Photoshop :: Flattening "Dissolve" Blended Layers
Jul 4, 2004
i have a picture i am working on that certain layers use the "Dissolve" mode of blending to obtain a scattered look but when i try to save it so i can use it online as a jpg it flattens and totally losses the look i was going for.
any way to save without flattening or for the Dissolved layers to keep their unflattened appearance?

I want to be able to take a document, that has multiple layers, inside of multiple groups with various layers having various blending modes applied to them and from within that document, select simply two of those layers, one with a Divide blending mode and the other layer Normal, merge those two layers, but have the visual appearance of the merged layer maintain the visual appearance of what the layers looked like before I merged them.
Everytime I attempt this, Ps takes my Divide layer, reverts it back to Normal and then merges the layers, thus changing the appearance of what it was before the merge. This is not the desired result.
I understand that when you flatten an entire series of layers, it applies all the blending modes and maintains the visual appearance. Is there a way to do this with just two layers instead of all the layers?

I've been taking photos with a homemade lightbox which includes a white background and I typically have to go into photoshop to make some adjustments to get the background pure white. When I'm snapping a photo of an all white object against an all white background, it looks rather nasty if you use the auto color tool.
So from my understanding auto color uses the lightest white and the darkest black and the reason the white/white scenerio doesn't work it because of a lack of black. So to combat this I've been creating a new layer and adding a little black with the rectangular tool and filling it with black. Now, I'd like to be able to delete this second layer once I've used the auto color feature but can't figure out how.

I know the title sounds weird, but I am having trouble keeping my levels from reverting back to their default look when saving as a jpeg or attempting to flatten or merge my layers. I can attach a link to the PDS if you would like to take a look at it. The layer that is losing its levels settings is called "Stars". I don't change my levels often, so I am sure its something I am just missing. The levels are just changes on a single layer, as stated above its the layer called "Stars".

I've making a light glow texture for a game with gimp. I've created the light with supernova effect, then i used a a black to white gradient layer with multiply, also another multiply layer is used to make the light fainter.
(there are more in the picture, these are mipmaps for game that are smaller and more shinier to get realistic glow effect).
In game it will be used for texture of an additive material, and a little artifact is noticeable if i watch carefully. These artifacts are noticeable too in flattened image if i add more lightness to it. This is what i'm talking about that halo around the light. But on mask there isn't anything like that.

I am trying to turn every layer in my .ai file to a raster image without flattening to one layer.
-The big issue I am dealing with is the agency that just built a paralax site for us refuses to export to PSD. I have tried every possible way to do this but keep getting the file is to big message. To add to it they had it all on 1 layer. I was able to release to sequence, but now am trying to see if rasterizing the objects will work.

I am trying to do the dissolve effect in Photoshop or maybe this is not the name of the effect. I have been trying to find a shot to show as an example and can't find one exactly what I want to do but here is one that is close. Basically to the right and left of the face where the white feathering bleeds in is a dissolved bright yellow white on the cheekbones. I want to get this white dissolved look to some of my images.

The problem is that he wants the images to dissolve into the background and the person who has done is has saved them as JPEGS instead of PNG files meaning that instead of being able to dissolve into the background it dissolves into white within the image (the background isn't white!)
I've never come across this before and he hasn't got the original files. How to get rid of the white so it will dissolve into nothing or change the white into the colour i need?

I'm after creating a series of spot/dots that gradually get smaller the further away from the center in a dissolving effect. Ideally stemming from a radial pattern if this makes sense?

on creating an image similar to the SUV attached.
i have a picture of a car and want to give it that "air brushed" look, and have it blend into the background.
as for the airbrushing.. the current natural reflections on my car picture arent quite as "striking" as those on the attached SUV. in creating more striking reflections on my car?

The two links below use backgrounds ( that im sure are created with PS) that kind of have marks and scratches accross them. Im pretty sure its parchment paper os something like that. The 247media one ( when you click on one of the pull down pages) almost looks like an old scratched plastic chopping board.
My question is whats the most effective strategy for altering source images to create an effect like this. The images in the web pages have been manipulated so it lokks as if they're not there but thier marks and scratches show through. Ive been playing alot in adjustments and blending modes but rather blindly.

I used to make a really neat strip of merged images using PSE 4 and its photomerge feature. How can I make a merged group of photos blended and being aligned side by side horizontally like PSE 4 used to do? Using PSE 10?

I'm trying to add a dissolve on the timeline between two clips as I have many times before and one of them will not allow me to dissolve to or from it. It won't allow any dissolves at all actually.
Both are 1920x1080 10bit clips rendered out of action. Any attempts to put a dissolve on the cut ends up with it being only on the end-tag (the second clip). If it tell it to be centered it puts a one frame dissolve on the end-tag. If i tell it Up To Cut it does nothing. From Cut works as expected.

