Photoshop :: Stroke Changes The Color Inside As Well
Nov 20, 2006
When i go to stroke a shape ( for example a cartoon head) once its stroked in changes the inside colour as well. It used to be fine but now it is doing this and i dont know why.
I'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.
When i apply an inside stroke with transparency to a layer, the opacity seems to cause a knock-out effect on the layer itself rather than applying the transparent stroke.
How do i apply a semi transparent inside stroke without making the object it's applied to become transparent rather than the stroke itself?
I have a bent path, standard 90 degree corner. Illustrator CC is not allowing me to align the stroke to the inside of the path/corner. The inside and outside options are grayed out when this path is selected.
Of course, I can create a shape and then all three options for path alignment are usable. But if I cut a gap into the path of that shape it instantly reverts to a center aligned stroke. I can create what I need manually. But this is a time addition.
I'm working on a poster and for a special printing process am supposed to add a 2 point inside stroke to the type. However, Illustrator has that option grayed out in the appearance panel when I try to add it to the type even when I create outlines.
I'm having trouble making adjustments to my compound path/shape, as I'd like to outline the inside of the shape with a stroke - but this doesn't seem possible as the stroke always surrounds the outside too.
So: I've got a simple rectangle with white fill, with a rectangle-window hole cut out of it using the compound path action so you can see the layers beneath. Now I want to stroke the window hole, but NOT the outside of the entire rectangle. I'd be happy to split the shape up and tried various options like divide, edit in isolation mode, expand (button is greyed out), all the pathfinders - but none of them allow me to do this only to the inside part of the path.
How I can perform this action? I'm working in CS5 and CS6.
I'm pretty new to Illustrator so there's a chance this is a stupid question, but I'm pretty stumped on this. If I have a path with a stroke that is set to either inside or outside, it disappears if I draw something inside of it to convert it into a clipping mask. The stroke shows up again if I align it to center, but even this seems to have some quirks as it won't display multiple strokes. After searching the web for a bit this is the best description/example I've been able to find for this problem:

Anyside strokes or multiple strokes to work correctly in this scenario? If not, is there a logical reason for this or is there a bug?
I'm trying to add a stroke that's aligned to the outside of my path. It appears to be offsetting the stroke *and* moving anchor points at the same time. It does the same kind of thing when I align the stroke to the inside. It is fine when i align the stroke to center. The one that is offset to the top-left is the align-inside one.
I've got some letters with a black inside stroke. These are 3D letters, therefore the stroke must be in the inside otherwise it spills out the edges if I put it outside or centered.
I've tried adjusting the cap/limit and all other options on the stroke menu without luck How can I fix these corner errors? I'm on Illustrator CS5.
--Toolbox: The 2 columns of Tools on the left side of the Editor screen.
--Foreground Color & Background Color: The color filled squares at the bottom of the Toolbox.
--Color dialogue box: This is the pop-up that is labeled at the top with "Color". It shows 48 different color squares (6 rows by 8 columns); they are labeled "Basic colors:". Right below the "Basic colors:" array is another 16 empty squares (2 rows by 8 columns) to be filled with colors to be defined. There is a "Define Custom Colors>>" button when clicked opens up a color picker with HSB RGB stacked below the color field screen. See this link to the Microsoft "Color Dialogue Box", [URL]
--Adobe Color Picker: The interactive dialogue box with the color field screen to the left and the HSB RGB numbers stacked on the right side.

The problem:In PSE 10, when using the Eyedropper Tool or clicking on the Foreground Color or the Background Color, the Microsoft Microsoft "Color Dialogue Box" pops up instead of the "Adobe Color Picker" dialogue box. This started about a month ago. I use Windows 7.
I want the "Adobe Color Picker" to pop up (like it used to) inside PSE 10.
There are many examples of creating rectangular patterns, but not many, if any, of interrogating existing patterns.I have attached the files and a screenshot of a rectangular part inside an assembly. The part contains a rectangular pattern of holes and workplanes.how do I get hold of each proxy of the workplane in the pattern? In other words I don't know what to put in the for loop at the end of this code fragment:
If _invApp.Documents.Count = 0 Then MsgBox("Need to open an the assembly document") ReturnEnd If If _invApp.ActiveDocument.DocumentType <> DocumentTypeEnum.kAssemblyDocumentObject Then MsgBox("Need to have an Assembly document active") ReturnEnd If Dim asmDoc As Assembly Document asmDoc = _invApp.ActiveDocument Dim asmDef As AssemblyComponentDefinition asmDef = asmDoc.ComponentDefinition im occurrences As ComponentOccurrencesoccurrences. I have a question regarding illustrator. Let's say I have a circle with blue fill and red stroke. And I place an image in the illustrator file. Now I want to change the red stroke of my circle to let's say a purple color by sampling the color from the image.
