Photoshop :: CS6 Gradient Overlay Bug
Jun 3, 2013I have found what I can only assume is a bug. I have a PSD file that when opened in CS5 looks as it should. When I open it in CS6 any shape with a gradient overlay displays as black. When I choose Save for Web it displays correctly in the save window, but the file displays the shapes as black in the regular Photoshop view.

Jun 28, 2012I used to use Ps normally, but since I've reinstalled my Windows recently so I had to reinstall Ps as well. However, when I used Gradient Overlay, it didn't work out correctly as it's supposed to do: no matter how I configured the option, it just filled a solid color instead of a gradient (as number 1 in picture). When I clicked reverse, it filled with the other solid color. Number 2 I used Gradient Tools to make it easier to compare.

Oct 14, 2013I've created a button with a gradient overlay, but when I click and drag the button, the gradient overlay stays put, it won't move with the button. Is there an option I'm overlooking to anchor the gradient with the item I've created? I've never seen this before. I'm on Photoshop CC 14.0 on a Mac.

Apr 7, 2009I have a webpage that has a gradient background that extends down the page at least 800 px and is set to repeat-x. I have an auto centerd column which has a background applied to it. The background is set to repeat-y. The center column has a dropshadow applied all the way around it. The problem is that I am not able to get the drop shadow to blend in with the gradient as the page grows. Initially at the top of the gradient where it, the gradient, is the darkest, the drop shadow blends in. But as the gradient moves down, i.e., becomes lighter, the drop shadow ceases to blend in any more. is it possible to solve this problem? If so then how?

May 26, 2013I've got a real problem here with the Script-fu Gradient Overlay. Every time I try to use it and click on any of the buttons - see screenshot for full list - it shuts Gimp down. There's no warnings, Gimp just suddenly vanishes and if anything is being worked on then all the changes are lost.

Aug 23, 2011An Overlay track has a photo on the end of the track, there are also photos at the start of the track.
When right clicking on this track behind a photo at the start end of the track to insert a photo behind an existing photo, the new photo goes behind the photo at the end of the track.
Is there any way to use right click and insert the photo where you want it?

Making a DVD NTSC slide show of some Christmas pix. Opening photo is outside of house with snow on the ground. It's in vertical orientation (taller than it is wide). To show the entire house photo results in a video image of the house with black areas on the left and right of the photo. No problem.
As it fades in from black, thought it would be cool to have actual snow falling over the photo. Fine, fired up Cool 3D PS and made a particle overlay avi file of 720x480 of snow falling.
I insert snow avi into overlay track #1 over house photo. Of course, since the house photo is not 720 wide, the snow also falls into the black (border?) area outside the house photo. No problem. I just adjust the overlay avi so that it's the same dimensions as the house photo. Okay, the snow looks a little too distorted that way.
So, I return the overlay avi back to it's original 720x480 size and insert a black jpg into overlay track #2 to cover the snow on the left side of the photo. Insert same black jpg into overlay track #3 to cover the snow on the right side of the photo. (Creating a two track, pseudo mask?) For the most part, it works. In the preview window it looks great (doesn't it always?). When I render it, though, there is snow falling just outside the left and right edges of the house photo. Not much, but enough to be noticeable. The pseudo mask idea works, but not 100% for some reason.
Been moving the black jpgs in overlay track #s 2 & 3 more and more onto the photo, but when I render each version it doesn't seem to make any difference. What am I not seeing here to fix it? Just want the snow to fall on the photo and not outside of it.
Summary . . .
Video track: House photo (and other images)
Overlay #1: Snow particle avi
Overlay #2: Black jpg covering the area left of the photo
Overlay #3: Black jpg covering the area right of the photo
P.S. - Think it would matter since I did not resize the house photo, leaving it in it's original 3000 x 4000 file size?
Lightroom :: Moving Brush Overlay That Synced To A New Photo?
Aug 10, 2012Lets say you use the adjustment brush and highlight only the subject of the photo to brighten it up and make adjustments. Then the next photo you have is almost identical, except it is framed a little differently. So, when you sync the settings from the previous photo to this new photo (including the brush adjustments), the overlay mask will mimic the previous photo and will not line up with the subject in the new photo. Thus, my question is, is it possible to move the overlay mask in the new photo after the sync so that it can match precisely over the subject?

