Photoshop :: Discrepancy Between HDR Preview And Returned Photo?
Oct 5, 2012
I've had both CS5 and now CS6 on a Dell i7 with an HD5770 video card and tons of memory. For some reason I can't get the same kind of results that I see others get in HDR Pro. I've watched tons of example vids and in almost every example, what shows in the preview window is what is returned back to PS after hitting ok.
Not so on my computer. What my HDR looks like in the preview window is almost nothing like what it looks like when returned to PS. The contrast and exposure is usually quite different. The effect of the radius and strength sliders seems much more exagerated.

A) I am using a 825 pixel x 1125 pixel, 300 dpi photo (poker card size) which shows in the 'resize window' a printed photo size of: 2.75 x 3.75 cm.
However when viewing the photo in painnet on the screen, the ruler on top, shows something totally different.
A#1) Is it correct, that the ruler displayed, needs to be ignored, as it's not actual cm or inches?
A#2) Is it correct, that the size of the photo will be the one shown in the resize window only?
(Though I have experienced a discrepancy when printing, too).
B ) On the above mentioned 825 x 1125 photo I need to place another photo.
The size of that photo is in pixels: 213 x 312 pixel, 28 dpi.
Now, when I place this smaller photo onto the poker card size,
it's displayed, as if you place a stamp onto an A4 sheet of paper,
despite of the poker size actually only being 0.75 cm wider and the height being only 0.29 cm larger on each size.
B#1) Why am I experiencing such a discrepancy?
B#2) Is this normal, as the computer screen displays it differently,

My client gave me her logo in .EPS format, which I opened using Illustrator. The logo color was Pantone 274C. However, while working on the same EPS file in Photoshop, I realised, when I eyedropped the same color, Photoshop tells me its 2756C, and it does look duller in the workspace. I'm working in CMYK for both programs.
What could be the problem. Is there any way to solve this?

I used a commercial scanning system at the local library that saved files via THE GIMP as a png file.  I saved the file to flash drive and copied to my desktop at home.  On my desktop, the file is 21.3 MB in size.Â
I load it with Photoshop CS4 and immediately save it.  The file size is now 1.6 MB. I compare the two files side by side and find that the pixel per inch are the same on both (4720X4720) and neither is compressed.   Both images appear to be identical.  What is the reason for the dramatic difference in file size?Â

I use PS 7 and learning fast.
The default resolution when I open a photo, is set on 72 pixels per inch. This produces a photo with not a lot of detail and my previews are not the same as the end result. I have read somewhere that it is better to work on 300 dpi. Is this correct?
And if so, how do I change the default setting?
Or should one always work on 72 and occasionally change to 200-300 dpi?

I've created a mono, bitmapped image approx 400px square. Then saved the file.
If I go to 'get info' (I'm on an Apple Mac), it says the file size is 97k.
If I open the file in P'shop (CS5.5) and go to 'Image Size', it says the file is 19.2k.

I have been trying for over a week to install Elements 12 for more than a week. I keep getting error code 1500. I will return Elements 12.
I have found Adobe products to be particularly sensitive to almost any anomoly that a computer, internet connection, or software conflict creates will cause their products (many versions of Elements and Adobe Acrobat) to hickup and not work.

I am relatively new to Photoshop Elements. I followed the instructions to add a watermark to multiple photos. I am unhappy with the results and want to remove the watermark. Despite not saving my watermarked photos, I see the watermark. Is there a way to preview the watermark before anything gets permanent? Is there a way to remove the watermarks on all the photos and start all over?

I am exporting animated gifts out of Photoshop and wondering why there is a discrepancy in the display speed of the animated gifts when viewing on an i pad compared to on the desktop.
Specifically the i pad displays the gift quite a bit slower than in the desktop. so something that views on the desktop in normal speed is slower than desired on the ipad and something at the desired speed on the i pad is super fast on the desktop.

