View 1 RepliesWe are relative newbies to VideoStudio 4 but we're able to make some simple movies. Now we have been instructed to create a video that has a single red line that begins in the upper left corner, and continues to extend, to the right, towards the right side corner as the video progresses.
How to accomplish such a thing. We have the basic VS4 package, which comes with Boris Graffitt plug in, thats very complicated to us..
I've just bought Photoshop CS5 to stay on the upgrade path. In designing (or redesigning) the interface for CS5 and Adobe Camera Raw something seems to have gone awry.
Overlong Menus..Compared to CS4 two of Photoshop CS5's menus have lengthened so that they no longer fit on the screen of my MacBook Pro – the Edit and Layers menus. Thus, the bottom of the menu is off the bottom of the screen (or the top, if you are at the bottom of the menu). Now, it is true that the Edit menu has two more items (32 instead of 30) but the Layers menu has the same number (29 items). In CS5 all the menu text items are more widely vertically spaced leading (pun not intended) to this problem on a MacBook Pro.
The CS4 menus were perfectly legible before so why do this ? What purpose does it serve ?
ACR Disappearing Into the Dock:And using Adobe Camera Raw has a similar problem in that the the ACR window disappears into the Dock at the bottom of the screen. Now I've read Jeff Schewe's response to this in another post where he seems to think that those who use the Dock are in some way mentally deficient (I'm exaggerating to make a point) but, Jeff, some of us like the Dock and find its presence at the bottom of our screens reassuring and useful. BTW, Jeff, removing the Dock doesn't solve the CS5 menu problem. Seems to me to be sloppy design.
What would be better would be to ensure that the scale of the interfaces fits on our screens, would it not ?
Having felt I've been coerced into an early and expensive upgrade by Adobe to stay on the upgrade path is it not unreasonable to expect better?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7, Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 x64. I updated from CS5 and all was well. Photoshop came up very fast when it was started. One day for a reason I've forgotten, I had to delete and reinstall CS6 and ever since then it's taken I'd estimate maybe 20 seconds to come up. If I shut CS6 down and restart it without rebooting the computer, it comes up relatively fast.
I'm assuming there is a file that should be starting on boot and apparently it got lost along the way. But I see nothing unusual in my startup file.
very long image loading times when loading an image into CS6 from LR4.When I right click an image in LR4 and select edit-in CS6, CS6 immediately starts up, and loads. But after CS6 is fully up on my screen, I get a spinning ball first, then spinning white/grey circles, until my selected image appears within CS6.
I am operatinng with an iMac 27 2.8G with 8G of memory and using SL 10.6.8 I have about 300G of free space on my HDD.
I have an image of a long-haired cat on a burgundy background. My client (I kid you not) would like me to change the background to dark blue.
I fiddled with several methods but couldn't get the fine, long hairs that are in front of the background to look right. Eventually, I decided to try the selection/refine edge process...
I put a blue background under the layer with the cat on the burgundy background. I selected the cat, staying INSIDE the edge so none of the burgundy was selected. I went into Refine Edge and adjusted the radius until I had most of the edge fur selected. This was about 75 pixels. I tried Smart Radius, but it didn't seem to make the fur selection any smarter... So, I currently have it off . I then got the Refine Radius Tool and started doing a little selecting to get the fur right. This is where I hit the problem.
As I select around an ear, for example, I can see the burgundy background show up. When I release the selection, the burgundy disappears and is replaced by the blue. GREAT. BUT, instead of staying OUTSIDE the ear, the inner part of the ear ALSO gets turned blue. The same thing happens all along the edge of the cat - sometimes I get a pretty good selection, other times the blue permeates the area I was selecting. It's not 100%, but it's not ZERO percent either... This MAY not be a huge problem in some spots, but it's a BIG problem, for example, in the ears.
So, I get done selecting, and I have blue around the cat. I click Decontaminate Colors to get rid of the blue and/or the burgundy from all around the cat. It works in places - along sides and such where the fur is shorter. But, the ears are still blue as are some of the longer tail fur. I ran the amount between 50% and 100%, and although the decontaminate gets better, it never gets really good.
Do and Output to a new layer with a mask, figuring I'll just clean up some of the problem areas on the mask. Doesn't work. I can open the mask. I can see that instead of having a white cat outline, I have a PARTIAL white cat outline but the face, ears, and some areas are shades of gray.
So, on the image layer, I take a white brush at 100% and try to clean up the mask, painting over the ears to have the fur and ear detail come back, but it just comes in as mush. NO detail.
Am I using the wrong tool? Magic wand is nowhere NEAR detailed enough to give me a really good selection. Replace color leaves me with a blue background but burgundy edges.
