Photoshop :: Why Is There A Discrepancy Between Image Size And That Of The Finder
Apr 26, 2013Same photo is showing smaller image size inside Photoshop than what the finder is indicating. I am using Photoshop CS6. Mac OS X v10.7.5.

View 12 Replies I've created a mono, bitmapped image approx 400px square. Then saved the file.
Â
If I go to 'get info' (I'm on an Apple Mac), it says the file size is 97k.Â
If I open the file in P'shop (CS5.5) and go to 'Image Size', it says the file is 19.2k.
I used a commercial scanning system at the local library that saved files via THE GIMP as a png file.  I saved the file to flash drive and copied to my desktop at home.  On my desktop, the file is 21.3 MB in size.Â
I load it with Photoshop CS4 and immediately save it.  The file size is now 1.6 MB. I compare the two files side by side and find that the pixel per inch are the same on both (4720X4720) and neither is compressed.   Both images appear to be identical.  What is the reason for the dramatic difference in file size?Â
I am attempting to print an artwork that is 100 cm long, however when we get the print out, we see that it is not correct to size. Instead the print out is approximately 93 cm long.
View 2 Replies View Related I run a department that cleans PDF architectural drawings in Illustrator and Photoshop for use in online documentation software. I am currently working on creating spreadsheets laying out "if plan is 1/8" = 1', scale at 'X' %", etc, as up until now it is simply done by eye, but we try to scale up or down all plans to roughly the same size. While trying to determine a scaling ratio to create these charts, I realized that when I imported the same PDF into AI, it resizes the image, where as when I import it into photoshop, it imports it at full size. For example, I took the same PDF and dropped it into AI, and it was 2108 x 2881, and when dropping into PS it was 8788 x 12007
Â
How can I import a PDF into AI and PS and have them be the same dimensions?I saved a GIF file 5,000 pixels wide, and it imported 5,000 pixels wide into both programs, so it appears I am only having this issue when working with PDF files.
A) I am using a 825 pixel x 1125 pixel, 300 dpi photo (poker card size) which shows in the 'resize window' a printed photo size of: 2.75 x 3.75 cm.
However when viewing the photo in painnet on the screen, the ruler on top, shows something totally different.
A#1) Is it correct, that the ruler displayed, needs to be ignored, as it's not actual cm or inches?
A#2) Is it correct, that the size of the photo will be the one shown in the resize window only?
(Though I have experienced a discrepancy when printing, too).
B ) On the above mentioned 825 x 1125 photo I need to place another photo.
The size of that photo is in pixels: 213 x 312 pixel, 28 dpi.
Now, when I place this smaller photo onto the poker card size,
it's displayed, as if you place a stamp onto an A4 sheet of paper,
despite of the poker size actually only being 0.75 cm wider and the height being only 0.29 cm larger on each size.
B#1) Why am I experiencing such a discrepancy?
B#2) Is this normal, as the computer screen displays it differently,
Every version of Photoshop on MAC platform before CS6 gave me a path to my image in the finder when I right-clicked or Control Clicked on the title bar. Now I get information I can easily get elsewhere and there's no intuitive way to get my path information.
Â
This is inconsistent with other CS applications as well. after saving an image it works, then if I leave the image open, click on another image, then click back to the one I just saved, the option list is different when I right click.
I'm having trouble importing images in Illustrator CS6. Dragging from finder doesn't work, nor does the "place" option. When opening an image in illustrator, all i get is a blank document.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy client gave me her logo in .EPS format, which I opened using Illustrator. The logo color was Pantone 274C. However, while working on the same EPS file in Photoshop, I realised, when I eyedropped the same color, Photoshop tells me its 2756C, and it does look duller in the workspace. I'm working in CMYK for both programs.
What could be the problem. Is there any way to solve this?
I've had both CS5 and now CS6 on a Dell i7 with an HD5770 video card and tons of memory. For some reason I can't get the same kind of results that I see others get in HDR Pro. I've watched tons of example vids and in almost every example, what shows in the preview window is what is returned back to PS after hitting ok.
