Photoshop :: Layer & Photo Resolutions

Oct 6, 2004

I create a new blank image 300 pixel/in call land1. Then i add a photo (new layer) 1024 pixel/in to land1. So when I save, the photo inside land1 will stay 1024 p/i or it will be down to 300 p/i . When I merge layers, what is the final resolution? Do I need to make the land1 to 1024 p/i before add new photo?

Photoshop :: Clone From One Layer (photo) To Another Layer (photo)?

Feb 19, 2012

I'm trying to clone from one layer (photo) to another layer (photo), and simply want an exact pixel-to-pixel replacement.  For instance I'd like to copy pixel (10, 20) from the first layer to pixel (10, 20) on the second layer.

I've found that I can set the upper, left corner of Layer 1 as the "source" (using Alt+click), and then go to my "destination" layer, and click on the same upper, left location, and then subsequent click-and-drags will then be aligned, but that is not an elegant process.  I'm assuming that there's just a button click or option that I'm not aware of that will make all of this much simpler.

PS: I'm using PS CS5

Photoshop Elements :: Transferring Layer From Photo Bin To Another Photo

Dec 10, 2012

I have PSE 11 and I am creating a Christmas theme with various pictures. I have my main photo with 6 layers including a tree and figures which I can move independantly and the background is the checkerboard as the main layers are turned off with only my selections showing. I also have another photo where I have selected part of it and also turned off the main layers leaving a small part with checkered background. When  I have the main photo loaded and drag the other one from the photo bin with the move tool, nothing appears on the main picture. I have already dragged the Christmas tree in the same way and that worked. By the way, all the files are .PSD.

Photoshop :: RAW Processing With Different Screen Resolutions

Oct 12, 2013

I usually do RAW photo editing on Photoshop on my old Fujitsu laptop & have recently I have upgraded to a Mac Book Pro. I have noticed that when I do the same kind of processing on my Mac book, the photos tend to not be as dark & have contrast as I would normally like it to be. Meaning to say, photos that look really dark in on my Mac book look rather greyed & washed out on my Fujitsu, however the photos I have processed on my Fujitsu all look nicely exposed on my Mac book.

So is this due to different screen resolutions? Because the photos I have edited on my mac look really different when compared to on my Fujitsu, like the colors etc.

Photoshop :: Saving As Multiple Resolutions

Jul 30, 2008

I have a high-res psd 3300-x5100 which I need to save as a thumbnail 200px wide and another 300px wide. Both smaller images are png or gif.

I see that saving a high-res gif and shrinking the gif to thumbnail results in poor text quality.

The psd has text in some layers and I've found that shrinking the psd image size does an excellent job in rendering sharp text in the smaller image.

Here's the problem I'd like to solve. Reducing the psd image size brings a risk that I might accidently save the reduced psd overwriting the high-res master. This would be a disaster. There are several workarounds, saving a temp psd, reduce, save png/gif. But these take clicks, time and disk I/O. Then there's the redundant reduced psd to delete...

Is there a better safe way to save lower resolution gifs?

Photoshop :: Need Seperate Actions For Different Resolutions

Jul 9, 2008

I've got ton of 50mb tiffs I need to reduce to small jpegs and watermark.

But I made an action and the watermark looked great on some and microscopic on others.

The files that had a resolution of 4000 (from slides per scanner) were fine.

The files that were shot digital -- resolution of 240, watermark was microscopic.

So only solution is to make seperate actions correct? (what a hassle)

Seems so stange in that the files are all same size more or less in size and the resolution really only matters if you print the dang thing, which I'm not doing now!

Photoshop :: KPT 7 FraxFlame 2 Doesn't Do Anything In High Resolutions

May 22, 2004

When i use the FraxFlame 2 filter of KPT 7 (very heavy filter) in Photoshop 7 (also tried in version CS and 6 at work, didn't work) in a small image size, it works fine. When i try it on a big A4 image (300 DPI), the computer starts working, and after a long time, the layer i applied the filter on is unchanged. Strangely enough the use of the filter is in my history panel.

My comp is a WindowsXP with P4 1,7 Ghz and 512 MB RAM.

Photoshop :: (one-click) Export Image To A Set Of PNG Files With Different Resolutions?

Jun 6, 2012

Is there away to "one-click" export an image to a set of .png files with different resolutions? (I need this for a set of iOS app icons).

For example: Export a file MyAppIcon.psd into the following:

MyAppIcon_29x29.png
MyAppIcon_57x57.png
MyAppIcon_114x114.png
MyAppIcon_512x512.png
MyAppIcon_48x48.png
MyAppIcon_72x72.png

I almost succeeded in doing this with Photoshop Actions, but can't figure out how to make the file names include the original image file name. In other words, file NewApp.psd should export to NewApp_29x29.png, not MyAppIcon_29x29.png.

