Photoshop :: Rotating Brush Texture
May 25, 2006
Is there any way to get a brush texture to rotate as you use it? I was messing around with the grass brushes and I thought it'd be nice if there was some way to get them to rotate around in a circle, like if I wanted to add some grass looking stuff to a wreath.
I can't think of a way you could easily define how fast it rotates or anything like that but it'd be nice if there was a way to do it. The only way I've thought of so far is drawing the grass in a straight line and then using the polar coordinate filter to turn it into a circle.

I know that you can paintbucket patterns and from what I last remembered, you could do the same thing with the paintbrush, but in CS2 I can't quite figure it out. Basically, what I want to do, is be able to use the paintbrush to paint my own textures. I would like to select a textural area of a pictures, create a texture from that, and then paint it where ever.

I was using the "texture" feature under the brush options, under "brush tip shape" to get a pencil type texture. I've turned it on and off to color stuff and anyway, now it won't seem to turn back "on".
I've attached this image so hopefully you can see the texture. It's not a custom brush or anything. Just the basic default PS brush with "texture" chosen, now it's just a smooth line.

(I've tried restarting my Mac and installed a "patch")Â

I want to paint texture into an image without adding or changing color.
The best way to explain my goal is to visit this website with very fine work by Mark Wainer.
[URL]....
My own website is [URL]...
He has used Buzz, as have I, to change photos into watercolor like images, now defunct and taken over by Topaz software, who now market Simplify in place of BUZZ.
After running the filter, he has added brush strokes to add texture without altering any color—just adding a texture looking like impasto or thick brush strokes.
I have searched everywhere and view lots of video but cannot find a technique to get the result I want.
I am sure there is way to do this, probably with brushes in CS6 and unable to find or create a way to achieve this effect.

I just realized that brush presets won't save a brushes texture which is slightly annoying. I'm in CS6 btw and I'm familiar with photoshop which is why I'm posting here.
Â
For example I have two brushes, a watercolor one (with texture turned on in the brushes panel to the watercolor background texture) I save it as a tool preset (I'm not making the saving as a brush preset mistake). I go make a paintbrush brush with a different background texture and save it as a tool preset. When I go use the watercolor brush it has the paintbrush background texture and NOT the watercolor.
Â
I never touched the texture property until lately so I'm not sure if this has always been this way...
Â
Is there some way to save that property or do I manually have to go and change it each time. I want to be able to share my brushes. Do I have to instruct people on which texture to use?

I am sure that in the past Texture settings saved when I loaded a saved Art History Brush tool preset. But suddenly, the Texture setting - specifically Depth, is not being remembered. In other words - I have saved an Art History Brush as a Tool Preset. I have then used some other brushes and experimented with texture including the Depth setting. When I go back to the saved tool preset, the Texture Depth setting has changed to whatever it was when I last used it - not its saved value. I thought the point of Tool Presets is that they save all brush characteristics.Â
I'm using CS6. The tool presets and their Texture attributes work fine in CS5. Maybe I need to reinstall CS6.

For my 3D scene, I have to use a texture file on the floor. If I use the only file, than it looks really boring and below par. What I want is, I want to generate some (around 6-8) texture files within the original texture file - so the colors of all the texture files remain same but only the texture varies.Likewise there are more than 500 texture files and I just can't do them manually. Is there any way out to do this in Photoshop?

I have a lava texture and a ground texture. I'd like to be able to make some cracks on the ground texture that would show through the lava texture below it. Something like a cracked mud look. I would be using this for a game I'm making form some terrain textures. Are there any plugins that would aid in making these transparent cracks and perhaps even add depth to the cracks?
I guess a spider web where the spider was on crack would be something I'm looking for. Similar to the following image:

you can see what i mean in the following picture examples.
Â
Selecting a brush (any 1 pixel) brush
Â
[URL]........
shows my selection . Drawing a straight line
Â
[URL]........
Â
Zooming in to the line (600%) you can see i can draw a marquee through half of it ...
Â
[URL].........
Â
No matter what 1 single pixel brush i use this will happen... no matter which computer i use cs6 on and different copies of the installation.  Anyway have any insight into this? frankly... it's somewhat limiting that i can't use the brush for stroking a shape if i need a pixel line and yet soft curves that a pencil won't get you.Â