Â
Not so on my computer. What my HDR looks like in the preview window is almost nothing like what it looks like when returned to PS. The contrast and exposure is usually quite different. The effect of the radius and strength sliders seems much more exagerated.
I am exporting animated gifts out of Photoshop and wondering why there is a discrepancy in the display speed of the animated gifts when viewing on an i pad compared to on the desktop.
Â
Specifically the i pad displays the gift quite a bit slower than in the desktop. so something that views on the desktop in normal speed is slower than desired on the ipad and something at the desired speed on the i pad is super fast on the desktop.
i currently have a logo that is 460X440 pixels and 12.17cmsX11.69cms and the resolution is 96 pixels per inch.
i am wanting to change it into a 2cm X 2cm avatar that is less than 6K in size,
how do i do this? everything i try makes the output file about 24k in size.
the reason i am doing this is the forum i regularly post on has a max avatar size of 6k.
I used connect to data to connect to a shapefile of parcels in NAD83 TX-SF. When I measure a specific parcel with MAPDIST or MEASUREGEOM i get 140 feet but when I check the distance in ArcGIS I get 156'. The 156' is correct. It's not just that shapefile, the conversion is consistent with other imported data. The ratio is about 1.114
I'm new to AutoCAD MAP most of my experience is with ArcGIS?
We have tested the difference between wall material take off and material part take off of the same wall.the wall consist of 20mm render, 230mm brick and 30mm tile. Both give the same result. If we join a beam with the wall however, the wall material take off will give different result than the material part take off.The wall finishes in the material part schedule are correct, the ones in the wall matrial take off are off by 53%.
Â
Please see attached file and "unjoin" the beam to the wall to see that both quantities are the same.Interestingly, the total volume of both schedules is almost identical, it is the subdivision that is completely off.
Â
When setting up the material take off manually the material part take off is correct.I suspect I do something wrong. 53% off is not even usable when doing concept.
1. How do I connect, collapse and disconnect windows (tool bar, property manager, etc.)? They get stuck together and I can't unstick them. Â
2. What's the difference between canvas size and image size? Â
3. Which tools are only for web design (i.e. tools I can ignore if I'm not doing that)? Â
4. What's the subselection tool do? Â
For Photoshop: Â
1.Why is the original layer always locked?
2. Whats the name of the property inspector in PS? And is it called inspector or manager in FW?
I'm using Photoshop 7. I create a new document 8.5 x 11 inches at 150 pixels per inch.
I draw a circle 1" from the top of the image. The circle is 3" in radius.
When I print the circle is nearly .25" smaller in radius and slightly less than 1" from the top.
Why is the output not in the same placement and proportions as the image on the screen?
I am trying to create some images in PS2 that have to be 3.5 to 4.0 mb. When viewing the Image Size screen, I might see an image size of 9.6 mb. However, when I save the image and run my mouse over the image in Bridge, it shows a size between 2 to 3 mb. I can't figure out why this discrepancy, or what math I need to do in order to figure out how to create the required image size other than by trial and error.

I have a created a new PSD that is 8 1/2 x 11.The canvas size is the same 8 1/2 x 11.I want to put a border around the picture (say 1/2 of an inch all around), and put the finished picture in a Picture frame. After it is in the frame, you would be able to see the entire picture plus the border. Q. Should I change (reduce image size) of the PSD to (for this example), 8 x 10 1/2.     Then increase the canvas size to 8 1/2 x 11. After I increased the canvas size, do a Paint Bucket fill with white (to create the White border)? then print the changed size PSD on 8 1/2 x 11 paper so that it will fit into a 8 1/2 x 11 picture frame I realize I could have just created the new PSD to be 8 x 10 1/2 in the first place.
View 5 Replies View Related When I save a file to jpeg the image size in photoshop remains the same as it was as a tiff file BUT according to the information that comes up in windows properties the file is much smaller (300k vs 2.9mg).  Can you advise me which is the correct file size?  If the correct size is the one showing in windows (300K) does mean that the file compressed in JPG and lost a lot of information?
and if this is the case how can I prevent that from happening and still save the file as a JPG?  [ I would like the image to remain the size photoshop shows it to be] . Thank you very much.
