select an album to sync, iTunes indicates 0 photos are available in the album.
I'm running photoshop elements 11, iTunes 11.0.1.12, Windows 8 Pro.
if I try to sync "all photos and albums" it still reports that there are "0 photos" available to sync.
I've tried to make new albums, which iTunes "sees" the names, but there are "0 photos" available to sync.
I've also tried to sync with a folder (file system) which works just fine.
I am using Iphoto with PSE11 but when I save the edited (JPG) image it will not let me revert to the original image. If I select the saved photo with Iphoto it will only let me re-edit it with an external editor (PSE11). This works fine but I can't "Revert to Original" in PSE11. If I try to re-edit it with Iphoto which has the "Revert to Original" button I get the message "Photo edited in an external editor so can't be edited in Iphoto. Duplicate photo to edit in Iphoto". If I do this I still cannot get back to the original unedited picture.
There is an obvious way to get round this by duplicating the original image before doing any external editor editing but there must be an automatic way which I am missing.

View 3 Replies View Relatedevery once in awhile i start up Photoshop and it acts like it has never been used before, all of the default windows are open, it asks me if i want to calibrate color, etc. The worst of this is that I lose of all my custom patterns and brushes that I have made.
Furthermore i can make a brush, name it "Zugzug" and close and reopen Photoshop and it is still there however when i run a search for "zugzug" on my computer it finds nothing. I have been using PS 6.0 when this was happening but recently got CS however I do not want to wait for this to happen again before i try to fix it.
Where are my custom brushes saved and why arent they saved with their names? I figure if i at least knew this it would be easier to save parts of my profile.....
I work on a networked machine and wonder if the profile is stored off of my c: drive. Is there a way to back up my 'profile'?
