Photoshop :: Need Seperate Actions For Different Resolutions
Jul 9, 2008
I've got ton of 50mb tiffs I need to reduce to small jpegs and watermark.
But I made an action and the watermark looked great on some and microscopic on others.
The files that had a resolution of 4000 (from slides per scanner) were fine.
The files that were shot digital -- resolution of 240, watermark was microscopic.
So only solution is to make seperate actions correct? (what a hassle)
Seems so stange in that the files are all same size more or less in size and the resolution really only matters if you print the dang thing, which I'm not doing now!

I'm going prematurely grey over it. Here's what I've done so far.I've opened the two files for the pics I want. One is for the backgound image the other has a quick mask I've applied for the foreground. I opened a new file and enlarged the canvas size. Then tried to drop & drag the background image into the new canvas. That doesn't work. However when I drop & drag the one with the qick mask it will co-opertate but the pic grows far too large in the new canvas.

This ones for the experienced PS users. By default, the resolution is 72ppi. I was wondering if anyone had experimented by changing this to a lower or higher number and if the results were better or worse.

I have a picture of Jimi Hendrix that i'd like to take the black parts away from, to make 2 seperate pictures. One jus the black and the other the colour. So say if you printed them both out on acetate and put them together, it would look like the original image?
Anyone know an easy way to do that?

I have been doing some work recently with stencils, which involves me using illustrator to do a cutout-type effect using the "live trace" function. It works very well for making stencils that I can enlarge many times. The problem I have encountered is with working with more than 3 layers- it is very hard to distinguish colors from each other, especially in more complex stencils, after they have been cut out.
I have been searching for an option (or seperate program) that would allow me to automatically separate the colors (there are never more than 15) onto individual layers, one color per layer.

Is there a way to open multiple images in 1 Photoshop PSD, with each image in it's own layer? I thought it may be the quickest way to stick images. The images will be named consecutively.

I usually do RAW photo editing on Photoshop on my old Fujitsu laptop & have recently I have upgraded to a Mac Book Pro. I have noticed that when I do the same kind of processing on my Mac book, the photos tend to not be as dark & have contrast as I would normally like it to be. Meaning to say, photos that look really dark in on my Mac book look rather greyed & washed out on my Fujitsu, however the photos I have processed on my Fujitsu all look nicely exposed on my Mac book.
Â
So is this due to different screen resolutions? Because the photos I have edited on my mac look really different when compared to on my Fujitsu, like the colors etc.

I used to assign certain width numbers for my psd webpages but it creates horizontal scroll bars on small monitors.
Can i do something with my psd file using photoshop in order to make the webpage fit all screen sizes? I don't like horizontal scrollbars appearing when my site loads. On the other hand, I also don't like un-necessary space appearing on large screens when my site loads. I use photoshop 7.

I have a high-res psd 3300-x5100 which I need to save as a thumbnail 200px wide and another 300px wide. Both smaller images are png or gif.
I see that saving a high-res gif and shrinking the gif to thumbnail results in poor text quality.
The psd has text in some layers and I've found that shrinking the psd image size does an excellent job in rendering sharp text in the smaller image.
Here's the problem I'd like to solve. Reducing the psd image size brings a risk that I might accidently save the reduced psd overwriting the high-res master. This would be a disaster. There are several workarounds, saving a temp psd, reduce, save png/gif. But these take clicks, time and disk I/O. Then there's the redundant reduced psd to delete...
Is there a better safe way to save lower resolution gifs?

I create a new blank image 300 pixel/in call land1. Then i add a photo (new layer) 1024 pixel/in to land1. So when I save, the photo inside land1 will stay 1024 p/i or it will be down to 300 p/i . When I merge layers, what is the final resolution? Do I need to make the land1 to 1024 p/i before add new photo?

I'm trying to merge something in a photo I took but the resolutions are different. The original photo is a little more pixalated then the object i'm including in the picture. Whats the best way to ADD pixalation and bring its resolution down to make the picture look worse so they match?

I'm an animation intern working for an animator who does things old school.
She gives me hundreds of animation cells to scan using her scanner into photoshop CS(nothing), using the scan utility in photoshop. the result, as we are doing it, is hundreds of separate image files. i then copy and paste each of these image files into another custom sized file as separate layers.
i know there must be a way to automate this or do it with an action, but i cannot figure it out. if you think this isn't possible with photoshop CS(nothing) i have CS3 available to me on my personal laptop.

