Photoshop :: Photomerge With 125 RAW Photos - 16 Megapixel Images
May 8, 2013
I have 125 raw photos that are 4912*3264 pixels I am trying to photomerge all them using the Cylindrical setting. And it is not working. I have let it go for like 12 hours and nothing is happing. Windows task manager flashes "photoshop not resonding" then it goes away and back and repeats... Processor peaks out only at like 15% after all images load and it starts to process.
Â
I tried going into Preferences and messed with ram allocation etc and other settings.Using latest PS version
Â
I am using CS6
Windows 8 x64
Intel Core i7 920
18 Gig of Ram
main drive for windows
raid for casch
disk for images
Nvidia GTX 560 HD

- recently i acquired a Canon 5D3, and was testing the photomerge function in Photoshop 5.1 (64-bit)
- after importing into LR4.4, right click the photos and direct them to edit in Merge to Panorama in Photoshop
- the popup "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.4 for full compatibility" came up
- selected Open Anyway and the Photoshop layout opened, after clicking OK, it doesn't do anything...
- photo dimensions: 5760x3840
- so I then I tried opening my older photos from the Canon EOS XSi and used exactly the same steps to get some photos to photomerge and everything went smoothly without issues
- after importing into LR4.4, right click the photos and direct them to edit in Merge to Panorama in Photoshop
- the popup "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.4 for full compatibility" came up
- selected Open Anyway and the Photoshop layout opened, after clicking OK, it stitches two photos up without issues...
- photo dimensions: 4272x2848
Â
I have thought of reinstalling Photoshop, however if the old photos work fine but not the new ones, maybe reinstall won't make any difference?

I just took three images of a sunset so that I could create a panorama image. When I use photomerge in photoshop cs6, only two images merge together and the third image is left by itself. I overlapped each image a sufficient amount but I still can't merge the third image.
Here is a screenshot of the end result. Am I not overlapping enough, or is there something I am doing wrong?

I shot landscape images for a panorama of 4 rows with 6 images in each row. The first image on the top row includes the top of a tree, but the other 5 images only has sky. Photomerge will not merge the 5 images of the top row because it only has sky in the image. I can merge the bottom 4 rows without a problem and can include the first image on the top row, but not the others.

if anyone has been able to do this in Photomerge. When I use images taken with a fisheye lens and turn on geometric distortion correction, Photomerge gives me an image that is shaped like an 's' on it's side. How am I supposed to use that in a panorama? By the time it's cropped to a rectangular shape, there is nothing left to see in the image.

for seafloor mapping. My biggest one so far consisted of 15.000 images. Unfortunaletly, I can't do them in one step, I need to produce submosaics of up to 250 images and then stitch them together manually after rendering.
Since I reach limits, some exchange of thoughts concerning "extrem photomerging" would be great. Has anyone of you similar experience with photomerge compositions that big?
What hardware would you recommend for maximum photo merge performance (PC only)?
Unfortunately, with CS3, Adobe eliminated the option to load the images to the image tray only, without any attempts of Photoshop to merge the images first. This sucks, of course. So I have to use CS2 still for the composition and CS3 only for rendering. Does anyone know whether CS4 has got the manual option back?

In PS CS2 I used to manually align 3 images in Photomerge to make a triptych (not a panorama). I can't figure out how to do this in CS6. Do I need to work with a tool other than Photomerge?

I am trying to create a panorama using 5 images. I did this 6 months ago using Photoshop CS5 and it produced a nice sharp image like my originals were. Using CS6 it is not sharp at all, to the point of being quite useless. If I can't figure this one out I am just going to go back to CS5.
Â
both panorama's were created from the same 5 images, in the second one I just wanted to make it a bit warmer because the white balance in the first image doesn't accurate reflect the colours that I saw. The second one created in CS6 looks really bad. And are there any solutions besides scrapping CS6 in favour of CS5?

We have recently installed Photoshop cs6 on two Mac Pros. On one of them, Photo merge is erasing parts of the individual images while stitching. The part of the original image that is covered by masking, is also erased when the mask is disabled. The merged image generally comes out fine, however, this problem can make it much more troublesome if one needs to adjust the combined image.
Â
On the second Mac, Photo merge works the way that it seems to work in all examples I´ve found online - the individual images retain all their pixels under the mask.
Â
The method we´re using is Layout: Auto, with "blend images together" as the only checked box.

Is there a simple way to limit the file size of the photos selected in LR3 for a photomerge in PS5?
Â
I have found that without limiting the size, the panoramas generated are very large - 1GB or greater.
Â
I've found an work around by opening the photos in Bridge and then in Camera Raw where I can reduce the file size before using PS5 for photomerge. After I've done this, it's a bit of a hassle to get the panorama back into LR3. The benefit of this approach is that it speeds up the processing significantly and downstream with any subsequent processing since the files are just large and not ginormus.Â
Â
If this isn't possible, this seems like a good idea for LR4.

When exporting a raw file to tif I set the output sizing to megapixel. When I did it to 58 megapixel at 300dpi it gave me a 165mb file size To get a 58mb file I had to go back and forth to find the setting should be 20 megapixels.

When I cut out a group of people from a photo for the purpose of dropping them on top of a new background, I usually run into the same problem. Even tho' I may have set them on top of a concrete sidewalk or the likes, they still have that look of hovering or floating in mid air.

I want to create cd covers by mixing images from different photos. Collage if you will.
I found a tutorial that describes the selection process and so forth. I also read something about how Image Ready makes it easier to cut up pictures for rearranging. How so?
Also I wonder if I can use photoshop to make images appear "ghostly". Like the ghosts in the Haunted House film. Or the librarian ghost in Ghostbusters.

