Photoshop :: Liquify Producing Artifacts
May 10, 2006
I am getting unwanted artifacts when I work with medium to large size brushes in Liquify. The artifacts look like lines of a few pixels width that are offset from the surrounding image area -- almost like pulling a couple of threads in a woven patterned fabric. This has happened with both large and small file sizes. It necessitates way too much retouching.
I use liquify extensively on images and didn't have this problem when I used Photoshop 7. It began with CS. I am now using CS2 on a G5 with OS 10.4. Any ideas how to solve this?

Running CS6 Basic on W7-64bit. I'm not a frequent user of CS6, mostly Photoshop Elements does all I need, but I've been reworking the CS5 Classroom in a Book exercises to refresh my CS6 knowledge.
Â
I've reached the exercise (page 139) where multiple images of a model are merged using File> Automate> Merge to HDR Pro... but getting a weird result in CS6 64-bit. I've tried (resetting preferences, ensuring images are displayed in tabs) but neither has worked. My graphics drivers are up to date as are all Windows updates.
Â
If I run the same images through Merge to HDR Pro in the 32-bit version of CS6 its perfect.

I have a friend and she produces some really nice high quality pics. I was wondering if anyone can (maybe) show a way on how she did this. I've been trying to figure it out and getting close, but it also might be her camera as well.

I have two frames. Each contains a transparent background and an completely opaque object. When I choose the tweening option with specified number of frames, I get a semi-transparent transition.
If I first duplicate the first frame, then select all three frames and choose tweening I also get a semi- transparent transition.
Â
I even copied the layers before converting the whole thing into a Frame Animation - with the same result.
Â
(I also saw the older Topic here: [URL], but it was no use to me, since I even had this effect when I first duplicated the frame).

I am trying to create a panorama using 5 images. I did this 6 months ago using Photoshop CS5 and it produced a nice sharp image like my originals were. Using CS6 it is not sharp at all, to the point of being quite useless. If I can't figure this one out I am just going to go back to CS5.
Â
both panorama's were created from the same 5 images, in the second one I just wanted to make it a bit warmer because the white balance in the first image doesn't accurate reflect the colours that I saw. The second one created in CS6 looks really bad. And are there any solutions besides scrapping CS6 in favour of CS5?

I've drawn the letter "S" in fancy script with the pen tool (vectors) but where the vectors overlap, it's transparent. Is there a way to have this section filled in? I'm using Photoshop 7.

I have seen tuts on making cracks. I was wondering if there was an easier way.I want to make a crack that stays in the middle of a letter (even around the bends in the letter), and has branches. The cracks I draw always seem manufactured. I am looking for a cracked earth type of crack. If you have any idea on how to accomplish this could you provide an example picture?

I have two frames with the start and end of my animation. My two layers contain a transparent background and an opaque object. When I choose the tweening option and add my specified number of frames, then test the animation, the start of the animation is 0% opaque and slowly becomes 100% at the end.
Â
My two layers used for start and finish are opaque. I have all the checkboxes checked by default for the tweening, and I can't figure why I'm getting a fade-in effect for my animation.

I need just a bit of help with an image that I am trying to correct. Am having no problem with the color levels or the brightness/contrast. My problem is that after I have adjusted all the needed levels, brightness/contrast, etc I am stuck with an image full of what I call artifacts. I have tried everything I can think of to clear this up but obviously there is something I am missing. Hope someone is able to help me with this. The image that is posted is the original that has been untouched.

In trying to produce out an .mp4 file (H.264, 5000 data rate, 30fps frame-based, 1280x720) at some point in the file creation, usually around 70%, the screen goes black, I have no keyboard or mouse response and the only sign of life is the blue light on the CPU. The only way out is a hard shutdown and reboot. Needless to say nothing gets produced out.

I am trying to produce video files for a website video player that requires either FLV or MP4 videos in a non-HD resolution with a widescreen aspect ratio. I am using VisualStudio Pro X5, and the source video files were shot in 1280x720. The project files are in the VSP format (not HTML5).
I might be missing something, but I do not see any options to render any type of FLV file... is this correct?
Regarding MP4's, I only seen one option for a non-mobile MP4, and that is the MP4 HD which will not work as I need a lower resolution. All of the other MP4 options are various iPhone / i Pad / mobile phone files and do not work with standard web browsers. I am looking to produce a non-mobile MP4 in something like a 480x720 resolution, but that doesn't appear to be possible.

