Photoshop :: Override Action (save-as) Command With Save For Web Batch Processing?
Jul 6, 2013
I've created an action that uses the save for web dialogue to optimise images for the web. When I use the batch command to process a full folder of images, even though I have "Override action "save as" command" checked, it ignores this and still uses the location that was used when the action was created.
Â
Apparently this is a known issue in CS6 and previous versions but whether this has been fixed in Photoshop CC?

I have been using several resizing and sharpening batch processes which have saved a resultant file at the end with a different name. In the Batch process an original folder was selected and a destination folder and the file name changed with a different custom prefix. I have been using these batch processes with no problems for years. Without warning I have noticed that all of these batches are no longer working and the end result is one file in the destination folder, ie it must me overwriting. I have tried to recreate the basic batch process again and have resorted to using both 'save; and 'save as' at the end of the process in different test batch processes and the same result happens pretty much each time, the one file after the original folder had 5 images. I have noticed that 'Save as' is not showing up in the actions of the batch process (only shows as 'Save' irrespective if you selected 'save' or 'save as'. It is like Photoshop is refusing to accept 'save as' with a new file as a valid action. I have also tried to check the override 'save as' box etc. If you edit normally in Photoshop and 'save as' for that image, there are no problems .

I plan to shoot timelapse with two supposedly identical camera setups and stack images from the two cameras. Unfortunately the two lenses turn out not to be quite identical, so I need to correct/map images from one camera to match the field of view of the other.
A test showed that Photoshop's auto-align procedure can do the mapping sufficiently accurate. So now what I want to do is to have Photoshop calculate the mapping parameters once, then apply that projection identically to a batch of images. What I really hope to avoid is for Photoshop to recalculate the mapping separately for every single frame, both because it is a huge waste of time but also because the exact same mapping really should be applied to all images. Is there a way to do this, CS6?

I have hundreds of files that I need to back save from CS6 to CS5 using the Batch process in the Actions palette. Previous attempts using Actions have resulted in the file not being backsaved, but instead just being saved again in CS6 format.how to back save to CS5 in batch processing?

I have Photoshop CS6 and I'd like to know how to create an action to save multiple photos in a batch command. I've been searching the Web, but I haven't been able to locate anything useful on this (except one article for CS5). Seems a bit odd. Anyway, I already know how to create an action, but what I'm stuck on is having the action pause and open a dialogue box so I can do things like name a photo, choose the size I want in the Save for Web dialogue, etc.

I have created an action in Illustrator CS5 that ungroups a radar graph and deletes the axis lines. And I would like to run this action on a batch of 100 files. The problem I am having is that when I run the action, I get the following pop-up message at the ungroup command:
If I click OK, the action continues. But, as part of a batch, it becomes a bit tedious to have to click "OK" 100 times, and it sort of defeats the purpose of running the action as a batch.
Â
I see options in the batch window to override action "Save As" and "Export" commands, but is there a way to have the batch override this confirmation message? I suspect there may be a way to do this with a script, but I am not proficient enough with scripting yet to take that route.

Here is the thing. I have implementes several action on Photoshop. SOme of the include several sub actions and different saving locations. For example, I open a file, then I hit my prefered key combo for that action, and I have:
1) convert to cmyk
2)save copy as JPG with 11 quality level
3) save to folder A
4) image size to 72 dpi
5) covert to RGB
6) save as JPG 6 quality level
7) save to folder B
8) close file and discard cahnges.
Â
Everything runs like heaven, but the moment I want to batch several files everything stalls.
Â
I choose file > Batch > Choose my set > choose my action
Source > I choose where my files are (usually a PDF)
then I use "Supress file open options dialogs"
Destination>Â Since I already have set destinations y my actions, I choose here a "dump" folder
On errors > I hit Save As... and put a name for that log.
Â
Then photohop opens my PDF on Photoshop and does nothing! It keeps my file open. I ma about to work with 400 files to batch, and this batch system does not work.

I have an action which applies Levels and Curves to my black and white TIFFs. At the end it "saves as" a JPEG. Originally it saved them at quality level 10 but I re-recorded the action to set the quality at 12. However, since this change the action keeps saving as into the folder where the image I used for the re-recording was located.

needs to overlay a grid over a photo and then save it as another file. In CS5.5 or earlier, no problem, but in CS6 it is not working for either of us.Â
The batch action (run from either Photoshop or Bridge) stops and prompts at the Save command every time no matter what format we save it in (psd, png, jpg, save for web, etc.).
I have been through the Web and the Adobe Forums and cannot find a work around for this. He cannot just hit enter everytime the popup window comes up because he has over 2700 photos to put this grid on.