I have a very simple PSD, so i'll try to explain this super simply..
one transparent layer, with just a pair or eyebrows, with the only added blend effect as 'multiply'
one background with a face, no eyebrows.
the layer blends the eyebrows in to the background face perfectly.
i want to save the layer as a separate file keeping the tranparency and including the result of the multiply effect, without the background.
the reason why i want to do this may confuse things, but basically i want several different eyebrow colours to be interchangeable over this face in an application that doesn't recognise the blending link with the background, so i want to save it in PS !

just want to scale an image. I do File/Tools/Transform Tools/Scale. Then I adjust the numbers to my desire. If I reduce the size, there is blending that takes place amongst pixel colors.
Looks good except that the edges of the image are also being blended. Blended with what? The edge? I don't get it.
How do I scale an image, but leave the edges alone?

Cross dissolve will not fade out clips correctly. It gets down to 10-15% opacity on the last frame and that's the lowest it goes. During playback, you can see how abrupt the fade is.
Ticking the "Composite in Linear Color" sometimes improves it, but it's still not a smooth fade. Why is it that I can manually add opacity keyframes to fix this problem (regardless of "comp"), but cross dissolve cannot do a smooth fade?
The following are screenshots of the last frame before the clip ends. The cross dissolve is 30 frames long.My system is i5, 560GTX, CUDA enabled, PP CC 7.2.1, Windows 8.1.
-White background, last frame, Composite not enabled:
-White background, last frame, Composite ENABLED:
With a white background, comp enabled is a bit better, but you can still see the content. I'd expect another frame or two before a complete fade. Black background, last frame, Composite not enabled:
Again, I'd expect another frame or two before total darkness. Oddly enough, after adding and deleting opacity keyframes and switching comp on and off, I managed to get a nice smooth fade with comp OFF with the above example. Some kind of bug? Can't seem to duplicate it yet.Black background, last frame, Composite ENABLED:
With the default black background, having comp enabled makes it WORSE. This has been happening since 2011, here's a thread over on the Creative Cow forum talking about the same issue: (and I know there's threads here on the Adobe forum talking about it too)URL....

Is it possible to make spot color separations from blended shapes.
I blended a red spot colored irregular shape with a spot colored yellow shape and now want to output 2 film positives from my postscript printer. Unfortunately the blended pathes became process colors. I am using illustrator cs 6 on a Mac.

Is there a way to achieve uneven distrubution of blended lines in Illustrator CS5? There was one other post on the web asking a similar question to this, which was solved by changing the blend spline.
This works great for objects, but not so much for lines.
Here is an example of what I am looking for where the top is what I would like to achieve and the bottom is the typical blend.

Just draw a rectangle and a circle, then give them different colors. Choose AI menu "Object | Blend | Make", before this step you could set "Specified steps" to an integer in "Blend Options...", now you get a series of blended arts. Using Direct Select Tool you can select the rectangle or circle you drawed at first.
how to know if the art object you selected is one part of the blended series? I looked into the document but cannot find a proper API to get the infomation in AIArtSuite.

I have a word that has an orange outline. Then it has a transitional blend going from yellow to the same orange as the outline.
I have worked out that I can use the eye dropper tool then use the right mouse button with the fill bucket, this will give me the color that the eye dropper picked.
But how do I then use the eye dropper tool to do a fountain fill. The yellow I need to copy is not a standard color that is found on my colors to my right. So I need to some how use the eye dropper tool to set the first and second transition colors.

upon flattening layers in CS5, any changes made seem to vanish? This occurs when flattening adjustment layers and has even happened after e.g. Image>Adjustments>Curves (when I close the adjustment dialogue the changes aren't applied.) This doesn't happen on every photo ( I can have two open and it will only be seen on one) and I havene't ever had it happen before. It seems particularly likely to happen after applying HDR toning although I'm sure if there is any connection.

-No I did NOT uncheck the layers box.
-No I did NOT accidently FLATTEN my piece
-No I didn't change the color space
why the eff my photoshop has flattened two of my PSD files without my permission.
I work in PSD then when done I hit save. Then File> Save as> PDF then I name my PDFS, do so for my other projects then I close everything. I've had two files already where I have opened the PSDS and they're flattened when I never saved them this way.

I recently began creating an image and when it came time to flatten this image, the noise I intentionally put in was softened to a regular glow. I am using CS2 and i used the Layer Style > Outer Glow > and then I added noise with blend mode linear dodge and an opacity of 68%. Anyone know if there is a way I can flatten the image with a way to maintain the noise?