May 3, 2012Using PS CS4 on XP. I just got a job back from the printer company & I am noticing some lines that didn't appear on my print out here (on xerox color printer machine) to compare. I didn't really catch them on the proof either, but they used an epson proof and we printed on 100# gloss text stock for the final.
What I have going on is a gradient background (using shape layer and gradient layer style effect) from a white to a light tan. Top to bottom on a regular Letter size sheet. In the upper right hand corner I have a image of a face that had that same light tan in the background. I faded this image into the gradient background by using gaussian blur.
This is not very noticable in the file, but I can tell that it is there...you have to really focus your eyes to see it, but it's there, a line going around the image where the gaussian blur is. I'll attach a photo of the edge. I guess what I'm saying is it is not smooth - the image edges being blurred into the gradient background, but printed off a regular printer, it looks smooth. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future?

Nov 19, 2013I have not created a document yet and would like some thought on how to do this: I want to use a continuous tone black and white image which is somewhat close to what would be a 'knockout' but with soft edges - so it gradates appropriately over the background image I want to use, making the black part of the image used as the mask become much of the effect of a gradient mask: the background image shows through whereever there is the 'black' and 'tone' of the image.
my first thought is to create a layer mask and then paste the black and white image onto that, but I'm not sure if that will work to accept the 'soft tones' of the image and work appropriately. What steps I should take to make this effect work?

Dec 30, 2012a photo in xara is actually a bitmap filled shape, so if you just try applying another fill, eg linear, it will replace the bitmap completely
so what you need to do is draw a rectangle over the photo - apply the fill you want to the rectangle - and then give it a transparency of type hue
now come the reservations - hue transparency has no affect on black/white/grey-tones, so you may not end up with an even fill as you can see from the example
you may wish to contone the bitmap first... the underlying color will still affect the fill to some extent... as can be seen from the green band in the examples..
the chosen fill ramp gives a rather nice effect on the original I think, but is a bit extreme on the contones...
[I find it useful for adding gradient color to raster line art, sometimes quicker than going into a bitmap editor and painting on color whilst preserving transparency...]

I have managed to create a "gradient image", and have also tried to follow a PDF tutorial, and YouTube video. The dialog boxes didn't match and I wasn't successful. I tried finding "decompose" and "mask", but it may be the instructions weren't spot on.

InDesign :: Gradient Feather No Longer Displays And Only The Sharp Edges Of The Photo Are Visible?

The documment printed fine, but when the PDF is viewed online in Fire Fox, the gradient feather no longer displays and only the sharp edges of the photo are visible. Is there a specific setting when saving to PDF that I need to select for best viewing online? I'm on a Mac CS 5.5.

Jul 9, 2012I've been experiencing problems with the Gradient editor since I got PS and the problem is that whenever I create a gradient through the gradient editor and then load it, it does load it and instead just duplicates the ones that already exist.
I save all gradients at:

However it does (mostly) work when I import pre-made (from web) Gradients.
I don't know why this happens but it also did the same thing when I had CS5.5!
Photoshop :: Overlay Blending Different In CS6?
Jul 3, 2013We just upgraded at work to CS6 and overlay blending isn't working like it did in CS5.
Overlay used to multiply values below 50% and add screen above 50% regardless of what the layer underneath looked like. I'm not sure what's going on now.
Am I the only one seeing this? Is there a setting somewhere to get it back to working the way it was? I haven't seen any documentation on the change and a search of the support shows no one else complaining about the same issue. But me and my coworkers are all seeing the same issue.

I am able to make an overlay layer with the following path: Layer/New/Layer and choosing Overlay in the Mode section. The thing that I don't understand is how to work with this Overlay layer .
I understand that the overlay is the subpicture but i'm a little lost. For example, if I have a button which is a picture and I want that the overlay color would be yellow. How to make this work?