I used connect to data to connect to a shapefile of parcels in NAD83 TX-SF. When I measure a specific parcel with MAPDIST or MEASUREGEOM i get 140 feet but when I check the distance in ArcGIS I get 156'. The 156' is correct. It's not just that shapefile, the conversion is consistent with other imported data. The ratio is about 1.114
I'm new to AutoCAD MAP most of my experience is with ArcGIS?

We have tested the difference between wall material take off and material part take off of the same wall.the wall consist of 20mm render, 230mm brick and 30mm tile. Both give the same result. If we join a beam with the wall however, the wall material take off will give different result than the material part take off.The wall finishes in the material part schedule are correct, the ones in the wall matrial take off are off by 53%.
Please see attached file and "unjoin" the beam to the wall to see that both quantities are the same.Interestingly, the total volume of both schedules is almost identical, it is the subdivision that is completely off.
When setting up the material take off manually the material part take off is correct.I suspect I do something wrong. 53% off is not even usable when doing concept.

I run a department that cleans PDF architectural drawings in Illustrator and Photoshop for use in online documentation software. I am currently working on creating spreadsheets laying out "if plan is 1/8" = 1', scale at 'X' %", etc, as up until now it is simply done by eye, but we try to scale up or down all plans to roughly the same size. While trying to determine a scaling ratio to create these charts, I realized that when I imported the same PDF into AI, it resizes the image, where as when I import it into photoshop, it imports it at full size. For example, I took the same PDF and dropped it into AI, and it was 2108 x 2881, and when dropping into PS it was 8788 x 12007
How can I import a PDF into AI and PS and have them be the same dimensions?I saved a GIF file 5,000 pixels wide, and it imported 5,000 pixels wide into both programs, so it appears I am only having this issue when working with PDF files.

Explain the values of the matrix returned from the ITextFrame::GetMatrix() function (wrapper for sTextFrame->GetMatrix()). The a,b, c and d values which represent the rotation (and possibly the shear deformation) are OK,
but I can't relate the tx and ty values to the position of the text object on the artboard. As a test I tried the following code:
AIErr
CreatePointText( short paintOrder, AIArtHandle prep,
AIRealPoint *textPoint, AIArtHandle *newText)
{
AIError error;
error = sAITextFrame->NewPointText( paintOrder, prep,
kHorizontalTextOrientation,
[code]...
But the tx and ty values returned in matrix are now both 0. They should equal textPoint.h and textPoint.v, shouldn't they?

For an autocad assignment, we have been given a drawing in engineering notation (feet and inches) and have to draw it with SI units dimensions. Doing the drawing was fine, BUT, I drew it in inches and thought that I could change it to millimetres.
I have used the units command initially to set up engineering. Then after drawing returned to units to change to decimal. Dimensions turned out in inches regardless. I also tried the scale command to alter the scale, then dimension , still no luck. I went into the annotation menu got to modify primary units and alternate units and still no luck. Not even my tutorial teacher knows how to do this.

It seems that the order of symbols that I get back from sym.getComposition().getSymbols("symbolname") doesn't correspond to the order they were created or their order in the Elements table or their order in the timeline list. What determines their order in the array? How can I sort based on y position on stage or order of creation?

We are using AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 (Service Pack 2 - Version 3). This is replicable on multiple machines in multiple OS environments.
We attach a source drawing, run a query on Object Data but when that data appears in Model space it appears without any of the accompanying text for that object.
You can then execute the same query with a crossing window which brings in the surrounding objects including their text, but the original object still does not have its text. If you delete the object and re-run the query with the crossing window again, then the object appears with its text.
This is a nightmare for the users because if they want to search on a specific object, and then have to delete it to get it back with the text, they then have to search for the item in amongst all the other items. This kind of defeats the purpose of querying that object in the first place.
Is this just the way AutoCAD functions, or are we doing something wrong in our process sequence for querying the object data?

Is it possible to set up a view in CPaintX5 with identical 'live' versions of an entire image or even just an object with the purpose of being able to work on either version with them set at different zoom levels, for example a 'wide shot' and a 'big close up'. I seem to recall that older versions of PSP had this facility as standard in a toggled pair of floating tabs called Preview and Image Info or some such. (I haven't used PSP for years so I might well be remembering incorrectly). It feels like it should be such a simple thing to do but it is eluding me. Of course it would be of most use as a standard feature of the Cut Out Lab but alas, no.

