Photoshop :: Why ACR 7.3 Open JPG With Different Dimensions Than 13.0.1 X64
Jan 13, 2013
I have a .jpg file that opens in Photoshop 13.0.1 x64 as an image with dimensions of 5588 x 4627 pixels. If I set Photoshop to open it in ACR 7.3 it opens with dimensions 4453 x 4418 with the image looking squished horizontally and cropped at the top.
I captured the image on a Nikon D600. I developed the NEF with DxO Optics Pro 8.1.1 and output a TIFF. I opened the TIFF in Photoshop (without using ACR) and did my editing including some transformation to create mirrored wrap for a canvas. There are versions saved as PSDs. I resized the image for output and used PS to create a JPG. That JPG causes the strange (to me) behavior when Photoshop tries to open the file.
I used the same PSD to create multiple JPGs with differing levels of quality (varyiing from 9MB to 27MB). Photoshop exhibits the same behavior on all of them.If I process the JPG thruough ACR, the resultant image retains the bad dimensions and distortions. The Adobe "chat" preresentative said this was expected behavior in a 2+ hour chat. He/she said that they were able to replicate the different dimensions on their end with their images.

I was adding a lot of aligned dimensions to a drawing and some where along the way they changed from aligned dimensions to rotated dimensions, even in the same string of dimensions.

I typically as much as possible like to insert my dimensions into my drawing from my model.
I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.

Also be sure to pick the 'aligned dimension' method and not the 'linear dimension'. I hope that works in Revit as it does in AutoCAD.

I am working with the latest versions of Photoshop, Lightroom & ACR. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the links to Photoshop from Lightroom were all grayed out. for example when I right click on an image and select "Open With," it and all of the rest of the links to Photoshop are grayed out and inaccessable. I have been using Photoshop since v2 ansd Lightroom since v1. My operating system in Win 7.
Uninstall and reinstall Photoshop to reestablish the links. I spent about two hours doing that yesterday. when I was done the links were back and functional. I left the compluter on all night to make sure everything was backed up. This morning I opened Lightroom (64bit) and attempted to open an image in Photoshop for editing. All of the links were grayed out again.
So today I uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom.

Using PS CS6 on Mac running Mt. Lion. When I am in Bridge and I choose OPEN, then the picture is opened in the PS application that shows in the dock or in PS that may already be opened. If, however, I choose OPEN WITH and choose either Adobe Photoshop CS6 (default) or Adobe Photoshop CS6, a second Photoshop application appears in the dock and then opens.

I opened a jpg image in PS CS2, and opened the Image size panel. I found the following: Width 2304 px., height 1728 px., doc size 32" x 24" at 72 px/in, and Pixel Dimensions 11.4M.
Can anyone explain the relationship of the pixel dimensions to the other data, i.e., how the pixel dimensions are calculated.

which dimensions of new psd document do you take when creating in photoshop (montage, editing,...)
I know it depends on if the work is designed for web or print, but let's say it's for both..

Somehow my pixel dimensions and document dimensions have become locked and when I try to crop an image the cropped dimensions remain in the same proportions of width to height as the original. There are little symbols and brackets to the right of both pixels and inches. I don't know how to remove these. I am using an antiquated version of Photoshop Elements - version 2.0 on a Mac running 10.4.11.

Using CS6. When I open a new file I get a small white canvas upon which to draw. This is 16.02cm x 11.99cm. These seem odd values to pick for a default. Is there a reason for it?
I wish to change this default size as I find it inconveniently small for my drawing work with the pen tool. Before I do this I'd feel better if I understood the thinking behind the original default dimensions.

I am having problems with the cropping tool, Working with a fine art 800dpi 16 bit scan and I want to create an accurate crop to keyed in dimensions, in this case 12 cm x 12cm. Everything I try to key in the width and height dimensions, leaving resolution blank, I get varying results.
Either the crop box just sticks to the original scan size which is bigger or is not drawing to 12 x 12cm, usually smaller when I check off against rulers, despite keying in 12 x 12cm! Erratic results for any other dimensions I type in when I view against rulers. Tried clearing in case settings are sticky but to no avail. Can do this all day long in Elements 11 with consistent results. Tried everything in CS 6.

I took some shots yesterday with my iPod Touch Fifth Geration and Adobe Bridge (of just by clicking on the file in Finder) shows the file size of the jpeg files at about 2.33 megs with dimensions of 1936 x 2592 or 26.9 x 36.0, 72 ppi. When I open the file in Adobe Photoshop CC, the file size is 14.4 megs with the same dimensions.
Why is there such a difference in file size?
And, after I work on the file in Photoshop and save it again AS A TIFF IMAGE without changing dimensions, but doing some work with NIK filters, Adobe Bridge now shows the new file at 14.39 megs. I know that TIFF takes up more file size than jpeg, but is there that much of a difference in file size?

I want to use the crop tool to edit my image - I want the crop tool to maintain the image dimensions (i.e. 4x6), BUT I don't want the image to be resampled. All I see with the crop tool is that if I want the size to be constrained, it makes me pick a specific size, not an aspect ratio.
For example, if I say 4 inches by 6 inches and crop a very small section of my image, it will crop it, but then resample it and blow it up to a 4 inch by 6 inch photo. I really just want the ratio to be maintained. 4x6.

I have used a template in Photoshop CS2 to create a DVD/CD Cover and I have an issue saving the image for upload at the correct dimensions.
This is what I have - CD cover @ 4.75 x 4.75 inch with 300dpi. This gives me an image with a resolution of around 3000 x 3000 pixels.(approx)
There is no problem printing from PS as the dimensions in Inches is the default print size. The problem comes when I export the image as a JPEG ready for upload and sharing. It seems the pixel resolution becomes the default size settings. This will give the end users problems in printing at the correct size for their CD cases.
I, can get round this as my printer allows me to 'print at the original size' which defaults back to the size set in Inches but I don't think everyone has this option.
Is there any way to ensure that the end user will d/l or save the uploaded image at the correct size so that they will not have to do anything other than print it?
The last thing a want to do is make it a difficult thing for them to obtain.
FYI - I would like to keep the dpi resolution if possible as there is a lot going on and this might be lost if the quality is reduced.

I have a number of HTML pages with similar designs that each need to be sliced up by exactly the same dimensions so I can just pop in new path names into the same HTML template.
Is it possible to save slices like pattern or brush sets where I can load them into a new document? I've been looking for a feature similar to this and can't seem to find anything that is helpful in Imageready, anyone have any ideas?
