Sep 24, 2008Is there some way I can leave select areas white and unaffected by transparency?

View 4 RepliesWhen I open photos from Lightroom, areas of transparency are showing up at random within the photo. If I convert the Background to a Layer, the problem disappears.
What is causing this, and how can I prevent it? Win 7 16 gig Ram NVIDIA GT 220 .
I have a gif image. It is a black and white outline of the state of New York. How do I select just the outside area to delete the background?
If I use the magic wand, It selects all the white. Then when I delete, it deletes the entire background and leaves only the black outline.
I want the black outline and the interior white area. How can I properly select this?
I have an ink drawing intended for part of a comic book that I scanned in black and white (no grey) and I am just trying to replace the white areas with transparency so that I can come in with other layers and add color to the image...I am just wondering how I would go about doing this...

I would like to know if it is possible to turn a solid fill area into a transparent appearance.
This is in a 2D drawing.
I just upgraded by CS to 5.5 here in the last couple of weeks (I had purchased it prior to 6 being launched). Any way, I've noticed on some ads I create, when I save as an EPS and then go to "flatten transparency" that sometimes it is taking elements and darkening the photo/graphic underneath. For example, I have an ad that has three starbursts with drop shadows overlaying some photos. When I select the "flatten transparency" function, it is darkening a portion of the photo underneath.

Is there a way to make the selection to select the first layer only?
LR3.4.I have a whole selection of photos that were taken at an event where there was 2 types of lighting, so the people in the back of the shots have a warm orangey glow and the people at the front have the day light. What would be ideal option to adjust the white balance on 2 separate areas, but I can't seem to find this in Lightroom? is it possible or will I need to export 2 versions and merge in photoshop etc?

Is it possible to mirror the selection, so that it selects the corresponding ares on the other half as well? Because it would cut down the workload by a fair bit.
1. I can no longer nudge grouped layers. Photoshop complains that it cannot nudge layers in a group.
2. When I try to move a layer selected in the layer panel (or selected via ctrl-alt-right click), a click on the layer selects the layer effect above instead. It seems like there is some kind of click through enabled. If I click on a transparent part of the layer, the layer below get selected instead.
My first thought was that this had something to do with "Auto-select layer/group", but it's disabled. how can I go back to normal mode, so I can click anywhere in a layer, transparent or not, and move the items in it etc?(I'm using Photoshop CS6.)
I'll make the important parts bold.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to be getting only partial transparency when using Foreground Select Tool (as compared to Full Transparency when using Rectangular Select Tool)
I am pretty sure this was not the case the other day. I have tried resetting all Tool Options and looking through preferences for anything I may have changed but can't spot anything.
I was using Paint.net but I've found it too limited. The GIMP has much more power and I can do a lot more with it, but I've found a few things I can't figure out how to do.
For example, when I use the Eyedropper tool () to choose a color, GIMP doesn't seem to include any transparency in the selection:
The Colorpicker just chooses the color at 100% opacity. Is there any way to change this so that my new foreground color includes the transparency level?
I am trying to create a very simple logo. Basically, I created two layers: one with the letter M and the other with the letter W. I now want to place another letter over top of them and then select it so I can delete the shape of the third letter from the other two and essentially be able to see the transparent background through the third letter.
I have done this in PS CS2 no problem, but I am trying to do it in illustrator so I can resize the design for anything from a business card to a billboard if needed. Bottom line is I need a solution that wont effect me being able to resize the vecotr to crazy sizes.
In the image below, the "S" is just a white letter. I need it to be a cut out through the M and W so that whatever Background it is on the page or document shows through that S space.
What is the difference between rooms and areas? Why create an area schedule off 'areas' as opposed to using 'room' areas? Can you create a schedule off room areas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the image below I have an aerial photo of an Island. I need to make it so as water areas are black and land areas are white (not greyscale) almost like a silhouette. My first plan was to draw round the island with a black paint brush and then use the "bucket fill" with a suitable threshold to fill all of the areas up to the black outline with black, however this doesn't work as the bucket fill either breaks through the black line or when I reduce the threshold, doesn't color the water areas solidly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Batch with 3 Action nodes inside. Each of these has multiple Geoms tucked away in groups.I only want to see some of the Geoms about half way through the clip. It's raised a few questions:
1) I can only think of animating their transparencies to make them appear at a certain point, is there some other way? Like if it was footage you could use the Timing in Batch.
2)I couldn't find a way to easily select a bunch of Geoms and change their transparency together, I could only do it by using Duplicate mode. But that takes all the parameters from the parent, what if you just wanted to alter one thing?
I could use an expression, but would I have to do that one at a time on all the Geoms?
3) What does the Parenting mode do exactly? can't you just parent thing while in Move mode? What does it add?
4) So I used Duplicate to link the Geoms to one in particular, it doesn't seem to have affected anything I didn't want it to (fingers crossed) and then used an expression on that to link it to a control axis for ease. Does that sound the easiest way?
5) And finally, I was just thinking it would be nice if I linked the transparencies to a control axis of some kind in the Batch, to affect all of the Actions. I half expected to find a 'Control Node' in the box Is there a particular node that would work well as a control axis?
Colours are being over saturated in shaded areas and less saturated in light areas when filled over an aeea. The colours need to remain the same saturation level when darkened or lightened. Is a setting affecting the saturation levels?

I have used the free transform and/or transform scale many times, and have never had it leave a line. I must have changed something , but can't figure it out. Have played around with the refine edges, and can't seem to make it go away. I am using CS3, and make my selection, then go to stretch it. When I deselect, there is a thin line on the bottom of where the selection was. Why is this happening?

View 1 Replies View RelatedEach time I leave photoshop elements 10 (bought on Apple Store), A windows says that I don't have the required rights and my preference are not saved. Each time I restart the program it is re-installing the effect as if it's a new install. Any change done in preference window is not taken into consideration. I understood that this is because Photoshop is trying to save on root directory, which is not possible as protected. How can I change the right or tell photoshop to save the preference file somewhere else? I use Mountain Lion.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm missing a very important feature since I switched from CS4 to CS 5.5: In Photoshop CS4, when you created a path in another and selected the path, the inner path was left blank (Creating an "o" and selecting it got you the selection in shape of an o).
Now, as I'm using CS5.5, Photoshop totally ignores those inner paths and makes one big selection (example: [URL] ....]. I have to put big industrial machines on transparent background, and now I have to create dozens of paths for every little hole and then must put them together manually, which takes a lot of time.
How to remove all the people out of the picture attached just leaving the back ground image?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two pictures.
I would like the two pictures to blend in the middle from left to right.
The picture on the left will be sharpe on the left side but fade/transparent by the time it reaches the middle.
The picture on the right will be sharpe on the right side but fade/transparent in the middle.
I would think I need a gradient transparency (you always have to use a color)
I see pictures like this all the time, but can not seem to find the correct feature or combinations of features.
Can anyone tell me how to change a photo to black and white but leave a handband in the photo in color? I just can't quite figure it out!