If I'm using the right tool, am I just expecting too much from the tool? 'Cause whatever I'm getting, it's sort-of working, but not well enough for what I need.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been making web comics and trailers using the animation pallet in CS4. I just upgraded to CS6 and am really excited about the ability to animate 3D objects in CD6. You can see two short demos here: [URL] .... and here: [URL]........
My issues is that in CS4, I could make my animations as long as I wanted. There was a fly out menu that would let you input the length of the animation. In CS6 that has been replaced with the drag-out-the-layer-to-the-length-you-want interface (of which I'm not a fan). In doing this I noticed that my 3D layers can only be 10 seconds long, I can't drag them further into the timeline, even when my animation is 20 or 30 seconds.
I've looked at the 3D options in preferences and all I can think is there I have maxed out my RAM. Is 10 seconds the max that Photoshop can animate a 3D layer, or am I missing something?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, let me say that I am very enthused with the changes in CS4. I feel that this is the best update to PhotoShop that I have seen, and I am a user since version 3.0.
The problem that I see, ocassionally, is that PhotoShop becomes non-responsive for a long period ie: 1-2 minutes. I have experienced this on both my desktop (64 bit Vista Ultimate and 64 bit CS4) and my laptop (32 bit Vista Ultimate). During this time the disk drive is continuously active as though it is swapping the file to disk. The file size, however, is not large enough to cause this and the utilization factor is shown as well below 100%. After a period of time the disk drive stops and CS4 becomes responsive again.
The system is an AMD dual core processor with 6GB RAM on the desktop and 2GB RAM on the laptop. Both systems use SATA hard drives. The CS4 scratch disc is a separate dedicated drive on the desktop. Both systems use Nvidia video and open GL is working fine on both computers. Both computers have the latest Nvidia drivers. Since there are no open GL problems, I assume that the video drivers are okay. As I have said, I see this problem on both my laptop and my desktop.
I want to make a really long-exposure shot using my Canon 40D DSLR. If I just set the camera to Bulb and take a long exposure, I get a lot of noise that eventually wipes out the image. I understand that you can achieve the equivalent of a long-exposure by combining several (many?) shorter exposures of the same scene. This is routinely done in Astrophotography and other areas, but I don't know how to do it. I tried googling some of the terms, but I guess I didn't use the right terminology because the search didn't turn up what I wanted.
I'm using CS6 on a Mac Mini with OSX 10.8.4.
I have photoshop Cs6 and I am trying to make an animation with an avi file that is about 4 seconds long. anyway when i import the avi file and it loads and the preview pops up and it shows half of my video has been cut off.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever making long strokes with ANY textured brushes (where the "Textures" feature is in use via Brush Presets), I get a horrible, horrible lag when making long brush strokes...Any other brush is fine, as long as its not textured. I have turned off OpenGL, have updated PS to 12.1, using two scratch disks, etc etc.
My computer is pretty beastly as I built it for high performance gaming (8 gigs RAM, Win7 Ultimate, SSD/HDD combo, Nvidia Geforce 560 TI, etc) so I am at a loss as to why I am experiencing this issue... I even tried rolling back my Wacom driver, but then I realized this doesn't matter since the lag still occurs when using a mouse as well. I could obviously un-tick the Textured feature, but that's not what I'm going for.
Strangely enough, I never experienced this problem when I was working on CS5 on a Vista computer with much less fancy parts in it. Could it be an issue with Windows 7 or CS5.1...?
I have CS6 64bit on a reasonably up to date windows 7 system. Just checked for CS6 upgrades 7/14/13, and have the latest version (13.0.1.2).
Things have been working fine since I installed the product about a month ago.
At some point something went wrong and it now takes 30 seconds or more to load a file via "file>open..."
It also takes 30 or more second just for photomerge to display the file dialog from "file>automate>photomerge..."
All other photo s/w I have loads raw files, tifs, jpegs, etc... very quickly. This is CS6 specific.
I disabled loading of plugins, didn't work (CS6 starts quickly enough, just not so much file loading).
I have been running PSCS3 for quite a while. I just installed it into a new system. Just about every time I try to shut it down, it takes 5 minutes or more to shut. Often I need to use the task manager to close and it takes several attempts to close.
FWIW, Bridge CS3 can have the same problem.
I have 3 GB RAM. 3.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core.

I'm trying to create a time laps but PS6 does not include all the images in sequence 0001 to 1360? It simply creates a movie in 27 seconds and cuts out the 400 latest pictures!
What is the most safest file format for storing image data? I am thinking in terms of drive failure. Suppose you have a precious picture and you do not want it to be corrupted by a single bit failure by the drive.My undestanding is saving an image in a compressed format is most insecure because failure of a few bits can lead to gross decompression problems. My other understanding is that RAW formats that store the individual pixels are the safest. Consider 2 situations:
1. The RAW file header becomes corrupted. You can still recover data by interpolating and "guesstimating" from the existing data.
