first post on the board and i have a simple question. how do lock the height and width numbers to maintain scale? like say i wanted to use a file that is 2x4 and i wanted to change the height to 8, then i would also like the width to automatically change to 4 for me.

is there a way to lock the dimensions to aligned dimensions...or a key i could hold while dimensioning that would do that..
i have to dimensions a drawing where theres a lot of aligned dimensions to put and to do it manualy each time takes forever...

I'm adding wall type tags and moving dimension objects (leaders, mostly) around in a plan. Occasionally, maybe 2-3 times an hour, text objects and dimension objects suddenly cannot be moved. When I try to move them, they disappear, and upon Regen they reappear in their original position. AutoCAD does not crash- everything else is fine. I have to close and reopen the drawing to regain the ability to move text and dimension objects. Audit sometimes finds and corrects problems, sometimes not, but either way it seems to have no effect on the problem. My Autosave is set to 30 minutes- probably not a factor, but who knows.

Half way through it saves itself, then reverts back to it's original state and saves again. (This is to get the displacment map out of the same file)
What I want is this:
The file will be locked so no-one can mess with it, then I want an Applescript action (or whatever) to launch and unlock it, then when the Photoshop actions finish for another one to Lock it again so when a designer comes to save the file, he is forces to Save As. This will stop the original from being overwritten!
Is it possible Apply on the lock file Not open to other systems?

Is it Possible to lock it using Coding? Or CAN we disable the Command "DWGPROPS" of AUTOCAD into AutoCAD?
Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom work?

the basic reason for that is because i will be putting a company logo on each file. So no one should not be able to remove that logo from the file i have created!
I've got a problem following playing around (Typical, isn't it?). Architecture 2011 allows editing property sets from external objects through the host drawing (i.e. change a room number of a property set attached to a space xref'ed in from another construct). This obviously has to put an editing lock onto the xref to prevent data loss in case somebody else works on the xref in the meantime. This editing lock is removed when I close my host drawing. However, the lock is immediately restored when I re-open the host drawing.
How can I release the xref file lock again after editing the property sets in my host drawing?
I took some shots yesterday with my iPod Touch Fifth Geration and Adobe Bridge (of just by clicking on the file in Finder) shows the file size of the jpeg files at about 2.33 megs with dimensions of 1936 x 2592 or 26.9 x 36.0, 72 ppi. When I open the file in Adobe Photoshop CC, the file size is 14.4 megs with the same dimensions.
Why is there such a difference in file size?
And, after I work on the file in Photoshop and save it again AS A TIFF IMAGE without changing dimensions, but doing some work with NIK filters, Adobe Bridge now shows the new file at 14.39 megs. I know that TIFF takes up more file size than jpeg, but is there that much of a difference in file size?
I take photos in raw and jpeg. My raw files have the dimensions 3:4 and jpeg have 2:3. However when I use camera raw, the dimension of the raw file is changed to2:3 which causes me to loose part of the picture. If I save the raw file to tif and open in elements I get 3:4 but then I can not edit in Camera raw! I have a canon powershot g12 and photoshop elements 11.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am preparing images for the web and I really have 2 questions: one about gifs, and one about jpgs.My standard procedure is to reduce the image to the desired pixel dimensions at 600 dpiThat gives me a crisp small image. then I either use it as is if the file size is low enough (I try for under 600 kb) or convert it to a gif with the save for web and devices tool.
So here are my 2 questions (I will count this solved with either answer)
1) When I convert to a gif I have the 4 boxes: one with original size, the other 3 with options but often the options are too low res for me How do I change my 3 options to start at a higher gif res?
2) If I try to reduce the file size of the jpg in the image size box I set the resolution lower ( 400, 300), which lowers the pixel dimensions and the filesize, but I don't want to cahnge the pixel dimensions. And If I reset the pixel dimensions back to the size I want them, even though it is a lower resolution the file size doesn't change.
How to reduce jpg file size using only the resolution, not pixel dimensions? PS I have tried messing with checking and unchecking the 3 little boxes( scale styles, constrain proportions, and resample) but nothing has worked.
Using Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7. How do I get a photo file (jpg) to print at specific dimensions? View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm creating an animation in AE eventually but initially have two hand drawn images of the same object that I've scanned into PS.
I have a single mask created that I turn into a selection to copy the two images to output as new single files to then import as 2 frame png sequence into AE.
Normally, and this is critical, the dimension of the new files would/should be exactly the same. But they're not! How is this possible, the selection is the same for both layers.
I'm creating a logo for a newspaper ad for an attorney. It would be very easy to create by itself, but the damn dimensions keep changing.
Whenever I try and create a new file W 2.646 " x H 2.895 " it changes W to 2.458 " which I DO NOT WANT and the image cannot be used unless the width is correct.
This is really frustrating and I was wondering if there was ANY way I can turn this dumb thing off. I want EXACT dimensions and it keeps changing it.
I am trying to create a PDF/X-1a that is exactly the size (dimensions) of the .xcf file (15x12in.). There are two ways to do this that I have found at this point. Export does save the correct size, but I can't find a way to change to the x-1a format, or print to PDF which does save the correct format but doesn't save the correct size. When printing to PDF I go into Preferences>Adobe PDF Settings and change the Default Settings to PDF/X-1a and change the Adobe PDF Page Size to 15x12 (custom created page size). When it prints the PDF ends up as an 8 1/2 X 11 file.
Two notes:
1. When I go to Page Setup in Gimp I cannot set a custom page size .
2. The only reason I need the X-1a format is because when I export to a standard PDF the ink density for the black goes above the 240% limit that I need for the printers. If I could find a way to get the ink density results I need without saving in the X-1a format it would be just as good.
This is my work scenario. I shoot on Cannon 50D in raw (15 mp). Upload the images to computer and import to Lightroom. I make my adjustmenst in Lightroom and many images I pull from Lightroom into Photoshop CS5 and do additional artistic touches there. I save from Photoshop so that it re-opens it back in Lightroom with my Photoshop adjustments. After I have done this with all of my images I then export the images my clients select for their purchased disc. This where I am concerned...
What I know had once started out as large raw files are quite small by the dimension size, average approximate dimensions are 4750x3170. File settings are set to quality 100 and under Image Sizing I do not have 'resize to fit' checked. On occasion I have used the crop feature in Lightroom but not on many images and all of my images are small not just certain ones.
I am fairly new to Lightroom but nervous about using it right now. I am actually postponing editing a new session until I can get some clear answers or I may just have to tackle the whole session in Photoshop like I used to because I will at least know that file sizes will not decrease in size.
I have an assembly of pallet racking, it is one complete frame which can be modified in all the desired ways by the ilogic i have in place. I wish to be able to put this frame into a new assembly but have different dimensions for each frame. I used to do this by copying all the files to a new folder so that each frame had its own parts. This has stopped working and now once one frame is altered all the other frames change to rather than having there own dimensions.