I have 100's of flat images that I have to chop up into 3 parts and save as individual pieces to then load into a separate piece of software.
My problem is that when I start the batch, the 3 new images it creates for each image are simply overwriting each other when saving.
The options for serial numbers etc in the destination field of batch seems to only work for the original file opened, not the 3 new images the action creates/saves.

I have 30 dirs, each of them with 4 thumbs in it. I want to make one big thumb of every 4 smaller ones, by resizing and fitting them together into square. Like
Thumb1 right next to Thumb2
below
Thumb3 right next to Thumb4
and then save that image.
Would you give me any direction how to do that? I'm with CS3. I did explore the auto and script options in the File menu, but still unable to get idea how to do that, if possible at all

I am creating a layout which includes an image file. The base layer is a jpg file and the image needs to be placed ('Place' command) on top of this layer and I call for a couple of other processing steps after that (these extra steps are not shown below). Easy enough to turn this into an action.
>Open (open the bkg image)
>Place (place the subject's image file)
>Set Current Layer (change blend mode of subject image layer)
>Save
>Close
Â
But, when I try to automate this action, the Place command does not work properly. It's because I chose a specific image file to be placed. How do you program an action with a 'wildcard' so that it can be used in batch and process a whole folder of images?

I have created an action where I do some stuff with the picture and then I save the file to a shared network drive while using the "Save for Web" function. While recording the action everything works fine but when I run the action I got a error that Photoshop can't save the file because the Path does not exist / Is unavailable. It is stuck while he want's to run the "Save for Web" part of the action.
Â
I tried the mapped path (Z:files...) and the UNC path (\fileservusersdjametfiles...) but both did not work.I am using Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7 Professional (64Bit).

I'm trying to make an action that would perform some operations on images and save them to two different folders (as PDF and as JPG). Here's what my action looks like:
I make a droplet out of this action, and run it on a directory with a bunch of jpg files. However, all files are saved the same two locations: "archivepages_c.pdf" and "archivejpeg600pages_c.jpg".

AND/OR a open tab recovery cache or way to extract the images that get lost during a crash of PDN.
Â
Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.
Â
No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.

I have a question about using Find and Replace in an Action. For a bar chart with negative values, Illustrator will generate the value on the axis using a hyphen (e.g., -1, -2, -3). I would like to change the hyphens to en dashes (–1, –2, –3).
Â
I have 150 graphs, so the easiest way to do this would be to use an batch action on all graphs in a folder. I first flatten the graph and then do a find-and-replace..The trouble is that I get prompted at each find and replace..Of course I can click Find, Replace All, OK, Done each time, but this essentially defeats the purpose of creating an action.
Â
Is it possible to suppress the Find and Replace window and set the action to Replace All without prompting?

I have a question about actions.
When I create an Action that involves File, Save As.. it hardcodes the directory name I was using during recording. I want it to use the same directory as the open document. Is there a way to do this?
I.e., when I record the action on the file /path1/xyz.psd, and then try to run it on /path2/abc.psd, it will save the document abc.psd in /path1 rather than /path2.

when I use the 'Save for web' option, choose 'gif 128 Dithering' and click on the save-button, PS wants to save an html-file (like slices in Imageready).
When this occurs I have to rename the file-extension into gif and choose 'pictures only'.
This sometimes becomes a problem with actions and batch-processing.
For example: I've made a simple action which resizes all pics to 180 pixels and saves them as gif for web. This action stops, when the 'save for web' option wants to save the file as html.
I want the gifs to have the same name as the original file, so I can't just name them pic001, pic002 and so on.
Has this something to do with the original files being bmp's?

I need to save a drawing file and give it the name of my desire using a single command, I don't want to issue "saveas" and then specify the name in the file name prompt. This problem is has been faced when I was using ScriptPro and I couldn't succeeded to do that. Hence I need to know if it is feasible to do the stuff using a single command. It will be preferred if I can choose the location to save the file also rather than save the file to the default location.

Is it possible to insert a "stop" in the action for save for the web, just before actual save. Basically i want to be able to name my file manually (use distinctive names), but just to automate the picture size option and quality (which don't change). I know that i can write an action for an image resize and than save it with my desired file name, but i was wondering if i can do it all in "one shot" without the altering of original image.

I've got Photoshop CS4 and have created an action. However, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to save the action to a file so I can share it with others. The action converts a PSD to JPG and exports it for the web. How do you save an action so you can share it? I don't want to share all of my actions -- just this one.

Using PS7 I need to make an action that allows me to type in a different name each time when saving a file. ... this is basic but I just can't seem to get it.
More detail is... I have a .psd file that gets changed and then saved from 5 to 15 different ways to another computer on a network. The problem is being able to save the file as a number from "500" to "1299." Is there another way to do this without having an action for each number?