I'm working on a website with an image and film archive. I wanted to have a couple images for the entry pages that give the site a sort of archive-y, slightly cluttered and haphazard feel. I recently got Photoshop CS2 and have some experience using it and previous versions, though I'm not an expert designer by any means. The two things I'd like to do are:
1. Find a plugin/filter/process to make jpg photo images appear to be old photos sitting on the background. I.e. make them a little warped, give a sense of depth & slight shadow, maybe even a slightly tattered edge. Basically to give the viewer an impression of several photographs scattered on top of a surface (in this case, the white background), maybe some tossed partway on top of others.
2. For the film content, I wanted an image of a 16mm film strip with screen captures from the films displayed as if they were each frame. I can do this with an image of flat 16mm movie film with the screen caps sized to fit the frames, but I'd *really* like to make that film sort of wavy and/or looped. Is there a way to warp a flat image like that into something that looks convincingly wavy, as if the film was just taken out of the canister?

I took a series of photos (9 shot vertically) of the lobby of AKL. I made adjustments in Bridge (3.0.0.464) then choose Photomerge through tools in Bridge to process the pano in CS4 (11.0). The images were processed for the natural light. Follow the link to see what CS4 came up with. The files were .dng processed with CS3. I have made many other photomerges using this combo, but this is first to achieve this type of result. In CS4, I used the vignette and distortion options.

When i run a Photomerge (using jpegs) i have even tried using the sample jpegs that come with the software of the SF skyline.
I select my images, and it runs the usual sequence of starting the layers and merging then when it ends its just dissappears looking like the software has just opend with nothing happening.
Ive tried every combination to make them work and nothing.
i never get to see any results.
I am using CS4, and ive also tried in CS3 again which is still installed on my partition. and its not working in that either. it used to work with no problems bit not now.

Just created a panorama out of 4 jpegs (together about 33MB) and saved it as jpeg.
Now I want to create another panorama out of 10 jpegs (together about 73MB), it worked fine, but I can't save it in jpg format. CS3 only offers .psb, raw or tif.

I tried 4 times consequently to stitch 4 images in Photomerge activated from Bridge - with same settings (auto and defaults i.e. blending images on, vignette removal off, distortion correction off). I was surprised of the result because each time I tried PS generated different panorama. Just to make sure I thoroughly checked if the stitch settings were really the same - they were... Am I missing something essential?

I reloaded my Photoshop to my C: drive about a week ago, but everything else seem to be working as it is supposed to. I have also installed a wacom pro, but I can't see where this would affect it.

When I have two or more photos open and I want to move them around, everytime I drag one over the other it becomes transparent. This transparency seems to happen once I drag the photo over the ruler but I could be wrong. Once I release the mouse button the two merge into one photo. I believe this has something to do with the photo merge feature. Can I turn this off?

I've seen recent posts about Photo merge crashing, I tried all the workarounds and remedies to no success. I run as Admin and still crashes, and only Photo merge is causing to crash. All other presets and automates are working just fine. I've deleted all Temp files and App Data, still nothing.
Â
My stats are:
Â
Windows 7 Professional
Intel i7 vPro (2860Qm @ 2.5GHz)
16GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro 2000M (lastest drivers, 266.96)
Scratch disk is 200GB and I'm using about 9GB of RamÂ
Â
So I don't think it's my computer that's the problem, but either the java script file for the automate or possible update?

The Photomerge in Photoshop CS4E is a fantastic tool when it gets it right, but what can you do when it doesn't? I've got a bunch of 9 images (in a "Noughts and Crosses" or "Tic Tac Toe" layout), all with 50% overlap, but a lot of fairly blank areas - this can't be avoided, they are nautical charts. When I do Auto Photomerge on these, a couple of the images get put in the wrong place. Is there a way to position the images in their approximate place, then get Photoshop to finish the job automatically?

cs3 had this option when creating a photomerge that made it so much easier to combine several photos when cs3 got lost in trying to merge.
I looked and looked in cs4 for the interactive command, so much simpler than grabbing the eraser and opacity, but I could not find the interactive addition for photomerge. Has it been moved or what ? IIRC in cs3 it was interactive from bridge..

When using the Photomerge tool in CS3 to do merges of 10+ images (10MP RAW), the process almost always stops at the blending step. Images are laid out properly, but the edges are not blended. Is there a particular reason for this? System has 3GB RAM, running XP (SP3).
Note that for smaller merges, the process completes fine.
I'd also be curious to know if the Photomerge facility has been improved in CS4. It works well enough, but on a dual-core 2GHZ system, it still can take 5 minutes to do an 8 image photomerge.

I have read and understood the Photomerge tool (and tried the process with the sample images that are in CS2). All this seems to be fine except for a couple of things...
1. To achieve 180 degrees I am going to need more than 3 images right? (overlapping each image by 15%-40%).
a. Can Photomerge in CS2 work with more than 3 images, or is 3 the maximum??
If 3 is the maximum, then it wouldn't be difficult to just increase the canvas width and add on? Or not? Or do 2 sets of 3 then hand stitch those together? What is the best process for achieving 180??
Also, I like to shoot just before sunset, usually. If I did a 180, say with the sun setting in the right hand side of the image, then panned to the left snapping as I go, I am obviously going to get different gradients of blue in the sky, (lighter sky to the right, a darker sky to the left)
Should I shoot in Manual or Aperture?
How will I get the tones in the sky to be seemless?. As long as I overlap by 15% - 40% all should be good?
What is the best process for achieving equal exposure in all shots?

My new instal of CS3 does not have FILE|Automate|Photomerge showing as an option. It did previously. It also lacks the icon to shift to Bridge. When I use the File command to start Bridge I get an error message about missing a JAVA script.
When I start Bridge (which appears to work) and try to send files to CS3 for Photomerge, it tells me that CS3 busy and asks if I want to queue up the work (even if CS3 is open).