Sorry for this simple question. My "Classroom in a book" seems to have all the layers in place and even in their section on new layers... the image they want to work with is already a layer. They don't seem to cover a way to make new layers...

Photoshop :: RGB 48bit Color Versus SRGB 24bit Color For Scanning Documents And Resolutions

Dec 30, 2012

I have alot of paper that I want to reduce & eliminate, I have a bunch of certificates, magazine/newspaper clippings that I have from high school & college to scan & would like to know what color settings would be best.

I also have a bunch of brochures, other odd papers, receipts, & handwritten notes.

I am using an Epson perfection photo 4490 flatbed scanner, on a mac running lion 10.7.5.

I would also like to know what would be the best resolution to use.

I read a little about bit depth, & from what I gather, the human eye can only see so many colors, & going with bigger color depths is good where one has to do alot of editing.

most of these items are for records & archives, & maybe to be able to print from the scans, so I can throw out some of my paper. Also, when I scan in Adobe RGB, would it be best to use 48 bit depth to go with the fuller color? & when I use sRGB use 24 bit depth?

Photoshop :: Composite Photo And Background Layer

Apr 10, 2013

workflow problem when dealing with a composite, selection and background layer. My normal workflow is to start of in LR4, and if need be do an "edit in, CS6". I am relatively new to CS6, so bear with me.

I have some portraits I want to put different backgrounds on. I am using Matt Kloskowski's Layers book and Composites books written for CS5. I also have Martin Evening's book on CS6 and the workflow for doing a composite is pretty much the same. The catch is that none of them start off in LR with the original photo. They all describe the following basic workflow pattern:

1. Bring up the main photo in CS using "edit in CS6"
2. Change the photo from a background layer to a regular layer
3. Make a selection.
4. Make a layer mask
5. Refine the edge
6. open the background photo you want to place the selection in (steps 4 and 5 are sometimes reversed so you are refining the edge on the new background)
7. copy and paste the original photo onto the new background
8. Refine the edge if not already done
9. Save and exit back to LR with the composite

If I follow this procedure I run into a couple of problems:

1. My backgrounds are in a separate folder on my computer and not cataloged in LR. So, if I open them in photoshop and paste the original photo onto that image, LR will not know that I want to take the new composite back to the original folder along with the portrait. If I go to save the image, CS want to take the composite back to the folder on my computer where I got the background from. I tried playing around and tried renaming the composite similar to the naming convention I use for my photos in LR and then importing it into that folder after I have saved it in the background folder. This had some unintended consequences. First, I had trouble renaming the composite photo. For some reason Windows kept plugging in an old photo file name from one of my photos taken two years ago. After I discovered that  I could work around it. But after the first composite finally got into LR, when I tried to do it again, the import button on the left side of my LR went dark and I couldn't import the second composite photo I was working on. This could have been a coincident and unconnected LR glitch, but I have never had that problem before.

So...I was thinking of modifying the workflow to the following:

1. Bring up the main photo in CS using "edit in CS6"
2. Change the photo from a background layer to a regular layer
3. Make a selection.
4. Make a layer mask
5. Refine the edge
6. open the background photo you want to place the selection in
7. copy and paste the new BACKGROUND onto the original photo
8. Move or make the new background layer THE "Background" layer
10. Refine the edge
11. Save and exit back to LR with the composite

I am envisioning this will ensure that my composite will wind up back in LR because it is still keeping track of the original photo which now has gotten the new background, regardless of what the file name of the new background was.

Photoshop :: Layer Ordering For Photo Editing

Nov 7, 2008

with layers on photoshop (CS3) when trying to edit photos. Although i can do each individual part on its own what im after is one file containing different layers for each adjustment.

For example i want my healing/clone layer, a sharpening layer, various adjustment layers etc.

Im completely stumped as to what order i want to put these in. For example with mu healing layer in one place if i adjust the levels slider on the adjustment layer i get blotches where the healing brush was used as it hasn't updated to the new levels. Reversing the 2 and the healing brush pastes in from the old not new levels so wrong colours and so on.

sensible layer based work flow and order for dealing with these things in photoshop?

Currently i end up loading an image, doing all the healing, flattening then creating adjustments and so on but this means obviously i cant go back to adjust an individual layer and so on so isnt great.

Photoshop :: (Layer Style) Screen Pops Up For Each Photo In Automate Batch Processing?
