Photoshop :: How Do You Make A Photo Fade?
Jan 25, 2008
I have a photo of wood flooring that I need help with. I tried to do it on my own but I haven't been successful so now I come to you guys asking for help. What I need the photo to do is fade from left to right so that the left side is natural and it gradually fades to white as it goes to the right? Photo is a grayscale tiff.
I'm working in CS on a Mac with OS 10.4.11.

How do you make a photo fade to transparent in Photoshop? I am attempting to let the orange edges of the image slowly fade into the black background of the webpage.

I want to use Vellum section dividers in my portfolio for the same reason everyone else likes them: they're translucence.
Saba's Blog: arts, culture, visual material, and good readin' -
The first 2 photos are Illustrator files. They have a solid white background and the black text. Then, I pasted the fading images. I made these images fade on Photoshop, by using the gradient tool, and setting the fade on top of a mask.
But this doesn't work. It does not fade to nothing....but rather fades to white. I need it to fade to nothing so its somewhat translucent on my vellum.
if print like this on vellum, the image won't fade into the transparent sheet vellum sheet, but would rather fade into a white square (which will print on the vellum and therefore not be translucent).
When I make the image fade on Photoshop, I want to see the checkered pattern underneath, not another layer of white.
Simply put, my image fades to white (the white layer beneath it). I want it to fade to nothing.....so i can paste it on something else, and can see through the faded, part to whatever is underneath.

I've imported a photo of a striped shirt into PSE 6. I want to put some text on top of the shirt. Unfortunately, the stripes on the shirt make it difficult to read the text.
So I though if faded the stripes a little--where the text will be--that will fix this problem.
So I need to know how to fade just that one section of the photo where the text will be. I don't want to fade it entirely--just enough so that the text is readable. That is, I want the stripes to still be somewhat visible. How much I fade them will be up to me.

I want to try to fade a couple of photos together. Fading a color from one block to another is fairly straightforward, but doing this with photos appears to be giving me troubles.
Currently, each photo lives in its own layer.
Photo A takes up the Lower Left while Photo B consumes the Upper Right ...and is in a Higher Layer than Photo A.
I add a layer that has a gradient using transparent white as one color and solid white as the other. With this layer, I thought I could select a Blend or reduce the Opacity so that the Lower Left edges of Photo B fade away, allowing the image to look like it is fading into Photo A.

I have Photoshop CS and I want to know how to make an image selection fade to transparency.
Example, I select part of a photo, say a persons face, with the lasso select tool.
I want to make the boundries of the lasso selected area fade to transparent in a gradient style.

On top of my first video, I just did another Elkhound video.
[URL]......
But, I couldn't figure out how to get a certain effect I was wanting to use. Basically, at the 2:34 mark there is a picture of a lady kneeling down petting a puppy. The very next picture is the same lady with the same dog as an adult. I was trying to get the second picture to fade into the screen and the first picture fades out. So they kind of "morph" if you will. I assume that's possible - but I am just to new to the program to figure it out.

Basicly when i try to erase a layer/rectangle tool to make a nice fade this is what happens: every time i try to erase it makes a huge black lining around the erased part as u can see .

I am trying to make my image fade to black on one side. I have read the blend tool tutorial in the user manual but all I can get to hap pen is a black and white gradient completely covering my image. I have tried adding a transparent layer over the image and applying the gradient to it but for some reason when one side of the image (using the linear mode) starts to get darker, the other side gets lighter, creating a severely distorted contrast with the image, plus the fade covers an entire half of the image.

I have Photoshop Elements 10 which I work with sparingly. I would like to outline a section of the photo (a face) and somehow select it to be the whole photo - in other words to get rid of all background elements. I can outline the area with lasso, but do not know how to just save that area. When I save, the whole original photo is saved. I also tried the magic extractor, which really worked to make just the face and crop everthing else out, but it has a white background the same size as the original photo, which means it is essentially a reactangle with a face in it. I am trying to just get the face so I can paste it into a document, sort of like when people put heads on fake bodies. This is for a church newsletter. I have done this with my old Picture It software, but that was on my old computer. I think I should be able to do this with all the gadgets Photo Shop has, but I must be missing something.

when you're deciding what size to make each photo, there starts to be a point where there is a noticeable lost of visual quality. what feature in any program (doesn't have to be adobe) can automatically enlarge the size up to a point where the visual quality is still good?
doing it manually for each photos is too inefficient.

I'm new to photoshop CS6 and I'm having some trouble. I'm trying to make cutout pictures like Melinda Gibson (see picture 1 and 2) but I can't manage to do this. I want to take a picture of the outline of a person (see picture 3) and cut out the center of the picture over another picture. That was I have the form of the person with the background of the second picture. But I can't figure it out. I tried to "select inverse" after using the magic lasso tool but I don't get the cut out, just a line

I am trying to do a reflection in photoshop. I can do a reflection in photoshop if the picture is a straight on shot of a car. I tried to do a shot of a car that is from a front angle, but when I flip it verticle I can not get the tires to all line up. I am wondering how to get all three tires to touch each other. I have tried distorting, skewing, perspective and can not get it to work. Here is the image I have been practicing on that I found on the internet.