How can I achieve that with a eye dropper tool? Every time when I try to sample a color from the image, the whole circle will change to purple instead of just the stroke? I have tried multiple key combination, shift, alt, ctrl but they all don't work.
I have a file with two squares with red and blue fill colors respectively and transparent surrounding strokes. I'm trying to find a way to automatically set the stroke color of each square to the respective fill color. Is there an Illustrator script somewhere that would achieve that? I am not aware of an internal Illustrator command for this purpose.
have these two buttons here. As per the client requirement, the icons should have a different green and red color. I do have the RGB details for it but unfortunately, I don't know how to change the color for these buttons in Photoshop.
I opened Photoshop just now and found out that, while using pen tool, the Stroke color & its size isn't working at all. I cannot select them, even hovering don't work at all. It's totally inactive. Yesterday it's working fine, but today it's not.
I have a car image.. but I need to copy it out and into the bunch of circles. And the circles... oh boy. I tried using the Elliptical Marquee tool and made some circles... well it didnt work... I need a bunch of overlaping circles that dont look all too special, but have nice colors and when the overlap some kind of mixing color or effect.
Then I would like the picture of the car to be put in the bunch of circles, make the car colored opposite to the color the part is in. Like a wheel is in a blue circle... the wheel will be yellow etc.
Also I would like the page set-up to be the size a printable page is... so What is the # of pixels I should set it too for the best Printable Paper page ( standard size paper) PPS:
Also If I have a Image and I want to fill the background a center color..
I have an open path in Photoshop CS4. When I go to stroke the path, Photoshop makes a stroke that closes the path from end to end. I want to stroke just the path with a specified stroke width in a specific color.
re: NEW color picker stroke color not updating in real time (previewing).
Is it me or has the stroke color preview been removed in CS6 or is there a setting that needs to be changed to enable it?
The problem: When I create a shape layer, press enter and then chose a stroke color from the color picker, I select a color but it doesn't update the stroke color until I press enter. I'm sure it used to change in real time as you clicked on the color picker panel before accepting it.
Further update: This is when creating a shape but using the new stroke feature in the properties bar at the top (the one which gives you the new fancy options like having a dashed, transparent or gradient stroke) and not the traditional method of adding it as an effect. This still shows a real time update, but the new method doesn't.
I see two icons (essentially a dot and a rectangle) inside my color fill indicator at the bottom of my screen. I can get the dot to appear in objects I create by "combining" but cannot get the rectangle to replicate in any created object. These are in an imported file. What do they mean?
in control bar, far left color pull down, I can change fill but AI will not "let" me select the stroke to change that. Is there a trick AI now requires?
Used to be X would pick the other one; if fill was front, X would make Stroke be front and vice versa.
If I wanted to change an objects stroke (outline) color for just part of the object, what would be the best way to go about that. Pro tip: Paint bucket tool in photoshop != the best way... it gets all pixel.
I've imported a ribbon banner where I will enter the text for a name within the borders of the ribbon banner later. I can adjust the line width of the ribbon banner outline and the color of the banner outline without problems. I want the outline of the banner to be one color and the interior of the banner to be another...how do I color fill the inside of the banner?
A few years ago I learned in school the usefullness of global color. I used it today and it was very usefull to quickly change the color of a lot of different objects at the same time.
HOWEVER; I remember they also tought me that it was also possible to change the brightness or shading or something inside one global color.
for example lets say I picked a red as a global color, and I have 10 objects all in that red. Then it should be possible to let 5 of those objects have a lighter version of that red color.
Then afterwards when I change my global color to green, all the objects change to green, and those 5 objects now have a lighter green color.
Am i remembering this correctly, and if so; how do I apply this? Because I cannot figure it out...
I'm working on this study and I need to change the color of an object inside a symbol when I click another object.
The object is called "bola", wich is inside the symbol "ponto" and the clicking object are the colored pencils (each pencil should change the color of the symbol's object, giving the impression you'd selecting a different pencil to draw).
I think it's simple to understand what I mean when you see the files.
I already tried this line on click event of the pencils, but it didn't work:
I seem to come unstuck when I apply colour using the 'Stroke Path' option. Basically I need to know if there's a way of determining the opacity of the stroke line? In some cases I don't need to have such a 'dense' colour. I want to see a little of what I've 'painted over' so as to keep some of the detail.
I need a fast method (Keyboard shortcut) to change stroke color to a specific color. Since I need to set it always to the same color. I'd like to skip the procedure of having to repeatedly pick red from the palette and simply have red chosen automatically using one click only. I tried recording an action, hoping I would later be able to assign it a shortcut but oddly when an action that records the setting of stroke color is played, it sets the FILL color to that choice color and instead of setting the stroke color (with which it was recorded).
Everytime I set the fill/stroke color of objects in a file to 75, 68,67, 90 it resets it to 0, 0, 0, 100. It isn't consistent though... some objects accept the color.