Work has finally given me a machine that can run AutoCAD properly and I now also have the office license of full AutoCAD 2011 (vanilla AutoCAD not architecture etc.)
I am about to start placing a lot of setting our coordinates onto some drawings and was wondering what the easiest/fastest way to produce setting out coordinates utilising all the fancy stuff AutoCAD has.
On LT I used to place points where I wanted the coordinates from, copy a peice of MText around say E:XXXXX N:XXXXXX with a leader from the point to the text. I would then go around listing each individual point and copy and paste from the AutoCAD text window to the MTEXT correcting the decimal point manually.
My director on this job hates tables of coordinates so I can't use them. Also the datum of the drawings is not world UCS, would this be a problem? I have looked at the LISP tutorial but have never used any LISP beyond this.

I am creating 3D renders in PS CS6, and I am getting strange blocky artefacts in the renders. These appear on first pass and persist throughout the render. This has happened in the last 2 renders I have tried - I haven't used 3D for a while before this and I don't remember these before.
Â
By blocky artefacts I don't mean the JPG artefacts created by the forum's degrading of the uploaded image, but the light coloured rectangular blocks around the "s",On Win7x64 with latest PS CS6 update; NVidia 650M2GB on a Core i78GB.

Iinstalled version of CS4 v11 with no plugins and all settings at the defaults. If I go to Help > About Photoshop (and other menu selections) it causes a gray line to suddenly appear through the menu bar. If I then move my cursor over the minimize/maximize/close icons in the upper right, artifacts appear. .

i recently fixed a virus on my computer after a few days hard work tracking it down, and since then i have experienced no blue screens anymore, but i had a probel with explorer.exe where it used sometimes over 800MB of memory doing nothing. With more research and monitoring, i discovered its cause was actually a corupt music file on my desktop, and every time i refreshed my desktop, explorer's memory usage would jump up a few dozen more kb of memory.
This is now fixed. BUT, i still have one symptom of something wrong, that doesnt seem to go. My PC is back to being fast it seems now, and there is no noticable real lag between just opening folders like there was, but my desktop still has problems. If i close a full screen program, the computer doesn't exactly slow down, its just the program closes very slightly slower than normal because it closes from top to bottom.
MSN in particular, always leves it's title bar behind when closed. And if i click and drag on my desktop, the little dashed box it makes sticks and doesn't go away. All of this is resolved by a refresh of the desktop, but it doesn't explain why it is happening. Windows XP 32bitNVidia 9800GTX GPU4GB RAM

After using the Filter Extract and Magic Lassoo methods to erase a background of say a model, I usually end up with lots of artefacts.
I then use the backgound erase to remove these. But I find it very time consuming as they do not show up that well on the standard grey checkerboard background.
how to see artefacts easier ?

I am looking for producing Blu-Ray compliant output from VideoStudio. I have VS PRO X4 with SP2. The input is AVCHD from a Canon HF200 and the target is Adobe Encore.
The reason for Encore is that I need a good navigation solution. VS’s menu and navigation is somewhat primitive. But Encore is notoriously zealous about compliance. An had given up on getting Encore to recognize anything from VS as compliant but took another look and now I’m even more confused.
As a baseline, if you take the raw clips from the camera and put them into Encore it accepts that they are Blu-Ray (H.264/AC3) compliant and will not attempt to transcode them. This is what I want since the output will be essentially the same as the input so no loss and the time to output is quite fast. The exception to this is when something like a transition occurs then it must be rendered. What I was not expecting is that VS does not appear to render the whole clip. It renders the bit that has the transition or effect or title etc. up to the next GOP then appears to revert back to not transcoding again. I can’t be 100% sure of that but carefully watching the CPU and disk activity and showing the render progress it is quite obvious that when it gets to raw footage again it starts behaving like a file copy rather than a render. This suggests that SmartRender actually does try and do the right things.
I did try to put a clip at the front of the project then tell VS to render as per first clip. This did not work, the output was compliant but it decided to render everything. I would expect this to be the ideal case for NOT rendering but something went wrong. If you put an item that does need rendering followed by the raw clips it renders than flips into just copy. There seems to be a logic fault here somewhere. Then I found that if disabled SmartRender the output for was compliant but it rendered all the clips.
If I output the project as Blu-Ray (MPEG-2) it come out as fully compliant and Encore won’t touch it. Of course it is twice as big as the original and some degree of rendering must have taken place, although it takes only a fraction of the time for other renders. I am not sure why this is the case either. If I use the other options (like 1440x1080i) it is also compliant (although the scenes are totally distorted as you expect).
I also tried a custom preset setting the video to 1920x1080i with a max bit rate of 20000 H.264 and the AC3 to 384kbps. I know there are quite a few more factors in Blu-Ray compliant video but this is all I can set.
It seems no matter what I do I get compliant Blu-Ray output EXCEPT for the one I really want with SmartRender doing it’s thing.
All I can conclude from this is that VS can produce compliant Blu-Ray and SmartRender short circuits the render but for some reason already fully compliant video gets turned into non-compliant video.