A drive I kept my photos on corrupted and some of my folders of photos went missing.
I have a reasonable sized preview, I can go in and look at the image, the only difference is I can't zoom in to 1:1. I want to export the preview image from lightroom, its still better than losing the whole image.
Is there anyway to do that? the usual export throws a missing file alert.

I am unsure weather to post this in Dyn Block technical or Fields as it comprises elements of both.
I am trying to get a field to return a 'lookup properties' value...
Actually, what I am trying to do is use a field to display either a + or a - depending upon upon the state of a flip parameter.
How I have been trying to achieve that is by using a lookup table to assign:
Input Properties.....Lookup Properties
Not flipped........=............+
Flipped.............=............-
Then I'm setting a Field to look at the Object 'Lookup Parameter' and return 'Lookup Action'.
The field then displays '#########' when testing the block.
When I return to edit the field it complains 'the object referenced y the field has been erased'. Both the table and parameter are still there, so I don't know what the problem is. Is there a better way of having a field return a specific value based upon a parameter state?

I have a 2 point LWPOLYLINE that has the following coordinates at its end point when I 'ID' the point.
Command: id
Specify point: end
of X = 709369.3214 Y = 7153039.9690 Z = 269.2143
However if I use..
(vlax-safearray->list (vlax-variant-value (vla-get-coordinates (vlax-ename->vla-object (car (entsel))))))
I get this
(-450567.0 269.288 -450570.0 269.214)
and if I 'dump' the object..
; Coordinates = (-450567.0 269.288 -450570.0 269.214)
; Document (RO) = #<VLA-OBJECT IAcadDocument 09855674>
; Elevation = 7.17399e+006
I don't have a clue where the '-450567.0' is coming from.
I'm in Model Space in 'World' UCS, and I'm confused.. why does the 'ID'd' value not reflect whats going on when I use the vla-get-coordinates approach.
There are many other LWPolylines within the same model that behave normally.
I've attached the drawing (I think!)

Having problems with the updated new file dialog and I'm not talking personal problems. I switched it to detail view and widened up the name column so I could see the whole name. I could actually live with that setup however the next time I opened the new file dialog all the columns returned to their default size and the sort also reverted.
Is it just me or does the new file dialog not remember any changes to it's layout?

A feature notably absent from the Oil Paint filter is any way to temporarily disable the effect (e.g., not preview it).I happen to like using Oil Paint to make refllections in the surface of water smoother and more "liquid" (which involves turning off the "Shine"), and it would really be nice if I could easily gauge the amount of the effect easily by blinking back and forth between original and processed image with a quick "disable preview" functionality.
With most standard filters, one can either uncheck a [ ] Preview box, and/or click the mouse button down on the image to temporarily show what the image is like without the effect.Yes, I know I can turn the Stylization down to 0.1 and see how a very minimal amount of the effect can be applied. And I can look at the original image in Photoshop proper, but of course that can't be zoomed while the Oil Paint filter is active.
Also, the zooming / panning seems kind of stiffly implemented. In summary, the more or less standard and expected filter features I'd like to see added to this (new class of) GPU-accelerated filters are:Preview/No Preview capability. It doesn't have to update Photoshop, just the preview display in the filter itself. I suggest a [ ] Preview checkbox and/or an on-mouse-click temporary effect disable.
Modal click and drag Zooming vs. Panning - i.e., based on a Zoom or Pan function selected (e.g., via an icon along the left) vs. having to hold modifier keys down. I personally would want it set to Zoom by default, not Pan. Since the filter has scroll bars (a Good Thing), I would have thought Zoom would have been a better default as it is. I have implemented these things in my own GPU-accelerated plug-ins, so I know that all the infrastructure Adobe needs to support them is already in there. These changes are controls only and should be trivial to implement.

I recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.
Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft. The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:
Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview. The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:
Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.
This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import). Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.
This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.
