Photoshop :: Is There An Import Setting For RAW And JPEG? [LCD Calibration]
Feb 26, 2008
have a new Nikon Camera. using flash taking photos inside. For some reason the Histogram on the back of the camera is short of any light pixels, ie they're all grouped in the dark to centre of the histogram, ie the photos are dark. Thing is they look great on the back of the LCD screen and it seems the photos are correctly exposed.
Okay here is the question, does Photoshop have any settings at all, anywhere, which could give the user flexibility in altering any brightness settings when files from a digi camera are imported? I'm thinking a setting for import in photoshophas may have been set too low, hence a dark photo, because the difference between the back of the camera and the image popping up in Photoshop is massively different.
I'm assuming that it's no, so I can rule it out and concentrate on what Nikon have to say.

If I shoot RAW + JPEG, and I add EXIF data to the JPEG files outside of Lightroom, when I import the RAW + JPEG pairs will the metadata I added to the JPEG files still be there?
I'd try it myself, but I don't actually have the equipment to do this right now.

In the past I've always done the following to add a jpeg to a layer
1. Created a new layer on the drawing
2. Opened the jpeg req in a separate window
3. Dragged the Jpeg into the drawing so that it sits on it's own layer
THis worked in CS3 but doesn't sem to in CS4.

I just duplicated a bunch keywords upon importing a month worth of photos from a remote project. I assume this is because LR has no idea how to handle them other than importing them in a flattened state. I suggest a checkbox that tells LR whether or not to look for an existing keyword of the same spelling in its structures before creating another one. If it then finds multiples, it would be easy enough for it to figure out the correct keyword based on context.
I have many nested keywords and have found the nesting to be pretty much useless in the real world, but it is a great organizational tool. It allows about the same grouping functionality as collections but without the messy accumulation of collection names that were only used once.

For some reason there was a setting to eject the flash memory card after an import was completed that seemed to disappear in my version 4 Lightroom. Where that feature setting is located?

Whenever I import photos the exposure and other settings are changed. I have resete every default setting I can find for any kind of preset.I tried to uninstall by dragging to the trash can (Mac OS) and reinstalled to try and clear the issue. Not sure this was the correct process as it didn't seem to wipe everything out. Don't know what setting got changed along the way. Just trying to get everything back to default so that my photos aren't arent manipulated before I can even get them to the develop module.

I tried to use the "import" under file, but it didn't see the jpegs that I want to import. In fact, it didn't see anything that's in the file. It said "file empty".

I'm attempting to import a sequence of JPEG files as a composition into After Effects. The files were exported from Lightoom (Import/File). I select the first file in sequence and select JPEG Sequence but the Import as Footage is greyed out. Only the first file is imported. I'm attempting a timelapse from files taken with GoPro Hero3.

Suddenly, after 3 months of easy use, LR5 says it can't import standard JPEG files form my Olympus OMD
because it can't read them. But iphoto has no problem and imports them easily. This just started happening out of the blue.

In LR3 is there a way to import JPEG's only when I am shooting RAW + JPEG -- say in the case of being on-location and I want to create a quick slideshow without importing the large, slow RAW images? (Shooting only in JPEG is not an option -- wedding photography.)

Before downloading GIMP I just want to double check that I can import a satellite image, in pdf or jpeg format, as a background which I can draw over with all the available tools.
I also would like to use a grid over the drawing for scale.

I have a Nikon D7100 with the card slots allocated for Raw (Slot 1) and JPEG (slot 2). When Importing I would like to convert the raw images in slot 1 to the Adobe DNG format and to have the JPEG images simply imported as JPEGs. I cannot find the correct combinations of preferences/options to make this happen. What happens today is the both images import with the second labeled as a -2 copy of the first image.

I am trying to set up auto importing by tethered shooting with a Canon 1Ds (but don't think brand and camera matter.)
I never use DNG, and am not aware of, and after a lot of searching, cannot find anywhere in the LR4.3 preferences at which I specified DNG conversion. In the Auto0Import dialog there is a File-handling tab that offers one choice: how to spell the dng suffix. The files I want to import will come in as CR2., and testing this with other folder destinations and with Canon's EOS Utility prove that the camera is "sending" CR2 files.

I have a lacie electron blue iv 22 crt as a main monitor that runs great and i don't see myself replacing any time soon, cheapo NEC 17" LCD as a secondary and both running off an XFX nvidia geforce 7600gtx. the lacie is running analog output and the nec is running digital.
I get good color from the lacie and on all my prints (oly 330n and kodak 1400 pro, both are dye sub printers). still using adobe gamma from cs2. is this something i need, or should i just stick with what works. (i guess the answer is stick with what works, but do you guys think i would actually GAIN anything by going for this.)

There is an vast amount of information on this topic, that topic being LCD monitor calibration. Some LCD have presets, theater, games, etc. I want to calibrate my LCD so that if someone else is viewing my work on their monitor and they complain it is too light or to dark, I can say it is your monitor.
One of my LCD has two presets that are of interest 'standard' & 'sRGB' my other LCD doesn't have any presets. What is the best or near best calibration I can manually set both monitors too, if this is even possible on LCD.