I'm working on a project and I'm painting a robot which is in a dark grey. I need to be able to paint in the shadows but Photoshop is going haywire with rendering the gradients. I'm simply using a round brush with 30% opacity and 20% flow. What I'm getting is some VERY ugly jaggedy stepping of tone.
My current project dimension are 5000 x 3000 px. I don't get what is going on. I have not changed blending modes, nor am I using any alternate modes on my brush. All the settings are pretty much out of the box, except for the global settings I mentioned above.
I'm a digital illustrator and I've been using PS for years and I've never run into this problem before. I'm runnin PS CS6 on Windows 7 pro with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ video card.

I have some really good resoloution images for a large 8x4ft poster project. but one of my clients larger images (an important one) is just a 1000 x 1000px image @ 72dpi that has some artifacts which needs to occupy a approximate 25 inch square on the final print. I can't get a better quality image than this from the client at this time as they don't have it. what techniques can I use in photoshop to increase the print size while improving the final printed image. In the past, I sized up the image to the size needed and set the dpi from 72 to 300dpi (using "bicubic smoother"), add some surface blur, add monochromatic, uniform noise @ 2% +/- (to help smooth out the artifacts). with this image now, there are a lot of flat shiny surfaces where the artifacts are more noticable, etc. what kind of techniques would you use for this kind of job? (apart form hitting the client xD)

I had a road map drawing in Draw X3, mostly lines and text,  and used to export to pdf for smartfphone compatibility, getting typically an adequate quality 204 kB file using "export for editing" export setting.  After upgrading to Draw X5 the same file gives a 1508 kB pdf file which is too large.   If the export setting is turned back to "web" I get a small 40 kB file but the quality is not so good.   How do I compromise between "web" and "edit" settings for exporting to pdf.

I am trying to produce an iFeature that can be used as a punch/slot within a sheet metal component.
I have had minor success creating basic dimples before (simple revolved features), but this time I require a more detailed feature. I haven't been able to produce this part (see attached) as an i Feature. I believe it is because I have used a loft.
What alternatives are there?  (I feel if I could get a good grasp on the limits of iFeatures that I could really make my modelling more efficient and versatile).

Using the autopublish command, I'm getting PDF files that display just fine on my monitor, but then when I try to print I get this series of error messages:
"The document could not be printed."
"There were no pages selected to print."
"A drawing error occurred."
But the most frustrating thing is that it only happens for some .dwg files, not all. It seems that the larger they are and the more pages involved, the more likely they are to produce this error.
EDIT: I just went through and tried to print page by page. It turns out of the 22 pages, the only two that won't print and give the errors above have no viewports and are just two large tables filled with text. Is there anything I can do to these tables to make the pages print?

In images where there's flat colour (eg book & cd covers), how do you easily get rid of any unwanted noise, without making edges blurry, or resizing down?
Take this image below for example. It's essentially 5 flat colours. How do I remove the jpegging without blurring the colour edges any more than they are? (click to see full size, it doesn't look so bad squeezed down in a forum page)
I tried Filter > Noise >Reduce Noise with no luck. I thought Posterize would work but it's too harsh on the edges.

I have been a long time Photoshop user and am having screen redraw problems since I have purchased a new system. I did not have this problem on my Macbook Pro which was hooked up to the same monitor.
Â
Problem is: When I open a file in CS5 (12.0) and move the image around screen Its not redrawing smoothly. There is some stair-stepping artifacting going on. Its not lagging....just creating some stair-stepping like artifacting.
Â
If I open the same file in "Preview" (version 6.0) and recreate the same image movement there are no problems.
System is :
Mac OS mountain lion 8.0Â
Mac Pro 3.2 Quad core (5,1) Â
Monitor NEC PA271W (W/spectraview)Â
GPU is ATI Raedon 5770 Â
Monitor to Mac connection is DVI to DVI

We've encountered a huge problem with some JPEGs we retouched for print.Either directly after opening them in PS or after saving and closing the image (mostly the case) it's getting some kind of horizontal stripes / artifacts. Problem is, sometimes they only appear after saving the image, so we'd have to reopen every one a few times to make sure this error does not occur. Also, the images look abolsutely fine in the preview AND wehen placed in InDesign. Sometimes they're visible in the exported PDF, sometimes they aren't and we eventually find out when the product is already printed.
Â
We're running CS6 on OS X 10.7.5 with newest patches and Updates. All images are HQ stockphotos from familiar sites.