When i use the FraxFlame 2 filter of KPT 7 (very heavy filter) in Photoshop 7 (also tried in version CS and 6 at work, didn't work) in a small image size, it works fine. When i try it on a big A4 image (300 DPI), the computer starts working, and after a long time, the layer i applied the filter on is unchanged. Strangely enough the use of the filter is in my history panel.
My comp is a WindowsXP with P4 1,7 Ghz and 512 MB RAM.

Is there away to "one-click" export an image to a set of .png files with different resolutions? (I need this for a set of iOS app icons).
Â
For example: Export a file MyAppIcon.psd into the following:
MyAppIcon_29x29.png
MyAppIcon_57x57.png
MyAppIcon_114x114.png
MyAppIcon_512x512.png
MyAppIcon_48x48.png
MyAppIcon_72x72.png
Â
I almost succeeded in doing this with Photoshop Actions, but can't figure out how to make the file names include the original image file name. In other words, file NewApp.psd should export to NewApp_29x29.png, not MyAppIcon_29x29.png.

I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.

In x2, in project properties, I could select "mpeg2" as the compression type, which would let me select a whole slough of resolutions.
In x3, it seems I can only select DVD pal or DVD ntsc, which of course are extremely limited for the resolution.
I'd like to be able to select 1280x720, for instance. I have old templates I saved from x2 that let me do it, but how else can I do it?

My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.

How can I change the playback and still player resolution for my timeline or for a clip?
I would like to be able to switch between full-resolution, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16ths etc... (with one setting for playback and another, separate setting for still image/paused frames) e.g. via a right click on a clip/player.
PS Just like in Redcine-X or Adobe Premiere or AE...

I like to put my actions somewhere special on my hardrive, not in apps folder.
Now, in past, when I saved actions CS2 would "remember" where this folder was, making real easy to save.
Lately, it keep defaulting to save as in the app folder-- even though I did navigate to my special area on last save as.

I have completed a project and I need to verify that, based on what I implemented, image should be resized but quality of image (both JPEG and GIF) should not be reduced.
My question is it possible to verify the result using photoshop or some other tools? How?
My college said it is hard to check if an image looks different because of image resizing or because of quality loss or because of both. He said I have to create some log files to trace the result. It is a little too much work for me.

I have alot of paper that I want to reduce & eliminate, I have a bunch of certificates, magazine/newspaper clippings that I have from high school & college to scan & would like to know what color settings would be best.
Â
I also have a bunch of brochures, other odd papers, receipts, & handwritten notes.
Â
I am using an Epson perfection photo 4490 flatbed scanner, on a mac running lion 10.7.5.
Â
I would also like to know what would be the best resolution to use.
Â
I read a little about bit depth, & from what I gather, the human eye can only see so many colors, & going with bigger color depths is good where one has to do alot of editing.
Â
most of these items are for records & archives, & maybe to be able to print from the scans, so I can throw out some of my paper. Also, when I scan in Adobe RGB, would it be best to use 48 bit depth to go with the fuller color? & when I use sRGB use 24 bit depth?

I am currently trying to find a faster way to create the images I use for our website at work. We sell phone cases with lots of different printed designs on but all of the actual surrounds of the cases are the same, either in Black or White.
I have created a Black and a White template and kept the front, back and side shots of the phone case on separate layers so they can later be manipulated as needed. I have all of the 'design inserts' saved as separate files which then need to be pasted into the templates (in between certain layers) and saved (one for each case colour).
I am wondering if there is an action or a way in Photoshop that I can set it to import the design into the template, then save the design, then import the next design and save, and so on and so forth? As we have well over a hundred designs and creating the images manually can take a very long time.
I have attached images of a template, a design and how I need it to look after.

I have created an action to prepare images for web posting. The action resizes images, sharpens them, adds a frame writes into the frame my contact details and lastly adds the name of the subject (location, or person's name) and then outputs the image to the correct folder. Typically I run the batch on a folder of say 30-40 images at a time.... sometimes upto 100. All run from either bridge or as a droplet via Lightroom. The action works great... except that each batch I run it on the "subject name" I need to insert is different. Is there any way at all to get the action to prompt me for just that bit of information. I've tried checking/ticking the dialog on/off option for the text field in the actions pallet and that works, but... when I'm applying the action to a batch of images it asks for the text EVERY time and doesn't remember what I typed in last time. At the moment, the solution I have is to open one image that I want to run the batch on. Make a copy of the action and enable a stop before the text prompt... run the script to that point. Then run/edit the text line, remove/disable the stop. If necessary create a new droplet. I can then go over to bridge or Lightroom and process the images using the new action. Ideally the what I would like to hapen when I'm running an action like this is when processing the FIRST image in the batch for PS to ask me what text I want and then use that same text on all the other 30 or 40 images.