There are a few things I just don't get about brush settings. Sometimes it seems my brushes go all wonky.
Â
When I change the settings for 1 brush... say I add some jitter to a smooth brush - then suddenly the other brushes get the same jitter applied to them.
Â
How can I set the brushes so that each brush has a different setting that doesn't change when I change any other brush settings?
Â
p.s. I also don't get why Adobe has you lock a brush by UNlocking it? Seems to me it should be the other way around?

I have contacted Adobe about issues with Photoshop brushes recently. My issue is that the brush size is smaller than the circle that represents the brush. In other words, when I hoover over the area that I want to paint or erase with the circle and then click, the painted or erased area is smaller that the circle. It's really frustrating when fine tuning an image, you never know how close you are to what you want to correct. This is only visible when you zoom in quit a bit. I worked with an Adobe tech for over an hour and he could not simulate the problem. Then he finally asked if I was using a retina display, (he was not).Â

I'm using Photoshop Elements 2.0 I also have Photoshop 6.0
I'm trying to learn how to rotate a .jpeg photo without it losing proportion. I have a photo of a Santa that I carved and took the photo with the camera turned 90°. I'd like to rotate the photo so I can use it as an Avatar on a forum I'm in. However, when I rotate the photo 90° the image becomes narrower and longer. I'd like to retain the original proportion but don't know how to do this.

Photoshop (I use CS1) is taking photos that have been saved vertically and opening them horizontally. If I rotate the photo back to vertical and save it again and then try to re-open it, it's horizontal again. Opening these same files with other image viewers and browsers shows that they are clearly vertical, yet PS continues to open them horizontally. I've been using Photoshop for years and never had this problem until the past couple of days, so I'm totally baffled. It's not like I just installed it. It's been working fine and never had this problem before yesterday. It also isn't doing it on older photos that I've saved, it's only new photos that I've saved in the past couple of days, so obviously it's doing something when I'm saving them that's causing it to rotate them automatically when re-opened.
When I try to open these exact same photos on my other comuter that has an older version of PS (7.0) this problem doesn't occur -- the photos are vertical, just as they should be.

I'm trying to flip and rotate a selection in Photoshop but it doesn't seem to be working. Here's what I'm doing:
1) Select what I want to flip/rotate.
2) Go to Select -> Transform Selection
3) Go to Edit -> Transform Path -> Flip Horizontal/Vertical or one of the rotate options.
4) Choose another tool so that it can ask me if I want to apply the transformation.
5) Say yes.
But at this point nothing happens to my selection. When rotating, I notice that the selection box itself gets transformed, but not the contents selected. How do I actually transform the contents?

I'd like to rotate an image or selection just a bit to have a better ability to draw on it in Photoshop. However if I rotate it with the handles or rotate 90 degrees or whatever it changes the image and I'd like it to return in normal position after I'm finished drawing. I do not want the image to be rotated in the end, I only want to be able to draw at specific places and therefore it needs to be rotated.

how could I rotate a layer of many in a file to align it with the other layers ? To be clear, I am an astrophotographer & what I am doing is using the "Difference" mode to align layers. But the pictures are slightly rotated & I want to be able to rotate them very little to align the stars at the corners & those that are radially outwards from the center.

When I use the healing brush is tends to "skip". It leaves a line of circles like a stamp would instead of a flowing line like it should leave. No matter how slow I move the brush it leaves a circle and then as I continue to draw nothing happens until I reach the edge of the first circle, it then drops another circle and it continues that way as long as I draw with it.  The brush tool works fine, leaves a smooth line. The Spot Healing and Patch Tool work fine but the healing brush will not heal in a smooth stroke. It skips along a leaves a tail of circles the size of the brush. I am using a fast computer, i7 processor, 16bg ram and a SSD drive so I do not think speed is an issue. I upgraded from CS4 where the healing brush worked fine on this computer