I'm importing an avi file (from Poser 9) into AE 5.5. The dimensions are 1200x900. There need to be 48 copies of the avi movie running at the same time behind a mask made of circles on a grid. (If you've ever seen the Coca-Cola commercials from the 90's where all the disks had animations on them, "La la la lala, always Coca-Cola..." think of that design.) The problem is that each copy of the avi needs to be 150x150 in order for it to work.
how to reduce the FILE size, not the literal physical dimensions of the movie clip.
I received a stp.file from a vendor and need to add shrink to the file. How do edit the file? Also, once the shrink is added I need to be able to make a split mold out of the part. How would I go about do that? I should be able to make a block; then cut the part out of the block. Is that correct?

I create Layout using Inventor, save the file into AUTOCAD DWG format,and then load it to AutoCad. After I open it, the predetermine dimensions (which I select to display the dimension in Inventor) are right. However, the dimension goes wrong if I do a new measurement on the Layout using Autocad. I have an image received from a client in .eps format. I need to get it into either a .gif or .jpg format AND the final file MUST be .8 inches x .3 inces, AND no more than 10K in size. How can I save it with these dimensions/constraints and not lose resolution? What I have tried - export to .jpg (file is 5 inches x 3 inches), export and change resolution to 100ppi (image is nearly the right dimensions, but blurry). I have an AI, vector based, logo that I'm trying to fit onto a business card template. The logo is primarily text, with a circle surrounding one of the letters. The circle has a stroke that narrows on the right hand side to a tiny sliver. I am selecting all three layers (the top line of text, bottom line of text, and the surrounding circle), holding down the shift key to preserve the proportions, and grabbing the little box in the bottom corner to shrink the whole selection. As I make the selection smaller, the surrounding circle around one of the letters becomes fatter, changing the look of the logo. How do I correctly make the logo smaller, without converting it to a PDF or JPEG?

I have attached a drawing demonstrating my problem. The square is 12' x 12''. Everytime the file is opened DIM SCALE LINEAR is multiplied increasing all dimensions by the multiplier. It does this each time the file is opened.
You can right click remove overrides on the dimension to get it to appear correctly (I don;t have any overides the software is overiding on open.
I was adding a lot of aligned dimensions to a drawing and some where along the way they changed from aligned dimensions to rotated dimensions, even in the same string of dimensions.

I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.