2. Actual image data becomes corrupted in a certain region of the file. You can interpolate around the lost areas to recover the image.
There are no tools that I know of that are designed to specifically accomplish 1 and 2. Honestly, if I had a precious picture, I would save it in RAW format in 2 or 3 different physical drives. Also, are there tools to recover data from corrupted photoshop psb/psd files?
I was wondering if anyone knew what is wrong with my smudge tool. When I go to use it and apply it to my image, it takes a while to show the affect. Everything else in my photoshop works fine. Oh yeah, I use PS CS if that makes any difference.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI seem to have made the mistake of moving several images around outside of Organizer and now they are lost - or disconnected. I've tried the Reconnect feature and after running for nearly an hour not a single image has been reconnected (I need to reconnect over 500!). I've tried to manually browse but where to look for them. I am a Mac user, and I do have these images backed up on an external drive.
How do I get my images back into Organizer??
I have been trying to reduce the amount of banding on the long background image on our site.

Seems that when I use a 1 pixel strip and repeat horizontally there is a slight amount of banding visible. Is there any good ways in Photoshop to reduce this?
When I long click to select an alternate tool, the flyout freezes for a few seconds before I can select a tool.
How can I fix this? My only work around right now is to know the tool shortcut and then to cycle through it with shift+tool shortcut.
There's probably a simple explanation, but if I have a file open for a long time in Photoshop the blacks will start to appear oversaturated/blocked up. If I close and reopen file it looks normal again.
I am using OS X Lion, Photoshop 5, Apple 30" Cinema display. My monitor is calibrated with a i1 Display by X-Rite and resets according to amibent light.
I just started using PS (CS6) and I added 10 new custom swatches that I want to save in a new swatch library. However, I still have the PS default library of swatches listed (that contains scores of colors). Can I select multiple swatches at once to save them for the swatch library? Or do I need to delete ALL the default swatches first manually, then save the remaining colors in the new swatch library? If so, it makes it a daunting task...
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have lots of software code (in tSQL, html, JavaScript, XAML, and C#) that I need to print in a long scroll. The scroll will be no more than 440mm wide and as long as it needs to be (though the roll of paper is 45 m long so I’ll need to make sure it is shorter than that).
The resulting code listing is to from part of an exhibit contrasting the ‘sketching’ phase in a multidisciplinary project between design, social science, and software engineering. The exhibit will form part of the Research Through Design conference [URL]...
At first I thought I’d print straight from the development environment (Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Management Studio) but I realise now that is not possible because
1) Both tools assume standard page sizes, and
2) I need to rotate the software code listing 180 degrees so that the end of the listing is at the tail of the paper roll.
For these reasons I’m doing it in Adobe Photoshop (CS5, 64 bit, on Windows 8).My workflow for this is verging on the ridiculous.
1) If I cut-and-paste the code listings file by file from Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Management Studio into Photoshop (or Illustrator) I lose the formatting, for example the coloring of comments differently form variable declarations. (See [URL]...)
Thus Step 1 is to cut-and-paste each file into a Microsoft Word document.
2) If I cut-and-paste from the Microsoft Word document into Photoshop I still loose the formatting, and Microsoft Word does not seem to be able to cope with the paper roll nor rotating the print. So I save the Microsoft Word document as a PDF and open that into Photoshop.
3) I now have 51 Photoshop files each with one layer containing the text for that ‘page’, though I think it’s an image as it is not editable as text. I then save each of these files.
4) Using Adobe Bridge I open all 51 Photoshop files created in Stage 3 and “Load Files into Photoshop Layers” so that I have a new single Photoshop file with all 51 text image layers in.
5) The layers sit on top of each other. What I need is for them to sit head-to-toe. I don’t know how to do this without spending a million years selecting layers and moving them by hand.
6) If I ever get Stage 5 done I will then group the 51 layers and rotate the result through 180 degrees.
7) I will then resize the result to have a width of 400mm and print the resulting file on our banner printer, having first calculated the resulting paper ‘height’ and turned off the automatic paper cutting.
So my questions are:
1) Is there a better way of doing this?
2) I can see the Photoshop actions that will align layers by their tops, their bottoms, or their centers but how do I automatically align them so that the bottom of layer 1 touches the top of layer 2, the bottom of layer 2 touches the top of layer 3, etc.?
*tl;dr- Easy way to take the frames of a GIF and change them to a BMP (there are about 40 frames per Action) So- My friend was learning Java to build a game on Android while I would create the graphical resources. It will be a fighting game- so I went ahead and made animations for the moves and all the characters.
understanding the language so I thought I would go ahead and teach myself as well. I read faster than him- and I got to a point where I find out that graphical resources have to be in BMP (or so the author tells me) and that each frame in gif is a seperate BMP. So- is there an *Photoshop CS6 Willing to get on the cloud or something for the other CS programs.