I have no previews for just PSD docs in the mac finder for a week or so now. I can see other types of doc previews. I run snow leopard on a mac book pro that is about 2 years old.
Oddly enough the trouble BEGan for me after running a normal maintenance script in ONYX (I clean the cache about once a week or so). Could be coincidence. I just installed the little "patch' from adobe but that does not work. I can see the previews in the com/4 view but in com/3, where I usually hang out, there is no preview and pressing the space bar for quick look is the same, with no preview.
When I double click on a Photoshopfile in Finder, Photoshop CS opens, but the file doesn't. It's the same when I try to open files from Quark XPress. Is there a option I have missed? Or is there something wrong with my PS? I use OSX.3 on a G4.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used Microsoft Picture It! and when I started using photoshop, I really missed somethign called the "Edge Finder Tool." The Edge Finder found the edge of something in my image so that I did not have to manually select it with the lasso.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI work with 2 different Mac Pro towers. The one at my home has Photoshop cs4 and the one at my studio has Photoshop cs6. The other day I noticed that Finder on my studio computer shows the file size to be twice as big as the finder on my home computer. The pixel dimension size doesn't change, just the file size. It shows up that way after I save it on my studio computer. If I take that file home and resave it on that computer then the Finder shows the smaller file size again. I guess the questions I have are: Is the file size is actually increasing and if so, what could be causing that to happen? Photoshop shows the files to be the same size, but in the Finder window is where I see the difference.Â

Photoshop CS5.1 (From CS5.5 Suite) AND Photoshop CS5
Â
When we open a PSD file, then save the file overwriting the previous version, the file becomes invisible. I can use Terminal to set the file to visible, but when we save it again it becomes invisible again. We were initially working on a network, but it also happens when we try to save it to the desktop. When the files are saved under a new name, or in a new location, they are visible, it's only when overwriting. We have 14 Macs working on the same network, but it's only happening on one. We tested it with the same files on another Mac overwriting on the network, and it worked fine. Files that are overwritten and become invisible are then invisible to every computer, not just the one causing the issue.
Â
This is happening with both CS5.1 and CS5.
Â
The only work around we've found is to either individually set the files to visible, or set all files to visible. We can't leave all files set to visible because several people work on each computer every day, and one of them is bound to start deleting every file that they don't know what it is...
For some reason, in CS3 I have an opening in the editing space which allows other applications, or the finder, to show through.
Â
How can I grey out that space so it isn't transparent?

I have a very simple question, for which I can find NO answer: since I upgraded my Mac OS to Lion, I can no longer grab an image -- or, most importantly, several images from several locations on my several drives -- then drag and drop them on the PS Elements 10 icon in my Dock, or on the PS Elements 10 icon in my Applications folder, and have PS Elements 10 automatically boot open, and load these images into the Editor workspace. I try it, and PS Elements 10 just sits there and refuses to open. I could do this in Snow Leopard, and I can do this in Lion with EVERY other app I have (providing I'm dragging and dropping files that the apps recognize). As I have many images in many files, this is, obvious
can a watermark stay the same size even when an image size is altered? say if its text and it gets too big when i enlarge the image how do i shrink the watermark ? when it is already merged and flattened as one picture without a separate layer.
such as a php or java script to keep the watermark distinct in a way even in a flattened pic or to select the watermark to erase it and re-apply it in the right font size back onto the resized pic?
Looking for an accurate duplicate images / photos program finder. I tried quite few but none of them were accurate.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running PS CS6 on a new 27"imac. When saving documents in CS6, the majority of times no icon is saved only the file name when viewed from the finder. Around 10% of the documents saved will have an icon, the remainder will not. This is across the board with all file types. If I open up a document through CS6 I can see the file icon in the CS6 as I search, it's just through the finder that I can't.
